You were sorting the inventory, some of the odd trinkets and doodads ended up in your bag for quick storage, and you couldn’t get rid of the captain’s words out of your mind.
What is your most precious treasure?
There was so much treasure and you were eagerly looking forward to haggling it away at the market tomorrow, but none of it was precious, not to you anyways. Then you look at your small pile of personal items you accumulated over the tip. You smile as you take notice of some particular ones gifted to you by your travel companions.
Laid out carefully on the blanket you spread out over the sand is your journal and feathered pen. Namjoon gifted you the pen, helping you enchant it to never run out of ink. He saw you writing in your journal as you do every evening, shaking an ink well furiously, wishing for just one more drop of ink.
Namjoon wished you would use it in the lessons he forced upon you though, hoping to further your non-existent academic career. You know that is his way of caring though so you humor him. His knowledge did come handy selling some things though and he did have an excellent eye for detail, as long as it wasn’t anything involving romantic intentions.
Next you see a fragile piece of paper with a pressed flower held down by some medicine. While helping Jin look for supplies for his apothecary kit, you found this beautiful flower, one like you never saw the likes of before, growing high up on a cliff. Jin offered to get it to you, saying it was no problem, and he did, but only after a him hanging off the rocky wall and the both of you screaming. He got it though and didn’t die for it so you both counted it as a win. Knowing you didn’t want to see it wilt, Jin offered to press it for you, saying his friend back home showed him how.
The medicine was left over from a cold you got out in the frost lands. It was a mess of a storm, too many ice wolves trying to fight you for your food, and you got separated from the group. Jungkook was able to track you down somehow through it all, and Jin helped you back to health. His soup warmed your heart but his bitter medicine still makes you grimace as you recall the taste.
Thinking of Jungkook, your hand reaches up to touch the feather sticking out of your cap. The young hunter gifted it to you after your previous one got ruined. You were stricken, having gotten it from your family before leaving home. Jungkook had asked you why you were so sad while you were looking down forlornly at your hat and so you told him. He hummed and stalked off with his direwolf, not returning until later that night.
When Jungkook returned, he came back with a beautiful feather and offered it to you. He confessed he couldn’t find a feather from the same species in this area but thought you might like this one, but would understand it you didn’t want it. You take the feather and gave him a kiss on his cheek in thanks, turning his sad pout into one gaping in surprise. Why were your travel companions so clueless when it came to romance?
You can’t help but snort as you think of the clueless men. The most innocent comes to mind and you lean over, searching for the perfect little seashell he gave you. You trace the edges of the shell, and smile as the sense of home hits you. While you love traveling, there are times you do miss your little ocean town that you wished to leave so eagerly.
Taehyung picked up on your feelings easily. When a night came you were close to the coast again, he grabbed your hand and dragged you to the shore. There, you soaked your feet in the ocean and breathed in the salty air while Taehyung searched the beach. He ran over to you excitedly with a boyish grin, handing you the beautiful seashell in front of you now.
Stiffly, you rotate your shoulders, the workout Hoseok put you through earlier starting the burn. The ex-knight saw it as his duty to help train you as his traveling companion, wanting to make sure you can protect yourself. You can fight just fine, your skill with a spear and bow quite impressive, but it never hurts to be more prepared. Just, ouch, he’s trying to over prepare you, that’s for sure.
Hoseok doesn’t talk about his past much, but when you spar you can egg a little out of him. You know he values honor and protecting the innocent like any other knight, but Hoseok fully enacts on those beliefs, and you look up to him for it. As cheesy as it sounds, when you pick up your weapon, you think what would Hoseok do? It has saved you more than once or twice too.
You pick up the last gift from the blanket and unfold a beautiful fan with a snap of your wrist. When you said Hoseok didn’t talk about his past much, that’s an understatement compared to Jimin. The dancer’s sharp glare cuts as much as his deadly knives do so you quickly learned not to ask. It makes you happy though that he’s soften up around the edges some, at least to your group anyways. Plus, it’s hard to stay away from the man that can seduce nearly anyone with his grace. You’re glad he’s on your side.
The fan is decorated with beautiful petals blowing in a stylistic wind. You could sell this for a lot of money, but there’s no way you would do that. Jimin got it for you when you helped him sneak into the mansion to help fulfill part of his revenge plot. He could have gotten you any fan, but he picked one with the same petals as the flower Jin pressed for you. It’s a sign of Jimin opening up to you, and you wouldn’t trade it for the world.
“You could sell that for a high sum, you know.”
“I know,” you snap, closing the fan. Frowning, you turn toward the voice behind you to only see no one there. “Stop showing off.”
When you turn around again, you see Yoongi crouching down over your personal belongings. A coin shines as it flips through his fingers and you pat down your pocket only to find it empty.
“Yoongi, give it back.”
“Is it stealing if I gave it to you in the first place?” Yoongi looks up with a smug grin. It only grows at your frustrated huff.
“Yes, it’s mine now.” You stretch out your hand. “Please.”
“If you insist.” He flicks the coin up in the air and you watch as it flips up into an arch and into your hand. Showoff.
Your thumb traces the foreign mark on the coin before you slide it back into your pocket. Yoongi found the coin from one of his marks’ coin bags. It was useless to him as he didn’t know anyone who took that foreign currency, so you took one of the coins before he could toss them all out, fascinated by its design and wondering how it got to this little corner of world. Yoongi snorted, calling you a kid and saying you could have it so badly if you wanted. You never took any of Yoongi’s stolen goods, except for this little coin.
“What are you thinking about so hard over there?”
For not wanting friends, he sure looked out for you a lot. Always offering help if you wanted it and stepping back when you wanted to do something on your own. He respected your boundaries and talents and you did the same despite not agreeing with each other all the time.
“Just thinking about my most precious treasure.” All these items you hold close to you, but even more so are the memories that surround them and your friends. The eclectic group of people you travel with and this journey you are on is what you love the most in the world.
