The Gundam Mk-II from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam.
I thoroughly enjoyed Zeta and thought the Mk-II was a terrific design. So, of course, I had to build one. And this Real Grade kit gets terrific reviews - so that's what I chose.
Tumblr media
As usual, we've got the Real Grade's Advanced MS Joint B-runner.
I'm amazed every time I build one of these old RG kits. I don't understand how or why they'd mold these moving parts into a runner like this. It's an amazing technical feat... But it can't actually improve manufacturing costs, can it?
Tumblr media
There's a runner of ABS parts in this kit, which I don't love. There's nothing wrong with ABS... It's actually great for hard-wearing parts that need to be more durable. But the flow-type panel-liners I like to use absolutely destroy ABS, so I have to be very careful with them.
Tumblr media
Since this is an RG kit we get a tiny little pilot figure - Kamille Bidan. At this scale, though, you can barely make out any detail. And since I won't actually be using this figure in the kit, I'm not going to bother painting it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This kit includes a length of wire and some braided cloth tubing for added detail. It's honestly pretty annoying to work with, and I'm not convinced it adds much to the model. I'm pretty sure you could just do a molded plastic detail instead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This kit has you build the entire inner-frame first, which was kind of neat. Of course I had to grab a quick picture of the thing under-construction because I'll never see that stripped-down inner-frame again.
Unfortunately, due to the way this inner-frame is built, disassembling the kit for decals and topcoat later is going to be a pain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Once the inner-frame is built there's a great process of layering the armor up over it. It was very satisfying. There's some fantastic detail and color-separation. And unlike some other RG kits there wasn't anything I really felt I needed to glue in place.
Tumblr media
This kit comes with the usual RG sticker-style decals, which I don't generally love. I used the shiny green ones for the eyes and some cameras. I stuck a couple of the gold ones on inner-frame bits of the legs. But that's about it.
Tumblr media
I picked up some G-Rework waterslide decals for this kit. Broadly speaking, I like the added flair of G-Rework's designs. They're a little more interesting than the standard Bandai decals. They seem to be easier to apply, and stick better, too.
Unlike the last batch of G-Rework decals - these seem to basically follow Bandai's numbering which made them much easier to apply.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was a very satisfying build.
I really enjoyed building the entire inner-frame first and then layering the armor over it. The kit feels pretty solid... There's a couple bits I keep pulling off when posing... But nothing that really feels that loose or fragile. Nothing I think I'm going to need to glue in place.
Again, I find myself wishing for more pre-posed hands. There's some in this kit - a couple closed fists, one open hand, and one gun-holding hand. But, again, we're going to be stuck with those semi-poseable RG hands a lot of the time. Like there isn't even a pre-posed hand we can use to hold a beamsaber.
I'm definitely going to have to pick up the Titans version of this kit - just for the excuse to build it again.
And I'm actually debating trying the RG Zeta Gundam kit... I don't love the design of the Zeta Gundam in the first place. And I've heard it called one of the worst RG kits out there. But it kind of feels like I should build it just for completion.

if i can recommend one HG Gunpla to someone uninitiated but who wants to give it a try and start with a HG, i recommend Gundam Mk II.
It's iconic, the build experience is satisfying, it's got top notch articulations and gimmicks, and it comes in two colors (dark blue/black for Titans and white for AEUG)
Legit one of my favourite HGs of my collection and i love toying with it

