Today began with another train ride on the greenline, followed by a lovely walk through the park and past the state house to arrive at DCAMM. Today we began our day by meeting with the accessibility division of DCAMM. Here we learned about the MAAB and ADA which are regulations for buildings to ensure accessibility. Often in the past disabled people were not accounted for and thus the accessibility division of DCAMM are trying to increase regulation of new building and continue the renovation of older buildings.

From the office we then departed for the Shattock Hospital which is being newly renovated to replaced its predecessor and namesake. Once on site we got an in depth introduction to the story behind the building which took many years to get to the point of construction and is one of DCAMM's largest project to date. We went down through the muddy construction site into the basement then took the elevator up to their on site DCAMM HQ. There we got to speak with one of their on site architects and their PM about the buildings design down to the hinges on the doors. We looked over the plans they had hanging on the walls and then began our tour. We got to see a completely gutted floor and one with walls still intact, then onto the mock up on the roof. The whole experience was fascinating, to get a glance into the design of hospitals-- especially on a state level.

Then after a brief lunch break and a car ride out to Framingham we arrived at the new Mass Bay Community College building. This building will accommodate a spectrum of health care training facilities including mock nursing and EMT simulation classrooms. A new building, the exterior is beautifully modern with an art installation and many big windows. The interior was beginning to take shape as we got to see freshly plastered classrooms, offices and finally the roof. You could tell how much time was put into the process of designing this building.

Then back to the greenline and safely home! Another great day at DCAMM!

The program Fighting sectarianism and striving for a secular Lebanon is the theme told through ur stories. The program opens with me entering a store where Ana w Shadi is playing and i reflect on the idea of Shadi coming back one day. Who will he be in the Lebanon of today. Ur stories then start to unfold one after another. Each and everyone of you opens a door to the story that follows. First out is Nada El-Kurdi (34) on a running track. Nada finds difficult the Lebanese ”drawers” prejudice, i.e. when ppl ask where one comes from and what religion they have. She understands that war has left its scars but yet believes that the Lebanese should put more effort so that they themselves can bridge divisions. Nada’s mentioning of the war leads to Aya Chamseddine’s story. Scene by Mathaf, a war greenline. The war ended before Aya (24) was born but she has memories from the 30-day war in 2006- not of destruction but rather from a couple of years later when fellow school students did not even know there has been a war in 2006. People in Lebanon live in a state of denial and do not even want to know about their history with war. Aya leads to the next story, one of Assaad Chaftari (63), one who decided not to shy away from his history. He now faces it along with 5 other ”enemies of the past”. Assaad was a powerful miltia man actively taking part in the destruction of the country. After publically apologizing to the Lebanese people, he now actively takes part in rebuilding the society by influencing the younger generation telling them to be in charge of their future in rebuilding Lebanon After Assaad comes the story of tv-producer and satarist Salam Zaatari, scene at his ”creative space”. He wants to influence Lebanese, especially the younger generation, through media. Salam (38) believes a new medium is needed, one that offers good content of infortainment and education and reaches out to everyone. This would help bring closer the divided sectarian groups, and maybe help elect a new political cadre that can fix the country. Salam leads to Mark Daou (39) at a university campus where he gives lectures. Mark ran on secular agenda in the May elections. His vision is that of a new political secular generation that will seize power in the country. It will take time but it will happen Seizing power in the country leads back to Aya Chamseddine who was looking forward to election day. Change was in sight and Aya was ”naiivly hopeful” as she put faith in the young generation and also her friends. But as soon as the hate speech started to surface, people became more afraid of the other ”even my friends changed their minds” and the rest is history. Aya’s first ever election ended in disappointment. The circle is complete when Aya gets to give an answer to my reflection on Shadi ”he will have a hard time fitting in in this Lebanon after being disconnected for such a long time. Probably traumatised, but he might be someone looking to change.”

Personal Story, But It's Funny So...

ALRIGHT FRIENDS LET ME TELL YOU A STORY ABOUT THE FIRST TIME I CAME HOME FROM COLLEGE.

So, the adventure began with me waking up approximately 2 hours after I went to sleep, but still almost a full hour after I wanted to wake up.

Why was I up past 4 am on the day I was supposed to be up by 6? Insomnia and winter break dorm expectations.

Anyway! About, I dunno, 5 seconds after I realized what time it was my FHE mom/ ride to the train station texted me asking if I was ready to go. Failure to respond in a cool, put together way would be admitting defeat. Period.

"Yeah man, I'm just putting on my shoes."

Nailed it.

