uh uh hi signalis fandom??? i bring you... a storch and kolibri pairing...
Tumblr media
my sweethearts <3 some infodumping about them below:
they are both stationed in a correctional facility on Rotfront. Maus is the commanding officer of the base (aside from the Falke and Adler units of course) and Rin acts as her right-hand woman pretty much. Maus denies it but Rin definitely gets some special treatment and/or exceptions which does piss off the other Storchs but uh we don't have to worry about that right now :3 as the blurbs next to them state, they each have their own manufacturing issues but one is certainly a lot more severe than the other... ill start with Rin: Her heating system is defective, as in it doesn't work at all. Especially unhelpful considering they're on Rotfront, yknow, the ice moon?? She still manages to keep her productivity at an all-time high though, despite her defect. On more than one occaision, she's gotten a warning from Adler about her water usage, since she takes so many boiling hot showers to warm up... Being a Storch she's unsurprisingly quite short-tempered and has noticable violent tendancies that probably could be better reigned in but Maus is into it so Rin gets a pass to be mean. "Interrogations" with Gestalts involving Rin as the punisher more often than not end in a bloodbath. And Rin snagging a couple of new shiny trinkets to keep for herself or share between her and Rin (maybe the other Protektor units if she's feeling generous.) She tends to get quite protective over Maus, and when the two can find a quiet moment alone together, Rin has a bit of a soft spot for her little rodent <3 now, Maus: Her Bioresenance module is defective, as in Maus can't really "regulate" the intensity of it properly. Its way too strong for any normal Kolibri unit, let alone an entire group of them at once, so Maus has intentionally cut herself off from the hive-mind in an effort to protect her fellow hummingbirds. She still works with them and communicates with them of course, she just refuses to do it through bioresenance. Does this mean more paperwork? Yes... but she thinks the tradeoff is worth it. It does have its downsides though. Without the safety net the hivemind provides to her persona, Maus has already begun to degrade in irreversable ways (no matter how many pots of tea she downs or books she finishes a day) Despite this she remains dedicated and loyal to her work, if not for herself then so she doesn't everyone else around her down. (also, after some vauge threats of decomission from Adler, she's only thrown herself further into her work to try and convince him she doesn't need replacing. Maus isn't scared of many things, but if theres one thing she's terrified of, its death.) She suffers a lot from migranes and nosebleeds a lot as a side effect of her faulty bioresenance module, and has landed herself in the facility's medical ward too many times to count because of it. the Eule nurses have even dedicated an entire room solely to Maus due to how often she's in there for Something, be it a headache, or fainting entirely while on the job. If it weren't for Falke, Adler would have had her decomissioned many cycles ago. Falke however trusts her charm of hummingbirds implicitly and keeps a close eye on Maus especially, making sure she doesn't stray too far off the deep end. Maus also has violent tendancies of her own, and works well with Rin because of it. Rin interrogating Gestalts is bad enough, but Rin AND Maus together? yeah that Gestalt isn't coming out of that room alive. or in one piece for that matter.. Maus and Rin sorta bounce off eachother in ways that i don't think are entirely healthy but hey, they're happy, so who am i to get in the way of two lesbian robot's toxic bloodbath yuri :3

KSAR, Kasuar, the fanatic ground infantry of the Eusan Nation.
Tumblr media
Under the cut is two pages of lore!
KSAR  (Kampf-schlicht-angriff-replika) “Kasuar”
(Combat-simple-attack-replica) “Cassowary”
Light infantry units, 180 centimeters tall. Kasuars,  Kampf-schlicht-angriff-replikas, (Combat-Simple-Attack-Replicas) or KSAR units, are light infantry used mainly on frontal ground attacks. Kasuars possess a combat-capable persona that is easy to manage with melee weapons such as axes, swords, and clubs as fetish obkects. In most situations, Kasuars are composed and easy to manage, although they will display extremely violent tendencies in battle. Composed should not be confused with either relaxed or quiet. Originally manufactured to be a light infantry to support other combatants, Kasuars are so very front-facing and violent that they quickly adopted the main role in frontal attacks. Kasuars especially excel in siege and trench warfare, and seem to experience a sort of thrill upon breaching an area.
