The thing that I’ve never understood about whimsigoth is that it really just isn’t part of overarching goth aesthetic and shouldn’t be included. It’s focused on a completely different aesthetic framework and bases its entire appeal on things looking old and mismatched as being goth when that’s so not it. For that matter, Cracker Barrel is whimsigoth. A dime museum is whimsigoth. Your grandma’s house with wallpaper that hasn’t been changed since the 70s. Goth isn’t whimsical. It’s raw and meant to be sharp around the edges. I just never understood why it was included in the “goth” umbrella when nothing could be further from the truth. Also I just find it tacky.
