Lewis T Bandt with his 1934 V8 Coupe Ute.
The Coupe Utility was invented by 22 year old Bandt when working with Ford in Geelong after a letter from a Gippsland farmer's wife to Ford in 1933 asking for a vehicle which could take them to church on Sunday and then take pigs to market on Monday.
Bandt's concept integrated elements of cars and trucks to take advantage of the best of both worlds. By redesigning the vehicle's trick bed, he made it larger and improved the vehicle's exterior appearance. He started off by sketching his designs on a 10-meter-long blackboard. For a "truck" that's supposed to look like a "car," his design would allow for a very respectable 545-kilogram payload. Before putting the car into mass production, Ford built and tested two prototypes. The outcome was so good that even Henry Ford praised it. The original Ute came equipped with a V8 engine and a manual transmission with only three gears.
Bandt's innovative solution was a Model 40 with a four-door cab and a wooden truck bed surrounded by smooth panels instead of the usual truck space. It spread like wildfire, and soon everyone in the farming community had one. In the fifteen years that followed, over 22,000 copies were sold, and the ute quickly became a staple of Australian culture.
The lack of a back seat in these coupe utilities was of no consequence. Until the late 1960s, it was common practise in Australia to seat as many people across the front as possible, with those who couldn't be accommodated being given a blanket and cushion to ride in the back.
The ute concept later became very popular in America (initially dubbed "kangaroo chasers") and other areas of the world where it became known as a pickup truck.
The first Holden utility, the 50/2106, was released in 1951, the lines between coupes and utilities began to blur even more.

What is Respite Care?
If you’re caring for someone with disability, respite care can provide short-term accommodation and support. It can be for overnight, a few days or longer as arranged with the service provider.
However, it is important for PriFams to find a trustworthy service. Here are some tips to help you find a good respite care traralgon.
How long can a person stay at respite services in Traralgon?
The duration of respite care can vary depending on the individual’s needs and the type of care that is available. It is important to discuss this with a health care professional and find out what services are available.
Respite care can take many forms, from having an aide visit your home for a few hours each week to moving someone into an adult day care centre or a residential respite care home for a few weeks or longer. It can also be used to help someone through a transitional period like adjusting to new medications or moving from one type of care to another.
The length of time you stay at respite care will depend on how much support you need, how available your primary carer is and whether you have any funds available. There are a range of funding options, including NDIS packages, private insurance and government programmes. Short-term respite care usually lasts for a few days or weeks, and long-term respite care can be funded up to 63 days in total.
Where can a person go for a day out?
Melba Support offers a homely respite care Gippsland setting for people with disability to enjoy short term accommodation and support. The person you care for will enjoy their own room and a range of activities in our welcoming community. The person may stay for an overnight stay, a few days or for as long as the service provider and the person agree. The respite home has comfortable lounge and dining areas, tasteful decorations and indoor planting to help create a homely environment. We also offer an exciting lifestyle program including cognitive activities, music, day trips and movies. We provide an individualised approach to each person’s needs and preferences.
How long can a person stay at a respite home near Morwell?
Being a caregiver can be a full-time job, especially for those providing round-the-clock care for a sick or elderly family member. This can take its toll, so it’s important for caregivers to take a break. That’s where respite services come in handy. Respite care can take many forms, from a home visit by an aide to moving a loved one into a permanent residential care home.
The duration of respite care can vary between different types of care. The length of a respite stay can also be influenced by the needs of the person receiving care, as well as the caregiver’s needs.
For example, Melba Support offers short respite stays at our warm and welcoming respite homes. Our staff often enjoy taking their supported people on fun days out around Morwell, such as a trip to Princes Drive for a coffee or to Peter Siddle Oval to watch the local cricket. In addition, community respite care is available for those who may not need a full-time placement but do require occasional care.
Why choose Melba Support?
Caring for someone can be a rewarding experience, but it can also be emotionally draining and exhausting. It is important to take regular breaks from caregiving responsibilities to maintain your own physical and mental well-being. These services provide a safe, comfortable, and relaxing environment for your loved one while you take some time to yourself.

