as spencer waves goodbye to shay, he heads down the bustling hallway toward his next class—ap physics.

the corridor is alive with chatter and movement, but his thoughts are preoccupied with one person: miles.

with each step, spencer finds himself smiling, his mind replaying the playful exchange from earlier.

he chuckles to himself, remembering how miles had teased him about his chemistry notes, making some offhand remark about spencer's "loving attention to detail" being a bit much.

spencer shakes his head, the grin still tugging at his lips. "he's so dumb," he mutters, the warmth in his chest spreading as he walks.

when spencer finally enters the physics classroom, he spots miles already seated at one of the lab tables.

the tables are set up for group work, each accommodating four students. him and miles share theirs with goldi nahir and tiny bell.

spencer can't help but roll his eyes affectionately as he approaches, the corner of his lips twitching in a grin.

mr. moore, their physics teacher, walks in, a friendly smile on his face. he immediately starts writing equations on the board. "alright, class, today we're diving into newton's laws of motion. get ready to pair up for some hands-on experiments."

miles glances sideways at spencer, a mischievous smirk dancing on his lips. "ready to see who's really got the brains in this relationship, donovan?"

spencer rolls his eyes but can't suppress the smile that creeps onto his face. "you mean ready to teach you a thing or two, hollingsworth? always."

goldi turns to tiny with a resigned sigh. "i guess that means it's just us again." she's used to the dynamic between miles and spencer, their constant bickering a regular part of her day.

mr. moore, well aware of the duo's knack for balancing each other out, hands out worksheets with problems related to newton's laws. he also sets them up for an experiment involving a pulley system and weights. as the students begin to set up their stations, miles fumbles slightly with the equipment, his usual confidence wavering in the face of spencer's quiet expertise.

"need a hand there, hollingsworth?" spencer's voice is steady and calm as he steps in, his fingers brushing against miles' as he adjusts the weights.

miles grins, stepping closer and wrapping his arms around spencer's waist, leaning in so that his breath lightly brushes against spencer's ear. "i'm more of a hands-on learner, you know."

spencer's cheeks flush slightly, his heart racing at the close proximity. he tries to maintain his composure despite the fluttering in his chest. "just pay attention, miles," he replies, his voice wavering a bit despite his attempt at steadiness.

with spencer's guidance, they manage to get the experiment working perfectly. the pulley system operates smoothly, the weights moving up and down with precise control.

miles can't help but feel a surge of satisfaction at their success. mr. moore walks by, nodding in approval. "excellent work, you two. see? collaboration always yields the best results." he also praises tiny and goldi for their work.

miles turns to spencer with a cheeky grin. "looks like you're the brains of this operation. maybe i should get a tutor."

spencer raises an eyebrow, playing along. "oh? and what areas might that tutor cover?"

miles leans in slightly, his fingers grazing spencer's arm. "i think i've got the basic flirting down. but i could always use a study partner in, say, french?"

spencer's eyes widen slightly as he catches the implication. "you're fluent in french, idiot."

miles smirks, his tone playful. "oh, i know. but it never hurts to practice, right?"

spencer shakes his head, a small smile tugging at his lips. "you're insufferable."

as the bell rings, signaling the end of the period, spencer and miles reluctantly begin to pack up. miles glances at spencer with a mock-serious expression. "don't miss me too much."

spencer chuckles, slinging his backpack over his shoulder. "don't make me laugh, hollingsworth."

with that, they part ways—miles heading off to ap world history and spencer making his way to honors english.