Only problem? I was in my pajamas and still under the covers of a bed I would have to make before I left, and she lives two doors down from me.

So one flash of toothpaste and black skinny jeans later, she nocked on the door and I tripped over ALL 3 of my bags to answer it, looking like hot mess central, but still refusing to admit defeat and bow to my obvious need for a better sleeping schedule as she helped me with my bags and dropped me off at the train station.

Because I am afraid of new things and needed a charger, I decided to take a seat at a table with an outlet on the upper part of the train (the only place I've ever sat). I only had a small suitcase, my backpack, and my alto saxophone, but that was enough for me to take up two seats and most of the legroom for the table all the way up to my stop an hour away.

I occupied myself with a book my friend lent me, because of course, my head phones went missing two days before my masterful departure for home.

Now about two stops in another girl sits next to me and asks for advice on how to get to her desired destination to meet her sister. And I, with my two trips to Salt Lake on the train prior to this one, expertly and with great knowledge instructed her to get off at a station I've never gotten off at and take the TRAX line I'd never been on. But the wonder of the internet backed me up. I don't know if she got there, but I double checked the map twice after telling her what to do.

Finally my stop arrives! And after wrestling my bags out from under the table, totally sure that this is where I had to go...

...my graceful self fell down the stairs.

And this wasn't just a simple little stumble that happens when someone misses one step. This was the catastrophic, slow-motion worthy, life-alert comercial style, human avalanche down the stairs that happens when you miss upwards of FIVE STEPS (exact count unavaliable at this time).

I hit the ground landing on my left knee, and with everyone staring at me, some asking if I was okay, I proclaimed "Don't worry, the ground broke my fall!" And proceeded to hobble away from my shame quickly with the one shred of dignity I had left. The pain in my leg didn't let me get far before I was silently cursing outside the door of the train trying to regain my bearings. A kind woman, the one who one of my bags landed on when I fell down the stairs, told me my glasses were on the back of my head and offered to help me with anything. But, still embarrassed and in complete denial, I quickly thanked her, told her I was fine, and said to have a merry Christmas while I stood there on one foot like some kind of urban flamingo.

Then, the adrenaline brought on from the prospect of missing my plane got me to ignore my problem, hobble up the escalator, and jump on the greenline TRAX to the airport. I avoided the stairs.

Now two of the guys must have seen me fall on the train. Because they were watching me with a look of pity and concern, and both reached out to catch me when the trolley suddenly moved and I looked as if I may fall. Luckily I caught myself.

But fear not! For I did make it to the airport! And while waiting in line for security, I was blessed with the presence of a fun TSA man, a nice guy and his beautiful big dog, and one of the most adorable old men I've ever seen in my life waiting for his wife in a wheelchair to get through the check.

Shortly later, I went to the bathroom to pee and check out my leg, which had a chunk taken out of it and a large bruise developing on my knee. So, with no direct threat to my life I elected to ignore it. I am home now. And my leg hurts, but it's all good and I'm sure I'll be fine!

WIP: Braids in his Hair (working title)

"Hello, Jheon," Lorelai said. She kept her voice even and calm, as she let go of Omjhi and took a step forward. "They brought me to see you."

Her first good look at Jheon caused her to suck her breath in. His eye was swollen shut, and he was favoring his right hand and holding the blaster strangely to compensate for it. Jheon was holding himself oddly, though Lorelai doubted anyone else would notice. Not unless they knew the way Jheon normally held himself.

"Lorelai?" Some of the glazed look left his eyes. It spoke of how much Jheon had to be hurting that the blaster shook slightly in his grasp. "They wouldn't let me see you."

"I am really sorry about this. Please stay calm," Omjhi said in the same soft, slightly hesitant sounding voice he'd used before. His hand though was suddenly like iron around her arm though, and his body was warm as it pressed against her back. Well. That's what she got for underestimating someone. Of course they wouldn't send anyone but a fighter to do this. The blaster barely touched her ribs.

"Let Keshel go," Omjhi's said. His voice didn't shake at all, and was only slightly louder for Jheon's benefit. It held a note of authority that it had lacked before. Jheon didn't move though. Instead, his gaze flickered to her. A question.

"Mihel, if you would be so kind as to release him," Lorelai said. She kept her voice even. "I already hurt. I should be in bed."

WIP: In the Garden

“And one magic apple is not enough?” Koth said. He rolled over to his side, changing positions so that his belly was exposed. Some dragons had a vulnerable spot on their bellies, but Koth's was all scales. He stared up at the blue sky above him. "Magic used for evil purposes tends to fade quicker than any other sort of magic."

