Plant of the Day

An easy to care for succulent Curio rowleyanus (string of beads) is found in the dinning room setting of the Giant Houseplant Takeover in the glasshouse of the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Wisley, Surrey, including ‘exploding’ from a champagne bottle and cascading from furniture. The rounded, fleshy, bead-like leaves thrive in bright light and require reduced watering in the winter with temperatures above 10C. The horticulturists have had fun here with lots of creativity on display and the visitors of all ages love it!

Plant of the Day
Monday 9 March 2020
Earlier in my horticultural career I knew this tropical, evergreen climber as Scindapsus aureus but now it goes by the botanical name of Epipremnum aureum (golden pothos, Ceylon creeper, ivy arum, money plant, silver vine, Solomon Islands ivy, marble queen, devil's ivy). It is a popular houseplant as it tolerates low light levels and climbs by means of aerial roots which will attach to a range of surfaces. This member of the arum family, Araceae, is native to Mo'orea in the Society Islands of French Polynesia. As part of the Giant Houseplant Takeover in the glasshouse of the Royal Horticultural Society Garden Wisley, Surrey, Epipremnum aureum was enjoying life by climbing up the staircase!
