Rafael and Hensoldt will develop electronic warfare capabilities for German Eurofighter jets
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 10/22/2022 - 14:00 in Military
Rafael, from Israel, joined the German company HENSOLDT to offer a solution to the requirements of the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) for airborne electronic warfare capabilities with initial operational capacity (IOC) in 2028.
The exclusive partnership agreement was signed in Tel Aviv on October 18, by Thomas Müller, CEO HENSOLDT, and Maj. Gen (retired) Yoav Har-Even, President and CEO of RAFAEL.
Tumblr media
RAFAEL and HENSOLDT agreed to embark on a joint effort to integrate and improve RAFAEL's Sky Shield electronic air war pod as a mature and ready-to-use Escort Jammer (ESJ), with HENSOLDT's latest national sensitive electronic air attack (KALAETRON Attack) technology. This new capability supports the Luftwaffe's decision to adapt the Eurofighter Typhoon to an electronic attack platform. The new EA pod uses the existing Litening Pod interfaces, already proven in combat in Typhoon, significantly simplifying integration efforts and saving invaluable resources.
Together, RAFAEL and HENSOLDT bring the necessary experience not only as solution providers for ESJ, but also in the Eurofighter program environment and related integration and certification processes.
Tumblr media
HENSOLDT has developed the "Kalaetron Attack" air interference system that recently confirmed its effectiveness against several enemy air defense radars. It is part of HENSOLDT's fully digital 'Kalaetron' product family, which is used in self-protection and signal intelligence systems in the German armed forces. In addition to the elements of cognitive software, the core comprises a fully digitized broadband sensor and a jammer defined by electronically controllable software.
Metallic 3D printing allowed a condensed design of electronic components so that the jammer can be easily integrated into commonly used pod formats ?? around the world or directly on bodies of various flying platforms. The effectiveness and responsiveness of the system are also based on artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms, which allow the classification of unknown threats in the field and the rapid evaluation of large amounts of data.
Tumblr media
RAFAEL's Sky Shield Escort Jammer is a ready-to-use military solution already delivered to several customers around the world, thus allowing easy integration into fast jet platforms. By using Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology, the only broadband interference pod covers the present and future high frequency band, providing a high effective radiation power (ERP). The Sky Shield is capable of generating simultaneous transmissions of interference and deception against various threats. Some of RAFAEL's airborne solutions are in service in Germany, including the LITENING and RECCELITE Electro-Optic pods in the Luftwaffe Eurofighter Typhoon.

HAL needs new orders to keep production going after 2021-22 - india news
Tumblr media
State-run aircraft maker Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) needs fresh orders for fighter jets, trainers and helicopters fast to prevent a complete halt of production at its facilities, two senior government officials said, asking not to be named.HAL’s order books are empty beyond 2021-22 and new orders from the armed forces are critical for continuity in production, the government has told Parliament’s standing committee on defence. The company is betting on the Indian Air Force (IAF) to place a multi-billion dollar order for an advanced version of the indigenously produced Light Combat Aircraft (LCA), Tejas, before the financial year ends, said one of the two officials cited above. The air force plans to buy 83 LCA Mk-1A jets, taking the total number of Tejas variants ordered to 123.Another order that HAL is eyeing is the supply of 70 locally produced basic trainers to the IAF. If it gets the order for the Hindustan Turbo Trainer-40 (HTT-40), HAL could begin production of the trainers by early 2021, the second official said.As part of its existing orders, HAL has to supply 24 LCA jets and a few Sukhoi-30s to the IAF.“HAL’s production over last several years has been growing with highest turnover of ~19,705 crore recorded in the financial year 2018-19. However, the major part of existing orders for supply of aircraft and helicopters will be liquidated shortly with the major manufacturing order of Su-30MKI being completed in 2019-20,” the defence ministry told the standing committee on defence last month. The ministry stressed that production would be hit for want of new orders. “Considering production/procurement lead time of 18 to 24 months involved in the manufacture of aircraft/helicopters, the existing facilities at HAL face the threat of idling and production will show a declining trend for want of confirmed orders.” In a report tabled in Parliament last month, the committee said “all-out steps” should be taken to ensure that the “order book position” of defence public sector units improves in the coming years and the ministry should extend full cooperation to achieve that.