Builders' Tea
for reasons, I occasionally receive updates from an Englishman who is restoring a Scottish castle:
Admonition the Fifty-first: A Cup of Tea is Essential to Keep the Team Happy
If you have self-built or self-restored or even commissioned any significant building work here in the UK, you will know the importance of builders’ tea (BT). Not only that everyone on site drinks at least a dozen cups a day, but that you have to make a good mug to ensure workforce morale.
It helps too if you smoke.
Or did.
Or at least can provide matches.
Smoking or possibly vaping (though I have no experience of the latter) has been an integral part of the tea taste experience for years and shouldn’t be discounted lightly in the building site experience of tea drinking. The cloying sweetness of a good BT can be cut through by a drag of Golden Virginia or similar. Prefabs are, in my view, too polluted with additives – like salt petre – oh – and filter. This is not to say a fag is necessary, or even desirable, its just that for historical purposes, one needs to see that a cigarette until recently has been a virtually compulsory condiment.
A big Newfoundland is helpful too – not as a condiment obviously, but to finish discarded mugs left on the floor, ensuring that next tea-break is presented with a “sparkling” set of crockery.
The builders’ tea which would achieve the equivalent of three Michelin stars for the maker takes practice and an ability to distinguish in microseconds between multiple tea shaded pantones as well as the respective mash- and sledge- hammers of sweetness.
Critical BT elements are:
One: a big mug. Preferably with a sweary joke on the outside, or for a fuller flavour, inside on the bottom as well. It needs to be a big receptacle for the purposes of ensuring adequate hydration in the squad member, but also to retain tea-heat to the bottom of the vessel – this is especially important for the self-styled raconteur of the group, who will, it is true, spend more time gassing than drinking, smoking, laughing or farting, but will still insist on a properly hot cup of char to the end of the mug and / or break. Two: boiling water. Not for the purposes of flavour as refined tea-baggers would have it, but so the tea remains hot for as long as possible, particularly after the violent pressing – (3) below – and multiple silver spoons – (4) below. Three: Violent pressing (VP). For a deep mahogany colour, despite full-fat milk and below-mentioned epic quantities of refined Tate&Lyle. VP is achieved with plenty of greased elbow and an over-large teaspoon (otherwise the already heroic number of four teaspoons of sugar becomes a teeth-crackingly legendary seven). The deep colour of a good builders’ tea will visually presage the hot, sweet assault when you drink it. Four: 1 bag of Tate&Lyle Silver Spoon a day. To sweeten and render the correct stiff tea-texture, in which teaspoon stands momentarily. The legend of the permanently upright utensil is an overstatement. What you need to see as you lift your hand from the spoon is a momentary hesitation, and then a smooth fall in an arc centred on the tip of the spoon sitting on the bottom of the mug. If either the spoon tip slips to the side of the mug or, the fall is as sudden as you’d expect in water or, if the jangle of the spoon hitting the side of the mug speaks to a jostling, and a multiple impact, and therefore a lack of meniscal tension in the liquid – well, then, I am afraid you will have failed.
Now you might ask, what of the actual ingredients? Well, bags are essential. You will not have time to muck about with loose tea, no matter how flavourful and subtle. As you will have gathered, subtlety will be entirely wasted. The jury is still out on round, square or triangles, and I think, is influenced by the fact that various brands have different technologies. For me its about the blend … And a good blend is essential. Yorkshire. Scottish. Cheap is ideal of course because the more dusting included with leaves the thicker the texture. Milk is important. Just on the turn can invoke disgust or, depending on the audience, reminiscence about growing up. Full fat is better – again thicker. Skimmed works, but its thinness mitigates against the overall effect. No, the lactal fizz behind your back teeth of a full fat or even, gold top, as lactose and sucrose interact is an essential part of the experience – although the richness of the gold top might just be too luxurious. Biscuits are the compulsory condiment. We began with variety boxes, roadtested all-comers then settled on Rich Tea, Gingernuts and Bourbons. The deciding factor was the performance of each having been dipped. All other things being equal, you are now ready to recruit your team and begin the restoration – in our case, the house, rather than the castle.
Isn't he wonderful?

How to Choose the Best Golden Triangle India Tour Packages?
India Triangle Tours - Mystic India Tourism
Embarking on the Golden Triangle India Tour is a journey through the rich cultural tapestry of India, offering an unparalleled experience of history, architecture, and vibrant traditions. Choosing the best Golden Triangle India Tour Packages can elevate your travel experience, making it memorable and hassle-free. Here’s a comprehensive guide to help you select the ideal tour package for an unforgettable adventure.
1. Understand What the Golden Triangle Tour Entails
Before diving into the details of selecting a tour package, it’s essential to understand what the Golden Triangle encompasses. The tour covers three iconic cities:
Delhi: The capital city, a blend of ancient history and modern marvels.
Agra: Home to the Taj Mahal, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a symbol of love.