The gestalt Neural template of Kasuar units was a soldier stationed on Heimat, who before her compulsory military service, was a religious zealot of a religion banned by both the empire and the nation. The original fanaticism of the gestalt is now directed into the near-religious bloodlust and patriotism that makes them so useful in battle. Kasuars will let off this energy in the form of wrestling with one another when not in combat, often sustaining injuries in the practice. Kasuars will imprint on either STCR or STAR units, sometimes both, admiring them for their prowess in hand-to-hand combat. It is not unknown for Kasuars to become romantically attracted to their protektor compatriots.
Generally, Kasuar naming conventions follow that of bugs and medieval gear, such as “Mantis” and “Stahl.”.
When boots are unavailable Kasuars will insulate their legs’ armor shells with tape and thick mud in trenches to prevent sickness and disease.
They will do the same to the ventilation holes in their stahlhelms in cold environments. SAPR units  are generally regarded as parental units to Kasuars, admired for their supporting anti-tank role, and their motherlike personality not dissimilar to a Mynah’s that will quickly put them at ease. Kasuars will typically display calmer personalities around SchnĂ€pper units, if only because they feel safer. Kasuars are also generally very fond of medical units such as Eules, and will go out of their way to protect said units in combat.
Kasuars have a strong group culture akin to Starlings, displaying similar activities such as wrestling and sharing weapon-care products, though they strongly loathe physical punishment, even among themselves. If a superior attempts to administer corporal punishment, they will often find themselves on the bad side of numerous angry and aggressive Kasuars. Although cases are somewhat rare, some units who Kasuars are especially fond of, i.e, medical Eules, can be allowed into their cadre. Some Eules report that Kasuars are surprisingly gentle with less rowdy units, and will allow them to decorate or style their hair, which is longer than most replikas and kept in a ponytail. Kasuars enjoy decorating their weapons and stations with flower petals, and are fond of Ara units who help them grow or find plants for the endeavor. Kasuars will dig large indents for Aras who frequently aid Kasuars to make them more comfortable. Kasuars carry medieval melee weapons such as swords, axes, clubs, and sometimes spears or pikes. The fighting style of Kasuars is simple and extremely aggressive. They will take cover as needed and will maintain an offense, storming trenches and fortifications akin to wild dogs upon prey, viciously maiming enemies unless told specifically to take prisoners. Disarmed kasuars will use whatever they have on hand as a weapon, sometimes taking form in decapitated limbs of enemies, which. after battle, they will take the bones of which and carve into totems. Technically, these totems are contraband. However, it is seldom recommended to confiscate the morbid carvings.
Kasuars are a superstitious bunch, and after carving small totems from either bone or wood, will tie them with string into bracelets, necklaces, or around the waist, which they then believe will grant blessings. Common totems include totems of courage, rage, strength, patience, undying, love, and fearlessness. Kasuars will often gift totems to friends or lovers outside the cadre.
One can grow close to a Kasuar unit by catching them sharpening their weapon, when they are at their calmest, and initiating conversation. Kasuars are flexible and enjoy speaking of nearly any topic. However, it is deeply forbidden to converse about any religion with a kasuar. One can also grow close by gifting a weapon to a Kasuar. Generally, the more elaborate a weapon is, the better. Never give a Kasuar a dagger. For reasons unknown, Kasuars view daggers akin to wedding rings, as awkwardly learned by well-meaning if oblivious allies, and it is never recommended to gift a dagger unless one is willing to reciprocate.
Degraded Kasuars are angry, paranoid, and difficult to control. They will first cry for hours before reverting to a state of rage-induced violence towards both allies and enemies, what ÆON psychologists call ‘wutblindiet’,  which causes seeing all people as a threat. This stage is untreatable but temporary. Once the state passes, it is recommended to decommission the degraded Kasuar. Other practices by degraded Kasuars include carving odd symbols into one’s own flesh and armor, drinking oxidant, usually their own, and self-harm. The best strategy to decommission a Kasuar is by sending one on a task with an abysmal survival rate.
Outside of degradation, Kasuars who face either heavy losses or endure an overly traumatizing experience will hide in small concaves, and will either cry or go completely silent. Their combat-capable personas limit such incidents and combat fatigue, though such cases exist. The most effective way to calm them down is to have a respected Starling, Storch, or SchnÀpper talk to them.
For reasons unknown to ÆON psychologists, Kasuars have a deep fondness of animals, especially horses and canines. It’s not uncommon for Kasuars to befriend the wild hounds in the area. They also have an odd love of insectoids and arachnids, often carrying centipedes and large spiders on their person, even with them into battle. Kasuars will often allow their bug pets to create burrows or other habitats onto vehicles and trenches. Kasuars are fearless at the worst of times, or at least are so adept at working through fear that the line between brave and fearless is blurred. When presented with a seemingly insurmountable enemy or unbreachable fortification, kasuars attain a certain adrenaline thrill through charging said tasks.
