I still remember exactly where I was and what I was doing when I first heard “Our Song” - I was in high school, struggling to find my identity. And for once, there was someone out there who seemed to be feeling and experiencing life, in many ways, just like I was. At that time, I didn’t fully grasp that hearing Our Song on the radio would be the spark to ignite a beautiful now THIRTEEN-YEAR long friendship, but here we are.

I’ve never met you in person. And what’s crazy is that I feel like I talk to you almost daily...I have found comfort and peace in the raw emotion and heart with which you forge your music during every season of my life. During my lowest point and a time of deep depression, you released Reputation. Through your words, I felt like I was taking my life back right along side you, tooth and nail. I felt like your music was the catalyst that allowed me to heal and begin allowing myself to experience happiness again. The words of “Why She Disappeared” spoke to my soul, perfectly embodying the road I’d just traversed. I remember attending the Reputation Stadium Tour and being so moved, overwhelmed by emotion that all I could do was cry as I sang along to my life’s anthems, just as I have throughout the years. 

Upon the release of Lover, I was ready to make the leap into a new season of love and acceptance, one of Daylight. I continue to find comfort in your music, especially during this most devastating time. “Epiphany” is a song that reaches down to the depths of things I have experienced during my career as an ICU nurse...traumas and emotions I’ve never been able to share with anyone, things no one else understands outside of those who have experienced them. Your music has allowed me so much healing. So much peace. 

Words cannot express how grateful I am to you, Taylor. You’ve helped me work through many life lessons. When I had no one else, you’ve been there. Beyond your music, you continue to share your love with the world through advocating for vulnerable populations. You use your voice and your platform to speak up for what is right, regardless of what the critics say. You empower other women to use their voices. You have been the best role model and friend of my life. You are a pure, good, beautiful human and the world needs more people like you.

On this special day, I wish you all of the happiness in the world. I am so proud of all that you’ve accomplished; you are so beyond deserving. Further, I am overjoyed for the beautiful, real love you’ve been able to find in your personal life with Joe. I hope that you are able to spend this day surrounded by those who you love most (and get lots of kitty cuddles from the girls and Benji). Thank you for sharing your music and your life with us. I wish you so much happiness and know our friendship will continue burning bright, for evermore.
