I find your takes on Jimmy's behavior patterns interesting, especially in regards to how he treats Curly.
What do you think is the cruelest vs kindest he's ever been to him pre crash? Curious about the range; what Curly might hope is potential for better in him vs the biggest hit he was willing to take in hopes Jimmy became better before everything imploded.
I always find this question fascinating. The question of what Curly will tolerate towards himself vs towards other's with Jimmy.
The fandom creates this misconception around their dynamic due to a lot of hindsight we have and a lot of emotional/relationship dynamic gaps being filled. We assume Curly has to be equally as dependent and unable to regulate/understand his feelings towards Jimmy as Jimmy is to him as we never really get Curly's motives or inner thoughts towards Jimmy. I personally think this is far from the case and while still unhealthily attached to Jimmy he is still very aware of him, doesn't believe he'd ever go as low as he did in the game but knows he's petty/vindictive to an abnormal extent.
I think it's important that in HFIM he (Jimmy) is represented as a parasite on the fish rather than a real, helpful and needed part of him (Curly). It is something that slowly kills the fish if left unchecked or there are multiple (coughP.Ecough) and the fish would live better without but can't get out by itself. A parasite in which the specific method of latching is rather gory/unpleasant for the host the whole way through. I see people use this parasitic relationship as an example but never actually look at the specific relationship exemplified. How it is one formed without any consent or real want of the host but they are stuck in it no matter what they do, so they must adapt or be killed. In the games unfortunate circumstance, it just doesn't affect the host.
Jimmy on the other hand likes to test the waters, likes to see how deep he can really latch onto Curly so he can never really be pulled out, not without doing more unnecessary damage. I've said it before but I think they have breaks: Curly does have enough of a backbone to separate himself from him when he can, when the circumstances allow but he's not willed enough to keep him out, not when Jimmy inevitably finds a way to latch back on and sink deeper. Pulling him out again just rips more out of him, makes him less sturdy to it, drains more. He can take the parasitism. He thinks he's taking it.
As mentioned previously, Curly can't get/cut Jimmy out of his life alone. He will inevitably give him another chance because Jimmy will do something to make him think he deserves it. He will clean himself up. He will try to keep a job longer than a month. He will be polite, civil. He won't ask for a favor and if he does it's small and he'll repay it. He worms his way back in while also pushing others out. Anyone who claims it's all an act again or he's just doing it to get back in Curly's good graces just doesn't get him. They don't get them. Curly's upset he's seen it over and over again, the dip in progress, the lows. But the peaks get higher each time, he can't leave when he sees how good Jimmy is doing. He's scared without him the next low will be his last. Jimmy no doubt put that idea in his head.
But to answer you question: I don't think Jimmy's cruelty towards Curly's comes not from actions but conversations, the way he's conditioned Curly to view himself as underserving to complain. He's rendered him unable to talk about his pains because by "objective" comparison he's always worse off. I don't think its one cruel dismissive act in this vein but multiple, the act of uncaring and disinterest while also demanding the same attention Curly so desperately craves from anyone not just Jimmy. The want for his friend to act like a friend and be so purposely shut down or condescended to when he just needs the shoulder to cry on he always provides. The emotional relief he gives him returned.
I imagine he's told him to suck it up when pets die, to quit shaking when a career deciding meeting was about to happen, to get over and just "fuck someone new" when he has another failed fleeting relationship the few months back on Earth. Maybe it's said within a joke to make it less sharp, maybe with the same "You have it to nice to be acting like this) attitude. It's that type of cruelty that breaks him down and makes it harder to ignore that Jimmy truly doesn't care about him, does not have the same desire for him to be happy like Curly has for him. Jimmy doesn't really try to hide it either and he just never would outright say it. He calls it tough love, saying its just how he is and Curly doesn't know how much longer he can actually take it if it's really true.
Curly is willing to keep taking these hits in hopes Jimmy realizes how he hurts others, how it hurts him with every dogged look or abrupt end to a conversation. It doesn't and every time he's almost ready to just give up. If Jimmy won't be kinder for him, the only person that's still there for him, why continue to bother? Why believe he'll change.
