I spent $46 dollars at Mississippi Market, next time I will have to take some pictures... but I purchased some already made soup in a plastic container, a grapefruit, feta cheese, a cucumber, celery, beets, lettuce blend, 2 bags of organic jasmine rice because they were on sale, and some alkaline water because it was on sale and I have been craving it, and a loaf of olive bread. I ate some soup and a salad tonight along with half of a bakery good item a dirty martini again and I had a few of the chocolate peanut butter pieces that I took pictures of.

The packaging in my opinion here is ok, I had a hard time getting it open, it didn't rip clean. The candies themselves are absolutely delicious they are probably my favorite candies maybe ever. Real version of Reese’s pieces but taste 10X better. All fair trade chocolate and few natural ingredients. Craigslist is a good place to go if you're looking to rescue rats but not necessarily support feeder breeders/pet shops. Craigslist is still a go-to place on the internet to post ads and animals up for adoption.  Petfinder is also a great place to check, but often doesn’t have any rats listed.

The feeder breeder/pet store issue goes beyond just "supporting" the pet store. Often those rats are raised in an environment of "kill or be killed" and aren't good at creating social structures with other rats. If you end up with a rat that is like that, they often will never accept another rat companion and will be extremely territorial and possibly food aggressive as well. Babies are usually too young to be as influenced by the feeder breeder environment, so if a feeder bin or pet store is your choice, a baby is your best bet.

Facebook is often a great place to connect with your local breeders and small animal rescues.  Breeders will have rats up for sale/adoption that are bred for looks, personality, breeding, and are a really great way to go for getting a pet rat! These rats are often bred from healthier rats and have fewer health risks, although there is no guarantee your rat won’t develop something along the road.

Wherever you get your rat, there will always be risks. Personality developments, sicknesses, diseases, and temperaments are always changing and are influenced by their environment. Their environment is yourself, their cage, their free-time, their cagemates, and anyone and anything they could encounter during their lives. It’s best to be prepared for caring for a rat that is sick, needy, aggressive, antisocial, young, old, and everything in between. 

Male vs. Female

On the male/female question, for both you need to be ready for spays/neuters. Neuters are used for helping aggressive males. In my experience, about 50% of males, when reaching puberty, become aggressive with cagemates and need to be neutered to help with their hormone imbalance. This happens with new babies, brothers, or lifelong friends. Aggression can range from excessive dominance (humping another male), biting (both humans and rats), and excessive fear (skittishness, avoiding human contact, in EXTREME cases can lead to heart attacks).

Females on the other hand, don't need to be spayed for aggression or dominance (usually). Spays are used as a preemptive "cure" for mammary tumors and cancer.  Almost every female will get a mammary tumor in their life when not spayed. 

Females are usually the hardest to introduce to new babies, as they are territorial to outsiders and to them, a baby is seen as a threat from another mom or a threat to their rank since babies can be overenthusiastic, very active, and disrespectful of another rats boundaries. 

Males usually take to new babies very well, and will sometimes "daddy" the babies and be very protective and loving. For ALL rats, a baby that is too young (under about 6-10weeks) isn't seen as a rat except to (most) nursing mothers. They are seen as prey, like mice, and will be killed or harmed. 

Breeding & Litters

Pet stores will often sell an inexperienced keeper two "females" or two "males", and the keeper ends up with opposite sexes and a batch of babies. Pet store mommy rats can also sometimes end up rejecting their babies because of their own trauma. This is also possible to happen with rats from breeders. 

Sometimes a female rat isn't made for having babies or isn't ready for babies. A mother rat can be a good mother for a first litter and reject their second. Breeding should never be attempted by someone inexperienced and not prepared to care for any and all outcomes (too many babies, rehoming, sick mom/pups, birth defects, birth issues, rejects, and more).

If you end up with an unexpected litter that YOU (situation where mom is not an option) need to care for, these are the basics:

Warmth - Babies need an outside source of heat, they cannot produce their own. This is done best with NON-electric sources, to reduce the possibility of accidental overheating. A sock filled with uncooked rice, microwaved for a few seconds, or a hot water bottle are the best sources of heat.  Always make sure there is plenty of blankets or cloth between the baby and the heat source. 

