WEF Boasts BILLIONS of Humans Will Soon Be Replaced With AI Hybrids
The tyranny is spreading. Klaus Schwab has admitted the global elite are planning to depopulate the world and replace ordinary human beings with AI and transhumanist hybrids.
According to the WEF, humanity will be better equipped to deal with the challenges of the future if unborn children undergo gene editing to ensure they are free of diseases and disabilities, including psychological traits which the elite disapprove of.
Speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai where he was lecturing 600 unelected bureaucrats about “How To Rule The World”, the WEF founder said that the WEF have the technology to become gods and engage in intelligent design to, in his words…“alter the human being.”
If that wasn’t dystopian enough, wait until you hear how Schwab is planning to alter us.

Global/UK: Artificial Intelligence Summit must not ignore severe rights harms of fraud-detection tech
Ahead of the UK’s AI Safety Summit that begins on Wednesday November 1, Damini Satija, Head of the Algorithmic Accountability Lab at Amnesty International said:
“The UK’s Global Summit on AI safety must set the right example in the global race to regulate AI, and not be led by speculative discourses on ‘existential threats’ of these technologies, at the expense of those experiencing the sharpest human rights impacts of AI systems today.
Last week Prime Minister Rishi Sunak promoted the usage of AI tools to ‘clamp down on benefit fraudsters’ as a positive technological development, completely neglecting research which shows the discriminatory nature and frequent misuse of such systems.
“Where is the government’s acknowledgement of these harms of AI and where is the attention to regulating and protecting the most marginalised communities? The AI Summit’s agenda clearly favours interests of the tech industry, and this is concerning as the use of such tech tends to act against marginalised groups.
“In a previous experimentation of such tech in the UK, the Department of Work and Pensions targeted disabled individuals unfairly, subjecting them to benefits fraud investigations, pushing them into an endless bureaucratic maze, with no transparency or justice in sight.
“In 2021, Amnesty International’s research exposed the devastating consequences of a discriminatory AI system used by the Dutch Tax Authorities to detect fraudulent applications for child-benefits, and its racialised impacts on the right to social security. Four years on, impacted individuals are still waiting for justice and accountability

At the Richard Nixon Foundation’s Grand Strategy Summit last month, former US national security adviser Ambassador Robert O’Brien suggested that the US might destroy Taiwan’s semiconductor factories in the event of a Chinese invasion, as reported by Army Technology.
“If China takes Taiwan and takes those factories intact – which I don’t think we would ever allow – they have a monopoly over chips the way OPEC has a monopoly or even more than the way OPEC has a monopoly over oil,” O’Brien said.
In addition, as reported by Bloomberg in October, the US may be planning to evacuate the island’s semiconductor engineers in the event of a Chinese invasion. The source says unnamed US officials said that accelerated preparations had been made for an action plan to evacuate such skilled personnel to the US in the worst-case scenario.
China’s satellite coverage in the Western Pacific has doubled since 2018, the Pentagon reported last week in its annual assessment of the Chinese military. That gives China the ability to detect American surface ships with an array of sensors that can guide its 2,000 land-based missiles to moving targets, including US aircraft carriers.
The Defense Department’s November 29 report “Military and Security Developments Involving the People’s Republic of China” reflects a grimly realistic rethinking of China’s military capacity in its home theater.
China hawk Elbridge Colby, a prominent advocate of a Western Pacific military buildup to deny China access to its adjacent seas, tweeted on November 6, “Senior flag officers are saying we’re on a trajectory to get crushed in a war with China, which would likely be the most important war since WWII, God forbid.”
The strategic takeaway is that the United States cannot win a firefight close to China’s coast, and can’t defend Taiwan whether it wants to or not. That view in the Joe Biden administration’s Department of Defense (DOD) persuaded the president to discuss “guardrails” against military confrontation in his November summit with his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping.
Republican hawks appear to have come to the same conclusion. The United States will enact a scorched-earth policy in Taiwan, destroying its semiconductor industry, if the PRC seizes the island, former Trump national security adviser Robert O’Brien told a conference at the Richard Nixon Foundation on November 10, reports army-technology.com.
