Any serious chronograph has a complex automatic movement (complication), and they were originally designed to function as a stopwatch with a sweep second hand powered by additional gears within that movement. Sure, you can go out there and find a cheap number that looks the part, but there are also affordable versions that are the real deal, as well as watches that cost tens of thousands.
