As proof of the increasing appeal his engagements have continued to generate nationwide, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has again received massive support for his presidential bid, this time in Gombe State.
Notably, on his visit to the State on Monday, in continuation of his engagements with delegates and stakeholders of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Osinbajo received the endorsement of Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, and the blessings of the Emir of Gombe, HRH, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, as well as stakeholders in the State.

Prof. Osinbajo later moved to the Palace of the Emir of Gombe, HRH, Alhaji Abubakar Shehu Abubakar, where he intimated the monarch of his aspiration to become President, soliciting his prayers and support.
Speaking during the visit to the Palace, Governor Yahaya assured the Vice President of support from the State, pledging also his personal commitment to the VP’s presidential aspiration.
Welcoming Prof. Osinbajo to the State, Governor Yahaya said, "today is yet another remarkable occasion, because on many occasions, the Vice President has been coming to the State as Vice President; but this time around, he has come to interact with our delegates preparatory to the primaries of our ruling party, the APC, and it is a convention that will produce him, by the Grace of God, as the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
"Gombe is home to you, sir, for so many reasons, and looking at the dynamics... it is you that this cap fits squarely; nobody can doubt that. And I make bold to say that these people, that you see in the traditional (regalia) and on the government side, and the crowd outside, are really committed to seeing that you actualise this ambition by becoming the President of Nigeria, by God’s grace.
"We are patriotic, we want this country to progress so that we get to the level we want to attain. And, with you in charge, by God's grace, we shall reach the destination," the Governor added.
On his part, the Monarch expressed gratitude to President Muhammadu Buhari for his leadership and sacrifice in dealing with the challenges facing the country, assuring the Emirate’s continued support and prayers for his administration.
Similarly, the Emir of Gombe thanked the VP for the visit, noting that it "outlines the strength of friendship that exist between your office and the people of Gombe State."
Commending Prof. Osinbajo for his contributions to the successes recorded by the Buhari administration, he noted that “as the Vice President, you have been part of the success of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in your role as Chairman of the National Economic Council; and in many other roles, including that of acting president, you have left indelible marks in the annals of this country.
"In your interventions in the areas of economic policies, MSMEs, Ease of Doing Business, social investments and many other areas, you have left a lasting impact on our people.
"You have maintained a track record of excellent integrity as an accomplished legal luminary, religious leader and now, a politician. It is that attribute that endears you to many Nigerians across ethnic and religious persuasions. We, therefore, pray for your continuous success in all your endeavours.
“We don't doubt your achievements as vice president were made possible because of the level of trust and confidence that Mr. President bestows on you.”

All About Dussehra and The Stories Behind The Festival
Tumblr media
Vijayadashami/Dussehra/Dasara/Dashain is a one of the major festivals celebrated primarily by Hindus in India and Nepal and falls on the tenth day which marks the end of the 9 day Navratri period. It is celebrated for various reasons across various parts of the country but the festival largely commemorates the victory of Good over Evil. On the occasion on Dussehra 2021, let us learn some of the major folklore based on which this auspicious day is celebrated by Indians everywhere!
Ramayana: According to the story of Ramayana, Ravana kidnaps Sita and takes her to his kingdom in Lanka (present day Sri Lanka). Rama asks Ravana to release her, but Ravana refuses. After performing severe penance for ten thousand years, Ravana receives a boon from the creator-god Brahma; he could henceforth not be killed by gods, demons, or spirits. Lord Vishnu incarnates as the human Rama to defeat and kill him, thus circumventing the boon given by Lord Brahma. A deadly and fierce battle takes place between Rama and Ravana in which Rama kills Ravana. Ravana has ten heads; the killing of one who has ten heads is called Dusshera. Finally, Dharma was established on the Earth because of Rama's victory over Ravana.
Vijayadashami: also marks the end of Durga Puja, remembering goddess Durga's victory over the buffalo demon Mahishasura to restore and protect religious and moral duties which is widely celebrated in the Eastern part of India.
Tumblr media
In the West, especially in Gujarat, people gather and perform every evening of Navaratri period to music with the local ’Garba’ dance and lots of food and sweets. People dress in traditional and colorful attire and celebrate into the night.
Tumblr media
In the East, Durga Pujo is the most awaited festival of the year and is marked by dancing, food, pandal hopping and revelry. It is also a ten day festival in which there are thousands of clay scultptures of Durga and other Gods that are placed across cities and towns on stages called pandals.
Tumblr media
Source: Wikipedia
In the South, the Gombe Habba or Golu sees miniatures of Gods and other objects placed on steps at homes of people as a way to celebrate the event. The Mysore Dasara event is considered the most sought after event in the country celebrated amidst the royalty of the Mysore palace with guns, horses and elephants that people throng from across the world to see!
Tumblr media
While the festival varies in the way it is commemorated across the country, there is significant relation to education and learning on the occasion. A notable tradition of several South Indian regions has been the dedication of this festival to Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of knowledge, learning, music and arts. She is worshipped, along with instruments of one's trade during this festival. In South India, people maintain, clean and worship their instruments, tools of work, books and implements of their livelihood during this festival, remembering Goddess Saraswati and Durga. Kids who are starting school are admitted to their new school on Vijayadashami day as the day is considered an auspicious day for new beginnings including buying a new house or vehicle.
Although the celebrations this year will remain muted on the backdrop of the COVID pandemic and precautions required in its wake, we wish that the spirit of the festival is remembered and practiced with utmost fervor in the safety of our homes with family and friends.
Practically wishes all of you a happy Dussehra!

