underrated DokSoo moment!?
This one here (or better saying: Dokja rescuing Sooyoung from the cage):
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Why!?
Because in novel version, kdj wasn't even batting an eye when others were dying, but as soon as someone approached hsy's shirt, bro took out his sword and start raiding the place😂🤌🏻
And he said "let that woman go" ycjcsivjcygifhfuucufobhxtxjvyxucyxyducfuvjcyduvucuf

Also hello!? Kdj!!!!! Stop looking at her underwear wtffffff😂🤦🏻‍♀️
You are TOTALLY correct this is an underrated doksoo moment!!! (I am so sorry for replying to this ask so late I really wanted to properly sit down and reread the whole chapter because that underwear thing is new to me and you have AWAKENED something inside me…!!!)
White undies. You are telling me that KDJ was ogling HAN SOOYOUNG’S WHITE UNDIES and that made him decide those pure white undies were too innocent to be sullied by these men!?
“….”
That dot dot dot always appears when KDJ really REALLY doesn’t want to let anyone know what’s going on in his brain!!
Doksoo lenses off: Kdj may have possibly remembered his trauma of growing up watching his mom be abused by a man. There is a line in the novel that goes like “my relatives treated me like a leftover product”. Being objectified really strikes a nerve in KDJ and he still has that part of him that would choose violence against the men performing injustice towards women.
However, thinking about or even processing his trauma doesn’t truly appear until much later in the novel. That’s why the ………. Appears there in the narration.
The world of TWSA was created to make him perceive himself. ORV was written to be read by him.
The scenarios he’s put in, the characters he meets, are all reflections of himself and are written there to teach him how to accept himself (pls refer to other people’s meta posts about this for a deeper dive). This is one instance of finding a mirror image of his own trauma.
Do you still pick up the knife sword? Will you still point it at the big bad man who is trying to hurt the woman who would do anything to save you? …….Will you kill him?
Kim Dokja will make the same choice every time.
Which is, he wants to, but he won’t.
But that man will still die. There is a writer who will take the consequences of the death of that man on his behalf. Whether if it’s his mother or if it’s Sooyoung….
(again, sorry I really wanted to screenshot it but I STILL haven’t been in front of my laptop the past week to properly sit down and find the quotes I wanted to support this ask. I haven’t written anything in so long, even. When will Lia start writing again?)
He was trying to rationalize choosing inaction but…
Doksoo lenses on: Yk in some version of my ORV worldview I was questioning, what if KDJ really is aroace in canon?? However!!! You have successfully changed my LIFE with this ask.
KDJ was checking her out so hard that OTHER people noticed. This man made a mental note to notice that it was in fact, her panties, and NOT just the white fabric of a jean pocket or whatever. Staring so hard that even that guy was all “I’ll let you fuck her first”. Unreliably narrate all you want, KDJ, the rest of us know the truth…!!! We know why you really started raising the whole place!!!!!
ALSO!!! What makes this an EXTREMELY underrated Doksoo moment is that in this passage this is where KDJ starts memorizing her likes and dislikes!!
He says HSY here hates cliches but if I remember correctly……. He also says 1864th HSY doesn’t like cliches. To know her well enough to understand her habits….. 😭❤️ Doksoo save me

i blame noe’s INCREDIBLY SEXY 1863!HSY FIC for getting me back into this mood. but even without that, every few months my brain gets stuck on a little hamster wheel, and that wheel is actually the general observation to be had first is: yoo joonghyuk, if we exclude the obligatory kim dokja and also every other yoo joonghyuk, vibes most Intensely with han sooyoung and jung heewon and that’s Hot, narratively speaking. i will only explain this somewhat. but back to my main point, which is i think that while it may not be intentional, jung heewon and yoo joonghyuk are alike in very particular ways that makes something inside me cramp with love. and also misery.  first! we discuss the superficial. so obviously we’ve got these sexy, bisexual swordspeople with a worrying level of investment in kim dokja and an even more worrying sense of like... identity? babes, quit situating yourselves as the solemn defender risking life and limb every battle, it’s unsettling. (i also think they have the same demon slaying attribute? neat). they’ve both had the honor of carrying kim dokja around like a sack of potatoes AND the honor of slapping his face into raw beef. gee, kim dokja, how come you got TWO sexy sword masters to smack the living shit out of you? intriguingly enough, as far as i can remember, jung heewon is the only incarnation in kim dokja’s company who secretive plotter sends an indirect message to, way back when the seoul dome fell. that always made me smile. secretive plotter and jung heewon, united in hating the paparazzi. they’ve both got..... little siblings the narrative fucking abandons (every day i think about you, jung heewon’s vanished little brother...) she fucking. steals his status as the strongest incarnation in korea. GOD, i love her. everyone please join hands with me and replace yoo joonghyuk with jung heewon once and for all. but we must go deeper! the most obvious scene that comes to mind is the one in 541 where jung heewon confronts yoo joonghyuk after the failed 1865th round. yoo joonghyuk says it basically in text, how the look in jung heewon’s eyes is so familiar and it must repulse him! to see in her what he once had been, years and lives ago, confronting him like this. she threatens to kill him! she’s got her hand on the blade! jung heewon! i know yoo joonghyuk, more than anyone, would understand this energy but please! and then, past this, when we think about the lives of kdc in this new peaceful world... both yoo joonghyuk and jung heewon feel very much like people who needed the world of the scenarios more than their friends. we have the exchange between jung heewon and kim dokja that she refers back to in the final scenario; for jung heewon, this apocalyptic world is what revealed her true potential. she thrives in hard times and something about those years flipped one hell of a switch in her. for the love of god, the woman opened up a security firm. i weep for her cop adjacent status, but i really feel it’s the only way she could think to preserve that role she’d made for herself, because without it... whoof. what would she be? how would she maintain that level of usefulness? going back to 541, i think it makes a LOT of sense that she’s the one insisting yoo joonghyuk send her back to try again. girl’s probably thinking this janky old man can’t do half as good a job as she can! retire, bitch. this doesn’t even touch on the way they’ve both got their brains thoroughly scrambled by kim dokja to the point they’d kill him rather than go along with his bullshit one more time. to be honest, this is an AOE affect he has, so it’s not entirely fair to say it’s a THEM thing, but whoo! they get it Hard. anyway. this is all just to say that i think these two fuckers, who wanted peace at any cost (like murder) are also so good at what the apocalypse needed from them (like murder!) found themselves left adrift in the world that followed it. i think they should hang. actually i think i will also cross post my vacation au for them here, it’s good and i like it.
ladies we are thinking about jung heewon and yoo joonghyuk again
