What are some healthy snack options to keep on hand?
There are numerous healthy snack options you can keep on hand for a quick and nutritious bite. Here are some ideas:
1. Fresh fruits: Apples, bananas, oranges, grapes, berries, and sliced melons are all convenient and healthy choices.
2. Nuts and seeds: Almonds, walnuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, and sunflower seeds are packed with healthy fats, protein, and fiber.
3. Greek yogurt: Opt for low-fat or plain Greek yogurt, which is a good source of protein and calcium. You can add fruits or a drizzle of honey for added flavor.
4. Veggie sticks: Carrot sticks, celery, cucumber, and bell pepper strips are delicious when paired with hummus, Greek yogurt dip, or guacamole.
5. Rice cakes or whole-grain crackers: Look for varieties that are made with whole grains and minimal additives. Top them with nut butter, avocado, or lean protein like turkey slices.
6. Hard-boiled eggs: These are protein-rich and make for a satisfying snack. Sprinkle some salt, pepper, or paprika for added flavor.
7. Homemade trail mix: Create a mix of your favorite nuts, seeds, and dried fruits. Be mindful of portion sizes as dried fruits can be high in natural sugars.
8. Popcorn: Opt for air-popped popcorn or lightly salted varieties instead of buttery or sugary options.
9. Cottage cheese: It's a great source of protein and can be paired with fresh fruits or vegetables.
10. Homemade energy balls: Make your own energy balls using ingredients like oats, nut butter, chia seeds, and honey. They are easy to prepare in advance and store in the refrigerator.
Remember to read nutrition labels and opt for snacks that are low in added sugars, saturated fats, and artificial ingredients.
