Great Gray Owl
Alberta, Canada 🇨🇦
Perhaps not a popular opinion, but I look forward to the arrival of the “white stuff!” ⛄️ There is something special about capturing the magnificence of wild things in a snowy backdrop, don’t you think? 📸 😉..

You’re getting colder…
We’re leaving the Alpine and entering the Taiga region in my sticker club, so here’s a chilly great grey owl! I’m a cold-weather bird and I’m absolutely vining with these cold regions. And I’ve drawn a lot of birch/aspen trees, whose patterns I love dearly!
[ID: an illustration of a great grey owl flying in profile to the right. It is on a teal background with bare birch trees, and it is snowing. End.]

Added this 1978 stamp to my collection featuring Great Gray Owl (Strix nebulosa). These owls are the world's largest species of owl by length yet their size is deceptive - it is all mostly due to feathers while the body is light compared to other big owls. They are also not very easy to spot as they do not vocalize as much as other owls.

BOTD: Great Gray Owl

"A big nightbird, haunting woods of the far north and certain high mountains of the west. Its great size is partly illusion: it has very thick fluffy plumage, and its body size is smaller than it would appear, so it preys mostly on tiny rodents. When there is a population crash of voles and other rodents in the boreal forest, numbers of Great Gray Owls may drift into the northeast, causing excitement for birders."

A little concept sketch. A very important character of my AU. Her smile is quite charming, isn't it?
A beautiful Great Gray Owl female that is completely sane and has no issues at all. No, no.
This is a quick design sketch made in class. It's not final by far (or maybe it is, I don't know), but hey, at least I have a design for her now.

It takes commitment to photograph the great gray owl. As they hunt mainly during dawn and dusk, it is important to get to your destination just before dawn or dusk, when they are the most active. This means a very early wake-up call and an extra cup of coffee for me! ⏰🥱Often the sacrifice is worth it, especially when you get rewarded with a cool action shot. 😉 🙌
