It is value noting that this could be a solid piece of ceramic and not simply an insert. It’s mounted, colored in black, and includes a highly-legible tachymeter scale, the latter detail lending to the sporty look of the watch. The bi-colour 24-hour bezel is coated in Hardlex, to make sure durability while the GMT hand improves practicality, visibility and legibility. Featuring nearly-full metal development with thick bridges and plates, all 9F calibers are designed to be taken apart new seiko gmt and stuck ought to there ever be a difficulty, and never simply discarded as is the case with many other quartz movements. The instances are rated to 20 bar water resistance and feature a magnetic resistance score of sixteen,000 A/m (approx. 200 gauss), which is roughly three times the more widespread 4,800 A/m rating (60 gauss).
The Grand Seiko Sports Collection Spring Drive Chronograph GMT reference SBGC240 is a limited version of 500 items, and it goes to be obtainable at Grand Seiko Boutiques and selected Grand Seiko retailers worldwide in July 2021. Etsy is now not supporting older versions of your web browser in order to ensure that consumer information remains seiko 6r54 safe. Beautiful watch that you'll like, it has been around two weeks since I received it and I like it. So far it has been very accurate and needed no time adjustment which is sweet for an computerized watch. The first ever Seiko 5 watch, Seiko Sportmatic 5, was born in 1963. ‘’5’’ represented the promise that each Seiko 5 watch would have 5 key attributes.
It is supposed to stay in whatever position you set it in by friction only, however it doesn't. As that bezel is meant for use to indicate one other time zone, not staying put makes it quite new seiko watches 2023 ineffective. With its basic device watch design, robust automated movement, and a worth south of $400, it’s no understatement to say the Seiko 5 Sports is in a category of its own.
For example, if one have been touring from New York to California, they'd simply leap the hour hand again three positions upon arrival to account for the three-hour time difference. With a movement as accurate as those in Grand Seiko’s 9F series (+/-10 seconds per year annual deviation), not having to reset the watch is a big deal, and it speaks to Grand Seiko’s dedication seiko prospex to precision. Ever since it was created in 1968, the Seiko 5 Sports collection of mechanical watches has been synonymous with durability and reliability. When, in 2019, the gathering was relaunched, an lively and youthful dynamism was added. Today the collection takes another step forward with, for the first time, the introduction of a GMT caliber.
The top crystal is sapphire with an anti-reflective coating, and it protrudes slightly above the bezel. Flanking the crystal on all three models is a fixed ceramic bezel (with a 24-hour scale) colour matched to the dial. Well-made watch, as anticipated from Seiko however it does want some improvements to be a really useable GMT watch. The other problem I really have with this watch is that the moveable outer bezel has no ratchet.
In addition to the time of day and date, it offers a GMT hand and an influence reserve indicator. The chronograph measures elapsed time up to 12 hours and the seconds hand strikes in good, steady and silent glide motion because it does so. The deep blue of the dial and the bezel echo the colour of the night time sky and contrasts with the brightness of the high-intensity titanium case. The design of the case and dial attracts inspiration from certainly one of Seiko’s best-loved sports seiko spb385 watches, recognized to lovers as the Seiko SKX series. The five-row bracelet is a brand new design also inspired by the unique SKX series in which the center rows are polished to create a distinction with the solid feel of the rows that bind them. Chronograph functionality is arranged in an incredibly legible means on the dial.
Based on the tried and trusted platform of Caliber 4R, this new sequence of three designs provides the comfort of a GMT hand in a case that is just 0.1 mm thicker than the existing one. SBGN019 includes a black dial with orange accents, SBGN021 has a blue dial with brilliant blue accents, and SBGN023 has a black dial with shade accents that make the dial appear prospex gmt nearly brown. The first is on the GMT hand, the second is on the “GMT” text on the dial, and the third is alongside the outer dial ring from three to nine o’clock (or six to eighteen alongside the bezel), with this color-blocking supposed to mark the daytime. It is an efficient use of shade in both its subtlety and legibility.
In addition to the chronograph function, which might measure elapsed time up to 12 hours, Grand Seiko also included a GMT complication for even more performance. Altogether, caliber 9R86 has more than four hundred components, and each motion is hand assembled by the expert craftsmen and women of the Shinshu Watch Studio. Grand Seiko makes its quartz GMT watches as user-friendly and hassle-free as their mechanical counterparts. As is the case with all of Grand Seiko GMT watches, the 9F86 movement powering this new collection provides these watches true GMT performance. This implies that the native hour hand is independently adjustable whereas the GMT hand remains fixed to “home” time. The benefit of this kind of performance is that upon arriving to a new locale in a special time zone, the wearer can shortly jump the hour hand to the appropriate hour without having to reset the watch.
First access to new retailer announcements, events & promotions, and the hottest trends in style and way of life. With their sporty design and tough-as-nails motion, these new references are a fantastic alternative for day by day wear regardless of the state of affairs. The case, measuring 43 seiko prospex gmt.8mm across and 16.1mm thick, boasts an attractive mix of finishing. The high surfaces are given a hairline finish, and the edges are polished to a distortion-free reflection only achievable through Grand Seiko’s Zaratsu method. Around again, an exhibition case again shows off the gorgeous 9R86 caliber.
Designed for the worldwide traveler To be positive that they stand out clearly, the GMT hands are in shiny red on the black and blue dial versions and in black for the version in orange. Reference SBGC240 is paired with a five-link stainless steel bracelet that includes a three-fold clasp with push button launch. The clasp options seiko gmt an 18k yellow gold emblem marked with “GS.” Additionally, the watch comes with a crocodile strap with gold-tone stitching. Those familiar with Grand Seiko’s chronograph lineup will likely see some notable design adjustments here. The base of the bezel features a distinct dodecahedron shape, and it’s rendered in 18k yellow gold.