Title: Cuteness Member - Mark
Today, I'm celebrating my dA friend, "Spider-CatEarthHTF99's" birthday (formerly known him as "MarkTheTreeKitty1998" / "El-Gato-Arania"). I've already make an artwork for him, so I won't shown ya for the next year. 😉 Happy Birthday, dude! 🎊🥳🎂
• Nonetheless, instead, here's my throwback of Mark 🐱 and his AU of enrolling "Cuteness Defender Academy". With his first "Cuteness Mecha Armor" was the same armor as Flat the Mouse [CLICK ME!] (from "My Melody" franchise) albeit a color changed (the "Titans Color" suits him perfectly); the armored "G Mk-II" / "Gundam Mk-II". 🤖🙂
G-Mark Mk-II [Titans Color] Based on: RX-178 Gundam Mk-II [CLICK ME!]
Armament(s):
• Beam Saber he only fixed armament of the suit are two beam sabers for close combat, which, like the ones of the original RX-78-2, were stored in recharge racks on the backpack of the suit when not needed.
• Beam Rifle Since beam rifles were now a common equipment of most mobile suits, the Mk-II was also equipped with one as its main armament. Each rifle had its power rated at 2.6 MW and was powered by a replaceable e-pac, with two spare e-pacs stored in the shield of the suit.
• Clay Bazooka A projectile-firing bazooka, as its name indicates, the clay bazooka was originally designed to fire adhesive rounds which immobilize enemy machines rather than destroying them outright. However, this weapon can fire several different types of ammunition, and it's normally used with conventional explosive shells. Like the hyper bazooka it was clip-fed and capable of carrying seven rounds per clip plus 1 round in its chamber. Again additional clips could be stored on the rear skirt armor storage rack.
• Hyper Bazooka For heavy firepower, the Mk-II could carry a large hyper bazooka, which was clip-fed and capable of carrying seven rounds per clip plus 1 round in its chamber. Additional clips could be stored on the rear skirt armor storage rack.
• Shield As with most other "CMA" suits, the Mk-II carries a single physical shield for defense on its left arm.
Special Equipment & Feature(s):
• Flying Armor The Flying Armor was designed so any "Cuteness Mecha Armors" could lock its feet into place at the top of the rear section. Additionally, two sections at the front contained grips so the "CMA" suit could lock into the Flying Armor with all four limbs if necessary. The surface area of the Flying Armor was enough to cover and protect the entire "CMA" suit during atmospheric entry. There are also hover nozzles on the bottom, allowing it to function as a sub-flight system within the atmosphere.
• FXA-05D G-Defenser The FXA-05D G-Defenser is a fighter craft created to support the Mk-II in battle. and connected to make a Super G Mk-II.

Episode 21: A Sign of Zeta
i know the zeta gundam is a separate thing to the mk ii, i've been to the gunpla wall at my local hobby store. is this where it gets introduced?
the opening narration is now asking me to do a book report on last episode. i refuse
oh there's a von braun city? lol. lmao.
do the titans not already control von braun? what's the deal with federation control of things, because the only way this makes sense is if they're more like the eu than an actual country
oh, so the titans are trying to set up for a coup. makes more sense, i should have just kept watching
hello mr. hymen
or is von braun an attempt at an independent colony? i really like the little bits and pieces of worldbuilding this show drops, but it's really good at making me want to know more. i won't be checking out supplementary stuff unless shared though
the still unnamed purple man has a ship that can project his image out front. i can respect it
paptimus scirocco! it's been over 10 episodes and he finally gets a name
scirocco signs contracts in his own blood. what a character
going to ignore that his name is spelt hymann here, he's hymen in my heart
what a weird contract. hymen is his boss, and the leader of a fascist organization. it kind of goes without saying that he'll kill you if you betray him. this feels like suspiciously specific denial
lmao, kamille you gotta cut the mic before you start bitching!
bright: everybody stop fighting! emma: aww, come on. let them get it out of their system bright: no! this is the bridge!!!
normally i disapprove of bright slaps, but if it's to interrupt a fight in progress i'm fine with it
yay emma! normally when people are mean to kamille it doesn't feel earned, but emma is actually talking about something that's a problem with him
paptimus scirocco looks and acts like he's buddies with akio ohtori
i like these mobile armors, they look like cool bug robots
oh hey jerid, i forgot you weren't dead. and you have a friend, mouar
also the animation got a big boost here
lmao jerid has a cravat now
scirocco wants to put a women in charge? good, we need more girlbosses in gundam
i like that there's no hard feelings, and now they just want to bum the porn they assume kamille got on earth
i like how this show goes full anime with the hair colors, when they were pretty grounded in 0079 from what i remember
having a battleship cannon was what made the gundam such a threat early on. char fled their first battle when he realized that, and could have won if he hadn't. so it's interesting that battleship cannons have apparently progressed so much along with mobile suits over the years
i was already convinced the new mobile suits were cool, you didn't need to go this far for my sake
uh oh! being ejected from the gundam probably isn't good. neither is it losing its arm, but that's fixable
oh shit, fa's helping! hell yeah, glad to see her doing things
the zeta gundam!
scirocco sucks a lot, i respect that
this episode ruled. i liked the focus on the titans and scirocco, i liked the new mobile suits, i liked that it made me somewhat interested in fa, i liked that we finally got a sense of what the argama crew was like beyond legacy characters emma and kamille. good shit!

