꧁ Remembering Dixie Locke Emmons (1938-2023)
I'm so heartbroken to hear of Dixie's passing. Just from reading what she shared in her book and through her interviews, I have absolutely no questions as to why both Gladys and Elvis cared for her so deeply, and why she was the first woman that they both really wanted to be apart of their family. She was equally sweet and strong, she loved them something fierce, and she was always there for them whenever they beckoned. Thank you Dixie for opening your life to us and for sincerely cherishing the memories you created with Elvis and Gladys; the love you had for them radiates off the words you wrote, and I really hope you can see them and your son again. Being a fan of Elvis has introduced to me so many people and you are one that I am really glad I got to know 🤍

"I know that, if he were alive, some people would have 150 bullets between their eyes. (Laughs.) You know? And that’s this luxury that I lost, in terms of him being very protective with me. When I was little… I was at a friend’s house one time, and a neighbor said something to me mean about him, and I was so upset that when I went home, I told him. And literally he asked the address and got in the car and he drove to that woman’s house. I don’t know what he said; I don’t know what happened. But I know that he always had my back. And that sort of ceased; I never had that again. So, there are times, I will say, that I really do wish that he were around, because… You’re never not sort of vulnerable. And in trying moments, there are times where I just feel like whoever I’m referring to would have been dead a long time if it were up to him and if he were around, you know?"

"Everyone loves their mother, but I was an only child and my mother was always right with me, all my life, and it wasn't just like losing a mother, it was like losing a friend, a companion, someone to talk to. I could wake her up any hour of the night and, if I was worried or troubled about something, she'd get up and try to help me."

Rest In Peace Beautiful.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Today we gather to remember Gladys Presley, born on April 25, 1912, and tenderly laid to rest on August 4, 1958. At the quiet hour of 3:15 in the morning, her beautiful soul found eternal peace forever leaving a gaping hole in Elvis's heart.
Gladys was a beacon of love and warmth, the heart and soul of our beloved Elvis. Her devotion was boundless, her love unwavering, and her spirit fierce. She was the embodiment of kindness, an enduring protector, and a loyal friend. Her sacrifices, her tireless efforts, and her unwavering commitment to her family shaped the remarkable man Elvis became.
Elvis often spoke of her with deep admiration, recalling how she labored in the fields, picking cotton under the relentless sun just to earn the minimum wage. Elvis would often talk about her with love and admiration talking about how she would soak her arms in buttermilk(butterbutch if you know you know), as a way to avoid the sun's harsh rays. Even when her hard work led to their eviction from government housing—her only fault being her dedication—she continued to persevere with grace and resilience.
In her serious moments, she was a pillar of strength, but she was also known for her humor, her love of music and dancing, and her deep faith, which she lovingly passed on to Elvis. Her nurturing spirit and her joyous heart were the foundation of his growth and success.
Today, we express our gratitude to Gladys for the indelible mark she left on Elvis helping shape him into the beautiful, generous, kind,
Gladys, you are and always will be missed. Thank you for everything you gave us including your son. Rest in peace, forever united with your beautiful boy.
❤️❤️

“She (Gladys) thought I was a good catch for Elvis because I could do all these things and I was from Mississippi and I was crazy about her son. I was healthy looking too so she thought I was perfect breeding stock as we used to say. I was five foot six and a half inches, about 128 pounds. She’d hug me and tell me I was pretty. And she would stroke my face. She was always telling me that Elvis needed someone to take care of him.” -June Juanico (former girlfriend)

November 26, 1954: Elvis is in Houston, Texas, for a concert at the Paladium Club. He sends his parents a telegram. It reads: "Hi babies. Here's the money to pay the bills. Don't tell anyone how much I sent. I will send more next week. There is a card in the mail. Love, Elvis."

ELVIS PRESLEY. C. 1953-1954. Elvis was either 18 or 19 years old in this picture. According to Peter Guralnick, Scotty Moore told he believed this picture was taken when Elvis was in high school or shortly after graduating. This picture was used as one of Elvis' earliest publicity shots.