You can also keep babies warm by having them physically against your skin. Babies can be placed on your stomach or chest and then covered with your shirt or blanket. Make sure they cannot fall, since baby rat brains are easily harmed, and cannot suffocate.

Food - Baby rats must be fed EVERY 3 HOURS around the clock, until they are eating on their own. Rat babies are fed soy (they’re often lactose intolerant) infant formula. The best method is using a new and clean watercolor paint brush. A syringe leads to bubbles and food in the baby’s lungs, which can lead to pneumonia.

Dip the watercolor brush into the formula (warm) and feed the baby until it stops eating. If the baby doesn’t have a milkband or you think they haven’t eaten enough, wait 5 minutes or move to another baby, and then try again.

Pottying - A baby rat can’t poo on it’s own. To stimulate a baby rat to poo, use your pinky (to get a feeling of the baby, this also helps to tell if something is wrong) and gently rub their genitals, abdomen, and anus. It usually takes a minute or so. Baby poop should be soft and shouldn’t be runny or liquid. After about a week they should have clear urine as well.

Habitat

DO NOT HOUSE A RAT IN A TANK. A tank traps ammonia and can lead to respiratory issues. A tank also does not provide rats with space to CLIMB. Climbing is one of the most important things to keep a rat healthy. It helps them stay fit and active. A cage add-on for a tank is NOT a proper rat habitat.

A rat cage is where the rat should sleep, eat, and have alone time (away from you). A rat should have a minimum of 1 hour OUTSIDE the cage EVERY DAY. A constantly caged rat can become aggressive, antisocial, depressed, and sick. Rats love to explore and play with each other. If you can’t let your rat free-roam your bedroom for an hour, a bathroom with the door closed is an alternative. Make sure there is nothing they can get hurt on, no wires to chew, and nothing that they can wreck that is important to you.

Chewing

Rats CHEW. They will chew their beds, the cage bars, wood, your earphones, your computer cords, the wall, anything. They need something in their cage to chew on, not only for amusement, but chewing is what helps keep a rats teeth healthy. Chewing grinds them down and keeps them nice for eating. A rat that doesn’t chew or have opportunities to chew will have continuously growing teeth. They will grow into the rats gums and mouth and cause abscesses, infections, and can cause a malocclusion. 

A malocclusion is when the teeth don’t line up when the mouth is closed. A rat can be born with lopsided teeth, or can develop them when their teeth grow too big. A rat with a malocclusion will need their teeth clipped regularly, either at a vet, or have a vet show you to do it at home.

Bedding and Wheels

BE CAREFUL with wheels and bedding. Wire wheels are a no go and can catch feet and result in broken limbs. Females and babies are usually the only ones that use wheels, males are often too lazy and even chubby after neuters. A wheel must be big enough that the rat has a straight back while running.  

Bedding/hammock material needs to be NON-stringy. Strings and holes in hammocks and blankets can result in basically, a noose. Fleece is easiest to avoid injury with, since it doesn't split the same way with stringy seams. Hammocks are easy to no-sew and just use shower clips or safety pins to hold them to the wire on cages. Hammocks are also a big business in rat owners, and you can buy really nice sets from people on Etsy and stuff like that.

Other bedding wise, litter boxes don't necessarily need their own "litter". Just place a pee-rock and try to litter train. Rats really like to pee on rocks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ and litter training is basically just picking up poops for a couple months and placing them into the box so they get the idea and do it on their own. Some boys especially are very stubborn about this.

I use, simply, shredded paper. If there isn't a lot of ink, it's perfectly safe. Sometimes lined paper will leave blue or pink stains on white fur from pee/water and is pretty harmless. There is a lot of debate on other bedding, and I don't have a big conclusion on this, but don't use anything made of straight up wood because they can get splinters. ALSO, freeze for 48 hours before using bedding, since it can carry mites/fleas/lice.