Health boss accused of cash misuse
The chairman of one of Victoria's rural health services, who was dumped yesterday along with the rest of his board, has been accused of inappropriately using more than $100,000 of hospital funds.
Health Minister Bronwyn Pike dismissed the 11-member board of the Central Gippsland Health Service following claims made to the Ombudsman that chairman Allan Wain used about $103,000 to pay for telephone costs, car hire and business-class flights to Dubai and several other destinations over three years.
A highly distressed Dr Wain from Dubai told last night that he felt "demoralised" by the turn of events. "These assertions are so grotesquely wrong," he said. Dr Wain said he had been a resident of Tehran and Dubai for six years, and did not conceal this information. He said he owned a joint venture with the Iranian Government, a development and finance company called QFA. He regularly returned to Sale for board meetings at the hospital's insistence.
"If I didn't have those board meetings, I wouldn't be travelling back to Sale," he said. "That is why this is so wrong. All of those costs are associated only with hospital business. I feel as though I have so badly impacted such good people on the board. They have done nothing wrong." The deposed board last night issued a statement saying it was "devastated and shocked" by the dismissal. It is the first time the Bracks Government has sacked a hospital board. Sources wondered why the Government appointed someone based overseas to chair the board of a local hospital. But he has been told that when Dr Wain reapplied for his post he said he lived in Sale. There are also allegations that the service, which runs hospitals in Sale, Maffra and Heyfield, signed a 21-year lease to use property owned by Dr Wain's wife to accommodate trainee staff. Ms Pike said the controversy would not affect hospital services. She said the allegations came on top of inability by the board to manage its finances, despite having received about $8 million in additional State Government funding over the past few years. It recorded a $2.5 million deficit in 2002-03. She justified the sacking on the basis of financial mismanagement, and because the board was unaware of Dr Wain's alleged misappropriations. She also slammed chief executive Leona Mann for signing off on the expenditure. Ms Mann, who has resigned, did not return calls. "This is a very serious action, and it is warranted to maintain the confidence in the public in the governance of our health services," Ms Pike said. "The board was unaware that these payments had been made. The board was also unaware that there had been some inappropriate instructions by the board chair to the CEO about management of staff." Medical staff supported the board. The chairman of the medical staff group, Dr Peter Goss, said: "This is not natural justice, this is a disgrace." But another source said it was "preposterous" and "outrageous" that the hospital had paid for Dr Wain to commute from overseas when it did not have enough money to treat patients. The Government appointed Yarram and District Health Service executive director Peter Craighead to run the service. Opposition health spokesman David Davis said he supported the decision to sack the board and investigate further. The Ombudsman notified the Government of the claims against Dr Wain after a complaint about management and governance at the service. Ms Pike wrote to board members last week and gave them a week to show why they should not be removed. It is expected Mr Craighead will refer the matter to police.

if I was to completely change my life, my dream is to move somewhere dog friendly with ample tourism locations like hiking trails, wineries, cafes, beaches, parks etc. and open a tour company for tourists with their pets. i’m thinking it could work in SA (adelaide hills or fleurieu penninsula), Vic (great ocean road or gippsland), NSW (hunter region or south coast) or WA (margaret river). potentially also Tas or Qld but i am less familiar with those states.
i think this is the prime time to start a business like this because the pet-related tourism industry is only just taking off in australia and there is huge demand for services like pet friendly accommodation and pet sitting. it would require making connections with local businesses and councils, but it could be a really strong idea focused on small groups on day trips.
i like my life and job as is in an industry completely separate from dogs, but i do sometimes think about this as a new endeavour. it would take a huge amount of money though. on the one hand all you need is a dog-safe van and business/insurance costs, but it would also require some qualification in animals to look reputable, which is too expensive and time consuming to obtain for me, even as a side hustle (would need like a cert ii-iv minimum and that takes a year plus thousands of dollars BEFORE any business costs).
there is no way to achieve this idea in the territory imo because it’s just completely the wrong environment – too hot/humid during the day and pretty much 99% of parkland bans dogs. so it remains an unattainable dream unless i run into a lot of money or my life here blows up for whatever reason. 🤷🏼♀️

Hide House, Venus Bay Victoria

Hide House in Victoria

Design: MRTN Architects
Location: Venus Bay Beach, South Gippsland, Victoria, Australia

Hide House, Venus Bay
Venus Bay is located in South Gippsland, a narrow peninsula of land with Bass Strait the southwest and Anderson’s Inlet to the northeast. Hide House in Venus Bay is located on the crest of a sand dune amongst coastal Tea Tree. The house enjoys views to the waterways of the inlet to the north and the grassy tidal plains to the east while turning its back to the strong predominant south westerly winds that are a common feature of the area.
Hide House is a retreat from Melbourne, a place where the owners can spend increasing periods of time living and working from Venus Bay. However, during summers and holidays the home needs to comfortably accommodate friends and family. Guest bedrooms, bunkroom and living space are located on the lower level while the upper level contains the main living spaces and owners’ bedroom. The sculptural form of the house is created by the assemblage of a curved upper level placed on and over a lower rectilinear volume.
The elevated views are a significant feature of the site; a mise-en-scène of constantly unfolding action created by the shadows of clouds passing overhead, migrating birds, roaming cattle and mobs of kangaroos passing through. Savouring the view with minimal disturbance was important to the clients and informed the design of the house from the outset. The home is an embodiment of the ‘bird hides’ or ‘look-outs’ in the local area that provide access to views of birds and wildlife while remaining concealed in the landscape.
The two forms are clad in sustainably harvested Silvertop Ash cladding, a fine shiplap board for the upper volume and a more rusticated inverse board and batten for the lower volume. The outside face of the arc turns its back to south-westerly winds and protects from afternoon sun. The elevated volume creates a sequence of sheltered external spaces and frames views through to the landscape beyond.
The bird hide typology was again referenced in the centrally located family dining area. In lieu of an exterior deck that would have been very exposed to the elements and potentially obscure views to beyond, the dining and kitchen are conceived as an outdoor room that can be open to the view and elements with an oversized sliding window. The Spotted Gum materiality of the space reinforces the indoor-outdoor nature of this room and further references the immersive timber spaces and long horizontal openings typical of the bird hide shelters.
All heating and cooking is powered by fossil fuel-free, highly energy-efficient appliances and heat pump technologies. The house is not connected to mains gas, sewer or water supply. Timber cladding is sustainably harvested and milled Silvertop Ash, which also meets the bushfire attack level requirements of the site. All rainwater is collected, ceiling fans and high operable windows create a comfortable thermal environment.

