Lesson 74 Summary & Analysis
3/4th’s predictable, 1/4th interesting. And Belphegor proves he loves his brothers so much.
Story
We leave Asmo and Satan in Levi’s room to watch over the sleeping ones and head off to the Demon Lord’s castle to meet up with Barbatos and Diavolo. Lucifer’s there, too.
It’s worth noting that this lesson is already making it abundantly clear that Belphegor’s primary concern is Beelzebub, and Beelzebub alone. It gets worse later.
Barbatos outright tells us he won’t help. Why? For silly reasons.
Belphegor responds poorly to the refusal, but Lucifer calms him down. Why does he refuse?
He can demand compensation first according to Pact Rules we were never made aware of before. We also find out that the dream world is notoriously unstable and dangerous.
We also find out that the dream world is notoriously unstable and dangerous.
Barbatos once ported Solomon into the Dream World, and the guy didn’t return for several years. Barbatos implies that may be because Solomon didn’t *want* to return.
Belphegor suggests we get Solomon to order Barbatos to port us, since he’s the one Barbatos has a pact with, but Solomon is not present and he doesn’t answer our calls. So we’re stuck with giving Barbatos whatever he wants.
Not to worry, though. All Barbatos wants is to play a dice game with us.
One that is rigged for us to win regardless of the option we choose…
Stakes are truly, utterly done in this game. I’m not sure what he gets out of this, and I don’t think it involves any symbolism.
Regardless, the solution is dropped into our laps, and Barbatos teleports us to the dream world. We have only two hours until midnight and the start of Helldown Day.
Our first dream is Beel’s. Surprise, he’s surrounded by family and busy eating. Belphie tries to wake him up, but he’s replaced by his dream self and we’re instead made to watch.
All attempts to wake him up are foiled until we mention wanting to eat giant Devildom slug. It’s not at the feast, so Beelzebub wakes up to go fetch it for us.
What a caring brother lol
Next stop puts us in a casino. Guess who’s there.
Mammon’s there doing what he does worst: winning.
I don’t think any of them have wished actual death upon Mammon for existing yet.
You can startle him out of his fever dream by imitating Lucifer or abusing your pact.
Belphie’s callousness unintentionally works, and Mammon freaks out at being left behind, which wakes him up.
We venture into a nightclub and find Leviathan there, of all people.
Leviathan wanted to pretend he was a hip club hopper but it’s not working, so he just wakes up.
Raphael’s dream is predictably in the Celestial Realm, but it’s by far the most interesting one. Predictably.
His dream involves the brothers returning to the Celestial Realm.
But even Satan is there! Who was never an angel in the first place.
Apparently Belphegor does not mind the Celestial Realm in general. He almost falls into the dream himself.
We tell Raphael we can’t return because we’re missing someone, but he believes we must be referring to…
Simeon!
But why would Simeon need to return to the Celestial Realm? Why would he initially be missing?
Belphegor notes the time and begins to stress out. Apparently, all this took nearly two hours, and it was almost midnight.
But he’s willing to just give up and you have to shake him out of it.
Belphegor tries to talk to Raphael again, but all the angelic doppelgangers swarm us so we can’t interact with him.
He concludes that they’re doing so because Raphael doesn’t want to return to the real world.
He’s willing to wreck Raphael’s mind to get back. Thankfully, we dissuade him.
Sort of.
Angel Lucifer suddenly chimes in and goes “do you REALLY want to do that?”
And it convinces Belphegor that Lucifer is our best bet to get through to Raphael.
Our first attempt to summon him is unsuccessful. We use the ring Solomon gave us to augment our spell, and we get a flashback involving him encouraging us.
Our second attempt to summon Lucifer is successful.
And he’s all like “yo man, haven’t you had enough of this?”
This guy is so damn depressed.
But he wakes up without further protest and we leave the dreamscape.
Poor Raphael is the only one who remembers everything and apologizes. Belphegor tells him not to worry, it was all Levi’s fault. Leviathan is banned from video games for a week.
He’s not fine.
Belphegor notices, we get a flashback of Raphael telling us he wanted to stay, and it inspires him to do something about it.
For his Felicity Day idea, he’s “creating opportunities for students to come together and get to know each other better”... which means he invites Raphael to a tea party in a separate room inside the planetarium.
All is not well, though. Luke was supposed to bring snacks on them to munch on but –
It doesn’t seem his conversation with Simeon and Solomon went well…
Analysis
Simeon: Not an angel any longer
There’s no reason for Simeon to initially be missing in Raphael’s dream… unless, of course, he was kicked out. If he was kicked out, then it’d explain why he can no longer use his angel powers. Because he’s no longer an angel.
I don’t think he’s fallen. He’s not a demon, but now fully human, and he probably can find a way back into the Celestial Realm’s good graces. I no longer think this is going to be resolved in this season, though: they’re dragging their feet in outright telling us what’s up. They’ve just been giving hints.
Finding a way to get Simeon’s angelhood back might be Season 5’s plot. Won’t be surprised if he chooses to stay a human to stay by MC’s side forever, though.
Luke’s Rebellious Phase Starts
IT’S HAPPENING
Whatever Luke and Simeon/Solomon discussed set him off. Not sure if they told him everything about the situation, but he knows enough to be upset now. He’ll probably be bunking with us or flee to the human world (if he can? I vaguely remember that it’s difficult to go between realms).
Predictions
We should learn what exactly is up with Simeon soon. It’s too early for this to be the finale, so I suspect there’s some holes to still be filled. Filler to be had.
We still need to go through our final trial to get on the student council, so the finale will likely revolve around that. Something will happen that brings everything to a head. We’ve already expended “Levi’s tech goes haywire” this lesson, and Helldown Day is upon us, so it may involve us trying to succeed at something without using magic.
Or maybe they’ll completely ignore that. I guess we’ll see!