Jaipur: The Pink City, known for its majestic forts and palaces.
These cities form a triangle on the map, hence the name Golden Triangle. Each city offers unique experiences, from Delhi’s bustling markets and historical monuments to Agra’s Mughal architecture and Jaipur’s royal heritage.
2. Determine Your Budget
Golden Triangle India Tour Packages vary widely in price, catering to different budgets. Decide on your budget before starting your search. Consider factors like accommodation, transportation, meals, entry fees to tourist attractions, and additional activities such as guided tours or cultural shows. A clear budget will help narrow down your options and ensure you get the best value for your money.
3. Choose the Right Duration
Tour packages can range from a quick 3-day trip to an extensive 10-day exploration. Determine how much time you have and what you want to see. A shorter tour will focus on the highlights, while a longer one will offer a more in-depth experience, including visits to lesser-known attractions and more leisure time to soak in the local culture.
4. Look for Customization Options
A good tour operator should offer customizable Golden Triangle India Tour Packages. Customization allows you to tailor the itinerary to your preferences, adding or removing destinations and activities based on your interests. Whether you’re a history buff, a foodie, or a shopaholic, a customizable package ensures you get the most out of your trip.
5. Check the Inclusions and Exclusions
Carefully review what is included in the tour package. Key inclusions to look for are:
Accommodation (hotel ratings, location, amenities)
Transportation (type of vehicle, comfort level, driver’s expertise)
Meals (number of meals per day, type of cuisine)
Sightseeing tours (entry fees, guide services)
Any special activities (cultural shows, workshops)
Also, check for exclusions such as personal expenses, optional tours, and tipping. Knowing what’s included will prevent any unexpected costs and help you plan your budget better.
6. Read Reviews and Testimonials
Customer reviews and testimonials provide valuable insights into the quality of the tour packages. Look for reviews on trusted travel websites and social media platforms. Pay attention to feedback about the tour operator’s reliability, quality of service, and overall customer satisfaction. Positive reviews from past travelers are a good indicator of a reputable tour operator.
7. Evaluate the Tour Operator’s Experience and Expertise
Choose a tour operator with extensive experience and expertise in organizing Golden Triangle tours. Experienced operators like India Triangle Tours - Mystic India Tourism have in-depth knowledge of the destinations, ensuring a well-planned and smooth travel experience. They can provide valuable insights, tips, and recommendations to enhance your trip.
8. Consider Group Size and Travel Style
Tour packages can be group tours or private tours. Group tours are more affordable and offer the chance to meet new people, while private tours provide a more personalized and flexible experience. Decide which travel style suits you best. Also, consider the group size for group tours – smaller groups often provide a more intimate and enjoyable experience.
9. Check for Safety and Support
Ensure the tour operator prioritizes safety and offers reliable customer support. Look for packages that include travel insurance, well-maintained vehicles, experienced drivers, and knowledgeable guides. Reliable customer support is crucial in case of any issues or emergencies during your trip.
Conclusion
Selecting the best Golden Triangle India Tour Packages involves careful consideration of various factors, from budget and duration to customization options and safety measures. By following this guide, you can find a tour package that aligns with your preferences and ensures a memorable journey through India’s iconic Golden Triangle. For a seamless and enriching experience, consider India Triangle Tours - Mystic India Tourism, a trusted provider with a reputation for excellence in Golden Triangle tours. Happy travels!

Thailand is a land of contrasts—where towering mountains meet endless beaches, and bustling city streets give way to peaceful rural landscapes. For travelers seeking both thrill and serenity, few experiences compare to exploring Thailand on a motorcycle. The country’s diverse terrain offers riders everything from challenging mountain passes to tranquil countryside roads, creating an adventure that is as thrilling as it is peaceful.
Here’s an exploration of Thailand’s most captivating regions for motorcycle touring, where thrills and tranquility blend beautifully.
1. The Northern Highlands: Adventure in Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai
Northern Thailand, particularly the provinces of Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai, is a haven for motorcyclists. Known for its lush green mountains, winding roads, and cooler climate, this region is packed with thrilling routes and serene landscapes.
Highlights
Mae Hong Son Loop: This famed 600-kilometer loop encompasses over 1,800 turns and takes you through dense forests, mountain vistas, and traditional hill tribe villages. It's a paradise for adventurous riders, with challenging twists and turns.
Doi Inthanon National Park: Climb the country's highest peak as you wind up to Doi Inthanon. En route, you’ll pass by cascading waterfalls, rice terraces, and even royal pagodas that offer panoramic views of the surrounding valleys.
The combination of exhilarating curves and peaceful mountain scenery makes northern Thailand an ideal starting point for motorcycle touring, offering a seamless blend of excitement and calm.
2. The Golden Triangle: Thailand’s Mystical Borderlands
The Golden Triangle, where Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar meet, is a region steeped in history and intrigue. The area’s rugged landscapes and rich cultural heritage make it a rewarding experience for motorcyclists who want to dive deeper into Thailand's past.