“If China takes Taiwan and takes those factories intact – which I don’t think we would ever allow – they have a monopoly over chips the way OPEC has a monopoly, or even more than the way OPEC has a monopoly over oil,” O’Brien said.
A much-read paper by two Army War College professors published this year proposes that “the United States and Taiwan should lay plans for a targeted scorched-earth strategy that would render Taiwan not just unattractive if ever seized by force, but positively costly to maintain.”
[A bunch of technical information about Chinese satellite coverage and the development and deployment of its electronic arms and other military capabilities]
A noteworthy observation in the new Pentagon report is that China now has only 30,000 marines, compared with a US Marine Corps of about 200,000 including reserves. Only 200 Chinese marines are deployed outside the country, at China’s sole overseas base in Djibouti. China has about 14,000 special forces versus an American count of about 75,000. This isn’t consistent with the report’s claim that China wants to “project power globally.”

Nike’s Ongoing Commitment to Supporting Athletes Beyond the Summer of Sport
Tumblr media
As the summer of sport wraps up, Nike is continuing to extend its support for athletes in Paris and beyond with initiatives that leverage the power of movement to create a brighter future for all.
Nike’s commitment to the next generation was highlighted through its recent "Coach the Dream: Future of Youth Sport Summit," held in Paris during the Paralympic Games. The four-day event took place at Sport dans la Ville’s new campus, co-funded by Nike, and brought together 35 partners along with over 70 coaching experts and community leaders. The goal? To shape the future of inclusive youth sport and coaching.
This summit stems from Nike’s core belief that every young person deserves access to mentors who understand them and are prepared to coach their dreams. By doing so, Nike hopes to unlock their full potential and cultivate a lifelong passion for sport. The brand plans to apply the knowledge gained from the summit to help fund projects aimed at fostering inclusive coaching environments for youth across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
“Coaching is Nike’s heritage and future. We’ve seen the profound impact coaches can have on youth,” says Vanessa Garcia-Brito, Nike’s VP and Chief Impact Officer. “Alongside our community partners, we’re driving the future of youth sport by improving access and experience. The world needs more coaches who represent the kids and communities they work with, and we’re excited to continue this investment in Paris and globally.”
In tandem with this initiative, Nike and France’s National Sports Agency launched a playbook through their "Team Go Girls" project. This playbook is designed to help organizations eliminate the barriers girls face in accessing sport. Built on data from over 140 digital challenges and 35 weekly community activities involving 1,250 girls across Paris and Pantin over the course of 10 months, the playbook aims to increase girls-only sports programs across roughly 50 French cities starting this fall.
Additionally, Nike continues its work with the Olympic Refuge Foundation’s Paris-based program, "Terrains d’Avenir." This project provides local sports clubs with training on how to create safe environments and increase sports access for newly arrived refugees. These efforts also include initiatives focused on displaced girls and young women in the Paris region.
Nike also recently introduced "GameOn," a career development program aimed at expanding opportunities for athletes, including those with disabilities. Created with the support of the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Committee, this one-year program offers athletes meaningful work experience to help them advance their career goals. Participants will receive professional development at Nike’s global headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.
Whether through the Coach the Dream Summit, Team Go Girls, or GameOn, Nike’s initiatives highlight its unwavering commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable future for athletes of all abilities, backgrounds, and aspirations – both in Paris and around the world.

U.S. boosts support for Ukraine (BBC) President Biden opened NATO’s 75th anniversary summit on Tuesday by announcing more military aid for Ukraine. Mr Biden described Nato as a force for democracy, in contrast with "autocrats" who sought to "overturn global order". His remarks also portrayed support for Nato as a bipartisan issue in the US. His rival in the upcoming presidential election, former president Donald Trump, has been less steadfast in his commitment to Nato members, whom he criticised again during a campaign rally. For all Mr Biden's reassurance, allies such as the UK are already making contingency plans for a Trump victory in November.