Although fearless, Kasuars will display uncharacteristic and deep fear and agitation around FLKR units, and will resort to rubbing the neck and forearms, as if checking for wounds. It is speculated but technically unknown that the voicebox module of Falke units resemble the mother of the kasuar gestalt neural template, who has a civil record of domestic violence and abuse. If a Falke harshly reprimands a kasuar, the latter will retreat to tents or trenches, where they can be heard crying and pleading for either safety or to be kept away from ‘her’, presumably the falke unit. Physical touch, even gently, from a Falke unit will quickly and suddenly agitate a Kasuar, causing them to freeze up.They can be calmed down by respected STCR, STAR, and SAPR units.
On paper, Kasuars are easy to manage so long as they are given time to care for their weapons. However, Kasuars also have a subconscious need for approval from respected figures, constantly seeking to be loved or cared for. Once they find such a figure, they will remain physically close, attempting to stay in the same general area, as if either consciously or subconsciously seeking physical protection from an unknown force.
Kasuars, although fearless and difficult to stress, Kasuars have an underlying and intrinsic paranoia. They will keep watch on all exits in an area, keep their backs to walls, rarely doors or open areas, will check for odd sounds, and refuse to sleep without someone keeping watch. They often listen for footsteps, even outside of combat, and if a Falke unit is present, will keep tabs on her location at all times, keeping distance.
please love her

Friendly reminder to stay hydrated and also hug the dog for me. also also tell me a random thing about a random oc. Off the tippy top of your artlibri head.
HI JAY DW I AM STAYING HYDRATED!!! I actually have been trying out a cute lil self care app to help me out w that 😌
Also I can’t hug him right now because I’m in bed but rest assured the Thango received many nighttime pats
Tumblr media
Also random OC!!! I’m picking my star Schrott bc I was thinking about her earlier today (I reallyyy need to keep making my oc intro posts 😭). I was listening to Zombie by the Cranberries and realized it was perfect for Schrott! It actually helped me finalize her background before her assignment to the VDF and later her mentorship of storchie Hollenhund there. Schrott’s old as hell and she fought in the Vinetan war. That’s where she lost her star cadre, I like to think that they were a very tight knit group. She misses them so so much and it really fucked her up since she was the sole survivor. After the war she was transferred to Heimat and got a pretty quiet protektor job of some sort, but she was finally sent to the VDF due to her constant fighting (both physical and verbal) with fellow protektors and others. She’s a horrible horrible old woman but she’s also hurting deeply <333

Hey guys, did you know that in terms of male gestalt and female replika breeding, kolibri is the most compatible replika for gestalts? Not only are they in the protektor group, which is mostly comprised of combat replikas, kolibris are an average of 4'11 tall and 120 pounds, this means they’re large enough to be able handle human dongs, and with their impressive Base Stats for HP, Biomechanical with Polyethylene Shell and Bullet-Resistant Armor Plating, you can be rough with one. Due to their mostly biomechanical biology, there’s no doubt in my mind that an aroused kolibri would be incredibly wet, so wet that you could easily have sex with one for hours without getting sore. they could amp up the pleasure part of your brain and make you feel 2 million times the sensation, so it’d be incredibly easy for one to get you in the mood. With their equipments repair spray and autoinjector, they can easily recover from fatigue. No other replika comes close to this level of compatibility. Also, fun fact, if you rizz one enough, you can make them your mind controlling yandere gf. kolibri is literally built for human dong. Ungodly defense stat+high HP pool+Acid Armor means it can take dongs all day, all shapes and sizes and still come for more.

I realized I never explained how they're personality wise.
Due to the nature of their job it's common for others to avoid them because a) the whole "dealing with dead bodies" thing and b) while on duty they stink of cleaning chemicals. Because of that, Rabengeiers aren't used to social interaction outside their own groups, but still do their best to deal with others in a professional manner.
RBGR units tend to be what people call "NPCish", in the sense that they don't really interact with others outside their cadre or close friend group, unless the other person approaches them first. In that same sense, they enjoy hanging out and participating in group activities with others, but first they have to be explicitly told they can participate in order for them to join.
