I find that Vespera and its ilk puts fainter clusters, nebulae and comets in reach, objects I probably otherwise would never try for under suburban and urban skies. Several wild rivers, fed by the annual snowpack that falls high in the eastern Olympic Mountains spill into Hood Canal.

The canal is home to a variety of plants, mammals, birds, fish and shellfish. The rivers are, as well, plus they offer many beautiful pathways from the saltwater up through lush green lowland forests to the spectacular Olympic high country.

All of this and more is where the rivers run.
