HMBAU Chapter 3: Uncharted Territory and New Friends?!

I had just kind of sat there dumbfounded

Because now there was an entire plate of assorted food on my plate 

Like holy shit this is a whole ass buffet

“Eat up so you have enough energy for the rest of the day!” Bokuto said kinda loudly and smiling 

I still sat there just shocked eyes wider than a tuba bell

“Alright Y/N-chan I guess we’re gonna do this the hard way” Oikawa said to me standing up from his place in the circle 

“I-what?!?!”

He didn’t say anything but he just walks over to me sits back down criss-cross and pulled me into his lap and wrapped his arms around me, his fingers settling on my waist and hips

“O-Oikawa what are you doing?!”

“Juuuust loosening you up a bit” He said with his chin on my shoulder

“Hey Oikawa, is this really a good idea?” Yaku pipes in

“It’ll be fine Yaku-chan~she’ll be fine”

With no warning as to what he could be talking about, I felt his hands move and he did the unthinkable

He started tickling me with no mercy

“Wahaiaiaiaiait nohhohohohohohoho”

“Oh yes~I’m sure you know what you need to do for me to stop~just tell me you’ll eat and follow through with that”

“Ohohohohohokahahahahay I wihihhhihhill juhuhst pleahehehehehese sthohohohp”

“Okay good!” he stopped when suddenly an apple slice with peanut butter on it appeared super close to my face

How on earth?!

And then I saw the person who was holding it was Osamu

Figures, only he would be able to accomplish perfect apple slices that fast

“Ah! I-I c-can e-eat myself b-but thank you”

“Ok” and he put it down on the plate

I knew he was good with food but holy shit the layout looked spectacular

Damn him for knowing me too well

I slowly started eating while the others started up a conversation

“Hey Bokuto, did you finally get a pedal note?”

“NO AND HOW DARE YOU BRING THAT UP”

I felt Oikawa laugh and pick me up off his lap and chime in with “Wait Bokuto-chan can’t pedal hahaha”

“HEY MAN LIKE YOU COULD HOLD A TUBA”

“Actually Bokuto he can. I know he seems weaker than a twig but his strength will surprise you” now that got me and I choked a bit

“IWA-CHAN DON’T SAY THOSE THINGS! YOU ALREADY KNOW I CAN WALK WITH THAT THING FOR A MILE ” only for Akaashi to finally notice choking and he alleviated it using the heimlich

“Are you ok?!”Akaashi said while also coaxing me to drink some water whilst the others continued to bicker in the background

“Y-yeah I’m ok but thank you”

He just smiled nodded and went back to where he had been sitting 

I just kind of sat there slowly eating everything and getting full like never before 

But I guess at some point I got lost just watching them because I got snapped out by Osamu

“Hey Y/N our break is over it’s time to go to the band room”

“Ah ok”

“Hey uh-Y/N?”

“Yeah?”

“Wanna walk there together especially since we keep our instruments near each other?”

“Uh-sure why not”

“Cool. So how come you pack such small lunches?”

“Oh well, I’m kind of a picky eater and I’m also watching what I eat so I can be healthier and raise my endurance on things. I also don’t think about it really”

“Ah”

“Is it just me or is everyone acting kinda strange today?”

“What do you mean?”

“Like I usually don’t talk to anyone and suddenly people are swarming me, especially the brass leaders! Has that been happening to you too?”

“Nah I think it’s just a you thing as far as getting lots of new attention.”

“But like why me?! I’m not interesting at all and coulda sworn no one around me really paid attention to my existence!”

“Probably because your talent piqued a lot of people’s interests, especially the leaders because they saw it, I know I was”

“But like Oikawa is acting the weirdest towards me, and none of the other flutes are! Am I a threat?!”

“No I wouldn’t say you are a threat, more like a successor”

“But i have no leadership skills! How would I be a good successor?”

“Your potential and that you aren’t Kageyama”

“But like who else has an eye on me?”

“The tubas”

HMBAU Chapter 1: Spring Band Camp

this is part of my haikyuu marching band AU (acronym HMBAU) and the rest of it is on AO3, but I’m just gonna publish it here too. Enjoy!

Chapter 1: Spring Band Camp

“1ST, 2ND AND 3RD YEARS WELCOME BACK TO ANOTHER GREAT BAND CAMP!!” our head Drum Major Daichi said to us through the megaphone  and I guess decided to speak to us normally (finally)

“For you 1st years who may not know, my name is Daichi Sawamura. I'm a 3rd year and  our band’s head drum major. Standing beside me are my fellow drum majors 3rd years Shinsuke Kita and Kiyoko Shimizu as well as 2nd year Keiji Akaashi. Now may all section leaders and captains step forward so you can introduce yourselves”

Wow. Why didn’t someone have Daichi do the talking last year?!? I remember being bored as piss when our head drum major last year took forever with his speech and made it all sappy and shit.

