Haunted by a fantasy world where "adventurer" is handled in the same way as "assassin" in John Wick. An ifykyk secondary economy running on gold coins where everyone knows each other but no one acknowledges the elephant in the room because we have manners about our weird-ass line of deadly desperate dangerous work.

Rolling into town, looking immaculate. Checking into the Inn. Not an inn, or the coaching house, or the traveler's hostel. The Inn. The one that takes my ridiculous oversized coin and says that my room is ready, and will I need to visit the Smith today? Perhaps a meeting with the Vintner? Shall I send up the Gourmand?

"Good afternoon, Master Whicke," the Smith says, putting aside the barrel scraper he's been working on to flip a switch beside the forge. Racks of tenpenny nails and trowels and hammers fold back to reveal the glittering points and edges of a score of swords and axes and spearpoints lit with the flicker of finely-tuned enchantments. "Shall we tour what's new?"

"What sort of occasion are we hosting, Master Whicke?" The Vintner asks, pocketing the coin with a sigh. "A funeral," you say.

"Ah, well perhaps something light to start, then," she says selecting a straight-walled flask that glitters with contained starlight, proof against the touch of the undead. " And something for remembrance," she plucks a small crock of something evil-smelling and phosphorescent. "And then something to really bring down the house." She gingerly selects a double ampoule of energetic looking jellies.

The Gourmand carefully runs his knife through the salted flank of a cockatrice with a pursing of the lips. "So many neglect trail rations, Master Whicke, and it is their shame. Paired with goldenwheat pancakes and carrion honey, a mouthful of cockatrice--properly seasoned of course--will keep the mummy rot at bay, even post-exposure. I have been given to indicate by the Management that your current escapade may make such information useful to you. I will of course wrap your purchases exceedingly carefully. Rot will be your constant companion in the Black Pyramid."

Winter has begun in the Adelaide Hills. The crockpot is full of vegies and there is pearl barley soaking ready for tonight's soup. My Open fire is blazing, and the bread dough is proofing in the warmth next to it. I will be making my bread in my dented old bread tin, but imagine putting this loaf dish down on the table decorated with golden ears of wheat, with a fresh loaf out of the oven in it. I adore the dextranatious scent of the flour and the yeast reacting to form bread. It seems there is nothing more inviting than the smell of bread in the oven.

For just $56.00 This creamer & sugar set is very interesting. The blanks are definitely from the Homer Laughlin Golden Wheat. However, the pattern on them is not the same. It appears to be 22K gold. The rare couple of pieces I have found while researching with this exact wheat pattern, claim them as Homer Laughlin Golden Wheat. I honestly don't know. Handled lidded sugar has the gold wheat design on one side. The creamer has it on both sides. Beautiful condition. Nice Large sizes. The creamer holds 9 ounces. Please see all pictures as they are a part of the description. Please read all measurements as the pictures can be deceiving in relation to size. High guardian spice rewrite: Meeting Slime boy

(We see Anise, Aloe, Sage, and Rosemary sitting in a tavern, Anise keeps slamming the table, and Rosemary is looking around in wonder while sage is fidgeting in her seat)

Anise: Come ON! What does a berserker have to do to get drink around here?

Aloe: Anise, please keep it down, you’re going to disturb the patrons.

Anise: Aloe, it’s a tavern, nobody here is keeping it down. If anything I gotta keep it up!

Aloe: Well if you INSIST on taking them to a tavern of all places, can you please AT LEAST try to set an example for the girls?

Anise: Oh COME ON Ally, the ole Goldenwheat tavern is one of, if not THE best eatery in town, it’d be a crime not to show it to Rosemary! Besides, Sage and Rose are old enough to know what alcohol is.

(Sage looks up, and gives a fake smile, she’s clearly uncomfortable. Feeling somewhat overstimulated by the strong smells of cheap booze and noise of the patrons, but she doesn’t want to speak up. Rosemary however, is having a ball)

Rosemary: Yeah! I’ve never been in a tavern before! I wanna go look around!

(Rosemary gets up from her, seat, but she steps in something slimy, or someONE)

Pile of goo: OW!

Rosemary: Oh, I’m sorr- wait, did that slime puddle just talk? Also I swear it wasn’t here before!

Anise (Smirking): That’s not just ANY slime puddle. GET ON UP HERE SLIME BOI!

(The puddle congeals into a human form, groaning the entire way. The form is a teenage boy with dark green, gelatinous hair, and he’s wearing a tavern uniform. He has eye bags made of grime, whether that’s just slime or from actual exhaustion is unclear, but it’s likely a mix of both.)

Slime boy (Completely deadpan) : Of course, as soon as I get a break, YOU show up.

Anise : I know! Awesome coincidence right? 

Slime boy (Sarcastically): Yeah, just like how a village settling on top of a cave system that a hungry dragon lives in is an “awesome coincidence” So are you gonna order your 50 million beers or can I be spared today?

Rosemary: Woah! A real slime person! What’s your name? Are you magic? Do you have a-

Sage: R-rosemary...

Rosemary: Oh right, boundaries. Sorry! It’s just that no slime people lived back at the village, and your my first one!

Slime boy (Sarcastically deadpan): Oh wow, really? I couldn’t tell.

Anise: Rosemary, Sage, this is Slime boy! AKA the best waiter in the Goldenwheat Tavern! 

Slime boy: You say that like it’s an achievement.

Anise: And he’s humble too! 

Slime boy: I really wish I could tell whether you’re trying to annoy me or you legit can’t pick up on how much I hate you.

Aloe: Young man! You shouldn’t talk to my wife like that!

Anise: Oh don’t worry Al, we go back and fourth like this all the time. (She turns to Slime boy) And to answer your question slimy, It’s both! ;)

Slime boy (grumbling): Of course.

Rosemary: Sooooo why do they call you slime boy? Besides the whole slime person thing?

(Slime boy looks at Rosemary with a dumbfounded “Is this bitch for real?” face): Yes. It goes back to ancient times. It comes from “Slime” meaning “To get” and “Boy” meaning “Shat on by the fucking universe”.

Rosemary (confused, but curious): Really?

Slime boy: No. It’s cause I’m made of Slime and I’m a boy. Because humans are soooooooo creative. It’s not much better than my real name: “Kelp”. but it saves the trouble of having to explain to mouth breathers that just because my name is Kelp doesn’t mean I’m from the damn sea.

Anise: Alright, enough backstory. Slimy! I’ll take only two beers today! Gotta set a good example and all that.

Slime boy (sarcastically deadpan, just wanting to get this over with): Wow, showing less then basic restraint, you really are aunt of the year.

What was their life before the crash?

For cider and barley, it was a great childhood. Their gaster, whiskey, was middle aged when he met Carmen, a bright eyed lady who wanted to try and sell equipment to the monsters. She didn’t really sell anything, but she did fall hard for whiskeys gentle nature and they quickly married and soul bonded. 15 years later they had cider and 4 years after that came barley.

Cider and barley were both active and curious kids. Carmen put her foot down after barley turned 10, so no siblings in the future. It’s not like the goldenwheat family doesn’t already have dozens of cousins around their age to spare

Cider and barley had a peaceful childhood with two loving parents and lots of cousins and other kids in their area to play with. There was some pressure to join the family business which cider had no problem with. Barley left for the city hoping to take off as a song writer, but he never really got popular and wound up moving back to join the brewery instead. They’re both happy