Sisquiede (AEUG) as it appears in SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays
Origin: SD Gundam G Generation: Monoeye Gundams (Game/Manga)
Timeline: Alternate Universal Century
Unit Type: Prototype Close Quarters Combat Mobile Suit
Pilot(s): Siegfried Wedner
Developer: Leipzig Newtype Research Institute
Operator: Anti-Earth Union Group (AEUG)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: This MS comes from an alternate, non-canonical version of the UC timeline during its version of the events of Zeta Gundam.
TECHNOLOGY & DEVELOPMENT
Developed at the same time as the Gundam Mk-II as part of the old Principality of Zeon's "Monoeye Gundam" plan, it was originally never realized due to Zeon's defeat in the One Year War, but the Titans obtained data on the project and finished developing the concept machines for their own use.
The Sisquiede, alongside its sibling machine the LRX-088 Dezpada, were developed as high performance mobile suits meant to protect the LRX-066 Tera-S'ono, a third unit that was unarmed but had the ability to cause enemy pilots to go berserk. As the name "Monoeye Gundams" implies, its a mobile suit using the frame of a Gundam-type but the monoeye sensors of a Zeon suit.
It was an extremely high performance suit, leagues above many mobile suits of the Gryps Conflict. However, because the Titans, in their infinite wisdom, designed it to be used by an Oldtype (to complement the newtype-use Dezpada), it proved too powerful to handle. A custom OS had to be developed to limit the performance to levels a normal human could comfortably handle. As is typical, this limiter could be unlocked to switch the Sisquiede into "Offense Mode", allowing it to fight at its full potential at the cost of putting an excessive amount of stress on the pilot and limiting its operation time.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EQUIPMENT
Its main weapon an I-Field Launcher, a unique cannon that combined a long-range beam rifle with a powerful megacannon. It housed a built-in I-Field generator that provided the Sisquiede with great defensive capabilities against beam projectiles. It was also equipped with a standard beam saber.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HISTORY
The Sisquiede was stolen from the Gryps space colony by Siegfried Wedner, an AEUG member and former member of Zeon's special forces at roughly the same time the Gundam Mk-II was stolen by Quattro Bajeena and Kamille Bidan. It was later painted in a similar color scheme to the Mk-II and used by Siegfried as his personal mobile suit.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Personal Opinion: GUNDAMS WITH MONOEYES?? I'm genuinely surprised this isn't a more frequent occurence in Gundam, it seems like such a no-brainer. In that regard, the Sisquiede is absolutely gorgeous, I think it looks great and I'm kind of sad by how underused it is; guess its to be expected since its not canon.

I draw a pen doodle every day until I forget
Day 20: Gundam MK. II (Zeta Gundam)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today’s drawing is the Titans colored Gundam Mk. II! I know that the titans are very bad people, but I will applaud their color scheme and mech designs! Zeta is full of great mobile suits, and I think based on that alone, you should watch it.
Now, in terms of the drawing itself, it was very rushed, and I think it’s easy to tell. I should have spend more time making the proportions line up, and I feel bad that I made such a cool design a little too wonky. Maybe I’ll give it another shot tomorrow and see if I can fix it!
(As a little bonus today, have the abandoned first drawing I did of today’s Gundam Mk II)