Kindest? The fact he always tries to come back? That he stayed his friend and such a close one despite how long he'd be gone. That Curly is the one he calls and trusts and lets him know that. Curly has friends, we know that, but we also know they don't know him. Maybe they never did or maybe because of his job, the distance made it harder to keep knowing him. Jimmy didn't always work there and yet he stayed, close enough so that Curly was never alone when he came back. That he didn't come back to friends shocked he was coming back or a dozen new faces that were new at family gatherings/the news of who passed. He chose to remain consistent for Curly, with Curly, he never changed for Curly. That's how Jimmy explains it whenever Curly needs a reminder that he's not so bad. He's physically hear for him, he's something that's set and that already more than Curly should be asking for considering all he has. Curly thinks it's a major kindness considering no one else has done it for him.
I feel like people mischaracterize Jimmy in that he does not take pleasure or gain a feeling of superiority from the direct act of being cruel. He'd get nothing from directly making Curly hurt cause it's fleeting but he likes when Curly feels bad and lesser cause he can imagine it's lesser than him. When it's something he knows is gonna be a lasting mark. His kindness likewise if supposed to be a kiss on the initial boo-boo he makes. Purely for Curly and shallow. Jimmy likes Curly, I don't think him seeing him as a friend is debatable, yet we can question how utilitarian he does view friendship in general,
#is a close friend someone he cherishes or find indespensably useful? he doesnt want curly to die or get hurt in a way he is no longer a use#to him i dont think hed like caring for curly and the frustration would make him lash out he doesnt actually want the responsibility#just the superiority hence why he gets so violents when he has to take care of curly and why hes so forceful with everything#i talk about jimmy taking advantage of the friendship a lot but he does still LIKE curly just not in the same way that curly likes and love#him or maybe its the other way around where jimmy loves curly as a friend to the point of infatuation but then doesn't like him maybe#even dislikes him as a person? i dunno they are friends but jimmy is just uhhhhh crazy dissmissive and a lotta mean to him in my mind#mouthwashing#mouthwashing game#curly mouthwashing#jimmy mouthwashing#captain curly#ask#anon

Thoughts That Breathe
L
Death Note
L would love to say that he knew that this was coming. That he used his insightful nature once again to outsmart Light. That he would finally put an end to the dreadful reign of underserving punishment plaguing the criminals of Japan, and in extension the entire nation. But, he did not know this would happen, at least he hoped it wouldn’t.
It was rather moronic for him to see Light as nothing more than a means to an end. He knew the boy was not his friend. He knew that if the path would not stray, that his life may cease before the case does. That is sacrifice. That will forever be his sacrifice.
L covertly swallows his own saliva that is unnaturally pooling in his own mouth as his hand twitches. A button is pressed, a silent alarm to those he trusts that the worst case scenario will most likely happen. He glances at Light, eye slightly narrowing as he observes the boy’s expression.
Light looks pleased and looks at him for a mere moment, but that is enough for L to confirm his hypothesis. He comes to terms with it quite easily, how can he not? This is his future, he knows it. His own lifeline will be cut short so the rest of the world can live on. The rest of the world has to live on, he has put far too much effort into all of this for some idiots to destroy it all.
He does not think that Light will ruin it, quite the contrary. While the boy is rather intelligent, he has always played into L’s hand quite nicely. An egotistical nature will always be someone’s downfall when they refuse to look at the bigger picture. L should know, it is his own flaw as well.
L would be the first to admit that Light and him are far too similar to each other. At first it was annoying, having to deal with a boy who perfectly mirrors himself, yet L now finds it intriguing. Because at some point, the similarities between Light and L ceased, only to come back and intertwine with each other, tangling like a ball of yarn. For a short amount of time, L saw true potential in Light, only for it to vanish the moment the chess pieces were closing in. He watched as Kira possessed this boy once more, the former life and existence of a well-meaning individual killed in favor of a monster.
L was finally able to know every single answer to every hole in the case, yet he knows his time is approaching. Perhaps that is why he met Light on the roof. Perhaps that is why he called Light his friend. Friend…that is quite a strange word. He has never seen himself using it. But, he does think that accurately describes whatever they have going on between the two of them.
But he has plans, he knows how this will end. He knows that he has gathered more than enough to accurately give any successor the leg up on Light. He has complete confidence in his successors, knowing that they are ready. After all, he did most of the work himself.