Dussehra Festival
The festival that signifies the triumph of good over evil, Dussehra, is one of the most noteworthy Indian festivals. It is fall on the tenth day of Navaratri. This festival is celebrated to commemorate the victory of Lord Rama over the demon Ravana. This holy festival is the occasion to hold in the highest regards, the virtues of Lord Rama, who is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Vishnu (The ‘Presever’ god in Hindu Trinity). Dussehra strengthens the vows of devotees to follow the path and deeds of Lord Rama.
Amazing fact is that Dussehra is celebrated in different states in distinctive manner. In North India, Dussehra is normally celebrated by flaming the effigies of Ravana, Meghanatha and Kumbhakarna. With this burning, the play Ramleela, displaying the story of Ramayana, also comes to an end. Generally, a fete is also organized for the people. Three individuals enacting Rama, Lakshamana and Sita sitting on a chariot, pass through the crowd. The artist performing Rama’s role aims the arrow in order to burn all the three effigies separately. In South India, on this festive day, toys and dolls are decorated in all the houses. This ritual had commenced from the abode of emperors in erstwhile era. This day is popular as Gombe Habba in South India. In olden times, Dussehra was limited to the well-off people. However, it gained regard with time and reached to the common people as well. In Gujarat, the people assemble and dance on each night during Navaratri. Several competitions are held on the Dussehra festival and men and women perform a unique Gujarati dance ‘Garba’ on devotional songs. This dance continues till late night. In various places, this dance continues even till the break of dawn. Women put on their best clothes and decorate earthen pots wonderfully. In Mysore, several fairs and cultural performances are organized. The grand parade of bedecked elephants and guards sitting on a horseback, escort the idol of Goddess through the city. This parade is the major highlight of the ten-day celebration of Dussehra in Mysore. In Kullu, chariots are decorated with amazing hues. Goddess deities are taken around on these beautiful chariots and people dance with joy and elation to rejoice the festive day of Dussehra.

Umahi stated this on Tuesday, January 15, while distributing 70 Hilux-operational vehicles to various security agencies in the state, NAN reports. He said that the exercise which was heavily misconstrued by some people, has recorded no incidences of infractions, quarrel or torture, among others.
”I believe that with the pedigree of the General Officer Commanding the 82 Division of the Nigerian Army, his commandant and officers, we would continue to shame our enemies. ”We are brothers and sisters across the Niger and no level of enmity wished by the enemies will help the country.
Let us embrace love to engender oneness as this is the only way Nigeria would continue to remain as a nation.” The governor berated groups in the southeast zone which declared that they would participate in the general elections to vote against him.
”I ask of the need to conduct governorship elections in the state considering what God has done but I will not fold my hands and watch uninformed Ebonyi people continue being killed.
”When the military was confronted at Umuahia, 90 per cent of those that died were Ebonyians and one person was busy talking about his dog that died. ”Ebonyi people would never experience a second colonisation and no other group exists in the state but our people who are determined to re-write their history.
We would continue to collaborate with the federal government and security agencies to rid our state of criminals to sustain its rating as the safest state in the zone.”
He said that the vehicles were distributed to appreciate and complement the efforts of security agencies in the state and particularly praised the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
”The NSCDC has formed the backbone of intelligence gathering and collaborates effectively with the police by demobilising and handing over criminals.
”The police would be allotted 30 vehicles, the army 4 Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of zone 6, 2 vehicles, GOC 82 Division, 2, State Security Service 3,

Indian puppetry is a subject as varied as the many cultural traditions of the Indian subcontinent. Several regional genres make puppetry one of the richest heritages of India. Though there is enormous diversity, there are common traits. The origin of puppetry in India cannot be dated, but mythology provides at least two stories that are witness to the importance of this art, even if they don’t give any historical data. According to one legend, the creator Brahma gave life to the adi, the first nat puppeteer, and created the first puppet for the entertainment of his wife Saraswati. Not satisfied with his work, Brahma banished the puppeteer to earth, starting the line of nat bhatt puppeteers. This legend applies most probably to the Rajasthani tradition, nat bhatt being the name of the puppeteer cast from this region (Sarma and Singh 2010:35). An alternative legend has as protagonist the god Shiva, patron of puppetry, and his wife Parvati. An artisan manufactured two wooden dolls that captured the attention of Parvati—the goddess and his divine companion entered the dolls and started an exquisite dance; and when they got sick of this play they abandoned the dolls and the artisan was very sad at his dolls being lifeless again. With the help and blessings of the gods, the artisan then invented a system of strings to move the dolls, and so puppetry was born (Chattopadhyay 1995 (1975):159). Divine origin of puppetry is stressed in both stories, and this testifies the importance of puppetry in India. Nowadays, traditional puppetry is regarded as a folk art typical of the rural environment—in the past it was taken into high consideration in the urban elite and among the nobles (Baird 1965:46). Further evidence of the link of puppetry with the highest social groups is in the attestation of the word gombe, meaning puppet, used as a surname for Brahmin families in the southern regions (Tilakasiri 1969:21).