This is the Real Grade 1/144 scale Nu Gundam. It’s a good kit that I got a little bit after the kit initially released. I remember when it released that a lot of Gunpla reviewers kept praising it as not only the best RG kit but the best Gunpla kit all the way around.
That’s why I got one and built it, to see if I agreed with those folks and after building it, I didn’t agree with it. Does it have good articulation? Yes. Does it look good? Yes. Is there anything wrong with the kit or how it went together? No.
I personally just find the Nu Gundam to be very boring. Now, the times I’ve said that, people have said that I didn’t put any of the decals on or panel line it which is why the kit looks plain but that’s not why I think it’s boring. I think it’s boring for the reason that I find most main Gundams boring and that’s because they don’t have enough color. Even then, people say to just paint the kit and I am not doing that as I just enjoy snap building Gunpla.
It is a good kit but I think that reviewers and other people in the Gunpla and Gundam community overhyped this kit and it all comes down to personal preference. People may think this kit is the best Gunpla kit ever. I do think it’s ONE of the best RG kit but I’ve built other Gunpla in other scales that are way better. My favorite RG will always be the MK-II Titans Ver. but the RG Nu Gundam is still a good kit....But I do hate the funnels with a passion which is why I didn’t bother with them.

Been playing Gundam battle Gunpla Warfare again lately, since I last played they added a skin system and custom pbr painting with luster and metallic controls. Top are my main/controlled gunpla the Halifax Space Commander Version and my new melee ai backup Legionnaire. Both are skins, below are the original gunplas they’re attached to, the Halifax and Therian. Neither of the original suits has been repainted with the new system since they’re skinned, so I think Halifax was using mostly  Mobile Worker and Guncannon colors while Therian used Dom and Dom Tropen colors.  Of the four I think Therian is the only one that could reasonably be considered “a gundam”, as I think all of its armor comes from a couple different Gundams. Most of Legionnaire is actually gundam too I guess but not the head (Geara Doga) and torso (Gerbera Tetra) which gives it a very un-gundam-like look (especially with Rose’s very rounded legs). Original Halifax is mostly a Gerbera Tetra but with Deathscythe’s legs, Halifax SCV replaces the legs with the Zeong’s thrusters and the torso and head with the Hygogg one-piece upper body - both have a Gafran beam cannon on the back. Both versions of Halifax use the same abilities - the Gafran cannon, the machine cannons in the Gerbera Tetra arms, and the multi-shot missile launcher in the Titans Gundam Mk-II shield, as well as both having the SUMO’s handgun. All its abilities have moderate cool downs and multiple uses between and work about equally well for taking out a larhe number of small enemies or just emptying them into one boss as fast as possible. I don’t especially know or care what my other suits actually do in battle since I don’t pilot them lol, but I do know Legionnaire has the Shining Finger, while Therian could use the original Gundam’s Last Shooting ability

( Wow I really didn’t take a lot of screencaps this early on, much less a lot of great ones. )
During peace time, and Quattro is nearly killed by a mobile suit.
Whereas Slender, Denim, and Gene infiltrated Side 7 with their mobile suits, which eventually led to Gene starting up the side 7 massacre, Quattro doesn’t bring his Rick Dias into the colony because he’s actually intent on avoiding that same mistake. He’s also doing this solo and having Apolly and Roberto for backup in case something does happen to him.
And of course, the Gundam was primarily known as “the white mobile suit of the Federation” or variants of that and Amuro eventually became the Federation’s answer to Char and was nicknamed the “White Devil.” So to get across that the Titans are the main antagonistic force (and we have to do that early on since Char is present), the Gundam is now the opposite color. To top off the contrast, the Mk. II’s eyes glow green whereas the original Gundam’s eyes glowed pink upon activation.
A lot of this first episode is essentially a new take on 0079′s, but it’s neither lazy nor derivative because using a lot of these characters or imagery within this sequel puts them in a new context. Repetition used right will make a new point.