L’s eyes glance over the screen, darting over all the information as if he will be able to retain it. He could, he already has most of it memorized, but he also knows receiving this information is useless. L knows that he will die today, yet he still wants to learn. He still wants to think.
Kira and L danced for far too long, and L is beginning to grow weary of it all. To know your demise is on the horizon for so long is absolutely exhausting, making L want to curl up on an armchair and doze off. The music has changed too much, the style of movement growing sluggish. He was never the one to be graceful, instead the one to step on his partner’s toes and refuse to apologize.
But Kira can take many things, even his life, but mind will remain. His life’s work will remain. L will continue to live on, the world may not realize that he is gone, but his life’s work will thrive under the current circumstances. His words will whisper in Light’s ears, just as he intended. He will live on, just because his words do.
Every note, every letter, every click of a keyboard will persist and slowly close in on Light until there is nowhere he can hide, nowhere to run. Light can try, but death is absolute. It comes for everyone eventually, even if one wishes not to think about it. L can almost see it, his life line counting down. The thread is being pulled by the fates, rusted scissors lining up to finally cut.
It is like he can see Light’s as well. It is longer, far longer than L’s, but it has an end. Because all of this has to end. Light is no good, just as L is no longer mortal. Just like how L’s work will be studied by thousands as the time goes by, Light will fade into obscurity, the world forgetting the tragedies that he left.
Because the world will not learn. History repeats itself, but the people who live it refuse to listen. This will repeat over and over until they are forced to listen. How many people have to die before the reality of it all crashes on the world? How many times does a egotistical megalomaniac have to threaten humanity before humanity changes its ways?
L does not know. For the first time, he does not know. Because some things are beyond his own comprehension. The flaws of humanity are his expertise, and a form of humanity without such is unknown. He would be lost.
He feels it, the pressure in his chest, incessant ringing overtaking his senses. He hears the screams of shock as he falls, eyes wide. He could have prevented, that much he is sure of, but doing so would doom humanity in a way he just cannot bring himself to do.
So he dies, for the very people who never even know his face, merely his words.

S05E02: The Lady Named Grace
Prompt: Inkspired Inktober - Grace
Characters: Stella, Bin
What's in a name? Not everybody is proud of their name and Stella is one of them. She has always introduced herself using her nickname. That's why when other people find out her real full name, they tend to be in awe or laugh, oftentimes the latter.
Bin was tasked to fix the campus ministry's database when he found out Stella's full first name--Mariestella Grace.
He looked at her baffled. "But why? Maganda naman ang pangalan mo ah."
Stella wasn't convinced. "Wala lang. Parang ang common kasi. Tapos pangmatanda." Nagkibit-balikat siya.
He smiled at her. "Do you even know what your name means?" Umiling si Stella. "You know what, grace is one of my favorite words from the Bible. Every time I read it, I'm reminded of the underserved favor God has given us when Jesus died on the cross for us."
Oo nga naman. She has been so familiar of her name that she forgot what it really meant in the first place. That day was the beginning of the time she started to embrace her own name.
Later that night, she even looked for the meaning of her name Mariestella. What comfort it brought her when she found out that it meant star of the sea, which is also used to describe Mary in the Bible. What a privilege to be named after a woman of faith.
Meanwhile, her name Grace reminded her that even if she grew up in a Christian family, she has fallen short of God's glory one way or another. But it has also became her reminder that she has been saved by grace alone, not by her good works. It's not her own doing.
Before she went to sleep, she composed a message to her parents. "Thank you for giving me a name that reminds me of how God loves me."

he’s plucking the vixen’s hand from her side, and with a forward lean of his torso, her knuckles are in nigh reach of lips that ultimately grace her knuckles in cordial affection.
blue eyes unveil from their curtains, peaking up with expectation to her response.
Oh? Wasn't this bold of him, oh my was he trying to impress her in this subtle way? This gentle sign of affection would sway any young maiden's heart making her weak in her knees for this rather dashing yet rugged man.
Yet when his eyes sought her own icy blue hues, there was a smirk gracing the crimson lips. She was not a humble woman to shake him away and pretend that she was underserving of this attention, no she kept her head high and gaze serene. Lilith was aware of her value, not everyone would be worthy of doing what he did.
