Godrej Enterprises Embraces Change with a New Logo and Clear Vision for the Future
Tumblr media
In a strategic move to carve out a distinct identity following the 127-year-old Godrej Group's split earlier this year, Godrej Enterprises has unveiled a fresh logo. This rebranding is part of a broader strategy to help the company differentiate itself from its sibling entity, Godrej Industries, which continues to use the original logo.
Key Highlights of the Rebranding:
New Logo Design: The updated logo adopts a minimalist approach, with the cursive "Godrej" retained, as per an agreement between the two factions of the family-run business.
Color Shift: The iconic tri-color palette has been replaced with a deep purple hue, signaling a transformation while keeping recognizable elements of the Godrej legacy.
Visual Distinction: The new logo is designed to create a clear visual separation between Godrej Enterprises and Godrej Industries, which will help investors and consumers easily differentiate between the two entities.
Why This Matters:
As Jamshyd Godrej, Chairman and Managing Director of Godrej Enterprises, humorously pointed out, the change will help prevent confusion in the market, especially with major product launches in sectors like aerospace that could mistakenly be attributed to the wrong faction.
Godrej Enterprises is a diversified conglomerate with a significant presence across multiple industries, including:
Aerospace and Defense
Consumer Products
Furniture
The company is perhaps best known for its unlisted subsidiary, Godrej & Boyce, which generated revenues of ₹14,574 crore in 2023.
No Immediate IPO Plans:
Despite its scale, Godrej Enterprises has no immediate plans for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) or listing any of its individual businesses. Instead, it will continue to fund its growth through internal resources.
Nyrika Holkar, Executive Director at Godrej Enterprises, emphasized that the company will remain focused on strengthening its current businesses.
Holkar, who is set to become the fourth-generation leader of the company, shared that the rebranding reflects the company's desire to drive innovation and enhance customerexperiences.
Growth Potential in Real Estate:
One area of potential growth for Godrej Enterprises lies in real estate. The company holds extensive landholdings, including a large plot in Vikhroli, Mumbai. While they will continue to develop their existing properties, the company is restricted to using its own land for construction projects for the next six years under the family agreement.
As the company navigates its post-split evolution, the rebranding is just one step in an ongoing process of defining its future. According to brand strategy expert Zia Patel, the split was a natural andamicable decision, and the new logo reinforces the dynamic, forward-thinking approach of Godrej Enterprises.
With a new logo, a shifting focus, and a commitment to the values that have defined the company for over a century, Godrej Enterprises is positioning itself for an exciting future, while continuing to honor the legacy of one of India’s most storied business families.
A Strategic Brand Transformation:
Godrej Enterprises' rebranding exemplifies the art of balancing:
Tradition with Innovation
Legacy with Modernity
Continuity with Evolution
At Apppl Combine, we understand the importance of strategic brand transformations and how they play a vital role in ensuring brand resonance and long-term success. Our expertise lies in guiding brands through these transitions, preserving their essence while helping them stay relevant in today’s dynamic market.

Other major marketplaces in the city are Tulsi Baug Market, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar Market, Juna Bazaar or Old Market, Laxmi Road Market, Phule Market (Mahatma Phule Mandai), The Hong Kong Market Lane, Phoenix Market City, Viman Nagar, Inorbit Mall, Viman Nagar, SGS Kakde Mall, Amanora Town Centre, Hadapsar, Jewel Square, Koregaon Park.
India’s Frozen Food Market and Demand
The frozen food market in India is expected to continue its growth trajectory in the forecast period, and its market is expected to be US$ 3.1 Billion by 2026, from US$ 1.1 Billion in 2020.
In the previous years, only french fries and basic frozen vegetables were sold in India. But in the span of 5 to 10 years the frozen food industry in India has completely revolutionized. With the evolution of modern retail outlets like Food Bazaar, DMart, Spencers, and online grocery stores like Big Basket, Groffers frozen food industry in India is witnessing a positive growth. Although the consumption and supply of frozen food in India is still negligible in comparison to the world due to various reasons. These are a handful of existing players, the large population of India, higher-priced foods products, lower awareness among the consumers and challenges regarding infrastructure and logistics like shortage of cold storage are the present barriers to the growth of the frozen food market. A 180% increase in market is forecasted due to the fact that there has been a significant rise in the number of millennial and gen-Z consumers among the semi-urban and urban people. They are opting for improved awareness, convenience and acceptance of frozen food because it is quick and easily available. But the real challenge would be to maintain the price range of frozen food the same as normal products, for example fruits, vegetables and meat.