And oddly Kyotani was the first to step up (probably just wanted to get it over with tbh)

“Kentaro Kyotani snare section leader” “Kozume Kenma Bari Sax section leader” and kenma didn’t even look up from his psp while doing this. 

“Tetsuro Kuroo, tuba section leader”, “Kotaro Bokuto, assistant tuba section leader”, “Wakatoshi Ushijima, trumpet section leader”, “Satori Tendou tenor sax section leader ;)”, “Osamu Miya, flute section leader”

Right after Osamu introduced himself stupid Atsumu had to lose any shred of chill he had and just scream:

“ATSUMU FUCKING MIYA BEST ASSISTANT TRUMPET SECTION LEADER AND MIYA TWIN”

Only for Iwaizumi to step in and hit the bastard in the back of the head

“Iwaizumi Hajime, brass captain”

Honestly after iwaizumi introduced himself I kinda may have gotten distracted by his sleeveless arms and how awesome his handling of the idiot blond was and missed like more than half of the section leader intros untill:

“Tooru Oikawa, woodwind captain. Feel free to ask me for help anytime”

And he was looking straight at me 

Apparently Oikawa was the last one to introduce himself because Daichi immediately started talking again

“Alrighty I know that kind of took a while because there are a lot of us leaders, but I want everyone to have a good first rehearsal!”

And then I heard Suga yell “Alrighty flutes make a circle! We’re going to introduce ourselves to each other! Akaashi, would you like to join us?”

“Sure” 

“Great! This is how we’re going to do it: first and last name, what year you are, what’s your birthday, your favorite food, your favorite color, a hobby or yours, and a fun fact about yourself! After we go we’ll point to someone or say their name. I’ll start. Koshi Sugawara, I’m a 3rd year, December 31st, super spicy maro tofu, black and orange, volleyball, and I am aspiring to be an elementary teacher! I pick Osamu next!”

“Osamu Miya, 2nd year, October 16th, black and white, onigiri, cooking, and I have an idiot twin brother named atsumu. I pick Akaashi next”

Are all the leaders just picking on each other today?!

“Keiji Akaashi, 2nd year,December 5th , nanohana with karashi, blue and gold, drawing/writing, and I’m fluent in 4 languages. I choose Oikawa to go next”

“Hi there! My name is Tooru Oikawa, I’m a 3rd year, my birthday is July 20th, my favorite fodd is milkbread, my favorite colors are white and teal, I love playing volleyball, and a fun fact about myself is I actually am the starting setter for our school’s volleyball team! Hmm…maybe I shoukd pick one of you shy girls how abooouuut…Y/N!”

I froze

“Uh m-maybe n-not m-me I-I’m not that interesting”

I looked over at Osamu to help me out a bit but he betrayed me and said “come on Y/N everyone’s gotta do it, and besides you aren’t gonna get away from it this year. I know you are shy but you need to come out of your shell a bit”

“F-fine you win. I’ll try” and I not liking this shit spoke even softer than before: “My n-name is Y/N L/N, I’m a 2nd year, my-”

And Suga cut in with “I’m sorry for interrupting you Y/N but I’m having a really hard time hearing you, can you please speak up a little?”

“Uh s-sure.” I took in a deep breath and started again

“My name is Y/N L/N, I’m a 2nd year, my birthdays on April 7th,my favorite food is F/F, my favorite colors are aqua, dark heliotrope, and black, so basically all the colors from the aurora borealis, I d-don’t r-really have any hobbies, and I’m not that interesting of a person so I don’t have any fun facts I’m sorry”

All the 2nd and 3rd years were shocked because this was the most they’ve ever heard me say. And Suga basically being the mom of the section decided to say more about me because apparently he wasn’t satisfied with my answers

“What our dear Y/N forgot to mention was that she's captain of the dance team, top of her class, in our school’s top choir, and most impressive of all is she knows 9 languages fluently! And despite being so reclusive she’s very very sweet and loves helping people” he smiled softly at me knowing what he just did

He just focused everyone’s attention onto me 

I looked around frantically for who could take the attention off of me and I caught the eye of Daishou’s ex-girlfriend Mika and blurted out “U-uh M-Mika-san a-are you ok with going next?”

“Sure! I don’t mind! Honestly thought I would never get picked this early so thank you!” she smiled at me and began her schpeal and I couldn’t be more grateful 

What I hadn’t noticed was I had stood up and ran to the bathroom without saying anything

Hopefully Oikawa wasn’t gonna do a surprise jug check today

And then another thought hit me 

The flute leaders and a drum major now knew my birthday

Oh fuck

LE TIMEYSKIIIIIP

Fuck it was cold out here and it was already 10 in the morning

But hey we’ll all get hot quickly despite it being 56° outside 

“Alrighty everyone one lap around the field!”

