Military Wedding
Military Wedding
Military weddings are such an amazing wedding day, the uniforms always add that extra-special touch to any event but a wedding, fantastic!
I have photographed many such weddings through my years in the wedding photography industry and the Wedding for Jonathan and Abigail at the wonder Guyers House (Corsham) was one such wedding.
I arrived to take a few candid shots of Abi and her gorgeous Bridesmaids, Father and Mother of the Bride before heading off to the quaint little church of St Patric’s in Corsham, every close to Guyers House.
When I arrived the lads had already started to practice their Military salute for the Bride and Grooms exit from the Church, after grabbing a few shots of this spectacle I then moved on to take reportage images of guests arriving etc.
Abi arrived in a stunning Rolls Royce Silver Shadow, her wedding gown was absolutely stunning, she looked sensational.
I never interrupt the flow of the bride’s arrival, I want those beautiful natural photos. The ceremony was a wonderful occasion, fantastic when the priest asked the congregation (any reason why this couple cannot be wed) all the lads drew their swords from their scabbards and stood to attention.
Fantastic confetti images as the Bride and Groom walked beneath the Military Salute followed by all the guests throwing confetti.
Guyers House looked wonderful, a beautifully decorated marquee, awaited the newlyweds.
I spent a few moments with Abi and Jonathan, taking them for a very unobtrusive stroll around Guyer House gardens, a few group photos for the happy couple, Abi through her bouquet to the girls which always makes for a fantastic photo opportunity.
I stayed until after the speeches, their first magical dance together as a married couple and then made my way home.
I have added a few of their wonderful wedding images here, beautiful couple, beautiful wedding
Abigail and Jonathan were flying out to Mexico the following Tuesday where I'm sure they'll have a superb honeymoon, congratulations to you both :)

WEGGISHOF – A Mixed-use Wood Hybrid Building on Lake Lucerne
Design: HHF Architects
Location: Weggis, Canton Lucerne, Switzerland
Photos by Iwan Baan and Maris Mezulis
Weggishof Lake Lucerne Apartments
The Weggishof, a mixed-use development in Weggis on Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, is a wood hybrid construction and consists of 39 apartments made of prefabricated wooden elements. These are intersected with a bracing concrete fundament, which houses 1’200 m2 of commercial space with public uses.
The apartments, ranging from simple studios to five-room apartments, are double faced and open to the green, seasonal and biodiversity-oriented courtyard with a garden and a playground, which is a public meeting place for the community.
Weggishof is a pioneering project in the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM). A digital workflow was crafted to allow for dimensional steering of the prefabrication of the standardised wood elements, whose surfaces are left raw for visual impact.
The BIM also supported the project’s high sustainability intentions as it facilitates a more precise layering and system separation of structures and materials. Thus future material recycling will be easier and more efficient.
The modular metal facade gives a vivid identity to the public space while adding a layer of privacy. Thus it acts like an open threshold between the two worlds of prefabricated precision and the surrounding landscape with a striking alpine panorama.
The building nestles into an existing natural U-shaped slope, which allows for structural diversity. Floor heights are staggered to let the new construction blend in with the surroundings without blocking the view of the lake from existing structures. Interestingly, the 39 flats offer a small and large version of each of the different floor plans, providing comparable quality at different scales and budgets.
In the end Weggishof is much more than a sustainable housing project – it also enriches the centre of town with a new urban expression and a public space.

Multimedia Design at its Finest: 10 Award-Winning Projects
It’s always impressive when a design team pulls off a project in which multiple forms of media are blended into a single interactive masterpiece. Zulu Alpha Kilo’s parody site, which was recognized in the websites category of the HOW International Design Awards last year, comes to mind. They combined hilarious short videos, brilliant photography and interactive elements like a Super-Buzzword™ Generator into an unforgettable experience at one point comically referred to by fictional co-founder Frank Zulu as a “web thingy.” Multimedia design at its finest—and funniest.
Equally impressive is when a team creates a brand identity complete with assets that can be put to work effectively across a variety of applications, from business cards and brand books to websites and environmental graphics—all of which come together to ensure an overall impactful brand.
We’re forever inspired by the creatives behind projects like these. That’s why we’re spotlighting the teams below, who kicked butt when it came to developing a unified look and feel for their respective multimedia design projects—all of which have been recognized in the International Design Awards. (This year’s deadline is Monday 9/25 at 11:59pm EDT. Don’t miss it!)