As a reward, forward from her as well, she reaches her free hand solely to brush the back of her fingers against his cheek, something lovers would normally do. Leaning closer not paying too much mind to where they are she does whisper in a low tone.
"How clever of you darling.....rest assured you already have my favor, but can you keep it?"

A Look at Grace
A Look at Grace
“Let your speech always be with grace” (Col 4:6) God’s grace was first revealed after sin entered the world. Though God’s judgment fell upon the first couple (Gen 3:1-19), He also demonstrated grace by promising a future Savior (Gen 3:15), clothing the first sinners (Gen 3:21), and removing them from the garden lest they eat from the tree of life and live forever in a sinful state (Gen 3:22-24).…

The Promise of a Grace Gift
Today's inspiration comes from:
The Promise Code
by O.S. Hawkins
"For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God." — Ephesians 2:8
"'Gift giving and gift receiving are important parts of our own experiences. When birthdays and anniversaries roll around each year, we engage in this traditional pastime. The Bible teaches that when it comes time for gifts, “it is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). The Lord should know. After all, He has given us our greatest gift:
The gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. — Romans 6:23
All the Bible writers were careful to describe eternal life as a free gift and not something that could be earned or deserved. To a Samaritan woman at a well, Jesus declared, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water” (John 4:10). Peter called for repentance on the Day of Pentecost with the promise to his hearers that, “you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:38). James added, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above” (James 1:17). And Paul summed it all up, saying, “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” (2 Corinthians 9:15).
In the Bible promise of this chapter, Paul made plain that a gift has three characteristics. A gift is costly. It costs the giver something to give it. A gift is conditional. It is of no use unless it is received by the one to whom it is intended. And a gift is calculated. Behind the giving of a gift is the desire to benefit and bless the recipient.
Gifts are costly
When we give a gift, it costs us something to do so. But no gift ever cost as much as God’s gift of eternal life. Paul, in our promise, said, “By grace you have been saved,” making plain that the origin of our salvation is found in Him and not in us or any of our human efforts. Salvation is God’s work, provided by His grace, and is not offered in response to any good thing we may have done. It is provided to us wholly because of His grace.
Grace is God’s unmerited and underserved favor toward us. It came at a great price. The Father did not send Jesus to die on the cross to provide the gift of our salvation for us because we kept begging and pleading with Him to do so. It was by His grace alone. Grace can be defined as getting what we don’t deserve. No wonder we call it “amazing.” God’s gift to us came at a high cost, the sacrificial and substitutionary death of His only Son on the cross. Gifts cost us something.
Thanks be the God for His indescribable gift.
Gifts are conditional
What good is a gift you pick out and purchase for someone if they refuse to receive it? Listen to our promise; this gift is received “through faith.” That is it. The gift of God’s grace is conditional on our transferring our faith to Christ alone for our salvation. These words make me want to shout this verse: “Through faith... not of yourselves... the gift of God!” The following verse attests that it is not of works “lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:9). Our faith is the channel through which salvation flows from God to us. It is through faith.
Paul’s repetition of the truth that salvation is “not of ourselves” and “not of works” brings emphasis to his point that it is the “gift of God.” In some other faiths, people do extreme things — even give their lives — in feeble attempts to please their gods and be ushered into Heaven. But it is “by grace... through faith... not of yourselves; it is the gift of God.” God is offering His free gift of eternal life to any and all who will simply believe by faith in Christ alone.
What should amaze us is that although God is offering by His grace this free gift, we still have to encourage and exhort people to receive it. Salvation is God’s work (by grace) in God’s way (through faith). Gift giving is costly. But it is also conditional.
Gifts are calculated
Why do you and I give gifts to those we love? It is because we calculate the fact that it will benefit and bless the one who receives it. Otherwise, why bother? It is the same with God’s gift to us. He gives us salvation to benefit us and to bless us. Paul continued with this promise to say, “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Ephesians 2:10).
When you receive God’s gift of eternal life through faith, you become a new creation, “created in Christ Jesus.” You become His “workmanship.” We derive our English word poem from a transliteration of this Greek word. You are God’s own creation, His own work of art. He so fashioned and formed you that no one else has your specific DNA. You are unique and indescribably valuable to Him.
