Bustle dress, 1877-1882

Cotton overdress possibly worn by pregnant woman, white with floral print, princess style front with deep box pleats place at waist, long fitted sleeves, high neckline with no collar, fuller at hips, but fitted in vertical strips from neckline to hem with no horizontal waist seam. Back is gored closely to figure and has extra fullness at sides creating a polonaise effect, curved hemline, probably worn over a bustle, Fabric print in Rocco style of ribbon and floral vine design in shades of blue, red and pink, underskirt missing.