Several government schemes like Integrated Development of Horticulture (MIDH) and Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY) have provided financial support for building and enhancing new cold storage facilities in India. The advancement in cold chain infrastructure has further supported the supply and distribution of frozen food products in tier I cities. This has spurred growth in the country's frozen food market. The surging cases in this second wave of the coronavirus have made the whole country go into lockdown mode again. With most people working from home, shelves of frozen foods are clearing thick and fast  these days. These items are available year-round regardless of the season.
COVID-19 greatly impacted the restaurant businesses, giving more momentum to frozen foods. The low-ingredient availability has left everyone shifting towards ready-to-cook meals and frozen food alternatives. Looking at the spike in frozen foods, Indian companies are capitalising on local delicacies that comprise organic ingredients.

Incorporate local flavours and tastes- For your business to thrive in Pune, you need to cater to understand the taste buds of local people. Their preferences and choices have to be considered to boost your sales.
Promote bundling opportunities- Encourage your customers to try something new by promoting a bundle or two-for deal, and buy one-get one free deals.
Know about your inventory- Customers are loyal to your best selling products, so be aware of the top products’ inventory levels.
Watch upcoming trends- It is important to keep a watchful eye on upcoming trends for continued growth in the industry. Trends in the snack category show which ingredients must be premiumtized at what time.

India dan 'Pink Economy'
Inanews - Sektor swasta India siap memasuki era baru inklusivitas.
My Induction Program @ICT college
ICT is actually my dream college to be in and on 14th august of this year, when I got my admission through spot admission round, I was so happy! so much like words can’t define it, and after some time we started the induction programme, which was a whopping 3 weeks long, I actually wondered what all would’ve been done in this time, and I’m glad to say that I I’ve gained a lot out of it.1
The induction programme starting from 20th August 2018, will continue up to 7th September 2018, which is about 3 weeks long, a lot of us wondered (including myself) that what all would happen in this time, I hoped that it would be good.so now, according to the time table recived I was allotted to batch II, with all the BTech guys
So here we start on day 1 on 20th August according to the time table I was supposed to go and report my self to the room H103 for phsycometric test conducted by Mr. Phadke where we were first given a sheet and after filling it I went up to the IPC section which is just above H103, where the next test was conducted on computer. When it was done I went down to godrej canteen and had some food then wandered around the whole campus of ICT with my new friend saumya.
After our tour around the campus we went and reported to the K Venkatraman auditorium (that is KV auditorium). After sometime all the professors came in and we started our session with hearing the song about “rasayan devike” or the goddess of chemicals, then after that we heard a talk from our vice chancellor Prof G.D. Yadav about the college and its standing it was really helpful for me to know as along with the sense of pride that I’ll have with this knowledge, it will be easier to explain why I took this college. He also advised us to be innovative and to do well and it goes without saying that one must be honest with oneself and others and work hard to achieve their goals. The following addresal were taken by our registrar madam lele followed by HOD of our respective departments, who all came in and shared their experiences and a word about their own fields of technologies.
Day II was again a good start, were taken on a tour of whole campus by our seniors, and all that I recall is when we were done introducing ourselves he said there would be a strong bonding of friendship amongst us and it would be difficult to understand it through words, we ourselves would get it by the end of this year. The tour concluded by 1 pm after lunch we went for biometric scanning of our fingers and when it was done I went to take my diary which will be with me for next 4 years.
The next session we had on following days was taken by Dr Rama Iyer where in her session we were to learn basic human values after about some 15 mins of talking madam segregated us into groups and then gave us a hefty task to complete. The task was that we were given a topic to choose (so my we all as a group decided justice), on the basis of the topic selected we were asked to make a chart with logo and a punchline along with a chart that depicted a picture worth a thousand words also around the topic and all of it were to be drawn. In addition to it later we were asked to make another chart where all the values we learnt were displayed along with it we had to search a song relevant to our topic and had to dance to it while singing. All that was to be done over a period of 3 weeks as she conducted sessions on 1st and 3rd week.