“As the production in the DPSUs is majorly contingent upon the operational needs of the armed forces, the committee recommends that timely intimation and placement of orders by the services, along with necessary financial support from the defence ministry wherever necessitated, must be provided to the DPSUs to arrest the decline in their production,” the panel said in its report.HAL is the only plane maker in the country and it is in everyone’s interest that it stays in good health, said Air Vice Marshal Manmohan Bahadur (retd), additional director general, Centre for Air Power Studies.“The ball is still in HAL’s court. A prototype of the Tejas Mk-1A is yet to fly. Only then can the IAF place an order,” Bahadur said. The 40 LCAs already ordered by the IAF, of which 16 have been delivered, are in the initial operational clearance (IOC) and the more advanced final operational clearance (FOC) configurations. The LCA Mk-1A will come with additional improvements over the FOC aircraft, making it the most advanced Tejas variant so far.The Mk-1A variant is expected to come with digital radar warning receivers, external self-protection jammer pods, active electronically scanned array radar, advanced beyond-visual-range missiles and significantly improved maintainability. IAF now doesn't even have enough trainer jets
Latest Updates - CA Mitesh NEW DELHI: The air force is heading into what could be a training crisis with all its plans to acquire new trainer aircraft hitting a roadblock and two indigenous programmes to develop basic and intermediate training planes missing critical internal deadlines. The air force has painted a grim picture for its trainer aircraft fleet by pointing out that efforts to develop a basic trainer under the HTT 40 program is running five years behind schedule with Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd unlikely to even be certified for flight by 2021 even if there are ‘no uncertainties in development testing’.The air force currently relies of the Pilatus PC 7 turbo trainers for the first stage of training. While 75 of the aircraft were bought under an emergency purchase in 2012, a subsequent plan to acquire 38 more has been on hold as the Swiss manufacturer is facing a probe for alleged corruption in the deal. The other indigenous program to develop an intermediate jet trainer (IJT) is delayed by over 14 years, with all efforts to prove the aircraft fit for service failing. HAL is believed to be entering into a consultancy with a US based firm to rectify the aircraft at a cost of Rs 90 cr.Sources said that the redesign would take a long time, given that the aircraft would need to be certified again – a process that can take up to 5 years. The air force is meanwhile retiring its Kiran Mk 2 trainers that were used for intermediate training, given that the aircraft is past its service life. The Kiran Mk 2s were delivered in 1985.On the third level of training, the air force is currently using the BAE Hawk jet trainers, 123 of which were ordered in 2004 for the air force and Navy. However, an air force projected request for 20 additional planes, along with a possible order for 12 new jets for the Navy has not been able to move forward. The proposal has been rejected by the defence ministry that has contended that the commercial offer by HAL is much higher that what the planes were manufactured by it here earlier were priced at. 67780241 67780247 67780250 67780258 Chartered Accountant For consultng. In the midst of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, India must order 12 new Sukhoi Su-30MKI fighters designed in Russia
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 03/18/22 - 8:18 PM in Military
The Indian Air Force (IAF), desperately lacking in fighters, is ordering 12 Sukhoi Su-30MKI of Russian design very soon.
His offer for fighters, a $1.4 billion package, should be approved by the Defense Acquisition Council (DAC) led by Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and the three military chiefs next week.
The fighters, although designed in Russia, include Indian and also Israeli systems and are built in India by Hindustan Aeronautics. The purchase of the additional Sukhois came about because the IAF is short of fighters, its squad strength is coming close to 30, instead of the 40 needed. A dozen fighters will give two-thirds of a much-needed squadron.
The IAF has only two Rafale squadrons, but still flies with older aircraft, including the updated MiG-21 Bison.
Tumblr media
The development of the Su-30MKI variant began after India signed an agreement with Russia in 2000 to manufacture 140 Su-30 fighters. The first Su-30MKI variant manufactured in Russia was accepted into the Indian Air Force in 2002, while the first Su-30MKI assembled in India entered service with the IAF in 2004.
Also on the DAC agenda are 70 HTT-40 basic training aircraft for the IAF. These were developed by Hindustan Aeronautics and are also extremely necessary, as the IAF faces a shortage of basic instructors. This business is worth several million dollars. In recent times, the IAF had bought Pilatus, but a plan to buy a second batch did not go ahead.
The DAC could also authorize about 50 sets of electronic warfare equipment manufactured by Bharat Electronics, valued at about $280 million. All three projects involve a level of nationalization, keeping in mind the government's desire for self-sufficiency.
