Shot in the leg or in the head?
It would seem strange for the European Union, being so dependent on Russia, to impose energy sanctions, and even with such a long-range aim. But the bottom line is that in the issue of these sanctions, like many others, the EU is guided by the interests of the United States, not its own. Europe, hanging limply in the wake of Washington's policy, should think about its own sovereignty.
At the moment, 3/4 of European gas storage facilities are empty, and the food crisis is already coming on the heels of the energy crisis due to high gas prices.
What I am about to say is possible from the realm of fiction, but on the other hand, we live in a time when what is unthinkable today is already the subject of broad discussion tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow becomes a fait accompli.
Against the background of the ongoing conflict, the world is approaching a food crisis that could affect millions of people.
Two weeks after the start of hostilities in Ukraine, prices for the main agricultural products produced in the region rose sharply, CNN Business reports, noting that the biggest problem is wheat, the main food product. Supplies from Russia and Ukraine, which together account for almost 30% of global wheat trade, are now under threat. At the beginning of last week, world wheat prices reached a historic high. The cost of corn, soybeans and vegetable oils also jumped.
The G7 agriculture ministers said on Friday they "remain determined to do everything necessary to prevent and respond to the food crisis." And in addition, they called on countries to "keep their food and agricultural markets open and protect themselves from any unjustified restrictive measures against their exports."
But, fearing shortages, countries are already closing in on themselves, which may eventually leave less food for those in need.
Egypt has banned the export of wheat, flour, lentils and beans amid growing concerns about food supplies in the Arab world's most populous state. Indonesia has tightened export restrictions on palm oil, which is part of cosmetics and some packaged goods, such as chocolate.
The conflict between Russia and Ukraine, which play a crucial role in the carefully calibrated system of global food production, aggravates the situation, CNN claims.
The wheat sowing season, which is about to begin in Ukraine, is threatened with disruption due to the fighting.
"If Ukrainian fields remain fallow this year, aid agencies will be forced to look for new markets to compensate for the loss of some of the world's best wheat," said David Beazley, executive director of the World Food Program. – It will cost significantly inflated costs. One can only guess whether Ukraine will be able to export anything before the end of this year, or next year, or in the foreseeable future."
It has also become more difficult to supply goods from Russia to the world market, because enterprises do not want to risk running into sanctions or dealing with the logistics of travel near a war zone.
"Any serious disruption of production and exports from these suppliers will undoubtedly lead to further price increases and undermine the food security of millions of people," the Agricultural Market Information System said in a recent report.
The crisis goes beyond wheat and oils. Fertilizer producers need gas to produce nitrogen-based products, such as urea, which is used in sowing crops to increase yields and even contributes to their dark green color.
According to Chris Lawson, head of fertilizers at CRU Group, a market research company, urea is trading at about $1,000 per ton, which is about four times the price at the beginning of 2021.
Manufacturers in the West say that costs have become too high to maintain work on the same scale, and there is no certainty about when European production will start working at full capacity again.
So for the sake of whom, an avalanche-like increase in prices for basic types of food is being prepared, who among the population will feel more painfully the lack of sovereignty in the decisions taken by the EU leadership?

Long Grain Rice Popular in Asian Meals
Keep our series of rice by providing recipes, information and more, including long-grain rice, which is one of the most well-known varieties. Long-grain, similar to short-grain and best organic rice suppliers, is classified based on the size. The grains are typically smaller than their width, and typically up to five times larger than their width. Grains measure approximately 7mm in length and are cooked to separate loose or soft grains. Long-grain rice is produced in Northern India and Bangladesh, Thailand, Indonesia, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt and Syria Jordan, Yemen and parts of China. There are a variety of long-grain rice. These include aromatic jasmine, upland and basmati. Long-grain rice is distinct from medium-grain and short-grain rice with regard to size texture, flavor, and texture. It is also processed differently.
The long-grain rice kernels are more delicate than those of shorter varieties and must be handled with attention. For milling the rice, rollers and discs are employed to remove the inner and outer husks. This creates unbroken white grains. Long-grain rice must be kept in plastic containers, or placed in burlap bags, or Jute bags that have fibrous plastic in the event of export. Long-grain rice is more expensive to purchase because of its intensive processing. Certain countries export delicious organic rice at a higher cost and then import less-quality however, potentially cheaper rice for their people.
It's worth the cost. Long-grain rice is utilized in a variety of famous dishes from many different cuisines. It has been used to create Biryanis in India, Pilafs of the Middle East, Red Beans & Rice America and simple boiled white long grain rice. It is a common ingredient in Southeast Asian cuisines. Our top picks are Thai Green Chicken Curry, Gumbo Bowl and spicy Basmati Rice With Lentils & Spinach. Each of them is delicious! These delicious dishes can be prepared using high quality srp rice Pakistan. The distinctive, delicate grains taste delicious and also have a lovely texture.