Introducing The Grand Seiko Sport Spring Drive Chronograph GMT SBGC238 60th Anniversary Watch
BY HARLAN CHAPMAN-GREEN
You know, I think it’s the 60th anniversary of Grand Seiko this year? I may be wrong, but we have had five different articles on 60th-anniversary pieces so far this year. Well, here’s another one! This is the Grand Seiko reference SBGC238; it’s Grand Seiko’s idea of a heavy-hitting sports watch in solid gold with a complicated dial and unique design features. It’s also rather good looking.
Limited to 100 examples only, this anniversary piece is based on the Grand Seiko Sport collection which was used last year to, incidentally, celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Spring Drive mechanism. If you’ve forgotten what those watches looked like, click here to read our article and remind yourself.
When I first looked at the pictures of the watch, I was quite impressed, and I remain impressed after looking at the Grand Seiko Sport. The angular case, similar to the Royal Oak Concept, makes a return for the SBGC238. The case is made of solid 18k rose gold and has a 44.5mm diameter with the dial sitting quite a way inboard from the edge, but its proportions mean that it still looks like a proper luxury watch and it should be a good wear on the wrist. Connected to the watch is an indigo blue crocodile leather strap with 18k rose gold clasp, I sort of wish Grand Seiko had gone all the way and added a solid rose gold bracelet to this one, I think it could pull it off.
The textured dial of the watch is also blue to match with the strap. Grand Seiko describes the texture of the dial as inspired by a lion’s mane, as the lion is a symbol of the brand, though it looks like it could be made from a rare Japanese gemstone. The watch features running seconds, a power reserve, chronograph and a date window (with white background). The layout of the dial is unusual and yet not unpleasant to the eye; it also handily reminds you that this watch is a Spring Drive watch.
Spring Drive is Seiko’s combination of electronic accuracy and mechanical engineering. A traditional mainspring, gears and rotor power an electronic high-precision quartz regulator, the output is controlled via the same gears as a standard mechanical watch, and there’s even a column wheel for the chronograph. It has a 72-hour power reserve and an accuracy rating of +/- 0.5 seconds per day. The only thing I’m disappointed by slightly is the lack of gold decoration on the movement which would have set it apart. Still, there is a little golden lion logo on the rotor.
Grand Seiko says the price of the watch is JPY5,060,000, which translates to roughly £36,600, €40,300 or $47,600, but we don’t have a confirmed price in those currencies as of yet.

Introducing – Grand Seiko Sport Spring Drive Chronograph GMT 60th Anniversary SBGC238
If you’re into watches, you certainly have noticed that this year, Japan’s top watchmaker Grand Seiko is celebrating its 60th anniversary. As such, we’ve seen multiple new releases, most of them based on a dark blue colour for the dial and certain elements of the habillage. Think about the Hi-Beat SBGH281, the elegant SBGW259 (recreation of the 1st even GS watch) or the simple SBGR321. Today, it’s all about boldness, luxury and high-tech, with the new Grand Seiko Sport Collection Spring Drive Chronograph GMT 60th Anniversary Limited Edition… or to put it simply, the new reference SBGC238.
This new limited edition should feel familiar to most GS enthusiasts, as it is indeed based on the shape and design introduced at Baselworld 2019 with the Grand Seiko Spring Drive Sport Collection. Sharp, angular, almost aggressive in design and with masculine proportions, we’re here in a different territory than the elegant and restrained Hand-Wound SBGW231 for instance. But that’s the purpose of the Sports collection.
As a declination of the existing (but also limited) SBGC230, the new 60th Anniversary Limited Edition is still based on the same 18k rose gold case with polished and brushed facets and sharp lines. The whole watch is actually inspired by the lion… Which in Grand Seiko’s nomenclature means a lot, as being the brand’s emblem. For instance, the lugs look like a lion’s nail (according to the brand). Despite the 44.5mm diameter, the brand has worked on the proportions, with angled lugs to ensure a soft fit on the wrist. The watch is equipped with two oversized pushers and a screw-down crown, ensuring a robust 200m water-resistance.
The case of the SBGC238 is topped by a double-domed sapphire crystal and a fixed bezel, with sapphire insert, to display a second time zone with a 24h scale. This colour is actually the conducting line of this edition and pays tribute to Japanese culture. “This distinctive blue colour of indigo dye, known as “Katsu-iro,” was favoured and used by the Samurai for their armour and represented their bravery.”
The dial of this Grand Seiko SBGC238 also combines blue and lion inspiration, with the same deep colour and texture the recalls he mane of the lion – the pattern is actually quite pleasing and gives the watch a unique look. The hands, typically facetted and bevelled as most GS watches, are large and combined to oversized applied markers. All are largely filled with Lumibrite. The chronograph hands are all treated in gold colour, matching the case. Complementing the design is a bold strap, made of crocodile leather in indigo blue with gold-coloured grooves. It is closed by an 18k rose gold triple-fold clasp.
The display is typical to Grand Seiko’s Spring Drive Chronograph GMT watches, with small seconds at 9 o’clock and two originally-positioned sub-counters on the right side – 30-minute and 12-hour totalizers. The second time zone is independent and displayed classically in the centre. Finally, a power reserve indicator and a date will be helpful on a daily basis.
Under a sapphire caseback with transferred GS lion logo, the SBGC238 features the in-house calibre 9R96, a hybrid movement with Spring Drive technology. Combining the beauty of a mechanical engine, the practicality of an automatic winding and the precision of a quartz regulator, this engine is here complemented by a column-wheel chronograph, which benefits from the smooth motion of the seconds hand. This 72-hour power reserve movement has an accuracy rated at ±0.5 second per day.
