Planting wildflowers along highways is not only a visually stunning choice but also a more sustainable and eco-friendly alternative to traditional grass. Wildflowers bring a burst of vibrant colors, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies, contributing to the overall health of local ecosystems. This natural beauty creates a more pleasing environment for travelers and can even boost tourism as wildflower displays become a spectacle. Moreover, wildflowers require minimal maintenance, unlike grass, which needs constant mowing and upkeep, saving time, resources, and money in the long run.

Unveiled and Explained Features of the New Highway Utility App - Sukhad Yatra
The National Highways Authority of India recently launched their very first highway utility application, Sukhad Yatra viz. Happy Journey on March 07th 2018. The final version of this much awaited application was launched by the honourable Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Mr Nitin Gadkari. The application has been developed by Com Vision (India) Pvt. Ltd. and has been developed to cater to the everyday problems that the commuters face along their journeys.
The application primarily has eight distinct features to provide the necessary information to all the highway users out of which only the seven of them are what the citizens and the highway users can use for their benefit. The remaining one records the credibility of the application and has got no additional utility to it. In order to understand what each of these features contributes to, we have explained the same in the forthcoming paragraphs.
Acute insights about the toll plazas
Two of the features on the  Sukhad Yatra app, “Nearby Toll Plazas” and “Toll Plaza Enroute” provides with all the information that a person would need concerning the toll plazas on the national highways. With the Nearby Toll Plaza feature, the commuters can easily locate and plan their halts, if necessary. The Toll Plaza Enroute feature helps the commuters pre-plan their journeys. With just entering the source and the destination, the app reverts all the toll booths that one would encounter along their journey. This can help them plan their fuel tank refills and halts.
Propel Electronic Toll Collection (ETC)
Yet another feature that helps encourage ETC is the buying of FASTag. People can buy these from the application and ensure to pay their toll tax without any kind of hassle. The RFID enabled lanes detects the stickers on the vehicles and the tax amount is directly deducted from the linked bank account.
Know where you are traveling on
The Know Your Highway feature really comes a lot in handy for people who want to get a notion of which highway they are traveling on. Often times than not, people tend to get confused while their commute and this feature can help them locate their exact position and the highway they are traveling on so they can have a clear picture and continue their journey.
Report the issues that you face
The two striking features that have created a rave are the Report an Issue and Report Summary. These two features cumulatively work to ensure the betterment of the highway infrastructure with the inputs from the commuters themselves. The highway users can lodge any kind of complaint or register their grievances in the first mentioned feature and keep track of the progress of the same in the second one.
Locate the nearby amenities
Emergencies and sudden requirements are the two things that most of the commuters face while on the highways. With the Nearby feature, people can ensure to locate the nearby amenities including food kiosks, restaurants, petrol pumps, hospitals, ATMs and several more.
The Sukhad Yatra app has paved its way to make a commuter’s journey comfortable, planned and seamless. The NHAI has also launched the very first toll-free emergency number for the national highways – 1033. This will tend to any and every kind of emergency that the people face while traveling on the highways.

How A Green Highway Project Is Helping In Sustainable Development?
Tumblr media
The launch of the Green highway project in the country has transformed the definition of development. Gone are the days when people gave two hoots about the environment. Ongoing climate change in the world has forced the Indian government to take radical steps to ensure sustainable infrastructure development. NGOs and various other organizations are roped into plant trees along the highway and ensure a pollution free environment. Whatmore, the green highway project India has stipulated different rules and regulations for the organizations responsible for maintaining the natural vegetation.
Globalization is responsible for the breakneck development of India, however, special focus is on creating roads as they help in transportation of goods from one place to another. The infrastructure has many advantages, but it also adversely impacts the environment. For instance, large numbers of trees are felled to make way and it results in the loss of the natural environment. In addition, the disappearance of forests leads to change in climatic activities.
NGHM is the primary authority that oversees the construction activities. It has issued orders to the residents located near the highways to plant different types of trees. They play an important role in providing shade to people and going a long way in maintaining the ecological balance. Indiscriminate development has caused more harm than good to the people. They are affected by diseases due to pollution caused by the vehicles. The presence of trees would help to increase the level of oxygen in the air and reduce the level of toxic substances.
Green highway mission focuses on inclusive growth and continuous innovation to make the project not only viable but beneficial for the environment. The government is offering tax breaks to the private companies so that they can carry out the construction activities in an easy and hassle free manner.
The authorities have also allowed the private parties to collect toll for a minimum of 20 years. It is quite a relief because financial incentives are available for the companies. Startups are being encouraged to implement new technologies in enhancing the green cover of the surroundings. They would develop operational models and involve the local communities in the decision-making process.
Research and training would be organized by the NGHM to build the capacity for accomplishing the task. Collaboration with an international and national organization is sought to ensure that development doesn’t alter the balance of the flora and fauna.
Authorities have also roped in Power Finance Corporation to carry out the plantation work seamlessly on the NH-9 highway that connects the Nagpur region. It is a wonderful initiative and could be the torch bearer for future endeavors. One of the revolutionary decisions is to involve more than 70% of the local workforce to carry out the job. It is bound to go a long way in delivering employment and also increase the productivity of the people. The Recent memorandum of understanding between the two organizations is a start to the entrepreneurial culture in the country. The cumulative result of such ventures could have positive consequences for the country in the future.