Think about this the next time you sit around your Christmas tree with your extended family, exchanging gifts. Don’t watch the face of the one opening the gift. Catch a glimpse of the joy on the face of the giver as he or she watches the one they love open the gift. And so it is with God. His gift to us was costly. It is conditional. And it is calculated — to benefit and bless you. Claim this promise — and receive it gladly — through faith.
A promise and a prayer
If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Lord, what more can be said than to join Paul in saying, “Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift”? What a benefit — what a blessing to know You, whom to know is life, not just abundant but eternal. In Jesus’ name, amen."'

Nourishment for Your Soul and Mind: October 11, 2022
We are no longer under the law, but under grace, we have Gods underserved favor resting over us. When you are walking with the favor of God resting on you and the knowledge that you are a King’s kid, your walk changes. The things you do changes. You don’t want to be caught up in sin because you are caught up in things for your Father’s Kingdom. You are a new creation in Him, old things have…

I started the year by reading Ephesians ;
We were all deserves wrath because of our sins. God is Holy and just, He doesn't just look at sin and shake it off. No, sin has punishment it is wrath, it is death and separation from a Holy God.
But because He is rich in mercy, He offered salvation through Jesus Christ. Only by grace meaning it is underserved favor. It is not earned by good works but a gift to be received. :--)

G-d's Minute 15th August 2021
TO EACH ONE OF US GRACE WAS GIVEN ACCORDING
TO THE MEASURE OF CHRIST'S GIFT.
(EPHESIANS 4:7 *NKJV)
We have all heard the Hymn "Amazing Grace," but
did you ever wonder what the word "grace" meant in the
Bible? Well "grace" in the New Testament is the Greek
word [charis] which means underserved acceptance or
favor, as well as, love received from another.
Now let us look at the Grace of God and what it means
to each one of us. It is written; FOR BY GRACE YOU HAVE
BEEN SAVED THROUGH FAITH, AND THAT NOT OF
YOURSELVES; IT IS A GIFT OF GOD.
(EPHESIANS 2:8)
Also the same Grace protects us, comforts us, and
guides us as well, so; LET US THEREFORE COME BOLDLY
TO THE THRONE OF GRACE, THAT WE MAY OBTAIN
MERCY AND FIND GRACE TO HELP IN TIME OF NEED.
(HEBREWS 4:16)
Further, God's Great Love comes to us through His;
Grace; AND WE HAVE KNOWN AND BELIEVED THE
LOVE THAT GOD HAS FOR US. GOD IS LOVE, AND
HE WHO ABIDES IN LOVE ABIDES IN GOD, AND
GOD IN HIM. For after all; WE LOVE HIM BECAUSE HE
FIRST LOVED US. (1 JOHN 4:16 & 19)
So, my prayer for you is to; GROW IN THE GRACE
AND KNOWLEDGE OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS
CHRIST. TO HIM BE THE GLORY BOTH NOW AND
FOREVER. AMEN (2 PETER 3:18)
With My Love & Prayers,
your servant Allen

It took me decades to realize I never understood God's grace, only his mercy. To me, grace was God looking at me - in all of my sin, my apathy, my shame - and saying, "I forgive you. I'll waive the punishment. You may live your life." That's mercy though, not grace. If mercy is underserved forgiveness, grace is undeserved abundance, favor. Grace goes one step farther, saying, "I will do more than forgive. I will enliven you with vibrance and purpose and kindness and joy; I will cherish and uplift and protect and multiply." Grace is excessive. It's unnecessary. It's underserved favor. God doesn't just forgive the villain; he adopts him and entrusts him with the kingdom.