Residenz Eisenerz, St Gallen Switzerland
Residenz Eisenerz, St Gallen Switzerland, St. Gallen Building Design Images, Swiss Project Photos
Residenz Eisenerz in Sargans, St Gallen
30 Sep 2021
Location: Sargans, St. Gallen, Switzerland
Architect: Apropos Architects
Photos by Alex Shoots Buildings
Residenz Eisenerz in Sargans
The Residenz Eisenerz is a rental apartment house is located in Sargans in the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland, at the intersection of three wide valleys, where they create a fertile lowland between the otherwise steep peaks of the surrounding Alps. The Principality of Liechtenstein and famous ski resorts are in close proximity.
The original task was to reconstruct an old self build family house, which was already at the end of its life span and did not meet the requirements of the client. In agreement with the investor, his family and a structural engineer, it was decided that the house will be removed and a new project will be designed to suit the needs of the owner. An invited architectural competition was organized in order to find the best solution. We placed 1st in the competition and from 2016 on we started working on the next phases of the project.
context, inspirations and key concepts for the development of the project The surrounding mountains have become one of the main principles, which shaped the project and the design. Their peaks are important points at which the views from the rooms were oriented and thus forming the proportions and floor plans of the house. The pinkish Verrucano-Schiefer stone, which is found in the local mountains, has become a reference for the materialization of the facade and interior spaces. With regard to sustainability and ecology, a very compact envelope of the whole house was designed. The house is cut as a carved stone, different surfaces of the facades are defined by unique plaster surfaces and enjoy the play of light and shadow. The colour of the house changes during the day from light grey at dawn to pink at sunset.
The other important concept of the house was its housing specifics, which is rental apartment housing. It determined the interior design of the common and private areas and its materials. The materials used in the project had to be of high quality, durable and neutral in order to meet the expectations of a different spectrum of potential tenants. The spatial organization had to be clear and the use of rooms variable. The staircase, terraces and outside common areas are places, where the tenants meet, greet and interact with each other.
spatial configuration The core and heart of the building is a staircase with an elevator, which is located in the middle of the house. The facade is therefore used only by the apartments, which enables generous floor plans with a multi-sided orientation of the rooms and plenty of daylight and views, even from those often overlooked rooms of the house such as bathrooms and kitchens.
The apartments share a similar spatial configuration – no blind corridors without windows and a direct connection to the living areas, so when entering the apartment, a view of the surrounding landscape is always guaranteed. The apartments are not divided into a living and sleeping area, the rooms are accessible from the living room and this trick makes the area of the apartment more efficient.
The tenants of the house were chosen directly by the owner of the building and some of them happened to be old friends or relatives. Due to the new and old relationships, the house functions as one large organism, where in spite of the vast private apartments, people often meet and talk. Each of the five apartments has access to a garden or a private terrace. The largest apartment on the top floor has a terrace all around its perimeter and from the whirlpool located on its roof terrace, there is a view of all the surrounding mountain peaks. All residents of the house have an access to a barbecue area in the garden, where social evenings are held regularly.
In the underground garage there are seven parking spots for cars, which have charging stations for electric cars and eight parking spaces for bicycles. Another parking space for bicycles is located on the ground floor by the entrance to the building. In Switzerland, one bicycle stand is usually counted for each room in the house.
construction techniques and the principal materials used in the project The house is constructed on pillars going into the bearing layer of the subsoil to a depth of 16-20 m. The lower structure is designed using waterproof concrete. Vertical load-bearing structures and ceiling slabs are from monolithic reinforced concrete. This solution meets the requirements for earthquake measures, as the proposed building is located in the 2nd security zone.
The house has external insulation, completed with wood-aluminium windows and it is coated with a heavy cement plaster with a light admixture of local crushed Verrucano stone, which gives the house a light pinkish iron shade. The attic, loggias and places with receding facades, are treated with vertically scraped plaster.
The common areas are made of durable and valuable materials – black steel, exposed concrete and terrazzo on the floor. The exposed concrete in the staircase and bathrooms underlines a certain rawness of the house. The materialization of the building refers both to the long-term business tradition of the investor’s family together with the context of the local metal industry and its long history represented by the surrounding mountains with iron mines.
The same unifying und durable style is used in the private areas of the apartments. The minimalist kitchens with durable granite countertops, multi-layer wooden floors, built-in wardrobes, bathrooms in beige and light blue, they all create a variable space fulfilling diverse wishes of the tenants.
energy efficient elements, sustainability The mountain location, its relationship to nature and ecological views meant, that the house is designed in the Swiss ecological standard “Minergie”. The ground source heat pump serves as the main energy source. The heat pump is attached to four ground probes and supported by solar electricity from the roof of the building. Gains from this energy source are used in the building, or sold back to the public network. Individual apartments have controlled ventilation. Fresh air is supplied from the roof level, and is distributed to individual apartments via a heat exchanger in vertical shafts.
The interior of the building is protected against overheating by outdoor screen shades. Installation boxes for exterior shading are hidden in thermally insulated facades and plastered.
Air conditioning distribution units are placed in the ceiling slabs of the building. The supply and exhaust is realized by air ventilation grilles in the ceiling.

