“[Record executives] were saying, ‘now, look, radio stations are having all these polls done in the street to find out what constitutes a hit single and they’ve decided a hit single is a song of love gained or lost directed at 14-to-20-year-olds.’ And I said, ‘Shit, what chance does that give me?’” - George Harrison (on recording fewer albums from the early 1980s on; and the five-year gap between Gone Troppo and Cloud Nine), Creem Magazine, December 1987/January 1988
“I don’t see it like I’m making a comeback; I’ve always laughed at that — making a comeback. Because I haven’t been anywhere, and I’m not going anywhere. My attitude is better now, too. It doesn’t matter. I think within my own limitations I’ve tried my best, and Jeff [Lynne]’s done his best to help me, and by him being there I think he’s got more out of me than if I’d done it on my own. The record company is pleased with the record, and they’ll give it their best shot. It’s done. If people like it [‘Cloud Nine’], and they get to hear it, they’ll buy it. And if they don’t, it’s a shame, but, you know, we continue to exist whether we’re cool and groovy or not.” - George Harrison, Guitar Player, November 1987 (x)

I was at Ringo birthday this morning while gone troppo posting was on annnnnnnd I just want to say that gone troppo is the album of all time and such a key part of George’s personality and legacy and career to me. the fact he made the album he wanted to based on the things he cared about at that time and it has the love song for Olivia and for Dhani on it and all his goofin and songs with guest lead singers and everything else and his movie soundtrack song. and he didn’t promote it and it barely sold and he didn’t care and I love him for it

george harrison’s discography rated by me [part 4/4]
10) gone troppo - 1982
i just found out that gone troppo is an australian expression meaning “gone mad due to tropical heat” i love that because i can relate. it really has a beachy vibe. it is happier than other albuns, but not exactly better.
⭐⭐/5
11) cloud nine - 1987
george’s last work while he was alive. I like it better than the previous one. good songs to listen to while driving. got my mind set on you is a great song (it’s a cover song, i may point out).
⭐⭐⭐/5
12) brainwashed - 2002
his final work has a good vibe. congrats to dhani and jeff lynne as well. george’s voice is so sweet and optimistic here. he was in peace.
⭐⭐⭐/5

My fave story about this song is the claim made in the documentary An Accidental Studio that part of the lyrics to this song are producer's notes to Terry Gilliam about the troubled production of Time Bandits:
Greedy feeling wheeling dealing
Losing what you won
See the dream come undone
Stumble you may with the elementary
Lucky you got so far
All you owe is apologies
Measure the mystery and astound
Without taking up time
So the handiworks remain there
Only a dream away...
George Harrison - Dream Away (Time Bandits closing theme)

“My dad’s favorite number was 7, and a lot of things that he did were according to the number 7, whether he meant it or not. That was the highest honor I could have given a track on the album [Brainwashed], to put it track 7.” - Dhani Harrison, Brainwashed EPK
Track no. 7 series: “Unknown Delight” —
“There’s a song he wrote about our son when he was born that I really love, and it’s become a favorite. It’s called ‘Unknown Delight’ and it’s on the Gone Troppo album.” - Olivia Harrison, NPR, March 2004
“Of course, one of my favorites on [Gone Troppo] is ‘Unknown Delight.’ He was saying, ‘What should I write about? What should I write a song about?’ I said, ‘Write a song about Dhani.’ And he wrote this beautiful song which was very prescient actually.” - Olivia Harrison, Dark Horse Radio, November 2018 (x)

Welcome to this years Valentines Day posts! (if I don't post smth else tmrw (it's 1am it's technically still today) that I get the idea for) The idea is simple: the TikTok trend of screaming loving things in an angry voice and different language at your S/O! And since I want to, it'll be in Italian, with not 1! BUT 2 CHARACTERSSS That's right, both Show Simon, as well as Wayne are getting one! :D Without further ado, here's Wayne!
All kept gender-neutral
You had invited Wayne along to your annual family get-together, as per your parents request, because your family that lived away wanted to meet him
Thing is, your extended family is from Italy, mom's side specifically, and the older the relatives get, the less English they understand. Most of them only know Italian.
Wayne, however, does not.
You've taught him the very basics, like hello, thank you, goodbye, but it's infinitely harder when your relatives speak as fast as Auctioners.
So you act as the main translator for the day. Not that you mind, of course, you knew this was gonna happen
What you didn't expect, was one of your cousins to come up to you while you're with your mom, grandma and aunt and tells you you have to try something right now
They then show you a video of someone screaming very loving things in an angry voice at their partners. You immediately know what they mean, and everyone in the room supports you.
You decide to do it away from your family, though, since you don't want to make him uncomfortable, so you wait until most of them are gone and you're both sitting outside on a bench together, cuddled up
"È solo che ti amo così tanto!" ("I just love you so much!") You say, not too loud but still with an 'angry' tone
Wayne gets a little tense, and you feel a little bad
"Mi rendi così felice che è incredibile." ("You make me so happy it's unbelievable") you say, calmer this time. He's less tense, but still just as confused. But his face is too cute to stop
"Did I do something?" he asks
"Sei così carino, ecco cosa stai facendo!" ("You're looking this cute that's what you're doing!") you put your hands on his cheeks and smush them a little
"Dio, voglio solo baciarti tutto il tempo" ("God, I just want to kiss you all the time") and you do, which he accpets but it still confuses him
"Sei semplicemente troppo carino! Non voglio mai lasciarti andare!" ("You're just too cute! I don't ever want to let you go!")
He takes your hands off his cheeks and takes a breath, then very shakily and usure says "Ti.... amo... tanto....? Is that right?" ("I love you a lot")
You almost die of cuteness right there
"Oh my god that's adorable! Ti amo di più Tesoro!" ("I love you more, honey!") you throw your arms around him
He smiles and blushes "Your mom taught me that."
He then reaches into his pocket. "Your cousin told me to tell you this, but I don't think I can. What does it say?" he hands you a piece of paper
'Tell her: dovresti insegnarmi di più stasera ;)'
You don't have the heart to tell him what it means
The last one you can look up yourself ;) Happy Valentine's Day everyone ❤️