So as we started off, we didn’t know each other but still we had to work as a team so that thought us team work, I also learnt that we’ve got to make decisions quickly in chaotic situations. when we had to make the presentation of all the charts we decided that I must start the presentation and do it for the first chart so I did it and at the time of song we sung it and I tried dancing for first time, this experience thought me that we must try something new its god to do so. By the time the presentation concluded, Rama ma’am came up and I recall her saying that “Allen is an unleashed tiger” I was shocked to hear it, further on she advised me to anchor myself in short presentations and to do the striding in longer ones. In that whole session we really learnt a lot of things and it was very useful.
The next person who conducted the session was Mr. Vinay Zande, Although I was able to sit only for one of his two lectures it was still useful as we were able to learn about advertisements. Mr Zande is a personality in the field of advertisements and he discussed with us how advertisements are done, in direct ways and indirect ways.it was actually kind of shocking to know all that but then it was worthwhile to have this knowledge.
On day 4 and day 5 of our schedule we had to meet and familiarize ourselves with our department and its faculty members all that was in afternoon sessions of these days. The first days session was taken by our head of department Prof Sharnkerling who after a formal introduction explained us what is the department all about and what all can be benefitted from it and also he enlightened us that we would learn about other organic processes too in this 4 years along with dyestuff technology. The following days session was conducted by a senior faculty member, Prof Bote, who instead of taking a formal introduction where we introduce ourselves, did a twist, he asked us to introduce one another so it was fun to do it that way. I was introduced by arpit and I introduced shruti. After that sir again spoke about the department and answered few questions and then the session was concluded. With that the first week was concluded.
While all this was going on, our seniors had planned a whole fest for we guys by the name of “FRESHERS 2k18” where there are all kinds of sports and cultural events so that we feel comfortable. I’d personally like to thank all these guys who worked so hard to make this happen like all of them the ones on scenes and off the scenes like I really enjoyed doing it. Like even the slogan is so apt “YEH TOH BAS SHURUAT HAI”. I’ve personally tried playing a lot of games in this time and I took part in one cultural event called shazam a musical event where we had to identify all the songs and so on like a song quiz but elaborated well. It was awesome to gain all that experience like I remember one of our coordinators saying that at least try it even if you don’t know what it is or how to play it or so on. The theme that is selected is EMBARK it also makes sense as we are to embark on a 4year journey and to give a warm welcome or seniors have planned this whole thing and its awesome.
The second week had this one session every day from 11 am to 1 pm, this session was conducted by teachers at the art of living institute which was based on the concept of inner peace and stuff which we don’t usually care for was being addressed to here. In this session we learnt about yoga and also again about team work because we were playing games and doing task in these sessions and also tried acting and dancing and yoga which was enjoyable and also tiring but we enjoyed it the one thing that they thought was to live in the present and work in the present rather working in the future and thinking and living in the past of our lives. The one thing that was really useful was meditation like I didn’t really knew what it was but now I know it and I do practice it it’s a helpful method to balance yourself out and start off the day with a good mental health and also they thought us breathing techniques which are again useful in gathering concetration.
In the morning session of this week (that is form 9 am to 11 am) we had talks conducted by many dignitaries from the corporate world. The first session on day 8 was taken by Mr K Suryanarayanan who works at godrej company, he thought us through the story of dragonfly that transformation once done will be permanent and you will not be able to go back to the previous state back and also if you do well you inspire others too to rise up to a good position in life. His session also had a video representation of how a student must be what all qualities a student must imbibe in oneself to be successful.
The next day that is on day 9, session was taken by retired Col Venkatraman who shared his experience and thought us a lot of things for example, he spoke about joining the armed forces and he said that he joined it because he wanted to do something challenging and the nationalism is not the driving force in the decision that thought us honesty, then he said that never give up, however he situation may seem to be never give up. He also asked us to keep motivating ourselves and to be ready for any situation and challenges, may it be physical or mental. One of the things that he directly said was “A strong mine can drive a weak body but a weak mind cannot handle a strong body”. He also advised us to work to win and if we can’t win help someone else to win, then plan your things out and set a goal if the plan seems to fail the alter the plan not the goal and also enjoy your journey. The final thing he said was that have a spine, when you do some work take up its responsibilities.