"I don't know what you mean," Taras said. His tone was flat though. Koth had guessed right. He hissed a bit and a few of the rose leaves withered.

"It's never a good idea to get mixed up with evil, especially evil magic." Koth rolled back over to meet the firebird's eyes. They burned with blue fire down at him. "No good can come of it. Someone who starts doing evil will only continue to do evil. They cannot be trusted to uphold their end of any deal."

"I don't see why it concerns you." Taras shifted back and forth. Petals fluttered to the ground around Koth, turning brown where they touched his scales. "I am bound. I will retrieve the apples for my master until you stop me. There is no other way."

"There is always another way," Koth said. He slid through the grass, crouched belly low. Taras watched him, poised for flight, and seemingly confused as Koth moved away from him. Koth went towards the apple tree, reared back until he was balanced on his back legs, and carefully plucked an apple from the tree. Then he returned to his place beneath the arbor. "Take this.” Koth offered up the apple in his claws to the firebird.

“Why?”

“Because I am not your enemy,” Koth replied. His breath plumed in the air. “We may be at odds, but I bear you no ill will.”

In a bright flash of light, Taras dove forward. He snatched the apple out of Koth’s claws. Koth had barely had time to process that the apple was gone, before Taras was back over the wall and gone.

WIP: Brass Gears (aka the goblin steampunk story

"What are the flowers on your waistcoat?"Greenlin asked when he couldn't stand the quiet any longer. He could have bitten his tongue. Damn it. There was no reason for him to have asked that.

"This?" Varrin seemed pleased that Greenlin had noticed his waist coat. "Speedwell and ivy is the decoration. It means friendship and fidelity."

"Neither of which you offer," Greenlin snapped back. He practically threw the brass candlestick into a crate full of other brass objects.

"Not true, not true," Varrin replied. He leaned his elbow on the table, and put his face in his hand. "I have much friendship to offer you. So much so that I have returned to you not once, not twice, but five times since our first meeting to commission various projects from you."

It was the truth. A hard, painful truth. Varrin only came to visit when he wanted something from Greenlin. There would be weeks, and on one complicated project, months of designs, meetings, and revisions. Then the item would be done, and Varrin would be gone until he needed something else. Leaving Greenlin alone and cursing himself for having a crush on someone who barely noticed him.

He was a fool. Such a fool.

"I notice fidelity was not included in that statement of things you have to offer." Greenlin needed to keep reminding himself of that. Not that it mattered. There was never going to be anything between them anyway. He put the crate back in its place.

"For the right person perhaps. Until then why deprive so many of my charms?" Varrin's smile was so smug. It should have been annoying. Greenlin scowled at the pulse of fondness that echoed through him. That was not the reaction he should have to those words.

To cover his reaction, Greenlin wandered back over to his work bench and pulled his goggles over his eyes. He pretended to make some notes in his ledger. Really he was just trying to look busy so he didn't get caught staring at Varrin like the love sick fool he was.

"I found this on the bodies," Keezik said. He showed Maurus the sun medallion, but didn't try to hand it to him. "It has the same inscription on my dagger. They knew you were a vampire."

"I already figured as much. They had stakes on them. Why they didn't use the spell on the medallion on me I don't know. If they had, I certainly would have been in worst shape than what you found," Maurus replied. "They might have known I was a vampire, but they seemed surprised to find out I was a mage."

"Seems odd. Most people know you as a mage around here and don't know about the vampire part," Keezik said. He pulled out the bit of paper. "Look at this. I found it on the half-fiend. Can't read it."

That seemed to rouse Maurus. He lifted his head and took the piece of paper Keezik held out. Once it was unfolded, he easily scanned the words. Keezik felt a pang of envy. Most other races had no issue with letters, but goblins had issues. Greenlin had found a way around them, but it was Greenlin. As far as Keezik could tell, Greenlin would find a way to stop the rising and setting of the sun if it stood in between him and knowledge.

"Someone ordered me to be killed," Maurus said. "As if we hadn't already been made aware of that fact. These are the orders to kill me as well as instructions to ensure their safety and success. No less than four people. Attack during the day. Bring stakes and other protection from vampires. Don't follow him up into the tower. Well, they did not happen. Pursuing me up the stairs did indeed lead to their downfall. There is no warning that I am a mage though."

"Can't be someone who knows you well then. Also can't be anyone from Eastwold either since most people know you as a mage," Keezik said. Then he smiled. "Just someone who knows about your extreme allergy to sunshine."

Maurus groaned. "I am sure that you believe that that was funny. You are sadly mistaken my friend."