We traveled 11.75 miles this morning after breaking camp in 5-hours! We were a tad motivated to get to Red’s Meadows. As we hiked, we talked about the upcoming luxuries of SHOWERS. REAL FOOD. CELL SERVICE. Among many, one of the things this trail has lended me was to absolutely and constantly be thankful for the little things. As I paid the $15 for 15 minutes of clean water in an actual shower I considered people who do not have this option and how easy it is to take for granted. I couldn’t believe the MUD that rolled off of me and down the drain. Serious filth! Even though I was bathing daily in whatever body of water was available to us each evening, it just didn’t compare to a warm, clean, shower. How much this relates to Jesus! I would’ve paid $100 for this luxury. We laughed! Us girls. We all three went into the shower at the same time, finding three empty stalls and as we plopped our tokens into the coin operated machine and stepped in, we laughed! Hard! We stood under the rush of warm water and felt like pampered princesses and REALLY felt clean! We didn’t shave the entire trip. It was our pact. The feeling of wanting to now was SO incredibly overwhelming. It was part of the journey and being all in. We may be clean princesses but we are hairy! And so was our dude! His facial hair was reaching epic proportion! For me, this shower washed so much more than dirt away. It washed away my bad attitude from the days before, it washed away feelings of guilt over decisions I have made, expectation I’ve placed on myself and ones that have been put there by others, it washed away things I’ve been holding on to that needed desperately to be let go of, past hurts, pride issues, being judged, negative feelings, mistakes, times in my life that I fell apart, fear, the mess of the last year and the dirt of the past…..It all ran down the drain in a puddle.
Red’s Meadows is such a great place. Magical. The gathering place for all wanderers just outside of the beautiful Mammoth Lakes/Devil’s Postpile area. Full of wonderful, backpacking, happy people. It’s no wonder I loved it! (“My People” as my hubs refers to them) We quickly recognized some of our trail family. Those we’ve met along the way, and continue to see on the daily. Leap- frogging along, but always ending up camping alongside each night. Our Sylvanian’s whom we met WAY back on Glen Pass; two buddies hiking together, one of them barefoot. Tony, our dreadlocked farmer, who gave up an organic farm to hike the JMT, and of course the sweet 50th-anniversary couple, Brooks and Rita. We all filtered in little by little to the showers, the Mule House Cafe (that had the BEST cheeseburgers, fries, and fruit pie on the planet, ON THE PLANET!) and little general store that held our resupply. Interestingly enough, none of us rushed for our resupply. We opted instead for a shower, food, beer and hanging in the sunshine talking with other hikers…. in that order. We met Sam, a guy from the UK who is hiking the PCT. He is 3 weeks from finishing his 6-month journey and even though I have suffered some pretty rotten things out on this trail, I yearn for the opportunity to hike the PCT at some point. I was a little jealous. We talked to 2 women hikers from Maine that were having issues with sleeping bags. They were freezing at night and were asking opinions from everyone about new sacks that they were considering purchasing in Mammoth Lakes. We met a group of 4 women hiking together that were sharing a jar of queso dip and chips from the store. HEAVEN! We listened to the stories of fun and laughter, of animals, of heartbreak, of spiritual journeys, of blisters and sprained ankles, of sleeping COLD, of favorite and least favorite passes, the stories of their journeys and what brought them out here in the first place. I was happy to see so many solo-female hikers, and Ladies of the JMT (all of us wearing our blue bandanas on our pack to signify who we were) I was fascinated by these people and their stories and just wanted to take it all in! Sometimes I thought; man we must have a screw loose to do this, to want this, to enjoy (to some extent) the suffering of almost a month in the wilderness. The isolation, being dirty, being in the complete silence, the remoteness…but then I realized…Nah, it’s passion. It’s passion that drives this and every. single. one. of. us. has. a. story.
This was some DANG good coffee!
With our “Sylvakians” Igor (who hiked most of the trail barefoot and Jakob (Jakub)
We picked up our resupplies from the little general store and sifted through the contents. I dug….WAY down to the bottom for my note, but quickly saw that Greg had added a few other goodies to this bucket. A can of Pringle’s (oh sweet Jesus) about 5 lbs of Starburst, blister care items (first aid) and a few bottles of Fire Ball. That man knows exactly what I need even from thousands of miles away and not hearing from me in over 10 days! This would be our last resupply. My last note. The last little bit of correspondence until we finish this out. It excited me as much as it grieved me. It was bittersweet in several aspects and as happy as I was to be finishing up this incredibly, epic experience, I was deeply SO saddened at the same time.
My note to myself.
