her brand of feminism is calling out the government or stupid fucking confederate statues instead of real, pressing issues.

do you think matty healy is a pressing issue? all of the energy directed at that man would have been better invested in something more substantial than debating whether he did a nazi salute, dissecting what he has said in interviews years ago etc.

the one valid thing Ive seen people comment on was the stupud dirtbag left podcast and even with that people throwing terms like nazism, racist, -phobic is just... matty to me is clearly someone whose intent is not rooted in evil and malice, he tries he fails he fucks up, and he's ignorant to a lot of shit but I can't pinpoint anything that's deserving of horrible comments I've been seeing.

you don’t have to have an intent that’s rooted in evil/malice to still make racist comments lmfao. idk about you but i can’t excuse comments he might make as seemingly harmless jokes that are just downright vile and quite literally racism. i can’t read about him talking about watching porn that brutalizes Black women and excuse that lmfao. the issue here isn’t just that he’s some regular guy who’s incredibly ignorant, but that he is a public figure with his own platform and is now being boosted by being associated with taylor swift, and consequently, all the vile things he’s said in the past and in recent months are being brought to life. if no one calls him out on it, his fans and her fans will just think those beliefs and comments are okay.

i agree that we should be expending some of these efforts into not just calling him out but also trying to create real actions to real problems right now (ie drag bans, school shootings, etc) but as people who are big fans of taylor swift, it’s also important to express our opposition to everything he stands for, since he’s clearly making big headlines by being seen with her. as people with blogs dedicated to taylor swift, we better damn well speak out when she does problematic things and associates with incredibly ignorant and problematic people. you can be angry with large social issues in the world and in the country and also be angry about your favorite celebrity, who you have had a blog dedicated to since 2013, is associating with someone as problematic as he is! i wouldn’t be talking about this so passionately if my blog wasn’t literally dedicated to taylor swift and if i wasn’t a huge fan of hers for half my life because clearly he’s not a national threat