What Are The Incredible Benefits Of a Solar Panel?
Solar panels are devices used to absorb energy from the sun to generate heat and, in many cases, electricity. It is also known as a Solar Bairnsdale cell because it consists of many cells used to convert the light of the sun into electricity. The only raw material for these solar modules is the sun.
The cells are configured to face the sun to maximize the absorption of the sun's rays. The greater the energy of the sun, the more electricity it produces. Solar panels are used in many homes around the world because they have far more advantages than disadvantages.
Some of these advantages are described below:
A very important advantage of using Solar Panels Gippsland is that they do not emit the gas that is common in greenhouses. The panel does not emit smoke, chemicals, or heavy metals that can pose risk factors for human health. This is very important because carbon emissions are dangerous and preventing them will help protect our current and future environment.
Environmental friendliness is important because the government is constantly looking for ways to control global warming and the use of solar panels is a good place to start. Therefore, Solar Bairnsdale panels ensure a clean environment and provide fresh air. More importantly, they help prevent many cancer cases. This is because some products from energy sources such as nuclear power are said to cause cancer by initiating mutations in cells.
Second, the use of solar panels guarantees continuous free energy for those who use them. This is mainly due to installation costs only. Once installed, energy is released as no regular maintenance or fuel is required to run the panel. Also, no raw materials are required for its operation.
It works as long as there is a sunbeam that is common in most parts of the world. This is very important in a world where the fair distribution of resources is constantly required, as everyone has equal rights to the use of solar energy. Because the energy of the sun falls on everyone. This is a great method for maintaining equality compared to energy from fossil fuels, and in many cases, there is no margin.
Solar panels create employment opportunities. This is very important because today there are very high unemployment rates around the world. These tasks are done in the form of solar panel manufacturing, further improvement, maintenance, development and cultural integration research. These jobs are guaranteed because the sun is continuously present and this device is constantly being improved and changed.
Occupations such as maintenance and installation do not require years of training and are more advantageous for low-skilled people and the unemployed. Solar Bairnsdale panels do not tend to be destroyed by harsh environmental conditions. Because of this, since they are not easily destroyed, the device is located outside to accommodate solar lines. Good things are to be able to use by people living in the area where the weather is up and down.
All of these are fantastic advantages to using solar panels. Solar Panels Gippsland can be used in a variety of settings, including schools, houses, and businesses.

My home country is burning and our leader is being more of a useless dickhead than usual. Gippsland is apocalyptic and ScoMo is faffing on about cricket inspiring the fireys.
Fortunately, two major phone companies have waived fees in the affected areas. Air BnB’s are offering free accommodation to firefighters. Communities are banding together to help everybody as best they can.
It’s unnerving going to work and not knowing if your home will still be standing when you come back. That I may not get to celebrate my next birthday in the house I’ve lived in most of my life.
The worse case scenario is if the NSW and Gippsland fires merge, it will become a “megafire”...and the East coast will be fucked. Unfortunately, the chances of this happening are increasing.
Welcome to Australia…
Where an already endangered species is on the brink of functional extinction…
Oh, and 500 million animals unique to this country have already lost their lives, upon homes that have been destoryed and lives lost of people as well…
I mean… we’re only living in a literal inferno…
415 fires. Fuck are we dying…
Oh yeah and people are just fleeing to the damn ocean, you know?
Do you want to know what Hell on Earth looks like..?
Because there it is in all it’s unfiltered, firey rage…
There it is… my home from space…
This is only the beginning. Our country has not only entered a new decade, it seems a new dawning era as well, because this flaming apocalypse doesn’t show any sign of stopping any time soon.
And you know what saddens me? I’ve never seen Australian tragedies trending here on this website. I mean it’s been going on for months and only now does it seem to really be getting recognized, even if it is only at #9.
And I’m going to be honest with you here - the internet, and media in general is so American centric, this website being no exception. You’d think that an entire continent being on fire for several months with devastating consequences would have more recognition, but no, it really doesn’t. The most notes I’ve ever seen on a post about the Australian fires is at least a few thousand, and that’s about it.
So just… please. If you can, with this post or any other post in regards to the fires going on down here, reblog. Because the only thing that should be spreading like wildfire, is a post about a burning country…