The session on day 10 was conducted by Dr Shehenaz Elavia, she is a psychiatrist by profession and she was here to address one thing that even art of living guys tried to address mental health. She had narrated to us a list of dos and don’ts so starting from don’ts, she advised us not to turn our factual problems like financial issues and stuff to become our emotional problems as it can be a problem to us and others around us. She also advised us to not to allow external problems to be our internal problems and vice versa. Do not allow your own negativity to spill into your positivity while looking into your life. “one must take long and hard route.” And “In spite of not being confident, one must speak” is one of the few things ma’am has told us.
The session on the following day was conducted by Mr. Deep Bhandari, an eminent personality in the pharma industry. He discussed the topic of the psyche of success in the corporate world, and what all can effect success of a product and all. Mr. Bhandari spoke about disintermediation meaning my competition being from out of my working sphere. Globalization, contingent workers, multigenerational workforce in companies and scarcity of qualified talent. He said “There is no value to be created from technology unless people embrace it”, he also asked us to keep proving ourselves by demonstrating our skills and also to be better than others and to perform better than previous performance and also to develop a skill. One major thing that was being spoken about was having a growth mind set because it’s the most useful and productive kind of mind set that one could have.
The last session was conducted by Mr. Sudhir Patil who is a visiting faculty at Khalsa college and has been a part of the HR department of many companies. He had a lot to say and the best to say according to me. He discussed upon topics like SWOT Analysis, Post-Graduation attributes, market trends wrt jobs, calculated risk analysis and core values one must have. SWOT Analysis means calculating the strengths weaknesses opportunities and threats. He also spoke about skills like IT skills, Workplace skills communication skills team work skills commercial awareness and so on. he suggested us to be humble with all those who would work under us. “there is an in time but there is no certain out time”. He said that there are life-long learnings in any field. At the end of the session he thought us how to write a resume and it was important
The next thing I’d like to talk about is mentors so it was a session where we would go to our mentors and spend some time interacting with him, so our mentor was Prof Ashwin Mohan who is a faculty for physics. We used to gather at the pidilite pavilion and be there for the whole session. On the first day of session during the introduction sir was trying to make a conversation based on questions like what all do we like about the city and what all we don’t. in the following sessions he gave us tasks which were related to designing and stuff. Sir wanted us to think about gadgets and how to design them according to the purpose and need of the people so he gave us tasks where one was to design a model that would satisfy the given aim and another one was a device is given to us and we’ve to find its purpose. In his session we could learn the importance of design and thinking because we will require them in one way or another. In the last section of his lecture he gave us a puzzle to solve which helped us realize how hard is it for scientists to explain a new Phenomena in the nature and then we saw some BBC videos and ended the session, with this we also concluded the second week of our induction programme and now we move into the third and the final week.
In this week we had the continual of Dr Iyer’s session and multiple sessions with Prof Vavia and a session on the English language and some other sessions. So first let me speak about sessions with Prof Vavia, so we had a session with him where he showed us some videos in which there was a talk by Prof M M Sharma, where he spoke about a lot of things but the crux of it was that we will be in a need to keep studying new changes in our work and have to update ourselves, and also be innovative and he also spoke about Haber and his discovery of ammonia which was very crucial for agricultural industry thereby enlisting the importance of the our fields and enlisted many more examples for the same. Then next video representation was a biography of our chancellor Prof R A Mashelkar, showing his humble beginings and his climb up to the glory. The following video presentations were also biographies of our vice chancellor Prof G D Yadav and Prof J B Joshi, then we saw a video wherein we saw a address given by Mr. Mukesh Ambani who is the alumni of this institute. The reason Prof Vavia showed us all these videos was and in his own words I’d like to say “so that you can imbibe the values we are trying to give to you all”
The next session that prof Vavia took was based on examination patterns and policies related to same. I’d also like to make a note that Prof Vavia is also the one who genrally used to introduce people in the sessions to us, right from day one. and then a session was conducted by Prof A B Pandit, the session was about anti ragging policies but it did not limit to that, sir explained us what all will be constituted in ragging and it was made clear that it won’t be tolerated. First complaint amounts to warning, second amounts to informing the parents and counselling and the final one amounts to expulsion. It was in this week we were asked to go to library and spend some time there and we were frequently asked to go to the library and spend time there, it seriously worked out for me because I loved the library a lot. Our library is a ground plus two storyed building wherein there are a lot of books provided.