Paula,
Wild Mama, just because you cried today doesn’t make you weak, Allow the tears to come and wash your spirit clean. You’ve come a long way baby! You’re at Red’s Meadows. Reflect on where you have come from and where you’re heading. Continue to celebrate all that lies within you. God has created in you and adventurer, a lover of nature and of stars and extraordinary views. This is why you’re out here. Breathe it all in. You are stronger than you ever give yourself credit. Keep it up, badass warrior! Thanks be to God. Remember, you planned well and are ready for the next few days to the finish!
And from G.
Look at you, Lady! Wow! Bad-assery in its truest form. Your body is probably a little beat up and tired, but that’s ok. Better this than a lump on the couch. Embrace it all! You can make it this last stretch, dig in and remember, LOOK UP! Hopefully, you remember me at the end of this. I will be the guy standing with a cold beer, a super-soaker, and a razor. Ha-Ha! I love you, G
I roared with laughter as I read this. Along with his funny note, and myriad of additional goodies, he had packed the baggies of my re-packaged dehydrated meals (yes RE-PACKAGED because weight is EVERYTHING when it’s on your back) and had renamed a few for me, which brought some great laughter around our little Jet Boils as we cooked dinner at camp.
We had to say goodbye to Red’s Meadows in the morning and start our way up Donahue Pass. It was hard leaving. We ate an AMAZING breakfast with WAAAAY too much coffee from a pot. Donahue is a big pass with 23-ish miles to the top. It’s long and gradual reaching 11,703 feet. We camped part way up around the Shadow Lake area. We had decided to bite this last section off in chunks. This was a gorgeous camp, with a waterfall right outside my tent door. (and for me, besides sunrises and sunsets, waterfalls rank HIGH up on the food chain of gorgeous-must-sees for me. I LOVE them) I climbed to the top of the falls and spent some alone time with God thanking Him for his creation, for His love for us through his creation. The beauty here and along this entire journey has been unsurpassed. I thanked Him for the opportunity of being out here, for His healing on my feet and body. I thanked Him for my hiking partners and keeping us all healthy (for the most part.) and safe. Out of the four of us, we had one common thread before going into this hike….our dude! K and I knew one another, but not to the depths that we did now. J and I met the day she, K and her hubs picked me up in San Bernardino to head to Lone Pine. Talk about really putting your faith into your hiking partners. So for us to make it this far with only a few small scrapes and bumps along the trail (so to say) I think I was in good company. I was so thankful for their underserved patience, and their inspiration, and kindness. I know we all had days where the raw emotion was high and we wanted to scream at one another, but in the end, we showed love, appreciation, devotion, fortitude, humility, mercy and grace. We showed friendship. I was so grateful for that. Complete and utter favor in the most extreme conditions Their compassion was incredible. I know full well that some days, probably most days, I was deserving of NONE of it!
That one day that J fell and K had to bandage her up with a Maxi-Pad!!
I took a deep breath as I climbed into my tent and into my mummy, the cascading sound of the falls outside the door making me dizzy with relaxation and tiredness. It had started to rain and we all retreated to our tents early. The daylight still lingered. I sat up and re-read the note from G and giggled. He has the greatest way of always making me and those around him laugh! He would love this spot. I cannot believe this journey is almost ending. I didn’t want it to. It had changed me in some pretty profound ways already. What would going home be like? What would matter to me that hadn’t before? What things would I cherish more and what would I no longer need or care to have? Would I want to go home and buy a Tiny House in the woods after living in Big Agnes for the past 3 1/2 weeks? What would I appreciate more and find unnecessary? What would food and water taste like? Different? Possibly. I do know the need to see my family was so colossal. To breathe them in deeply was all I wanted. That, and to lift and inhale the sweet, dirty, earthy, grass-smell of my puppy’s paws. (this is something her and I do several times a day) Those things that on a daily we become so accustomed to, that are so ordinary at times, that never will be again. They just can’t be.

Trump May Suspend H-1B Visas: Trouble Time for Indian Techies?
US President Donald Trump is considering suspending a number of employment visas including the H-1B, the most sought-after among Indian IT professionals, in view of the massive unemployment in America due to the coronavirus pandemic. Such a decision by the Trump administration is likely to have an adverse impact on thousands of Indian IT professionals. Already a large number of Indians on the H-1B visas have lost their jobs and are headed back home during the coronavirus pandemic.
