Sung Hyunjae will always put himself first, he loves himself the most after all. That is an indisputable fact.

So why is it, that throughout the series, whenever he brings up the idea of handing himself over to the Crescent Moon or leaving, he says that it's for Han Yoojin's sake? Every character that has heard him say this line of reasoning always responds with "...You, really?" Even Han Yoojin himself is skeptical.

The action is so inherently selfish but novelly selfless that everyone's confused. But, his actions are in line with his desire to prioritise himself and to care for Han Yoojin.

Hyunjae would've gotten to meet his end, tackle his fate as Sung Hyunjae, no one else. And for Yoojin, well. His number one preferred method seems to be erasing his memories. To remove the cause of his pain (the loss of Sung Hyunjae) and wish him well. To leave him with all that he needs (resources/connections) and distance himself gradually.

It's such a typical self-sacrificial double-edged sword sort of maneuver that it seems out of character for Hyunjae. Yet, for Han Yoojin who Sung Hyunjae views as life itself, isn't it natural that he'd prioritise him? Wish for him to live well?

To Sung Hyunjae, Han Yoojin's wellbeing was on equal priority as his own (even though Yoojin's emotional wellbeing was the cost).

I had a great time working with Cam on this project! January was a very busy month for me so I wasn’t able to be the best partner, but Cam, bless her heart, was so patient and kind and UGH I JUST LOVE HERR

[...] "I'll leave the left eye to the young master." "I mean, why is our Yoohyun-ie even come up here?" "Because if I kept you all for myself, he'd undoubtedly be angry. The young master will be happy to do for you." That... um, I thought he actually would, so I was even more freaked out. I pushed Sung Hyunjae, sitting upright. [...] "There's no need. I'm started to be able to detect light, and even if I can't see forever, other's eyes... uh, I won't need them. I'll just get a monster to be my eyes and raise them." Even now, using the Teacher's skill wasn't that inconvenient. "Besides, if you lose one of your eyes, won't your combat ability diminished? Why would you take such a loss because of me?" chapter 314: It's a Holiday

From unwilling and threatening, that he didn't like Yoojin that much to stake an arm and an eye, to very willingly offering his eyes to a currently blind Yoojin, and this happens on a bed. On. A. Bed.

SHJ : Han Yoojin - my life , Song Taewon - my death

STW : Sung Hyunjae - my pillar, Han Yoojin - my path

HYJ : Sung Hyunjae & Song Taewon - my friends :D

Extras :

Hyj & shj being partners, referring to each other as their caregivers. Mutually taking care and being cared for by one another, as equals.

Stw viewing hyj as spring. Taken from chapter 848 :

"Director Song, untouched by the keyword, spoke in a low voice. A bright yellow flower appeared. The way he saw me, my surroundings, was like spring. Director Song was also stepping closer to me."

That for all shj sees hyj as life, stw views hyj in a similar way. The one human that will see stw as just stw.

Also, shj almost seeing stw as his life too, but stw immediately saying no and leaving it to hyj-

im fucking OBSSESSED with han yoojin. this guy is literally the most insane one in the group. to outsiders he looks like the normal guy. he runs the show. hes the weakest. he defeated one of the main antagonists responsible for his brothers death through the power of sheer derangement. the strongest and the best listen to him. he knows what hes doing. hes absolutely clueless. his only skill is being extremely good at baby sitting. hes a single mom of 50. his relationship with sung hyunjae is so complicated there are no words to describe it. he time travelled to the past. he actually did not. hes overprotective of his brother. this guy fucking realised the one on the news isnt his brother only because "well if it really were my brother he wouldve blown up the entire region not just a building". he said this with pride in his eyes. he is the calmest of them all. hes feral. he has murdered quite a few people with his bare hands. hes innocent. he has monsters as pets. hes dumb as fuck. everyone listens to him. hes fighting for his life every other chapter. this is not the most unhinged thing about him.