Food

The best two foods for rats, nutrition wise, are Oxbow Official and Harlan Teklad.

Both are available to order in bulk from Amazon, and Oxbow is sold at a lot of pet stores. I prefer Harlan because it's vegetarian and doesn't include fish. Rats don't have a nutritional need for meat/fish/and are often lactose intolerant. Cooked bones are really nice snacks, especially to keep their teeth nice and filed. 

Rats can eat anything humans can eat with these exceptions:

MALES can't eat any citrus fruits as they have been linked to cancer. (source)  No oranges, lemons, limes, grapefruit.  No avocado pit or rind.  No apple seeds No raw corn (uncooked/dry kernels) No alfalfa based treats (causes impaction)  No alcohol No carbonated drinks

Some rats can be lactose intolerant-therefore no yogurt, milk, sour cream etc. (try it out and check for runny poop or abnormal poop). Be careful with bread, can cause choking when ingested too fast or when it is too doughy. Be careful with peanut butter, can cause choking from stickiness. Wild rats may "eat from dumpsters" but don't feed fancy rats any rotten or spoiled food. Ratties especially love corn on the cob, grapes, cucumbers, banana, peanuts (unsalted), dinner leftovers (when not too spicy or salty), dry noodles, cooked noodles, banana chips, basically everything! Rats can be fed 80%+ dark chocolate (small pieces) on a regular-ish basis, as it can help a lot with respiratory health and can be used to treat URIs (upper respiratory infection). 

Sickness

ALL rats carry Mycoplasma pulmonis (source). It is a dormant infection that can be brought on by a URI, stress, trauma, or other sickness. It is nearly impossible to treat. It is a respiratory disease and often leads to suffering/death. Contact your vet for treatment options. 

ALL rats carry mites. They live on their body like mites live in human eyelashes. They are usually not a problem, but can become a severe outbreak when they're stressed, sick, experiencing grief, loneliness, or are reintroduced by bedding or other contact. Contact your vet for a prescription for Revolution. DO NOT DIY treat with oil, dish soap, diatomaceous earth, or cat/dog flea treatment. Revolution is the ONLY safe treatment. It can be bought legally without a prescription from places outside the United States. In the US it is prescription only.

Tumors are extremely common and if your veterinarian has recommended surgery for removal, it is often a successful treatment. Cancerous tumors will continue to grow back, but benign can be removed and never be an issue again.

Sex Specific Issues

Male:

Hormonal aggression (neuter or separation)  Penis-plugs (discharge that has to be removed every once in a while) Stuck sheaths (they need a water based lubricant or coconut oil if their penis gets stuck outside the sheath)  Buck grease (orange discharge on their back, can be itchy and uncomfortable for them and may require a bath to remove)  UTI (vet immediately)

Rats with pink/red eyes are often blind or have bad eyesight but can still be super sweet, they just may need a little more trust training, and may be more wary of new situations/areas. They will possibly sway their heads from side to side, to sense with their whiskers the area around them. Pink/red eyed rats can also have light sensitivity and should be kept inside and not in direct sunlight.

Companions

Rats are extremely empathetic to other rats and females ALWAYS need a companion. Once you get a female, it CANNOT be alone without a rat friend (unless with extreme circumstances). Males sometimes prefer to live alone, or are aggressive even after neutering, though it's extremely uncommon. You should ALWAYS try introducing a companion rat before deciding your male should live alone. YOU are NOT a rat.  You will never be able to communicate or comfort your rat the way a companion rat will. Being with you 24/7 is not a replacement for a companion rat.

According to the news in Bloomberg; The degree of sufficiency of wheat, which has the biggest share in total grain production, is 100.5 percent.

The qualification level of barley, which constitutes the most important inputs of the feed industry, is 94.7 percent.

The sufficiency of corn was 70.3 percent.

The proficiency rate in rice was 69.2 percent.

The rate of sufficiency in dry legumes was 91 percent.