A session was also conducted by the college counsellor Miss Malini Shah on resilience which means to rise above hardships and to recover quickly but the session meant more than that, miss shah did a small experiment which exhibited the fact of resilience it was good to see it and understand its importance too. The last person I’d like to talk about would be Dr. Yogesh Anverkar, who was brought in to teach us English language but he did something else too. Dr Anverkar asked us to practice English language by reading and writing. reading books, novellas short stories and so on and write blogs if possible because as he said this is one of the best methods to develop your skills in English. So sir will be around ths semester to take our communications skills lectures and he will be helping us to prepare the language part for exams like GRE, GATE, and so on. I remember sirs first session was started on a historical point stating how did English language form and so on. the lecture turned fun when he started telling short stories and so it was fascinating to sit for that, and he continued to tell a short story in every lecture down till the very last one.
At the start of this three week journey I had wondered how it would be, now when I stand at the end of it I am glad that it was a good one great one actually, thank you, like all those who worked it out, all those who came in to speak, all those seniors who worked to make the Freshers 2k18 a great fest thank you guys. I remember Vavia sir saying that we want you’ll to imbibe good values I think so that this has three week induction programme to been helpful in doing so as I embark on this journey of my engineering, this was really the best start I could’ve got.

Does ‘visual branding’ help a family owned business make more money?
Tumblr media
You’re a 2nd or 3rd generation business owner and have entered the business recently.
Maybe you’ve lived abroad or worked for a large corporate. Your industry could be going through some drastic change and you need to keep pace or there’s a new joint venture you’re embarking on. Maybe a large institution is investing in your growth. Branding plays a key role in each of these scenarios. Given your experience, you now want to implement your insights into your family business, but there’s resistance from others in the business (parents, relatives, trusted advisors). How do you explain the benefits of ‘branding’ to them? Why is it needed now and will it benefit the business?
The next few points will help ease your conversation.
1. Branding does translate to ROI.
Most people think it’s hard to quantify the impact of a ‘design led’ decision. How do you gauge if your new logo has translated into increased sales? Fact: If you had bought stocks in a ‘design led’ company like Apple, Coca-Cola, Ford, Herman-Miller or IBM between 2004 and 2014, you would have made 228% more money! Your ROI would have been 228% higher than the performance of the S&P 500 during the same period. The Apple ‘brand’ is valued at $118 Billion USD today. This isn’t just the logo - it’s the products, processes, retail experiences, their approach to innovation and the value of Steve Jobs himself.
Your ‘brand’ is an investment in growth, an asset that strengthens relationships across stakeholders and markets. It’s the way you do your work, the way you run your business and the way you treat your people. Your ‘brand’ is NOT just your logo. In the top 100 U.S. family owned businesses (by way of revenue), 32 refer to their family heritage and roots. They believe this key fact leads to long-term growth and a sense of sustainability among their stakeholders.
A few India specific branding ROI facts from the recent past: Post the relaunch of the TATA Gluco Plus beverage packaging, Tamil Nadu saw a a 229% growth in sales and Andhra Pradesh saw a 65% growth in sales. When Pepsico initiated the development of a whole range of Kurkure (munchies) variant packages, sales grew almost 50% BEFORE any advertising.  In the launch quarter after an identity and packaging redesign, Gowardhan Fresh & Thick Dahi gained a 27% share in the key Mumbai market.
Good design is good business.