Metal Thieves Are Stripping America’s Cities (NYT) The 6th Street Bridge in Los Angeles is wired to glow with colorful lights celebrating the city’s spirit. But the bridge, known as the “Ribbon of Light,” goes dark at night now. So do stretches of the busy 405 freeway and dozens of street blocks across the city. And in Las Vegas and surrounding communities, more than 970,000 feet of electrical wiring, the equivalent of 184 miles, have gone missing from streetlights over the past two years. The lights are going out across American cities because thieves have been stripping copper wire out of thousands of streetlights and selling it to scrap metal recyclers for cash. The wiring typically fetches only a few hundred dollars, but blacked-out lights pose safety hazards to drivers and pedestrians, and are costing cities millions to repair. Metal theft has been an urban plague for decades, often rising alongside commodity prices. But the combination of the economic ills and social malaise lingering since the pandemic and soaring demand for metals, especially for copper, has brought this street crime to new levels.
Record-breaking heat suspected in at least 7 deaths as temperatures soar across U.S. (NBC News) The sweltering heat wave gripping parts of the U.S. has shattered heat records and sparked an air quality health advisory, and it is suspected of having contributed to at least seven deaths. More than 130 million people across the West, the East Coast, southeast Texas and South Florida were under heat alerts Tuesday, and a huge swath of the Western U.S. sweltered in “red flag” conditions because of the risk of wildfires. More than 1.5 million customers in Texas were still without power Wednesday afternoon, depriving many of air conditioning during the heat wave, 48 hours after Hurricane Beryl made landfall on the Gulf Coast.
They Fled Oppression at Home, but It Followed Them Abroad (NYT) The line outside the Venezuelan Consulate in Madrid stretched down the block. Pregnant women, families with small children, older people and those with disabilities arrived as early as 4 a.m.—five hours before the office opened—trying to register to vote in Venezuela’s highly anticipated presidential election. Adriana Rodríguez, 47, who left Venezuela in 2018, showed up at 8 a.m., two days in a row. Both times, she waited four hours before reaching the front of the line, only to be turned away, she said, always with the same explanation: “They could not register any more people.” With Venezuela’s authoritarian president, Nicolás Maduro, trailing badly in polls ahead of the July 28 vote, the government has imposed stringent rules making registering to vote nearly impossible for millions of Venezuelans living abroad, including in the United States, Spain and Latin American countries. Many left their homeland because of harsh economic and political conditions. As a result, the government’s tactics are tantamount to sweeping electoral fraud, election experts say, since as many as 25 percent of Venezuela’s eligible voters live outside the country, and a large number would most likely not vote for Mr. Maduro.
UK’s overflowing prisons present PM Starmer with early crisis (Reuters) The scale of the challenge facing Prime Minister Keir Starmer’s new government is writ large in Britain’s prisons, which are within weeks of being too full to accept new inmates, leaving the government with unpalatable and costly choices. Britain has western Europe’s highest rate of incarceration, according to the World Prison Brief database and faces a crisis after a new building programme failed to keep track with tougher sentencing laws that have fuelled a growing prison population. Already many prisons are housing two inmates in cells built for one.
Is France governable? The budget is an early test (Reuters) Just a couple of weeks ago, France was under scrutiny over how it would plug the holes in its budget. Now the issue is whether the euro area’s second largest economy can muster a budget at all. What France does with its strained public finances will be an early test of whether it can still be governed after the hung parliament created by President Emmanuel Macron’s move to call snap elections. Financial markets, the European Commission and its euro zone partners are all watching closely. France is already way above its EU-mandated deficit limits. “A divided National Assembly will find it hard to agree on politically difficult spending cuts,” said Leo Barincou, senior economist at Oxford Economics, referring to France’s parliament.
Fed up with tourists, Barcelona protesters blast them with water guns (Washington Post) Thousands took to the streets of Barcelona over the weekend to protest overtourism, some armed with brightly colored water pistols that sent bewildered visitors fleeing restaurant patios, abandoning half-eaten meals. The protesters, who carried signs reading “Tourists go home,” say tourism has inflated the cost of living for Barcelonians, while the revenue from visitors hasn’t been fairly distributed across the city. As travel rebounds after the end of pandemic restrictions, the frustration in Spain reflects growing backlash against overtourism around the world.