Suspension of H1B, other visas
In addition to the H-1B visas, Trump is reportedly planning to suspend the H-2B visa for short-term seasonal workers, the J-1 visa for short-term workers including camp counselors and au pairs and the L-1 visa for internal company transfers. According to US official data, 2,75,000 H-1B visa applications were received for FY21 alone.
The proposed suspension could extend into the government’s new fiscal year beginning October 1, when many new visas are issued, according to a report by The Wall Street Journal.
“That could bar any new H-1B holder outside the country from coming to work until the suspension is lifted, though visa holders already in the country are unlikely to be affected,” the website reported.
Meanwhile, the US Chambers of Commerce CEO Thomas Donohue on Thursday wrote a letter to Trump, expressing concern over his reported move on temporary work visas. According to The Hill newspaper, Donohue said that American businesses need L-1 visa holders, who have a work visa valid for a relatively short amount of time, for necessary expertise.
He noted the importance of H-1B visa holders, who have a work visa valid for multiple years, for various industries, including technology, accounting and manufacturers, the newspaper said.
Setback for Indian Professionals
Technology and IT services companies primarily in India are often accused of replacing American workers by bringing in lower-paid employees from other countries. In the last four years, the Donald Trump administration has tightened rules for issue of H-1B visas, which has increased denial rates to as much as 30% for visa applicants, besides favoring US technology companies for the work permit.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services earlier extended a grace period of 60 days for H1-B visa holders who were laid off, in a big relief to hundreds of Indian techies stranded in the US right now. Many skilled professionals from the IT industry who were laid off in the current wave of unemployment have been asked to either leave the country or find a suitable job within the period.
US’ loss is Canada’s gain
While the US is losing out on Indian talent, its neighbor is making strides. According to an analysis of government data by the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) the share of Indian students in Canada more than doubled between the academic years 2016-17 and 2018-19 thanks to the more restrictive visa policy by the Donald Trump administration.
Canada is benefiting from a diversion of young Indian tech workers from US destinations, largely because of the challenges of obtaining and renewing H-1B visas and finding a reliable route to US permanent residence.
Moreover, Canada allows permanent residents to apply for citizenship after six years. Indian permanent residents admitted into the country jumped up over 117% between fiscal years 2016 and 2019, NFAP found.
A wait and watch approach
The White House, however, said that no final decision has been made and the administration is considering various proposals.
“The administration is currently evaluating a wide range of options, formulated by career experts, to protect American workers and job seekers especially disadvantaged and underserved citizens — but no decisions of any kind have been made,” White House spokesman Hogan Gidley said in a statement.
Nonetheless, the move to temporarily suspend the H1B visas will be unprecedented for the Indian IT/ ITes sector that heavily rely on these visas for many of their contracts within US. The industry needs to adopt a wait-and-watch policy to see the results of the 2020 US elections that is likely to have an impact on the visa policies. If at all such a law is passed, it will trigger a new wave of recruitment by Indian IT firms within the US in short term.

Gifted child, how do you approach God?
Meditate on This:
Dear Gifted Child,
Do you approach God with confidence and praise, giving Him worship for all the good things He has done for you?
Do you thank Him for His goodness and His mercy that endures forever?
confidence — faith or conviction
When you approach God with confidence or conviction, His mercy and grace are extended to you.
mercy — compassion or forgiveness
grace — the unmerited or underserving favor of God
In other words, His forgiveness and His underserving favor are extended to you.
In Him we have redemption (salvation) through His blood; we have the forgiveness of our sins, in accordance with the riches of God's grace.
Whatever your need is today, approach God with confidence and bring your needs to Him.
He sacrificed His life for you, so what can you bring to Him that He would not address?
Believe in the work He did on the cross, and win your victories.
Approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that you may receive mercy and find grace to help us in your time of need.
PRAY: Thank You Lord for your grace, Your mercy and Your help in time of need. Thank You Lord for your grace that is keeping me on the right path. In Jesus’ name Amen.
CONFESS: I will draw from the fountain of grace.
READ: Hebrews 4:16; Ephesians 1:7
• Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy find grace to help us in our time of need.
• He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.
Pastor Patricia L. Joseph