La Principessa Addormentata Papa IV x FemReader Rating: T tags: mostly sfw, cuddles, daddy dom papa, established relationship, fluff, google translated italiano 800 words
summary: Copia returns to his papal chambers late one night to find his principessa asleep on the lounge after trying to wait up all night for him
I wrote this last night at midight and it's mostly unedited, sorry. I was feeling a type of way. I might expand it later and turn it into a proper fic another day. This is the same universe as this fic and this one
“Principessa?”
You open your eyes slowly to see Copia standing above you, the low light of the room made his painted face look eerie—but it doesn't frighten you, instead, it's a welcome sight. You’d been waiting up for him for hours. At first, it had been easy; a little studying before you had put the demonic textbooks aside and swapped them for much more enjoyable books. After showering and getting comfortable in your nightgown, you had sat on the lounge reading. When your eyes had become heavy, you had told yourself you would just shut them for a moment, your novel still held in one hand as it rested against your chest.
But you must have fallen asleep—and how could you not? It was so cosy in his papal suite with the warm fire and the comfortable lounge. The flames had tickled your cheeks and the crackling of the burning logs had lulled you into a hazy place of dreamless rest.
“Papa?” you say, voice heavy with sleep as you gaze up at him.
He smiles down at you, a gloved hand reaching out and brushing a stray lock of hair from your face. The firelight flickers over his jewelled vestments and you note how his hair is a little mussed from wearing the mitre.
“It’s very late, I am sorry,” he says, slowly shrugging out his vestments and placing them on a nearby armchair, revealing the black suit underneath. “You should have gone to bed.”
You shake your head lazily, unable to stifle a yawn. “But I was waiting for you."
The sound of his low chuckle makes you smile, you eyes closing when he leans over you and places a kiss on your temple. Your smile spreads into a giddy grin and he places another kiss on your forehead before his fingers wipe at where he has kissed you—clearly trying to remove the black marks he has left behind.
“Sei troppo dolce, mia piccola principessa,” he says, his arms sliding under you so he can pick you up, cradling your head against his chest. “Time for bed.”
You try to protest, surely you are too heavy for him but he clearly doesn’t seem to struggle as he moves you with ease towards his bedroom. While the smell of the fire and the incense you had been burning earlier had been delightful, nothing could compare to the smell of your Papa and you nuzzle closer, deeply breathing him in. His suit jacket is smooth against your skin and you can hear, and feel, the steady beat of his heart. Ever so gently he places you on the bed, helping to lift the covers up so you can slide in.
The sheets are far too cool and you curl up instantly on your side, your head burying into the soft pillow. You can hear him moving about—the sound of him undressing, and then the shower turning on. His little hums as he sings to himself merely aid you in feeling sleepy again. It was always so comforting having him near, and the domestic sound of him getting ready for bed always made you smile. How quickly you had learned his little routines. He didn’t like hot showers, though they were always so long, and he insisted on using two towels—one around his waist and another to go over his shoulders, he always said he got cold after getting out. You must drift back to sleep as you jolt when you feel the mattress dip and open your eyes to find the room completely dark. Warm arms wrap around you, pulling you close against his bare chest—the hair there still a little damp.
“You use two towels yet you don’t dry yourself properly,” you mumble, though you make no effort to move away from him.
He doesn’t say anything, instead, he just pulls you closer so your back is completely pressed against his chest—you can feel that he’s dampened your nightgown. When he presses his face against your neck you feel water dropping onto your skin from his wet hair.
“Copia, you’re making me wet,” you whine half-heartedly, wiping at the droplets he has dripped on your neck.
“I hope so, principessa,” he says, pressing himself against you—you can feel his cock hardening against your ass.
You shake your head, though you can’t help but smile in the darkness. “You said bedtime.”
His mouth presses a kiss against your neck and you shiver. He does it again, his mouth hot and hitting that sensitive patch of skin behind your ear. You can't help but sigh in pleasure at the feel of it, feeling less sleepy with each touch of his lips on your skin.
“Si,” he murmurs in between another kiss, “I said bedtime.” The arm he has over you shifts, his hand moving down your side and skating over your hip. “But not time to sleep, principessa.”

Reverse unpopular opinion: their solo careers
John: Not a single album cover miss. took multiple huge risks. underrated as a producer. Zingers galore. Much more of a softie-songwriter than he's remembered as. Writes a good hopeless song. I think about Double Fantasy and Plastic Ono Band daily.
Paul: Everything by him I've listened to has had something interesting to discover. so many of his songs are in my regular circulation. most of his albums flow incredibly well. much funnier in music than he's usually given credit for. Band On The Run is a perfect album tbh.
George: Also funnier that he's usually given credit for. The slide guitar on My Sweet Lord is balm for my soul. Extra Texture and Gone Troppo are underrated!! I really like a lot of his dissonant chords. Harmonically, a lot of his songs really tug at my heart strings. I love that he wrote a song about the guy who owned his weird castle.
Ringo: I actually quite enjoy Ringo's voice. It's rich and conversational, it actually emphasizes lyrics a lot. Rotogravure is kinda underrated tbh (also great album cover). Six O'Clock fucks. (thank you Paul & Linda) Also his drumming on Tug Of War fucks if that counts.
