The greens had too much fucking screen time. All I heard was them yapping about a war THEY started.

I thought I was the only one who thought this 😭 We had too much time with team green. Every time they were on screen, I would start zoning out and wishing we could just get back to team black. They try really hard to get us to sympathize with those characters but a majority of team green characters are beyond sympathy at this point. The only ones I feel bad for are Helaena and her children.

They would show a scene of Rhaenyra grieving over finding her murdered son's remains and then one of the next scenes would be Alicent having a teen angst moment arguing with her dad that he doesn't take her serious and the show expects us to feel bad for both.

The fact we got two Alicent/Criston sex scenes in episode one is crazy to me. Did we really need a long scene of Criston performing oral on Alicent and then they awkwardly talk about the weather while she helps dress him? Like that's really what we got over more time spent in Winterfell? Since Cregan will not be seen again until next season, I'm even more upset about all the time spent with team green this episode.

Baela and Rhaena didn't even get to speak!! Rhaena just lost her cousin and betrothed, a boy she grew up with and they didn't even allow her to say anything. Meanwhile, every child of Alicent's got to speak quite a bit in episode 1. I always see team black fans argue that the show favors team green and it sometimes feels very true.

Yes!! They severely cheapened Team Black’s grief by constantly cutting to the most unserious and unnecessary scenes of Team Green. In the middle of Luke’s funeral we get ALICENT, the woman who demanded his eye be cut out instead of focusing on his family and their grief??

And Alicent and Criston Cole is just so…ugh. I know it’s meant to show Alicent’s hypocrisy and I feel like they had to do it in the most obvious and extreme way to where you just can’t miss it because media literacy is dead. If they tried to show it in another way I feel like people just wouldn’t get it. Two scenes was just too much though, I agree especially when it cuts into more important things like Cregan

Baela and Rhaena are done dirty, once again. I’m holding onto hope that it’s only the first episode and that maybe things will change later on. This episode did feel very Team Green oriented which is ridiculous because Rhaenyra is literally the main character lmao

Also, Harwin put those kids in jeopardy by hanging around them. Let's not forget his 'my turn' when Leanor was holding baby Joffrey in front of Luke and Jace, who at the time still viewed Leanor as their father...Every adult in their life was selfish when those kids should have been the priority

Yeah. People always try and make this seem like a fairytale love to me which is weird considering the kids lives were literally in danger? Viserys even says so 😭 Like just fuck Jace and Luke ig. Doesn’t matter if they have to live with the consequences if everyone else is happy

It seems like cut shots of Aemond from ep5.... I'm so sad that Clare Kilner decided to focus the scene fully on Alicent and Olivia's eyes, like she said, Aemond/Ewan deserved screentime and close ups too, it was an important moment for Aemond.

Yes, it's definitely from ep 5. For me it was one of the most important scenes of Aemond. Ewan did a great job in that scene and the time he had he made the most of it, that scene moves me, he captured perfectly what he intended. About the screen time, yes, I was expecting him to have more time, the promo and even the poster seemed to give him more prominence. But what can I say, I'm an absolute fan of Aemond hahahaha. It's a pity how few scenes of Aemond this season with the acting ability that Ewan has….

Ah this. No, he won’t. Or rather more specifically, he never wants to. I think the man suspects something but for his own sanity that’s not something he’s gonna have a confrontation about. From what we know of him he dealt with cheating in an extremely possessive way, instead of spurning his woman, so even if he suspects I think it comes out merely in a bit more possessiveness and into the 80’s a keen awareness of his own role in leaving a cold place in the bed, I’d you will. It doesn’t fit his picture of his Tink and so he’s not having it, it’s over, that’s good enough for him. And Elaine was obviously not massively emotionally compromised by Brando so, moving on.

Also, eeeeek, thank you SO much, I don’t know why it’s all a tad embarrassing to toss out stuff for a batshit insane fandom (and I mean that with the greatest of love) when I’ve been chilling, working on domestic little universes here but my inner medieval gremlin must come out. well apparently Aegon x Otto exists which is just 🤢 and tbh I’m not a major fan of Helaegon either tbh. I just prefer and see them as a platonic pair, not to a romantic degree.

Who is your ideal Nettles fancast? Just curious because I’ve seen you use a couple of different people.

Lol, ideally my top pick would be Sophie Wilde:

She just has such a sweet face and fits Nettles canon description perfectly. Lol it’s a pipe dream though considering she has several projects in the works and I doubt she’s even on the HOTD teams radar. Though ironically she’s playing opposite of the guy who played Ser Laenor’s first lover in her new miniseries(Tom Jones).

Next up would be these two ladies:

Simona Brown

and Karla Simone Spence:

Both are British, have the right look IMO, and are fantastic actresses. Crystal Clark would be another great actresss for Nettles. She’s actually who I originally envisioned for her:

Really, honestly at this point I will not complain who they cast as Nettles as long as the actress is Black/Blackish and brown-skinned. This is my only requirement for Nettles. I’ll be honest and say Nettles has the literal worst fancasts(not surprising since half want to act like she doesn’t exist or if she does they don’t want to her being Black).

Most of the actresses in said fancasts aren’t darker than a paper bag and some are non-Black/Blackish women which I find completely vile when people insist that she isn’t Black/Blackish when a. how Nettles is described is how you would describe someone Black and b. she looks like this in the lore and the official art:

The behavior of this fandom when it comes to Nettles period has been downright deplorable. I’ve already stated this, but I’ll state it a dozen times, I will straight up not watch this show if HBO looks over a host of Black/Blackish actresses to race bend the only in canon Black/Blackish character and more importantly the only in canon Black/Blackish woman.

I’ll keep it cute and leave it there🤷🏽‍♀️ Bottom line, I have my preferences, but I will literally cheer on any actress who they cast to play Nettles as long as she is visibly Black/Blackish.

What do you think Alicent could even be saying in those letters she's been sending to Rhaenyra? Like what is there for her to say other than "oops I had one son steal your throne and my other son killed your son. Sorry :( let's make amends but you have to bend the knee first". I swear Alicent is living in a fantasy dream world where her family did not commit treason and kinslaying 😭 Everyone else is preparing for the war to come and Alicent is going about her life like it's any other day, seemingly not understanding that there will be consequences for what her and family have done.

Both sides were gearing up for war, to be honest. Luke’s death was the trigger, but not the cause. I can still see Daemon ordering Blood and Cheese out of some personal outrage over the disrespect done to his brother (Viserys was left to rot for like a week before his funeral, which was quiet and not at all befitting a monarch), or at least something similar and with similar consequences. It’s honestly a roll of the dice between Aemond and Daemon for the “who is our first kinslayer?” competition, lol. It seems highly likely that if Like had not died in the manner he did, then Daemon would’ve engineered a situation that would force the Greens into all-out war so he could face them and cut them down in the field.