Location: Bern, Switzerland
Weltpostpark site in Bern
Sustainable architecture in an urban context
The three residential buildings on the Weltpostpark site in Bern site have been completed
Photos © Ruedi Walti
Basel/Bern – The last apartments in the SSA Architekten-designed Weltpostpark development are now occupied. The striking six-storey residential buildings have an urban feel about them, while the park-like surroundings and the varied clinker brick facades create a homely atmosphere. What’s more, the high-quality architecture also includes affordable residential units and the development’s demand for energy is met in its entirety by regenerative resources.
The Oberes Murifeld site is a heterogeneous mixed residential and urban quarter. Facing the Weltpoststrasse road are the larger office blocks of the Weltpostverein alongside a number of commercial and industrial buildings. A motorway marks the northern limits of the site. In between are a range of villas, allotments and smaller parks.
The design concept of the three residential buildings by SSA Architekten takes its cue from this variety of surrounding elements. The heights of the Weltpostpark buildings are aligned with the six-storey office blocks. The angled volume (House A) establishes a flowing transition to the housing developments and the greenbelt to the west, while the stretched building (House B) shelters a quiet courtyard from the noise of the adjacent motorway. Several spaces for retail and commercial premises along the Weltpoststrasse road are provided on the ground floor of the U-shaped structure (House C).
The landscapers of Fontana Landschaftsarchitektur created a park-like environmental concept for the pedestrianised courtyards. It has its starting point in the already established nature protection zone to the west which has now been integrated as a park into the final concept. The greenbelt flows through the densely developed site with its sealed surfaces and variety of communal areas and conveys a welcoming and homely atmosphere.
The overall concept creates an attractive, sheltered residential area. This is also helped by the high-quality clinker brick facades. At first sight the surfaces and colours of the clearly cut structures do not differ much from conventional facades. However, the kilned bricks are not mounted with the clean obverse layer towards the exterior, as would be usual, but with the rough base set into the visible outer side of the wall.
Another “little difference” can be found in the clay used for the bricks: in House A it tends towards a reddish brown, House B is more of a brighter red and for House C the architects chose a grey-brown clinker brick. The subtly diverging colours and design of the facades provide the residential ensemble with its own identity.
Slightly protruding metal frames enhance the deep soffits of the loggias and ceiling-high windows. These contrast with the rough surface of the bricks and the irregular appearance of the clinker facade. A horizontal pattern is created by overhanging stonework at the sheltered entrances to the buildings. The bond of the bricks is discontinued at the access to the garage in order to brighten up this area.
There were several reasons for the client Swiss Prime Site Immobilien AG to develop the site into a residential area. The Murifeld is only a couple of stops away from Bern’s city centre when taking the tramway. And the demand for housing in the city remains high, especially in the affordable price bracket. In House C the monthly net rentals for some of the three-bedroom apartments is set at CHF2,000.-, which is a very affordable price for a new build apartment in Switzerland. This is also in accordance with the target set by the city of Bern to increase the number of affordable rental units by 1,000 by the year 2025.
The developer of the Weltpostpark was one of the first to support this initiative. At the same time the corporation attaches significant importance to a high standard of building quality, as this reduces long-term running and maintenance costs. And the mix from studio units to flexibly usable four-bedroom apartments covers a wide range of different types of housing.
The different options and rental price brackets available will also ensure a social diversification. Most of the floor plans of the 170 units are dual aspect. This creates a more even lighting and enables cross ventilation of the apartments. All units are compact and the circulation areas are minimised. More space for the loggias and their generous private spaces was made possible by placing the stairwells within the building volumes.
All buildings are certified to Swiss Minergie-ECO standards and are constructed in accordance with the SIA Energy-Efficiency Path (SIA 2040), and 100% of the demand for energy in the development is met by regenerative sources, including solar energy. Heat output and hot water processing takes place through four ice storage systems combined with wastewater heat regeneration.
In conclusion, the Weltpostpark sets standards. The quality of the architecture and the construction work are both very high. The dimensions of the structures send out an urban vibe, while the landscaping resembles that of a park. The energy concept is exemplary and the residential buildings meet the demand for affordable rental units.

SSA Architekten
SSA Architekten is a Swiss architectural office with thirty employees that is based in Basel and Visp and operates throughout Switzerland. The office, which is managed by Herbert Schmid, Ibo Aktepe, Michael Armbruster, Daniel Hoefer and Alexander Stakelbeck can look back on more than 25 years of experience in planning complex and demanding projects for private and institutional clients as well as the public sector.
The range of projects spans all sizes: from residential housing to infrastructure buildings to urban planning and site developments in connection with construction on vacant lots. The requirements set by the clients in relation to functionality, budget and deadlines are the basis for an independent architectural language which is dedicated to equally fulfilling the functional and aesthetic demands.
For SSA, sustainability which goes beyond purely numerical values is always paramount: flexibility of floor plans, innovative energy concepts and the durability of materials used are the foundation for buildings that are fit for purpose and which will outlast the zeitgeist. A selection of some of SSA’s significant projects: new build of Visp train station, WellnessHostel4000 & Aqua Allalin Saas-Fee, new build European headquarters Fossil Basel.