Bonded pairs aren't exclusive to other Rabengeiers or Eules, but they're the most common pairings since Rabengeiers rarely get the chance to interact with other units and they feel intimidated by protektors. In a relationship (both platonic and romantic) they're the type to remind their other one how much they appreciate them, in a "Oh wow, I can't believe you're with me right now. Who knows what the future has prepared, but I'm so happy you're with me right now please don't die, I'll be very sad if you die" kind of way. On the contrary, with people they dislike they will make excuses to not be around them or behave in a passive-agressive way.
Random extra tibits that I don't know how to bring up in a smooth way:
They're actually really chill about the concept of death ("Well, yeah. We're all going to die someday đŸ€·"). What some find slighly disturbing is the conditions in which some of these deaths happen (a corpse that has been rotting for a week before being discovered or a political figure that coincidentially commited suicide the day after disrespecting the Great Revolutionary. Both different types of messed up scenarios that they prefer not to think so hard about).
They never talk to others outside their cadre about work. Nobody in their sane judgement would want to hear about cluttered homes, decomposing bodies, maggots and the like. All that information goes into their diaries.
In a modern AU they would love Powerwash Simulator.
Tumblr media
i finally sat down and drew one of the original replika concepts I've had for a while. Behold, biohazard cleaners that need a bestie in order to stay stabilized.
I still need to figure how I'm going to match the German acronym with the name and fix the wording, but here's the general idea.

Addendum!!
I reflected on the last part. If we are to go ahead with the games’ themes/thesis, the discussion of Replicant vs. Human is ultimately quite minor in the grander scheme of things. I don't see a bigger purpose of emphasizing that point of contention. It's only a vehicle to drive the main point further. If I remember correctly, Detroit Become Human spends most of its narrative exploring this conflict.
Signalis shows (and doesn’t tell) how humans also suffer under the tyrannical reign of the Eusan Imperial State and Nation: The horrible working conditions and cramped bunks in Sierpinski-23, the authoritative Protektor units overseeing Rotfront, Ariane’s sense of self being beaten out of her in the military, so on and so forth. The point is that, at heart, it isn't a Replika vs Human conflict; it's about the consequences of living under a fascist government.
I feel that this point could’ve been explored more in DBH. Over the course of the game, Markus and Kara face bigotry from individuals. If the narrative is supposed to be a critique/allegory for systematic oppression of marginalised groups, why isn’t the system put under more scrutiny? Why portray the current government as an entity that needs romantic gestures to be placated? We all know that isn’t true.
"Markus, you have to be peaceful to convince them that we're human! Sing and kiss in front of the police so they know we’re not a threat!"
This is what I dislike about DBH’s narrative I think. It doesn't quite land its critique, rather, it upholds the status quo in some ways.
Why would those companies make androids in the first place? The government in Signalis & DBH sees human capital are just as expendable as machine lifeforms. Humans suffer.
Cognizant androids, which I believe ARE humans because they are simply copies of us, suffer as well. Androids, Replikas, what have you, are a reflection of us, of the human condition.
Thoughts on How Signalis and Detroit Become Human Tackle Similar Themes
Funnily enough, I think Signalis answers the philosophical questions Detroit Become Human failed to effectively address, through unconventional and cryptic, yet masterful storytelling. Signalis does so in under 15 hours, while DBH takes over 100 GB in my hard drive and 3 concurring plotlines. The two devs behind Signalis make you work to connect the dots and form your own interpretation (...which they claim all of your ideas are most likely canon, due to the nature of Bioresonance!). On the other hand, DBH TELLS the player of its vision, and of its meaning. In other words, David Cage's writing has the subtlety of a pie hitting your face. Both games discuss:
The whole moral debate of whether or not cognizant machines/replikas should be classified as human, and should they receive basic human rights. You could argue that Replikas in Signalis are essentially human, because they are neural network copies of existing humans.
The critique of an oppressive (fascist) system/state that only benefits from the suffering of both human and machine.
The suffering of Replikas (and Gestalts) in the world of Signalis is painfully palpable. It doesn’t jump out at you at first, no, because you’re focused on finding your missing pilot. As you explore the derelict Sierpinski-23 though, you see the Nation’s propaganda posters, come across administrative files detailing the censorship of certain words due to it being “an obscenity to the state”, and learn about the poor fates of Gestalts who dare to try to break out of the Nation’s oppressive regime. You slowly come to realise that this minuscule space orbital station is where the Nation sends its undesirables to rot and perish. Both Gestalt and Replika, punished by its authoritative surveillance state for simply existing.