Italy is a hotbed of volcanic activity (The Week) Italy’s Mount Etna and Mount Stromboli, two volcanoes only 180 km apart, have both erupted in recent days, spewing smoke and ash into the air. “Etna, one of the world’s most active volcanoes, has seen intense activity in recent days, lighting up the sky near the city of Catania, while Stromboli off the northern Sicilian coast has spilled lava into the sea,” said USA Today. However, these volcanoes only represent a fraction of the threat Italy faces. Italy has 12 volcanoes total, with nine still considered active, and the country is prone to earthquakes and other seismic activity. One of the most famous disasters resulting from this combination is the eruption of Mount Vesuvius, which destroyed the city of Pompeii in 79 A.D. Now scientists are worried an even bigger disaster could be on the horizon. “With 24 hidden underground craters, the Campi Flegrei, a so-called supervolcano, dwarfs the better-known Vesuvius,” said Politico. Since the summer of 2023, several small earthquakes have appeared in the region, causing concern around a potentially catastrophic future eruption. The last time the Campi Flegrei supervolcano erupted was 500 years ago, and the effects were widespread.
Another year of heat and floods in China (Washington Post) Three years after Zhengzhou was hit with China’s deadliest flash floods in decades, the central Chinese city was underwater once again. For over three hours on Monday afternoon, 9.21 inches of rain was dumped on this city of 13 million—and forced an all-out effort to prevent a repeat of 2021, when 300 died in a sudden deluge that flooded the subway and trapped people in submerged cars. China’s summer has begun with a massive emergency response effort in multiple provinces to prevent extreme weather, now routine, from turning into a political and humanitarian crisis for the ruling Communist Party. After last year’s record-breaking heat waves, June brought drought, floods and typhoons—sometimes quickly coming one after the other. Extreme heat delayed crop planting in eastern Shandong province weeks before it was hit with floods. Beijing has now made adapting to bouts of extreme weather a greater policy priority. Last week, weather officials issued an unusually direct warning about the country’s vulnerability to intensifying heat and rainfall worsened by climate change. Forecasts for the rest of July underscore a sense of urgency: Torrential rain is expected in 18 regions across the country. The government has sent in hundreds of soldiers, relocated tens of thousands of villagers, and allocated $200 million to aid disaster relief.
How Hezbollah is trying to counter Israel’s high-tech surveillance (Reuters) Coded messages. Landline phones. Pagers. Following the killing of senior commanders in targeted Israeli airstrikes, the Iran-backed Lebanese militant group, Hezbollah, has been using some low-tech strategies to try to evade its foe’s sophisticated surveillance technology, informed sources told Reuters. The sides have been trading fire since Hezbollah’s Palestinian ally in the Gaza Strip, Hamas, went to war with Israel in October. Tens of thousands of people have fled both sides of the border. Israeli strikes have killed more than 330 Hezbollah fighters and around 90 civilians in Lebanon, according to Reuters tallies. Israel says attacks from Lebanon have killed 21 soldiers and 10 civilians. Israel’s electronic eavesdropping—including hacking into cell phones and computers—is widely regarded as among the world’s most sophisticated. Hezbollah has learned from its losses and adapted its tactics in response, sources familiar with the group’s operations told Reuters. Cell phones, which can be used to track a user’s location, have been banned from the battlefield in favour of more old-fashioned communication means, including pagers and couriers who deliver verbal messages in person. In case conversations are overheard, code words are used for weapons and meeting sites. These are updated nearly daily and delivered to units via couriers.
What a war between Israel and Hezbollah could mean (NZZ) At the moment, Beirut holds few signs of impending war. The bars in the Lebanese capital are packed, and planes are landing at the airport with entire families of Lebanese exiles determined to spend the summer in their old homeland. But for weeks, Israel and Hezbollah, which have been firing increasingly fiercely at each other over the Israel-Lebanon border, have been moving toward open warfare. Facing each other on the border between the two countries are probably the most powerful war machines in the Middle East. On one side is Israel's army, with its ultramodern air force and soldiers who have been battle-hardened by months of fighting in Gaza. On the other is the Iranian-backed Shiite militia Hezbollah, whose fighters recently gained experience in Syria, and which has more missiles and drones than many European armies. An open war could cause devastating damage on both sides—especially if Hezbollah decides to use its massive arsenal of missiles and drones against Israel. Nobody knows exactly how many rockets the militia actually has at its disposal, but experts assume the number is more than 100,000. Hezbollah also has Soviet Scud missiles and a limited number of Iranian Fateh-110 precision missiles. These longer-range weapons could be used against military installations—but also against population centers, ports or airports.