Otakon 2019: Studio Trigger Interview
Tumblr media
Patrick and Tom were fortunate enough to sit down with Hiromi Wakabayashi, Shigeto Koyama, and Hiroyuki Imaishi at Otakon this year to discuss PROMARE and our collective love of robots. As a heads up this interview was conducted before we had seen PROMARE
Patrick: Let’s start with something very simple – we like robots. I know you guys like robots. I’ve heard this about everyone from Trigger, when they come to America… have you guys done any toy shopping yet while you’ve been here? Have you been looking for anything fun?
WAKABAYASHI: Target. If you have any local suggestions, any toy stores, we’d be more than interested to hear your take.
Patrick: All the good toy stores keep disappearing. No more Toys ‘R’ Us.
WAKABAYASHI: Where can American nerds even get their toy fix anymore?
Patrick: Internet, conventions, <laughs> ...Target. Wal-Mart has been reissuing Transformers, so if you’re looking for that stuff, they’re all there.
WAKABAYASHI: That’s very helpful. I have high hopes for this interview.
Tom: PROMARE is, of course, a CG work, the first of its kind for Trigger really. SSSS.GRIDMAN also had a good amount of CG elements in it. How did work on Gridman help prepare Trigger for PROMARE?
IMAISHI: Gridman’s production team is separate from PROMARE, so we didn’t actually use Gridman for experimentation. The foundation or main concept of each project is completely different to begin with. For PROMARE, the idea was to incorporate both 2D and 3D animation. However, for Gridman, the idea was to replicate the tokusatsu feel. So what the Gridman team did was, any place a tokusatsu production would use miniatures they would instead create that with CG animation and models.
Tom: What do you find are the challenges and limitations of CG as opposed to 2D? Or do you find that the two are good enough at different things that it doesn’t really matter?
IMAISHI: I feel, in the Japanese CG industry at least, that there’s a limitation of expression with CG animation. This doesn’t just mean characters – both characters and mecha I feel there’s a limit to what we can express with CG animation. For example, let’s say there’s a very close-up scene of a particular character’s arm, and part of that arm gets damaged. We would have to make a completely new model for that damaged arm. If it’s 2D, we just draw a little bit over it and it’s done. There’s good and bad with both 2D and CG. CG animation has to be planned out very well prior to execution. I can’t just make a change or fix on a whim, where that would be easier with 2D animation.
Patrick: To follow up on that with both you and Mr. Koyama, how does using CG more heavily inform your approach to design – character design, world design, any of that? Does it change how you approach that or is it largely the same?
KOYAMA: It definitely feel it affects design, be it characters or any models in general. I knew PROMARE would be a project that heavily used CG animation, so I kept that in mind when designing characters in accordance with how it would be executed within the film.
Patrick: Do you feel like it was at all liberating to work knowing it would be animated in CG, or not?
KOYAMA: Knowing it would be in CG, I avoided designing things that would be hard to execute, but I didn’t feel like it held me back. More angular designs like the Rescue Gears are usually harder to animate when it’s hand-drawn, so I was able to incorporate that kind of design more freely for PROMARE. You can see the pilot in the chest portion of one of the Gears – that kind of thing would be hard to execute if it was hand-drawn. If there’s any kind of drawback to designing for CG animation, it’s that I have to make the designs very detailed. When it’s hand-drawn, the animators can help fill in the blanks on the angles the model sheets don’t show. That doesn’t happen when it’s CG.
Patrick: That’s interesting, since I feel like a lot of your design sensibility tends to be very rounded, with less hard angles. Seeing CG as an advantage for more angular design is an interesting shift.
KOYAMA: It’s actually harder in CG animation to show round objects, especially in terms of shading. It’s hard to make the shadows fall in a way that feels convincing. That’s a reason I avoided my more traditional, round design.
Tom: What do you feel it is about Studio Trigger’s work in particular that resonates so well with international audiences?
WAKABAYASHI: This isn’t me speaking for everyone at Trigger, but I personally feel that it resonates well with the international fans is because, at least in the projects I’m involved in, I don’t have a particular demographic in mind. I make a project or get involved in one with the mindset of executing an interesting idea that I wanted animated. I just put in what I think is interesting, that I want everyone to see. That’s my motivation. Maybe that’s why it resonates so well with the fans, the nerdy types across the globe.
IMAISHI: I feel similarly, where I don’t have a specific demographic in mind, but I do feel like I pay a little closer attention to make sure the Japanese audience understands what I’m trying to get across. The international fans seem to be more open-minded; I can get away with more.
KOYAMA: I also agree. I basically put a concentrated form of what I like into the work. It’s entertainment, and what I want out of entertainment is what I put into what I create. Hopefully the people watching my stuff are entertained by the same things.
Patrick: You’ve found an audience of people like yourself that want to see the same cool stuff.
KOYAMA: That’s probably it. We’re not too bright, and maybe our audience is similar. <laughter> That’s a compliment, by the way. We’re all family.
Tom: SSSS.GRIDMAN represented a different kind of work for Trigger in that it was based on a licensed property. What would be a character or IP that you’d personally want to work on given the chance?
WAKABAYASHI: Before we answer, I’d just like to note that although Gridman was an existing property we feel like it leans towards being original content as well. We only borrowed the idea, taking Gridman as a concept. Usually when we say “adaptation” it’s like a manga or comic being adapted to animation with the same or similar story and the same characters. I don’t feel like Gridman followed that method. Among us at Team Imaishi, we generally like doing original work. But if we had to choose, it would probably be along the lines of Transformers or Marvel.
KOYAMA: <laughing> I’d like to do Steamboat Willie.
WAKABAYASHI: Maybe the steamboat could transform into something.
Tom: Sounds like a good idea for a toy. For our last question, since we are a robot anime-themed podcast: I have to ask, what’s your favorite robot?
<Wakabayashi, Imaishi, and Koyama all agonize over their decision>
WAKABAYASHI: This changes quite often, but as of right now, July 27 at 11AM, it’s Hot Rod from Transformers: The Movie. Tomorrow it may be something else.
IMAISHI: I recently bought a soft vinyl toy of Zambot 3, so that’s my current favorite.
KOYAMA: I was just browsing through Twitter and I’m heavily influenced by my feed, so I don’t know if I can give a pure, honest, unbiased answer. Right now I feel like Tetsujin 28. I like Black Ox too – I can definitely say Tetsujin 28 isn’t my usual favorite as I’m very influenced by my feed.
WAKABAYASHI: What about you two? What’s your favorite?
Tom: Oh boy. Probably Gundam Mk. II.
WAKABAYASHI: Which one? AEUG or Titans?
Tom: AEUG colors.
Patrick: What? No! Titans colors
<Everyone Laughs>
Patrick: My answer is super-basic, but it’s always Optimus Prime. I have about fifty Optimus figures.
WAKABAYASHI: I’m not too far behind with my own Optimus count.
Patrick: Who in the office has the most Transformers?
WAKABAYASHI: It’s either me or [Akira] Amemiya, the director of Gridman. It’s a close call. We’d have to actually count them up.
Patrick: Thank you all for taking the time to speak with us today and we hope you find some cool toys this weekend.
Thank you for reading and stay tuned for our discussion of PROMARE coming soon!