2. What makes up a ‘brand’?
When was the last time you changed your dentist or tailor? Maybe it’s because they provide a certain ‘brand’ of experience? Mr.Ardeshir Godrej and Mr.Pirojsha Godrej started the ‘Godrej’ group in 1897 in Bombay. 119 years and many generations later, today, we live in Godrej homes, decorate them with Godrej furniture and secure them with Godrej locks. We buy food from their supermarkets and store them in Godrej refrigerators. They even make shaving creams, bathing and detergent soaps. ‘Godrej’ today is synonymous with ‘care’. A recognised and trusted brand is critical in creating differentiation, a price premium and multiple product lines with the same brand name. If yours is a premium brand, are you doing enough to stay ahead? (think of Nokia phones) Even a great product can become a commodity overnight and go bankrupt. Family owned businesses have some inherent communication advantages they can build on:
1. Build on your history and heritage - you can. Fewer corporates can. 2. Show how you’ve balanced tradition and innovation in your industry. 3. Highlight your initiatives towards the community. Especially those that draw on your core values. A good first impression holds true for a logo as much as it does for a handshake. It can only be beneficial to present yourself well at every step of the buying process. Additionally, you can put a company timeline on your website. Muted colors in your advertising. Refer to the past with pride, while inviting people into your vision for the future. Visualize your values - on all screensavers, posters, office material etc. Materialize your values - take part in charitable activities. Let people know. Make sure your presentation is consistent across mediums.
3. What’s your existing brand perception? You’ve travelled internationally. You buy the best global fashion, know the right investments and have had a variety of ‘brand experiences’. It’s only a logo/website to be designed. How hard can it be?
Things to consider: Will your approach tell you why and how your new logo will tangibly increase sales? (examples in point 1) How exactly will this new site attract the talent you need to grow your business? Is this a subjective or logical approach? Is it about individual preferences or a result of careful research? Brands are driven by people. Vendors, clients, partners, employees, management - past, present and future. Know where your brand stands today before starting off on changing anything. Include all your stakeholders in the conversation - they’re the ones who will deliver on your vision.
In 1985 (to take on Pepsi) the Coca Cola company launched ‘New Coke’. It flopped nationwide after just 79 days on shelves. They hadn’t taken their stakeholders opinions into account and this is now a legendary case study of what ‘not’ to do.
So what’s a research or logic driven approach to gauging brand perception? Start with these questions:
What quality, or characteristic, do we want to be known for as a family or a business? What should be the tone in our communication - e.g. serious (sense of responsibility), humorous (light-hearted), traditional (history and legacy), modern (innovation and flexibility)? And why? Does this quality matter to our stakeholders and, if so, why? Do we need to change anything within the family or the business (with processes and / or behaviours) to further enhance this quality and to bring it to life? How can we turn this quality or characteristic into a meaningful message? How can we encourage our employees to live by our key values at all times, including during their interactions with internal and external stakeholders? How can we make our value set visible and tangible within the family and the company?
See things differently? Next step would be a structured ‘Brand Strategy Exercise’. This helps align your brand strategy with your business strategy, ensuring greater ROI.
If you don’t give the buyer a reason to engage beyond just the product and its features - they hit you on price. Your ‘brand’ can be the difference between a profit and a loss.
4. Its all about people
Having done the ‘Brand Strategy Exercise’ - you will now have a ‘Brand Positioning Statement’. This is a single sentence that encapsulates what your brand is about and it will be used in communicating with all your stakeholders. A ‘Brand Positioning Statement’ (internal), is different from a ‘Tagline’ (customer facing). Brand Positioning Statement
Target: Style on a budget.
Volvo: For upscale American families, Volvo is the family automobile that offers maximum safety.
Home Depot: The hardware department store for do‑it‑yourselfers.
Tagline
Target: Expect more. Pay less.
Volvo: For life.
Home Depot: You can do it. We can help. It’s not enough to describe the product by way of it’s features - today customers want to know how it was created. Who was involved in creating it. Customers want to know the honest, authentic story behind your product. This gives the business a face and a soul and you’re no longer seen as just a ‘corporation’. It makes it easier for people to relate to the business and increases customer interest and loyalty. Talking about your journey thus far and the road ahead makes the business trustworthy and relatable to an employee. At the end of the day, a ‘brand’ is a ‘person’ too - separate from it’s owners. It has a personality (Bacardi). A tone of voice (Amul). A manner of behaving (Virgin). Perceptions it creates about itself (Coke). Specific people it speaks to (Audi), relates with and impacts more than others.