Highlights
Mae Sai: Start your journey in Mae Sai, Thailand's northernmost town, where you can explore border markets and soak up the region’s unique cultural influences.
Chiang Saen: Follow the Mekong River to Chiang Saen, a historic town with ancient temples and scenic river views. The riverside roads are smooth and scenic, offering a more relaxed riding experience compared to the mountainous roads.
Scenic Mekong Routes: As you ride along the Mekong, you’ll find both thrill and tranquility as the river winds through valleys and farmland, offering glimpses into daily life in remote communities.
Exploring the Golden Triangle is as much about the journey as it is the destination. The serene river views and historical ambiance make it a mystical experience, yet the adventurous trails satisfy even the most intrepid riders.
3. Central Plains: Cultural Immersion in the Heart of Thailand
The central plains of Thailand offer a more peaceful, slower-paced experience for motorcyclists. This area is home to the country’s ancient capitals, lush rice paddies, and traditional villages. The gentle roads here are perfect for riders looking to unwind and immerse themselves in Thailand’s cultural roots.
Highlights
Sukhothai Historical Park: A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Sukhothai is one of Thailand’s oldest cities and a must-visit for history enthusiasts. Riding through its expansive park, surrounded by ancient temples and monuments, is both a peaceful and humbling experience.
Ayutthaya: Located closer to Bangkok, Ayutthaya is another historic city known for its impressive ruins and easygoing atmosphere. A motorcycle ride through the old city offers a serene escape and a fascinating look into Thailand’s rich past.
Rural Roads and Rice Fields: Ride through the sprawling rice fields of the central plains, where the vibrant green landscapes and slow pace offer a sense of tranquility rarely found in urban areas.
Central Thailand’s flat terrain and historical sites create an atmosphere that encourages riders to take things slow, providing a perfect contrast to the more thrilling mountainous routes in the north.
4. The Eastern Seaboard: Coastal Bliss and Island Views
While the beaches may be more famous among tourists, Thailand’s eastern seaboard offers beautiful coastal roads that provide both thrill and peace. This region is perfect for riders who want to experience Thailand's coastline without the bustling crowds of southern hotspots.
Highlights
Rayong and Chanthaburi: These coastal towns are known for their laid-back vibe and scenic ocean views. Ride along the coastal roads from Rayong to Chanthaburi for a relaxing journey punctuated by charming fishing villages and peaceful beaches.
Koh Chang Loop: For those willing to take a ferry ride, Koh Chang Island offers a unique motorcycle experience with stunning sea views, jungle-covered mountains, and serene beaches. The island's hilly roads provide a sense of adventure, while the beaches offer relaxation after a long ride.
The Eastern Seaboard offers a different type of motorcycle touring experience—one where the ocean breeze and laid-back coastal scenery bring a sense of peace to every ride.
5. The South: Riding Through Rainforests and Karst Landscapes
Southern Thailand is known for its beaches, but it also offers some of the country’s most spectacular natural beauty inland. The region’s towering limestone cliffs, lush rainforests, and scenic routes make it a thrilling and unique ride.
Highlights:
Khao Sok National Park: Known for its towering karst cliffs and dense rainforests, Khao Sok is a breathtaking stop for motorcyclists. Ride through the park's surrounding areas, and explore hidden caves, waterfalls, and jungle trails on foot when you need a break.
Phang Nga Bay: For a scenic coastal route, follow the roads along Phang Nga Bay, famous for its emerald-green waters and limestone islands. The winding roads and incredible views add a touch of thrill to the tranquility of the sea.
Nakhon Si Thammarat: Known for its cultural significance and scenic beauty, this province offers peaceful countryside roads, lush hills, and opportunities to interact with local communities.
In southern Thailand, you’ll find a unique blend of exhilaration and calm, with rainforest trails that challenge your riding skills and coastal views that soothe the soul.
Tips for the Road
Motorcycling through Thailand is a dream, but preparation is essential. Here are a few tips to ensure a safe and enjoyable ride:
Weather Considerations: Thailand’s rainy season (May to October) can make road conditions challenging, especially in mountainous areas. The dry season (November to February) is ideal for motorcycle touring.
Safety Gear: Helmets are mandatory, but additional protective gear is advisable for safety. Winding roads and varying terrain demand caution and preparedness.
Local Etiquette: Learning basic Thai phrases and respecting local customs can enhance your interactions with locals, who often appreciate travelers who show an interest in their culture.
Bike Rental and Insurance: Rent from reputable places that provide insurance, and ensure your international driving permit (IDP) is in order before hitting the road.
Embrace the Thrills and Tranquility of Thailand
Motorcycle touring across Thailand is a journey of contrasts. From the adrenaline rush of mountain curves to the peaceful countryside and coastal roads, each ride reveals a different side of the country’s diverse terrain. With every twist of the throttle, you’ll experience a thrilling adventure and a quiet beauty that only Thailand can offer.