At NATO summit, Gaza is the elephant in the room (Washington Post) Ukraine’s plight as it resists Russian invasion is the central focus of NATO leaders gathering in the U.S. capital this week. But behind NATO’s urgent deliberations over Ukraine looms another conflict. Since Oct. 7, Israel’s devastating campaign in Gaza has taken global attention away from the Russian invasion and inflamed passions about perceived Western hypocrisy. Many critics pointed to the gap between U.S. and European ire over Russia attacking Ukrainian hospitals and their relative quiescence as Israel repeatedly levels medical facilities and schools in its war against militant group Hamas. “It is very clearly hypocrisy, a double standard,” Numan Kurtulmus, speaker of the Turkish parliament, said. In just a span of months, the Israeli bombardments have produced more rubble in Gaza than in multiple years of war in Ukraine. The densely packed territory has been pulverized. Reconstruction, whenever it starts, will take decades. Most Gazans have been forced from their homes and a sprawling set of humanitarian crises prevails, including, per U.N. experts, a full-blown famine. “When Russia invaded Ukraine, the West led the global campaign of condemnation. It called for the world to denounce Russia in the name of human rights and international law,” wrote Indonesian President-elect Prabowo Subianto earlier this year. “Today, however, the same countries are allowing yet another bloody conflict, this time in Gaza.”

Cutting Off Russia’s Metals Trade Revenue
Tumblr media
Amidst a world striving for stability, how often do we see a concerted effort that alters global markets? Yet, the United States, along with the United Kingdom, has recently made headlines with its decisive actions against Russia by targeting a vital part of its economy: the metals trade.
The Impact of Sanctions on Russian Metals
Sanctions aren't just a word tossed around in diplomatic circles—they're a strategy. By prohibiting the importation of Russian-origin aluminum, copper, and nickel, the U.S. Treasury, under the guidance of Secretary Janet L. Yellen, and in tandem with UK’s Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt, aims to squeeze the financial channels that bolster Russia's military activities. This move aligns with statements from the G7 summit, emphasizing a reduction in Russia’s revenue streams without causing undue disruption to global markets. Indeed, ensuring that already-produced metals are exempt demonstrates a nuanced approach to maintaining market stability.   Global Markets Respond to New Regulations Following these sanctions, major trading platforms like the London Metal Exchange (LME) and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) will no longer accept new Russian metals. This decision not only affects Russia's economic stance but also signifies a major shift in how global commodities are traded. Metal exchanges, historically neutral marketplaces, now find themselves at the forefront of geopolitical conflicts, enforcing sanctions that could redefine future trading patterns.   United Front in Economic Warfare Secretary Yellen remarked, "Our new prohibitions on key metals, in coordination with our partners in the United Kingdom, will continue to target the revenue Russia can earn to continue its brutal war against Ukraine." This statement underscores a shared commitment to halting the war's financing through targeted economic measures. The collaboration between the U.S. and UK highlights a strategic alignment that may set a precedent for future international policy against aggressors.   Meanwhile, Jeremy Hunt's comment, "Disabling Putin’s capacity to wage his illegal war in Ukraine is better achieved when we act alongside our allies," adds another layer to this alliance. It’s a testament to the power of collective action in the realm of international politics and economic sanctions.
Challenges and Opportunities
While the immediate effect of these sanctions is clear—they cut off a significant revenue stream for Russia—the long-term implications for global markets and geopolitical relationships are yet to be fully understood. The metals market, like any other, thrives on predictability and stability. Introducing sanctions introduces a level of uncertainty that market participants will need to navigate carefully.   Final Thoughts as these sanctions begin to take effect, stakeholders from all corners of the globe will be watching closely. The actions taken by the U.S. and UK not only aim to deter aggression through economic means but also challenge the international community to reconsider the role of global markets in geopolitical conflicts.   Sources: THX News & US Department of State. "Act Today"
International Migrants Day, observed on December 18, 2023, stands as a moment of reflection and celebration, acknowledging the invaluable contributions of millions of migrants across the globe.