In all this it’s important to note that your personal preferences might not be what your brand needs to succeed in the marketplace. The brand has to speak objectively, authentically and consistently through all its means of expression. Be it the logo, brochure, website, advertising etc. Since you need to get this exercise done right, I’m sharing here a few tips on how you can pick the right agency/partner: - Check if their portfolio has evidence of visual design vs. strategic design - Have they worked with family owned businesses before? - Identify the main stakeholders of the business on your side, and make clear how they’ll be involved in the approval process. Agree on the ‘success parameters’ to avoid conflict later. This could be increased sales, more traffic to the website, an upbeat workforce etc. Check with others in your circle (or industry) who’ve done a similar exercise to gauge potential timelines and costs. And a few pointers to get the best result for your internal team: Before starting, help your team understand that a new brand strategy isn’t a ‘quick fix’. You need 6 to 12 months to see results. You could do a quick sales campaign - but even your sales team needs support with all your brand assets (logo, website, new brochures, processes etc.) in place. Once values and the brand voice are aligned, put processes in place to evaluate employee compliance with the values. Secure buy-in of your loyal workforce, make them your on-ground ‘brand taskforce’. Your HR department plays a key role here. Treating them as a partner is paramount to your brand success.
5. Explaining ‘digital’.
Finally, I’m sure you’ve had a few conversations internally about ‘digital’. So why is it important to have a strategy that extends to digital mediums? A few key points:
Data. Digital marketing gives you access to real-time data that can be analyzed to course correct within a few minutes or hours. Traditional marketing (unless you’re ITC) just doesn’t give you the same kind of flexibility or leverage.  Cost. You spend a fraction of what you otherwise would on returns that in some cases can be substantially higher. Lead generation campaigns for example. ROI. Companies using digital marketing strategies can expect 2.8 times better revenue growth. Audience. With digital you can speak directly to the specific customer you’re targeting, with clearer insights into what they want.
Most of all - digital is todays ‘word of mouth’. But first make sure your ‘basics’ are in place. Ensure your website is up to date and ‘responsive’ - easily viewable across devices. SEO is non-negotiable today if you want to be found easily. Figure out what you want to do on digital. Is it branding? Lead generation? Selling? Engagement? Each platform allows you to do something unique, and one size doesn’t fit all. If you want to draw attention to the existing thought leadership you have within your company; Linkedin is a good option. Linkedin needs rich content though and a good blogger who understands your industry is paramount. If yours is a consumer facing product, furniture for example, then facebook, instagram and pinterest might be great ways to tell ‘home’ stories. Maybe customer testimonials. It’s important to connect with the end user, even if you’re selling through a retailer or distributor. Need an e-commerce site? Unless you have a unique shopping process, shopify.com, martjack.com or squarespace.com have you covered.
By 2017, 74% of all web traffic is estimated to come from video, so don’t ignore this medium. Youtube is a great way to share a corporate video, customer stories or even ‘making of’ product videos.
Where digital is concerned, standing still is not an option. Work with an expert. Digital is transforming business models; and you need to ensure you are ahead of the curve.
Next Steps? First identify why you want to redesign your website, logo or do a branding exercise Identify your end result and success parameters What is the realistic timeframe within which you’re looking to get this done? (quality needs time — always) Write down a ‘simple brief’ — what you want, who is your target audience, who is your competition, what are your business goals, what’s the timeline Speak to your peers, get a sense of the agencies or professionals they’ve worked with. Or identify some from your own research online and reach out to them. Get buy-in from your team to move ahead Start a conversation and keep the questions within points 3 and 4 in mind while speaking to the agency and your internal team
More than anything else
Ensure there is accountability in delivering and implementing the message - once you’ve agreed what the message is.
Be patient. Do it in stages. The most critical barrier towards building an aspirational brand is overcoming the ignorance about the importance of a brand. Assured support of the internal team at the outset will only allow your creative partners to give you their best.
Know that branding isn’t rocket science - but it is a science. And a conversation built on facts and logic, will always hold it’s own against a subjective opinion of what looks good and what doesn’t.
And enjoy the process! It can be truly rewarding to discover things about your company along the way. I hope this post was meaningful in addressing the questions you had in mind about branding as a whole. I’ll be happy to have a chat about any other queries you have.
