Incorrect "The Boxtrolls" quote
(Sorry for any spelling or grammar mistakes)
Shoe: Eggs? What's Eggs?
Fish: *Holding baby Eggs* That's what I decided to call him. Is there a problem?
Shoe: Fish, you're not supposed to name it. Once you name it, you start getting attached to it! Now put that thing back where it came from, or so help me!

Fish and Shoe -- Pumpkin String Lights
Tumblr media
Haven't I told you that I started to love this movie? :)
I watched The Boxtrolls last weekend on Netflix (when Netflix keeps acting up and freezing every time on TV to the point where I had to finish it on my iPad) and it was such a cute film ^^
I drew Fish and Shoe last night with the pumpkin light strings, these two adorable boxtrolls aren't too bad to draw ^^;
Anyways, what y'all think?

The Boxtrolls is a 2014 American stop-motion animated fantasy, comedy film directed by Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi (in their feature directorial debuts) based on the 2005 novel Here Be Monsters! by Alan Snow. It is produced by Laika. The film tells the story of Eggs, a human boy raised by trash-collecting trolls, known as “Boxtrolls”, as he attempts to save them from Archibald Snatcher, a pest exterminator.
This film is also one of my favourite stop motions because of the sweet nature and the silly, quirky characters. I watched many videos about how they made the models of the boxtrolls and the challenges they faced throughout it. I loved the whole idea of these different creatures hiding away in there own bubble, away from the real world, which supposedly everybody’s afraid of them, but are actually the kindest of creatures.
When I first watched it, I couldn’t stop thinking about the tiniest of details like; the crinkles in their boxes, the bugs the trolls ate, the flowers or food on the tables and the lifelike style of the houses etc. I was just in love with all of it and would really like to learn all about it.

Box Trolls (2014)
Tumblr media
The Boxtrolls is a great example of an amazing stop-motion film. Directed by Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi and produced by Laika, the movie tells a simple yet adorable and entertaining story of friendship, values and the duality of good and evil. The Boxtrolls quickly immerses you into the atmosphere of the film and the city of Cheesebridge with amazing animation, artstyle and overall attention to detail over the film. The movie’s soundtrack fits the theme and perfectly highlights the scenes in the movie, setting the right tone.
SYNOPSIS
In the underground of a fictional town called Cheesebridge, live creatures called the Boxtrolls. As the pest exterminators roam the streets of the town, the Boxtrolls are quickly getting taken away by the so called ‘Red Hats’. When a boxtroll named Fish and countless others get kidnapped by the exterminators, Eggs, a boy living with the trolls, ventures out to find his lost friends. Along the way he befriends Winnie, the daughter of the mayor. Together, they devise a plan to save the Boxtrolls from the exterminator.
MODELS
The character models in the film are amazing. They are very detailed and truly come to life. And with that, the model design and fabrication was just as difficult as any part of the film’s production. There were 28 Eggs puppets, and about 15-20 for each individual of the main Boxtrolls. Overall, there were about 190 puppets - at the time a record for a Laika film. Concept art and sketches was created by Mike Smith.
The puppets had feature facial animation (they have thousands of printed out faces to achieve the best emotion) through both mechanical and replacement methods.

Brief Review: The Boxtrolls (2014)
Rated the film 3.5 stars out of 5. An impressive stop-motion fantasy film that rightfully earned an Oscar and Golden Globe nomination that year for Best Animated Film, despite strong competition in Big Hero 6 (Oscar winner) and How to Train Your Dragon 2 (Golden Globe winner). The colour choices and character designs by directors Graham Annable and Anthony Stacchi create a spooky atmosphere, muddling the viewer’s definitions of heroes and villains in the plot, intensified by Dario Marianelli’s complementary score. The impressive ensemble cast featuring Jared Harris, Richard Ayoade, Tracy Morgan, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg, and Toni Collette wonderfully deliver the dry, British wit, but none of them compare to Ben Kingsley, who creates an unforgettable, outlandish role that relishes in all its ridiculousness. The mystery aspects of the story may not land too well upon conclusion, the twists almost too typical for the set-up, but the other aforementioned components, including the extensive efforts of bringing the stop-motion animation to life, make the entertaining film worth seeing once. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0787474/
