Alright Gus fucking sevenfer in the end??
Also Jimmy getting the last wicket of the innings 🥲
Not doing too bad with the bat - would be good to have caught their runs by stumps (though this weird delay might stop us from doing that)

Curious squad announcements
England squad for ODI series against New Zealand: Jos Buttler (captain), Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Sam Curran, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Reece Topley, David Willey, Mark Wood, Chris Woakes.
I mean, it’s incredibly similar to the squad of four years ago that won and won dramatically, which is mainly good. I mean, they absolutely won on a wing and a prayer, but the same team will have the same wings and prayers, so. I’m curious if S Curran will be in the starting XI. Probably - hopefully - and it seems to me that he’s the one projected to take on the Ben Stokes, batting-six-and-there-at-the-end role, and he doesn’t seem ready for that now so I guess the inclusion of Stokes is good. Just, you know, it’s better if everyone arrives in India with the Captain able to move.
I’m a bit surprised by the inclusion of Jason Roy. He hasn’t done much for a while. I guess I’m pleased in the sense that I like loyalty to players, but I was expecting Jacks, Crawley and Foakes and they have all contributed more to recent matches (although admittedly in different formats). But I’m also pleased because I have loyalty to players and if J-Roy can find some form with Jonny, England will stand in incredible stead.
Leaving out Harry Brook though.
Chuffed for David Willey.
England squad for T20 series against New Zealand: Jos Buttler (captain), Rehan Ahmed, Moeen Ali, Gus Atkinson, Jonny Bairstow, Harry Brook, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Josh Tongue, John Turner, Luke Wood.
Yay, Will Jacks! I think he might be the crucial test player of the future so it’s nice to see him beginning to be included. Also great to see more Rehan Ahmed.
I wondered about Crawley, but the red ball and white ball teams seem to be pulling away from each other to some degree, so I’m not that surprised.
No Dan Lawrence in either format, which is a shame.
I don’t recall Gus Atkinson when Surrey have played Middlesex but I guess he must be something. Surrey are certainly an extremely strong side - the white ball team isn’t a million miles from a Surrey 1st XI. Which brings me to…
Seriously. Has Foakes set fire to a pavilion? Murdered a groundskeeper? Chained himself to The Oval and refused to leave?

With Broady gone and Jimmy about to retire :((( who do you think will be England's bowling attack from now on? Stuart recently made a statement that Jimmy's retirement (and his own too) leaves England wanting desperately for some experience. And I have to agree with him. I'll admit it, England aren't my team, so the only time I watch their tests is when they are playing against my team, India, and a bit of the ashes here and there. But very honestly, I can't remember any fast bowler apart from Jimmy and Stu to feature consistently in the admittedly small sample of matches I have. Woody is probably the next most consistent to these two. I remember Woakesy was there in the 2020 and the 2021 Ind test series, but I don't think he was there for the recently concluded 2024 one? Or if he did play, it wasn't more than a match or two. Again I remember Sam Curran being really good in the India series in 2018, and I'm pretty sure he played in the 2020 and 2021 series, but again, I don't recall him playing the 2024 one. Which is mystifying tbh, because Sam was absolutely great in the 2018 series, even Kohli said so and credited him with being the difference in the two sides or something like that. And I remember Ollie Robinson played a few against us, because he got into this pretty publicized sledging battle with Virat once. Apart from these three, whom I remember distinctively, I can remember some pacers like Olly (Stone I think??), Craig Overton, Josh Tongue, etc. playing, but they haven't featured consistently in squads or lineups. So who do you think can take up the Jimmy and Stuart mantle now? Because I can't seem to remember anybody who's consistently partnered Jimmy and Stu over the years, and has at least a fraction of their experience.
(God I am so not ready for Jimmy to retire, he debuted before i was born, so I assumed that he's been playing forever and he will continue to play forever 😭😭😭😭)
So I agree - one of the reasons Stuart and Jimmy never retired together was to keep the experience in the dressing room. I also very much think Jimmy has been pushed out rather than left of his own accord. I really desperately hope that he does stay on as bowling coach because at least then we don’t lose that experience.
We have all the ones you listed - woody is more impact than long spells, Jofra is hopefully coming back to tests soon, Sammy should hopefully get another chance, Gus Atkinson as well is being listed as the next one to watch. Woakesy didn’t play in the recent India test but I hope they do bring him back into the home attack. We also have tongue, Overton, stone. Personally I don’t rate Robinson but he’ll likely get a few more goes as we now try and work out what our future bowling attack looks like.
It was always going to be like this when either/both Stuart and Jimmy went because they’ve been the backbone of the England test squad for so long. I mean good on the management team seeing the India performance and declaring something needed changing. I just hope they do it right or it’s gonna be a tough few years