As your exploration of the graveyard space station comes to a close, you, or Elster rather, finds her way into the mines deep underground. You encounter a heavily injured MYNAH, who expresses her melancholy about the reality that she will be replaced, after she ceases to function.
“Don’t worry about repairing an old unit like me. There are many replacements. In the end, what’s one drop to an ocean? [...] Thank you for talking with me.”
In the next room, a dying STAR whispers consoling words to her loved one, an EULE, who can’t seem to hear beyond her sobs of anguish. They’re surrounded by lifeless Replika shells.
The character you play as, Elster, god knows which iteration by now (it has been over hundreds of years since the Penrose-512 started its mission), encounters her lifeless bodies throughout the game. Those who failed, those who were replaced. The original human she was based on, a Vinetan soldier, was scrubbed away of her existence in the Nation’s records. Classified documents referring to her units as ‘it’.
Don’t let it watch films or listen to music. Persona degradation will make it less effective. Decommission is due if it starts to degrade.
My point being, Signalis’ storytelling successfully managed to move me and convinced me of the characters’ suffering (due to the state) more than DBH ever did. I think it’s why I enjoyed Connor’s storyline more than the other two. Based on the ‘best ending’, Connor realises his personhood, teams up with Hank and defies Cyberlife. It feels
 believable. Painfully human.
Kara & Markus’ stories had its powerful moments, of course, but I feel that they’re quite shallow. I honestly don’t know why I think so! Maybe they are unintentionally written more to be caricatures of a cause, instead of fleshed-out characters. It’s been a while since I played DBH, so I need to revisit that to strengthen my point.
More thoughts I wasn't able to fit in the... word salad? lol
Despite David Cage claiming that he is making movies instead of games, I strongly feel that Signalis is so much more cinematic than its counterpart. It wears its visual influences on its sleeves (Evangelion, Blame!, Böcklin, Ghost in Shell, ResEvil, and so forth.)
I love both games' UI design though. So beautiful.
If Mr. Cage didn't take himself so seriously (and if he was less of an asshole) I would be more lenient on DBH. It's ultimately a cis white guy trying to write about oppression.
DBH is a fun game! I enjoyed playing it. The story fell flat for me though.

Heoooo read through ur kasuars posts again and i know its been said before but i love ur goobers so much.theyre rent free in my head imagining them living together in a cadre and just doing mundane stuff. I dont have anythin specific to ask but if u wanna yap in any capacity take this as the opportunity :p
THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUUU YOU REALLY DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH THAT MEANS
Tumblr media
I was gonna make a comic but I don't have the time and I DO wanna not leave the ask just sitting there fore a week+ so here's an old Eddie study on anatomy that I intended to scrap. It's old and rough and I changed my artstyle for the 124th time since but here anyway-
Tumblr media
It's not perfect and I'm coming with newer (better) Eddie content trust (actually there's a WIP right now trust me)
ANNND Eddie yap!
I think I've been neglecting Eddie and that makes sense since she's the wallflower of the group but I love her so much. Random facts about her, this one I did mention that she hangs out with Protektor Starlings and Storches and a couple wanna smooch, and she's completely oblivious? Well, that's cause Edward is very charming and HOT. As in Millie is cute hot and Cricket is boogeyman hot- Edward is hot hot. Especially when she actually shows her face.
She's also a really good listener in general cause she's so quiet. She's always the first to check in on Cricket whenever she's too nervous to sleep, and lets people ramble on to her and actually listens to them. She's pretty expressively passive too, like cricket but just in a 'Well I don't have much to say' instead of 'entity haunting us' passive.
So she's just pretty calm. After she got her sword she started training with Eiche, and though they use very fundamentally different swords it works out somehow. She has a thing for reading, and ends up borrowing books from the Storches (who are very happy to lend her one) and if she could leave the war she'd start a bookstore.
Like Eiche, she's painfully aware of the reality of the war and her status as a soldier-slave. Eddie knows that the Nation is a heartless entity, especially to the scared imperial citizens she deals with after capturing one town or another. She knows she's a slave of the nation and there's nothing to do about it. She's going to work and fight for a nation that will replace her in a day after she dies a horrible painful death and she's come to terms with it. She believes that as bad as the nation is, she's fighting for a sense of peace, that though under the ruthless fist of the nation, is better than living in fear of bombings and war. She doesn't know what will happen to her after the war is over, (what will happen to the frontline soldiers if there's no front?) and refuses to think about it.