And with that we were off for the first lap of spring band camp

HMBAUChapter 2: The Start and End of  an Era

I just decided that instead of trying to stay mid-pack and drag out the running on a torture rack I would just sprint this enormous 0.7 mile lap and get over it

But it seems my lovely woodwind captain had other plans

Because now instead of being middle-front he was now next to me

“Wow Y/N-chan you’re running quite fast! Maybe you should slow down a little.”

“No can do Oikawa-san I’m just trying to get done”

“I think you’re not understanding me. I’m telling you that you need to slow down. Non-negotiable ok?”

I couldn’t believe my ears! Was he jealous of my running fast or something?

“I don’t understand why you’d say that”

“I just don’t want you to get hurt ok? So please just slow down a little”

“If it makes you happy then sure”

So I slowed down 

but he didn’t leave

“Soooo Y/N-chan how does it feel to be 5th chair in SWC? I’m actually surprised based on the way you played last year that you weren’t in a higher ensemble!”

“Ah well I think maybe the band director made a typo and accidentally wrote my name instead when he meant to put Michimiya since we all know she’s really good and wanted this for a long time, so to answer your question I don’t feel like I’m meant to be there”

“Ah classic impostor syndrome! Don’t worry Y/N-chan even if you don’t feel worthy now I’ll personally see to it that you become the player you want to be! And besides I heard your audition and thought it was SWC calliber!”

“Wait you heard my audition?!?”

“Of course! I always want to hear the section auditions and actually am given some imput on who goes where!”

And with that our lap was done

Shit I didn’t even get to ask him what he meant

And now we have to do the stupid laying on the ground stretches so now I can’t ask him what he meant until at least lunch break

God why can’t we just learn drill instead?

TIMEYWIMEY SKIIIIIIIIPP

“Already everyone good Visual Block! Enjoy your lunch and remember Brass is in the gym and Woodwinds are in the Multipurpose Room for music block!” Daichi said while packing up the metronome

I knew I didn’t bring anything for lunch 

Now I just needed to hide from my section in a hidden notch in the school’s quad

Which was almost successful

But of course god decided to be like “lol no!”

Because now Bokuto was across me

“Hey hey hey whatcha got for lunch? I was kinda hoping I could try whatever you had”

“O-oh Bokuto-san I didn’t see you there! I uh-may have accidentally um forgot my lunch… but it’s ok! I’ll be fine”

Nice

Or not

“Damn what a bummer! Come on, I'll get you something! Besides how could you even expect to survive out here with how hot it is?!” he said as he helped me up and took me to the air conditioned gym

“OH GUUUUYS~ SOMEONE FORGOT HER LUUUUUNCH!” damn you Bokuto

“Y/N-chan! How could you forget something so important?! I’ll give you some of my milkbread! And no you may not refuse” Oikawa had chimed in almost immediately after Bokuto said that

And of course Bokuto brought me to where he usually sits with all his leader and brass friends were

And he knew all 3 of my leaders were good friends of his and he wanted to make sure no one slipped through the cracks

Too bad for him that I managed to slip under his radar all of last year

But that was then and this is now 

“I can give you some gatorade and a banana. You really should be on top of your electrolytes while working as hard as we do” Kuroo said while scanning me up and down like he was trying to remember who I was but couldn’t quite put a finger on it 

And this circle of people included Osamu, Sugawara, Kuroo, Oikawa, Iwaizumi, Akaashi, Yaku, Daichi, Kita, and Bokuto

So literally the worst people to try and be sneaky with

“So what were you planning to bring for lunch Y/N? Or were you planning and ran out of time?” Sugawara asked suspiciously

“I h-had a plan but had no time to execute said plan”

“That didn’t answer Suga-chan’s question Y/N-chan” Oikawa pointed out while keeping a strong gaze on me

“...a baby apple and a little bit of peanut butter…” I whispered softly

“Could you say that a bit louder please Ms.Y/N?”

“I s-said a baby apple and a little bit of peanut butter…” damn it now they know I wasn’t planning to eat fucking anything that would satisfy their weird standards of meal quality for people

Osamu looked like he was about to faint and the others audibly gasped at my response

“That’s it, we are now in charge of your band camp meals. Sorry Y/N but you’re at our mercy now and you get to have no say and yes this means we will all be making your breakfasts, lunches, and dinners for the duration of camp. No buts or exceptions.”

AND THIS WAS COMING FROM FUCKING IWAIZUMI WHO WASN’T EVEN EVER NEAR ME OR EVEN I’M SURE KNEW ME

I stood there shocked as Bokuto and Kuroo helped me to sit down as the others piled some food onto a spare paper plate and set it in front of me 

“I-I c-can’t accept this! It’s too m-much of a burden on you all!”

“Nonsense! Sometimes I have extras and it’s better for it not to be wasted going into the trash right?” Yaku said to me smiling as he prepared the first bite

Little had I known

This was the end of my hermit-hood