BBC Strictly Come Dancing star quits as 2023 line-up announced As judges, Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Craig Revel Horwood, and Anton Du Beke will all be back. According to The MEN, Shirley will continue to serve as head judge despite concerns over her future. After the Strictly tour, she chose to take a vacation from TV and refocus on her own profession for a bit in order to preserve her sanity, she claimed in an exclusive interview with the Mirror last month. Since I work two jobs concurrently, it was much simpler for me to take a break from TV and take care of my health. "Am I going to return to Strictly? I proceed step by step at all times. I adore my job to pieces. I can't conceive of a job that would be more fulfilling if it were just that and nothing else. Dianne Buswell, Nadiya Bychkova, Graziano Di Prima, Amy Dowden, Karen Hauer, Katya Jones, Neil Jones, Nikita Kuzmin, Gorka Marquez, Luba Mushtuk, Giovanni Pernice, Jowita Przystal, Johannes Radebe, Kai Widdrington, Nancy Xu, Carlos Gu, Lauren Oakley, Michelle Tsiakkas, and Vita Coppola have confirmed that they will return. Two years after entering the line-up and performing in the ensemble, dancer Cameron Lombard has left the show, according to the line-up. It follows rumors that Spanish-born Gorka, who now resides in Greater Manchester with his fiancée Gemma Atkinson, was planning to leave the show after failing to catch Helen Skelton at the Glitterball in December. Following complaints from fans that the dancer and former Blue Peter anchor Helen had been "robbed," Gorka and even Gemma disputed the allegations.   Read the full article

[ad_1]   Photograph of Nathan Barnwell in the nets Subhayan Chakraborty in Brisbane Shubman Gill stood still at the crease, eyeing the spot where the ball pitched and zipped past his bat, taking a slender edge during India’s net session at the Gabba on Friday, the eve of the third Test against Australia. It was the last 15 minutes of his net session, and the 25yearold had looked solid until that moment. India’s bowling coach Morne Morkel and several local net bowlers, all pacers, were bowling to Gill. Among them, one stood out. Nathan Barnwell, Surrey pacer with 8 List-A appearances and one first-class game to his name, currently in Queensland to refine his bowling during England’s winter season. Although Barnwell didn’t bowl many deliveries to Gill, perhaps only around ten, he earned praise from Morkel and Ryan Ten Doeschate for his show. With Gill eager to face Morkel to conclude another lengthy batting session, the former South African pacer called up a few net bowlers for support. He handed the new ball to 21-year-old Barnwell, who idolises Michael Holding and Jofra Archer, after a brief chat while warming up. While Morkel bowled with a shorter run-up, Barnwell charged infull throttle. His first delivery caught Gill’s outside edge, leaving one of India’s star batters slightly stunned. Interestingly, Morkel and Barnwell share a connection. During Morkel’s last season with Surrey in 2019, Barnwell was in the Surrey academy. Barnwell later signed his first professional contract with Surrey in 2022. Morkel remembered him, and they briefly caught up before the India nets began. “I actually know him a bit because he played at Surrey,”Barnwell told RevSportz. “I wasn’t signed then, but I was in the academy when he was there in his last year. So, I got to learn about him back then, and it was good to catch up. That’s the first time I’ve seen him since then. So, good to catch up with him. I wasn’t really talking too much about bowling, just about what I’m doing out here, my plans, stuff like that. He’s a cool guy.” Barnwell’s parents are from Guyana, but he was born in South London, and his allegiance is firmly with England. He has already picked up tips from Chris Jordan and Gus Atkinson and aims to carry that forward. After a couple of deliveries where he beat Gill with sheer pace and bounce, Barnwell again caught Gill’s edge a delivery later. With three edges and a couple of narrow misses against Gill, Barnwell’s performance was notable, especially since Ten Doeschate inquired about his availability for future India nets. That suggested the possibility of seeing him bowling to India’s batters again. “It’s a great experience to bowl at a player of that calibre,” said Barnwell. “You don’t often get to do it. To have a good spell against someone who’s at the top of their game, at the top of the world, is very fun. I’m working on a few things, so it’s good to try them out against him. But he’s a great player, and I definitely want to keep watching. I’ll remember this for a long time, hopefully using it to learn and improve in the future, and maybe one day, I’ll play against him.” Though early in his career, Barnwell aspires to play for England and dreams of featuring in the IPL. “I love how passionate Indians are about cricket,” he said. “I follow the IPL closely, especially Rajasthan Royals. So one day, maybe, I’ll play against India and in the IPL. Fingers crossed. I wish the team well for the upcoming games here.”  Also read:  Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant return to the scene of India’s greatest Test win, while Harshit Rana and Ravindra Jadeja must wait to see if they find a place in the XI at the Gabba.