Looking at the subtitles of dried legumes, the rate of sufficiency in dry beans is 72 percent.

My Testimony Today Regarding the Massachusetts Emergency Ban on the Sale of Electronic Cigarettes

The Department of Public Health justified its emergency order by arguing that removing vaping products from the market would protect the public – and especially youth – from the vaping-associated respiratory disease outbreak that has now affected more than 2,000 people and caused 47 deaths.

However, unbeknownst to many, this emergency order was not successful in removing all vaping products from the market. In fact, the Department’s emergency order exempted – and therefore failed to remove from the market - a large number of flavored e-liquid products that are highly popular among youth and which Massachusetts youth continue to use, despite the emergency order. These flavored e-liquids are used by 63% of youth who vape regularly. Unfortunately, all of the following flavors are exempt from the ban and remain on the market today throughout the Commonwealth, easily accessible to youth. The exempted flavors include all of the following:

All of these flavors remain on the market, despite what policy makers are telling the public. The truth is that while the sale e-liquids that contain nicotine has been banned, all of the above flavors, which are available in THC vape cartridges, remain on the market.

And in fact, it is these products, not the nicotine e-liquids sold in retail stores, that are responsible for the respiratory disease outbreak. Recently, the CDC found that the lungs of every single one of the 29 patients whose lung fluids were tested contained vitamin E acetate. This is a thickening agent that is used only in THC vape carts and possibly in black market, counterfeit or adulterated nicotine cartridges, but not in legal nicotine-containing e-liquids sold at stores.

You can now easily see why the ban on the sale of nicotine e-liquids at retail stores is no longer justified. There is simply no evidence that these products are causing the outbreak, and there is incontrovertible evidence that vitamin E acetate oil – or some chemical contained in that oil – is now implicated as the culprit. Therefore, the only rational action for the Department to take at this point is to discontinue the emergency ban on nicotine-containing vaping products sold at retail stores in the Commonwealth.

Not only is this ban not preventing any outbreak cases – because those cases are not being caused by the banned products – but the ban is likely making the outbreak worse. Why? Because youth who can no longer access nicotine e-liquids are simply switching over to many of the sweet, fruity, alcohol-based, and other attractive flavors that are readily available in THC vape products. The tragedy, of course, is that these flavored THC e-liquids are precisely the ones that are killing many people and causing life-threatening illness. Banning nicotine e-liquids is not preventing youth from dying due to respiratory failure. But it may actually increase the number of kids who develop respiratory failure. With flavors like Girl Scout Cookies, Cookies and Cream, Mimosa, Banana Sherbet, It's Yo Birthday, Russian Cream, Gelato, Grape Soda, Potent Pineapple, and Super Lemon Haze available, do you really think that youth are just going to completely stop vaping? In the short time that JUUL has limited access to many of its flavors (such as mango and creme), youth have just shifted over to vaping the mint-flavored JUUL pods. They didn't stop vaping because some flavors were taken off the market. Youth are resourceful, vaping is cool, and they will simply switch to whatever flavors are available. Those flavors will be vape juices like Zskittlez, Bubble Gum, Cotton Candy, and Cherry Pie. And the only difference will be that instead of the risk of mild respiratory irritation (with most nicotine-containing e-liquids) or nicotine addiction (with JUUL), the major risk for our nation's youth will now be DEATH from lipoid pneumonia or chemical pneumonitis. How is that good public health policy?

Moreover, the ban on electronic cigarettes is already having devastating impacts on the public’s health.

Sales data reported by PiperJaffray for the four weeks ending October 20 (when the Massachusetts emergency ban was in effect for 25 of the 28 days) and the four previous weeks (mostly before the ban went into effect) were compared to sales data for the previous year. The PiperJaffray analysis revealed that there has been a substantial shift from vaping to smoking in the state. This indicates that ex-smokers in Massachusetts who were reliant on e-cigarettes to stay smoke-free are now returning to smoking in large numbers. Nationally, there was very little difference in the rate of decline in cigarette sales between these two time periods from 2018 to 2019. The rate of decline decelerated by just 0.3 percentage points (from -7.8% to -7.5%). However, in Massachusetts, the rate of decline decelerated by a massive 5.7 percentage points (from -9.8% to -4.1%).