RX-178 Gundam Mk-II
Tumblr media
---------------Gundam Mk-II (Titans colors)--------------
Tumblr media
---------------Gundam Mk-II (AEUG colors)--------------
Origin: Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam
Timeline: Universal Century (U.C.)
Unit Type: Prototype General-Purpose Mobile Suit
Pilot(s): Limited-Production; Most notable pilots include Kamille Bidan and Emma Sheen
Developer: Titans
Operator: Titans, Earth Federation Forces, Anti-Earth Union Group
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TECHNOLOGY AND DEVELOPMENT
A successor to the famous RX-78-2, the Mk-II was developed by the Titans in December of U.C. 0086 and was the first mobile suit to use the new movable frame concept. In it, the movable frame incorporates all the mobile suit's vital mechanisms excluding the weapons, armor and propellant tanks. This approach drastically improves on the suit's responsiveness, reliability, agility and energy efficiency,
The movable parts of the legs on the Mk-II were exposed, based on the prevailing design idea that avoiding being hit is more important than mitigating damage once hit. This stems from the fact that no existing armor could fully protect against beam weaponry, so its better to increase the suit's mobility through weight reduction rather than equip more armor onto it.
It also featured the 360-degree panoramic screen and linear seat cockpit that would become standard in Universal Century mobile suits. Meant to eliminate blind spots, provide the pilot a larger field of view and protect them from G-forces and impact shocks, the cockpit could also double as an escape pod, able to be ejected from the suit if needed.
The most major flaw of the Mk-II was its armor material; it used the by-then obsolete titanium alloy ceramic composite, instead of the significantly stronger luna titanium of its predecessor. This also caused rigidity issues in the frame's leg sections, a problem that persisted even after six design revisions. Despite all of that, the Mk-II was one of the most agile mobile suits available in its hayday, albeit for a short time.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
EQUIPMENT
Its weaponry remained mostly the same as its predecessor, wielding a pair of beam sabers for close combat stored on the backpack, a beam rifle as its main ranged weapon, a hyper bazooka for heavy firepower, and a physical shield. It didn't have the head-mounted vulcan guns of its predecessor, though it could be outfitted with an external vulcan pod. It also used a clay bazooka, a weapon designed to fire adhesive rounds meant to immobilize enemy machines, though it could be loaded with different types of ammunition, including conventional explosive shells.
The Mk-II also had its very own support vehicle called the Flight Armor. A sub-flight system developed by Anaheim Electronics for the Anti-Earth Union Group, it was designed to protect the Mk-II during atmospheric entry while also serving as a regular SFS within the atmosphere.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HISTORY
There were three total Mk-II units developed by the Titans at the start of the Gryps Conflict. Char Aznable (under the Quattro Bajeena persona) got word of the three prototype units, and led a team with the goal of infiltrating the colony in which they were being kept and stealing them. The plan proved successful thanks to the help of Kamille Bidan, who took one of the suits. In the end, all three were stolen from the Titans and used by the AEUG from then on.
Two of them were sent to Anaheim Electronics to be dismantled and studied, and the last one was kept in service and repainted in a navy blue-on-white color scheme. The Mk-II was eventually outclassed by the Titans' new transformable mobile suits, but it still participated in many of the AEUG's most important missions.
To try and bring the Mk-II up to current standards, the AEUG commissioned Anaheim Electronics to build a new support craft for the Mk-II, the FXA-05D G-Defenser. It could dock with the Mk-II to create the RX-178+FXA-05D Super Gundam, which had superior speed, mobility and firepower. This didn't address anything in the end, as the Mk-II still suffered in performance compared to the latest Titans mobile suits near the end of the Gryps War.