The dynamism of individuals in motion serves as a catalyst for development, playing diverse roles as workers, students, entrepreneurs, artists, and more, impacting both their countries of origin and their new communities. Their ability to maintain ties with their roots while embracing new environments enriches societies with knowledge, experience, and skills.
When managed effectively, mobility becomes a cornerstone for sustainable development, fostering prosperity and advancement. Harnessing the full potential of migration aligns with the aspirations articulated in the 2030 Agenda during the Sustainable Development Goal summit in New York in September 2023, promising benefits for all.
Urgency defines the need for people-centric, evidence-based solutions that enable individuals to remain in their communities or, for those who choose or are compelled to move, support their transition.
The recently concluded COP28 summit in Dubai underscored the imperative for acknowledging the impact of climate change on migrants, advocating for inclusive partnerships involving migrants, women, persons with disabilities, and communities. Emphasizing the role of youth is paramount in this pursuit.
This International Migrants Day, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) seeks to position migration as a viable solution to global challenges. From adapting to climate change impacts to fostering enhanced economic prospects for communities, migration stands among the pathways to address these issues.
"Every person can make a difference. Every person can be an agent of change. Together, our collective actions today will prepare us for a better tomorrow."

What is the aim of an electric two-wheeler?
Tumblr media
As electric scooters are typically designed to tackle the climate change phenomenon, many people still wonder what are aimed for. In a general sense, an electric two-wheeler or vehicle delivers a neat and clean mode of transport that benefits and is good for the environment. However, having a simple design and operation, several people choose electric scooters as they are very quick to move around having no hassle of the traditional fuel-powered scooters. Moreover, electric scooters can make it easier for people having disabilities or senior citizens due to their benefits and advantages of easy mobility and movement.
The next generation of electric scooters in Kolkata will significantly rely on software helping in digital mobility services to all riders. For instance, an automated process will enable you to quickly replace or recharge your batteries if you run out of power or charge while traveling down the highway. Only by incorporating sensors and emergency service providers into long-term transportation solutions will make this possible.
Why is an electric bike necessary in India?
The sheer quantity of India's population and the expansion of its urban areas only serve to highlight the significance of e-bikes and scooters. These elements contribute to climate change and pollution in the majority of the planet. In India, the idea of electric mobility is not new; it is a remnant of early twenty-first-century ideologies that prioritized pollution over all other issues.
Soon after the 2015 Paris Climate Summit, governments from all over the world pledged to reduce their carbon footprint and achieve carbon neutrality with renewable energy sources. India included, e-mobility soon rose to the top of the list of preferred modes of transportation in both developed and developing nations.
Experts have noted that the widespread use of best-quality electric scooters in Kolkata and scoots will remove the growing number of ICE or internal combustion engine vehicles, which are the primary source of pollution and global warming.
Why do people in India adore electric bikes?
Electric bikes provide a more unrestrained and enjoyable riding experience, allowing for greater freedom of movement. With the battery and charging infrastructure, you can go further, quicker, and for longer distances. The nicest thing about riding a battery-powered bike is how easily you can avoid the heavy traffic and clogged roads that are typically seen in rural areas.
When compared to ICE cars, e-bikes provide cheap and economical transportation alternatives, and battery bikes' lower number of moving components also lowers maintenance costs. You can ride more quickly to work, school, far-off trails, and wherever else you want to go with it as well. To have the best riding experience, you may also include your electric scooters in Kolkata with extra electronics and sensors.
What is the greatest electric bike to buy in India?
With their cheap electric motorcycles, several manufacturers frequently prey on unsuspecting buyers. Before purchasing an EV, you should double-check the manufacturers. Look for the top electric scooter showroom near me and do a careful examination of the technical factors.