The emergency ban on e-cigarettes did not prevent any respiratory disease cases, but it did send tobacco stocks soaring. Because the stock analysts understood that this ban would result in a substantial return to smoking among vapers.

In fact, recent survey data of Massachusetts e-cigarette users revealed that a substantial proportion of them reported returning to smoking after the emergency order went into effect.

As you may know, I did not believe that the emergency order was justified when it was issued on September 24thbecause it was clear to me that the outbreak was being caused primarily, if not solely, by THC vaping products. However, even if it was justified on September 24th, it is not justified on November 22nd, after overwhelming evidence has been uncovered that unequivocally ties the outbreak to cannabis vaping cartridges or other black market products that have been adulterated with vitamin E acetate oil.

I therefore recommend that the Department rescind the emergency order as it relates to nicotine e-cigarettes sold at retail stores in the Commonwealth.

The cleanser comes with a muslin cloth to use to remove the cleanser while gently exfoliating your skin.

Sappho New Paradigm

Sappho New Paradigm CC Cream in Light provides a translucent foundation for your skin. The CC Cream contains organic aloe juice to hydrate and decrease inflammation. I tried the CC Cream on top of my moisturizer and found it provided good coverage for my rosacea. You can also wear Sappho New Paradigm CC Cream as a primer under your foundation. It also contains 10% zinc oxide to offer some protection against the elements.

Iremia Skincare

Iremia Skincare Restorative Facial Oil is a gentle containing Jojoba, Rosehip, Argan and Sea Buckthorn Oils to hydrate, regenerate and improve skin tone, as well as help repair skin damage. I like the oil’s lightweight consistency and the blend of botanical oils smells lovely.

This was my first time trying Boosh products. The balm, which contains organic coconut oil, and beeswax culled from their own organic farm. MREs come in many different shapes and sizes. You may have notice that recently many large retailers of MREs have started selling a whole array of different meal products. Because of this, you may be wondering about the differences between a given product and another. Considering that these meals can be quite expensive, you should take not of the helpful information outlaid in this article concerning a wide range of MRE products.

First of all, there has been a big shift in the type of MRE products that are being offered on the internet. A growing category of MRE that is being seen specializes specifically in sandwiches, breads and pizzas that are in an MRE form. Because of this, many large retailers of these ready to eat meals have decided to separately sell just the pizza products so that individuals that are interesting in trying it for themselves don’t have to commit to a full meal.

The great thing about purchasing a single product such as a pizza or sandwich is that they are much cheaper than buying a full meal. Although everyone knows that the foods found within a MRE is very cheap, it’s even cheaper just to purchase a single food product within a meal. You’ll find that an MRE is much cheaper than buying an actual pizza at your local pizzeria. Because of this, some people have stockpiled on MRE pizzas just to eat during their free time.

Furthermore, one of the best things about the pizza, bread and sandwiches category of MRE products is the fact that you can buy them in very large quantities. If you chose to buy a case of MREs specifically for certain type of food found in a given meal, you would be left with a lot of unneeded junk. You can prevent this simply by buying large quantities of say a particular type of MRE bread that you have grown to enjoy. This will mean easier shipping and handling and a much more efficient way to stockpile all of your favorite ready to eat foods.

Another type of MRE product that is becoming increasingly popular is the dessert and snack products. Lots of those that enjoy eating these meals have often talked about how surprisingly tasty the desserts and snacks are. For example, the jelly desserts that have become popular with these meals in recent years are becoming very popular amongst MRE fans who enjoy eating something sweet after eating the traditionally very filling and savory main meals found in a MRE. 

Because of this, once again a huge range of different MRE sellers have decided to separate just the snack products and just the dessert products so customers can just buy only those if they wish. These products are as you imagine usually much cheaper than their equivalent counterparts at your local convenience store or supermarket.