During the First Neo Zeon War, the Mk-II was once again called to action against Neo Zeon. It wasn't officially designated a pilot and it was unable to become the Super Gundam due to the G-Defensor being destroyed during the Gryps Conflict. At the end of the First Neo Zeon War, the Mk-II was severely damaged and abandoned. Its said the suit was recovered and repaired, but ultimately retired from service after the AEUG was re-absorbed into the Earth Federation, being put into storage alongside the MSZ-006 Zeta Gundam.

LEGACY
A Full Armor pack was proposed as an upgrade for the Mk-II, where it would have been known as the FA-178 Full Armor Gundam Mk-II. This never came to be, as the FXA-05D G-Defenser was perceived to be more well rounded and not as heavy on the Mk-II, thus the Full Armor pack was never used.

The Mk-II lead to a list of several different mobile suits, most notably the titular Zeta Gundam and the MSF-007 Gundam Mk-III featured in the Zeta Gundam Mobile Suit Variations design series.

Personal Opinion Its really clean, I dig it. I think I prefer the Titans colors just a little bit more, but the AEUG version looks really good in motion too.

Quantum Gundam [Test-Type]                                         RX-86R-Q
The Quantum Gundam Test-Type was built by the Titans Test Team using data from the Gundam Mk-II and the GM III. The mobile suit has a prototype psycho frame which gave it more mobility and made it better at close range combat.
Armaments
2x 60mm Vulcan Guns in head (Based on RX-79 [G] Ez-SR1 Gundam Ez-SR Intruders′s Vulcan Guns.)
2x Prototype Vulcan Beam Guns above chest vents
2x XB-G-1150L Beam Sabers (Improved version of the Titans Gundam Mk-II’s beam sabers.)
1x Machine Gun (Based on the RGM-237C Powered GM Cardigan’s Beam Machine Gun.)
1x Shield (Based on the RCX-76-02 Guncannon First Type’s shield.)
It first saw deployment in Australia, in Torrington Base. The mobile suit was painted in colors based on the Powered GM’s so that it would be more recognizable as a Earth Federation test-type. While the suit was mostly being tested it did see combat a few times against Karaba spies. But, the AEUG and Karaba quickly recognized the Gundam’s potential as a mid-range fighter that could lead to advancements in psycho-frame technology as well as slow down the Titans. They quickly mounted an attack and stole the mobile suit for themselves.
