tonight marks the beginning of yom kippur - the holiest of holy days, the day of atonement. i know i have a lot to atone for. i hope i can be forgiven for my wrongdoings, and that i can find it in myself to forgive those who have done me wrong. but one sin weighs heavy on my heart above all others, and that is the cruelty and barbarism being waged in the name of the jewish people.

i wonder if netanyahu and his cronies will even think about any of the innocent palestinian civilians whose lives have been stolen by israeli forces as they gather for kol nidre. how the hostages continue to waste away and their friends and families are left wondering if they’re even still alive - all because of his own stubborn refusal to end this senseless slaughter. will the thought even cross his mind as he strikes his heart with his fist and prays for forgiveness?

we, the jewish people, have a lot to atone for. i know g-d is merciful, and today is the day when our sins are washed away as we begin a new year. i only hope we can be forgiven. not just in the eyes of the l-rd, but in the eyes of the world, who’ve come to see us as monsters.

i am praying that we will be forgiven.