There are several various types of electric bikes and scooters, each with a distinct battery size and power output. Always choose electric scooters or bikes with a range that is at least 20–25% more than your typical travel distance because the manufacturer's stated range is based on ideal road and driving conditions. Another factor to consider is top speed and price, which vary greatly depending on the model. For the best quality electric two-wheeler models contact Dani Motor.

UMass Boston Hosts the 2023 Tribal and Indigenous Health Summit
Tribal and Indigenous Leaders, Health Advocates, and Regional, State, and Local Representatives from across New England Gathered for the Inaugural Summit
On September 28, 2023, theInstitute for Community Inclusion (ICI) joined the Tribal and Indigenous Health Summit, led by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health.
Elizabeth Solomon, Elder of Massachusett Tribe at Ponkapoag, opened the Summit with a Tribal land acknowledgement, and welcomed attendees to her territory. Tribal Chair Brian Weeden of the Mashpee Wampanaog Tribe led the group in prayer. UMass Boston is on the traditional land of Massachusett people.
Throughout the day, Tribal and Indigenous leaders and others talked about mental health, the COVID-19 response, public health data, and substance abuse prevention, treatment, recovery, and harm reduction in Tribal and Indigenous communities.
Chairwoman Cheryl Andrew-Maltais of the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe of Gay Head addressed the audience in her Keynote speech:
“Miraculously, through our strength, courage, and resiliency, we’re here today to make positive changes in our Tribal communities’ health…By working together, we can build a better healthcare system for our people. By listening to us and our traditional cultural knowledge and incorporating our traditional medicinal practices, we can develop effective means to have better healthcare outcomes for our peoples.”

Several staff and faculty from ICI and the School for Global Inclusion and Social Development (SGISD) attended the Summit to learn about the rich history and strengths, challenges, and health threats facing Tribal and Indigenous communities across the nation. SGISD’s new Director Dr. Tiffany Donaldson expressed gratitude for sharing this space of learning with Tribal leaders:
“I learned so much through our work with Tribal leaders about cultural history and commitment to raising awareness about Native Health inequities and barriers to access. We will continue to partner with Tribal leaders and Indigenous communities to learn about what worked in the COVID pandemic and to promote health and wellness in areas of interest to Native people.”

ICI and SGISD staff also learned about colonialism’s devastating impact on Native health. ICI Senior Research Fellow Dr. Susan Foley was honored to hear from tribal leaders, elders, Native doctoral students, Native researchers, Native mental health providers, Indian Urban Health, Indian Health Services, and Tribal and Indigenous People Serving Organizations. She shared about her learnings and ongoing commitment to advocacy:
“We heard calls for action unequivocally pointing to existing threats to tribal community well-being. As researchers in disability services, we will strongly advocate for more Native disability research capacity and support for Native researchers. We will continue to partner with Dr. Cedric Woods at the Institute for New England Native American Studies on the Native Equity in Employment and Recovery Project, with deep respect and friendship.”
Dr. Cedric Woods is the Director of UMass Boston’s Institute for New England Native American Studies (INENAS) and served on the planning committee for the Summit.
ICI Senior Research Associate Dr. Allison Taylor echoed these sentiments:
“It was a gift to experience the Campus Center Ballroom as a Native space and to be invited as a guest into that space, as we looked out on the land and waters of the Massachusett people. I was struck by the many examples of Native ingenuity, perseverance, and resilience to foster community health and well-being, within a context of ongoing erasure, inequity, and injustice.”

They also talked about how and why they decided to pursue Tribal health professions and what that will mean to the Tribal and Indigenous communities they represent.

Indigenous Peoples' Day
This year, we observe Indigenous Peoples' Day on Monday, October 9. Observing Indigenous Peoples' Day is an act of solidarity with Native Peoples. Indigenous Peoples' Day has replaced Columbus Day in many locales. Christopher Columbus exploited and enslaved Taíno Peoples and appropriated their homelands. Observing Columbus Day celebrates colonialism and memorializes the demographic collapse, enslavement, and attempted erasure of Native Peoples in the Americas.
This October, take some time to learn more about indigenous people and cultures. Here are some additional resources to explore:
