9 Fascinating Facts About Angelina Jolie
Tumblr media
Photo By: Flickr, Source, CC What is interesting about Angelina Jolie? Born Angelina Jolie Voight in Los Angeles, California, Jolie was immersed in the acting craft because her parents, Jon Voight and Marcheline Bertrand, were both in the biz. At the tender age of 11, Jolie began studying at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, and by 16, she was modeling and appearing in music videos. Angelina Jolie is one of the most accomplished and talented actresses to grace Hollywood. She began her illustrious career over two decades ago, and in that time she has gone on to win multiple awards, including an Academy Award. Here are some fascinating facts about Angelina Jolie that may surprise you. 1. She Refused to Marry Brad Pitt, Until it Was Legal For All Jolie and Pitt began dating back in 2005 after starring together in the movie Mr. & Mrs. Smith. They got engaged in 2012 but never legally wed due to their strong convictions that same sex couples should have the right to marry as well. They eventually married in 2014, once same-sex couples had the right to wed. 2. She Has a Degree in English Literature In addition to being an award-winning actress, Jolie is also an accomplished student. After graduating from Beverly Hills High School in 1991, she moved to New York and enrolled at New York University. She earned a degree in English Literature in 2002. 3. She Once Purchased a Zoo One of Jolie’s many philanthropic pursuits is animal conservation. In 2003, she purchased a zoo in her native country of Cambodia and devoted her energy to caring for the animals. She currently resides in the zoological park, where she helps protect endangered species from poachers and other threats. 4. She Is the World’s Highest Paid Actress Jolie is not just one of the highest paid actresses in Hollywood, she is the highest paid actress in the world. According to Forbes, in 2019 she took home a staggering $35.5 million, making her the highest-grossing female performer on Earth. 5. She Used to Work as a Model Before beginning her acting career in the early 1990s, Jolie briefly worked as a professional model. This led to her appearing in a commercial for Natural élevation soft drinks in the early 1990s. 6. She Is of Part French Descent It may surprise some to know that Angelina Jolie is part French. Her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, was born to French-Canadian parents and raised in Chicago as a Canadian citizen. This means that Angelina is one-eighth French. 7. She Is a Published Author In addition to her film and modeling endeavors, Jolie is also an accomplished author. She has written a number of children’s books, as well as articles for major publications such as The New York Times. 8. She Wasn’t Always a Successful Actress Though she is now one of the most successful actresses in Hollywood, this wasn’t always the case for Jolie. She had her share of disappointments early in her career, with movies such as Hackers and Mojave Moon not doing well. It was only after her break-out role in 1998’s Gia that Hollywood began to take notice of Jolie’s immense talent. 9. She Is a Proud Mother of Six Jolie and her former partner, Brad Pitt, are parents to six children—Maddox, Zahara, Shiloh, twins Knox and Vivienne, and Pax. All six of these children have been adopted from various countries throughout the world, including Cambodia, Ethiopia, and Vietnam. Jolie has had an amazing career and life story, which is reflected in each of these fascinating facts. Whether it’s her philanthropic pursuits or her award-winning performances, Jolie continues to be one of the most inspirational figures in movies and beyond. Read the full article

Meanwhile, C.W. (F. Murray Abraham) reconciles some unresolved issues from his past, the testers (Ashly Burch and Imani Hakim) test the bounds of an office romance, and David (David Hornsby) loses yet another woman in his life as Jo (Jessie Ennis) leaves him to assist Brad (Danny Pudi).
Shrill S3
The third season of Shrill, the TV series from Aidy Bryant, Alexandra Rushfield, and Lindy West, is out today.
Everything finally seems to be falling into place for Annie—she’s managed to dump her man-child boyfriend, catch the eye of a powerful new mentor, and snag some high-profile assignments—so why isn’t everything clicking? Sometimes life’s big challenge isn’t getting what you want, it’s knowing what you want.

Midnight: Chapter 16
My head was pounding as I came to. The room was dark and as I pulled on my hands, I quickly realized they were cuffed. I yanked and yanked trying to get free. I try to call energy to me so I would have enough strength to break chains or at the very least cut them off but nothing happens.
This is where I panic.
My powers were an innate part of me. Something I could always feel and gather at any point and time, and now I couldn’t. It was like I could feel it gathering, but couldn’t discharge it.
 “What in the hell?!”
I pulled at my cuffs as my brain tries to fragment together how this happened and pieces of it flow until it becomes cohesive.
It couldn’t have been her.
I hadn’t seen her in years...
Was it?
A voice from the pitch blackness startled me. I did my best not to visibly jump.
“Ahh good to see you are awake Ms. Smith. One of our greatest successes returned home. Sorry about the painful extraction but it  was the only way to bring you back to us.”
The light flips on and it becomes obvious that I am in a laboratory, strapped to a metal table. A man is standing in a booth that is high up, and I cannot see his face, only a shadowy outline of him. I was sure this was by design and it was clearly an operating room. I panic more but ask.
“Who are you and what the fuck do you want?”
I growled it out. I wanted him to understand that I was pissed. He tsk’s at me and speaks again
“Oh my dear did you forget all your home training that quick? I guess we'll just have to remind you.”
The man says and suddenly sharp electric pain zings through me. Making me grind my teeth and pull painfully against the straps holding me to the chair. In reality it was only seconds that it lasted but it felt like forever when all of your nerve endings were on fire.
 “Fuck!”
I yell.
“Language Ms. Smith.”
The pain zings through me again and I feel tears run from my eyes and the pain stops quickly again.
“Who are you and what do you want?”
I try again for my power but nothing manifests.
“Do you like my little gift? These are neutralizing cuffs. It stops that cute little thing you can do with your hands. There will be no swords for you tonight.”
I glared at the figure. I could do so much more than that. It let me know that he didn’t have a clue.
“Awe come now puppet don’t look so sad. You will get your powers back soon, but for now we need to do a little systematic reconditioning...”
 Meanwhile:
Clark was nervous. He didn’t like the idea of Gia of going to work without anyone physically in the building. He couldn’t and wouldn’t intrude on her space and what she felt she needed to do to be away from him. She had every right not to want him around. Look at the mess he had made of her life. He loved her beyond words but he couldn’t force her to love him back. It didn’t mean he didn’t want every opportunity to make it up to her though.  He knew Victor was keeping and eye on her all night and he said she left work about an hour ago, so why wasn’t she back at the manor yet?
He tries to listen for her voice nearby or anything the indicates she is close but hears nothing, not even the soft hum of her car.
Kalen is sleeping soundly so he slips the small child away from him and slide off of the bed to    go on the patio, after pulling doing a quick change into his Superman suit and takes off to the sky following the road she should be on to get home. His ears are immediately assaulted with the sound of police and fire trucks as he flies and his heart begins to race as he hears the commotion and finds himself at the scene of a crash. It takes him only a moment to make sense that this is Gia’s car that is on fire.
He pushes through the crowd and walks to the car disregarding the yells and yanking the flaming door from the hinges. She was not in there and he turned to the crowd. He turns to the nearest police officer who seems to be in awe of Superman being that close to him.  Clark yanks the cop forward by the lapels.
“Was anyone removed from this car?!”
Faced with the frantic ire of Superman, he shakes his head no. Clark let’s go of him and looks around trying to spot her face in the small crowd of cops and first respondents but there's no one.
“Gia!!!!! Gia!!!!!”
He is calling her name frantically, but with no response.
He tried to listen for her but there was nothing and that was what scared him. He takes off pushing himself as fast as he can back to manor. Bruce never locked the door and Clark would have just knocked it down anyway in his frantic state.
 “Bruce!!!”
He yells and the caped crusader comes down the steps, Alfred in tow, who also had been alerted as soon the front door was opened.
 “Gia is missing!!!!”
Alfred immediately takes off to send an alert to the other team members. Bruce does his best to calm down Clark.
“I can’t hear her or see her...she...I can’t hear her heartbeat...”
Bruce was worried, this was the first time he saw Clark lose his head. If that wasn’t an indicator of his feelings for the short firecracker that entered their lives a short time ago, then he didn’t know what was.
He could let the man he called a friend and at one point an enemy go crazy however. It would not bode well for anyone. He knew first hand that Clark was a force when not in his right mind.
“Clark...Clark calm down. Why do you think she is missing?”
Clark shakes his head trying to expand his hearing as far as he could to try and hear the heartbeat or voice he was so attuned to.
“Only that your car is a fiery wreck about 10 miles out and she was not in it. It’s not like she could have been car jacked. She is gone Bruce.”
“Okay we will find her, but you are no help to her if you go off crazed and half cocked. Besides your son will need you.”
The thought of Kalen snaps him out of his slightly manic state.
He climbs the stairs in Kalen’s direction. Kalen has moved in his sleep, legs and arms wild as most children do at that age. Relieved that his yelling hadn’t awoken his son, he worries for him. What if they couldn’t find Gia?  He didn’t want his son to grow up without his mother. He didn’t want to be without either. To live in a world without her in it would be agonizing.
He hears Barry’s quick arrival and Bruce sends him to search the surrounding areas around the crash. Victor has arrived as well, and was trying to find footage.
“Clark, I found something.” He calls Clark from downstairs no louder than normal as to not to wake the child.
He tucks the toddler tight into his bed and heads downstairs. He finds Bruce, Diana and Victor in the surveillance room. Diana comes over and hugs the superhero, and Victor nods in greeting  before launching into what he found.
“ It took a little time but I was able to tap into one of the government’s satellites. I found this.”
The team watches as someone steps from the side of the road directly into the path of Gia’s car. They watch the scene unfold, Clark praying the entire time that she was surviving this ordeal. The image of her trying to get away only to be punched and then dragged away in the back of a plain black van with no plates or identifiable marks. It sends anger searing through his veins, he had never felt the need to hurt someone so bad. To hurt one of the people he loved most was a crime punishable by severe pain in his eyes.
He needed to find her and he needed to find her quickly...
 *5 days later*
“Clark baby you have to eat.”
Martha Kent had just put Kalen down for a nap and was now sitting with her solemn son.
“I am not hungry.”
Clark was downright depressed from not being able to find Gia. He wouldn’t shaved, called out from work, and baths were strictly in and out affairs meant to placate everyone else. He was devoted to everything he had to his finding Gia and being there for their son. He spent endless amounts of time flying around, stalking criminals to find out what they knew.
Nobody he found knew anything. Thankfully he had help with Kalen because he had quickly learned he was out his depth with being a parent...
 *A few Days ago*- Flashback
“Come on Kalen son you have got to eat. Can you be a big boy and eat the hot dog for your old man please.”
Clark was not a beggar but he was exhausted and this was not helping. He and Kalen had a great father-son relationship, but at the end of the day Kalen was still a toddler that liked to push the limits of his boundaries and his father’s patience.
 “NO!!!”
Clark had taken Kalen back to his mother’s house  for some normality and was currently trying his best to get his son to eat something but it was not working out. He flat out refused to eat the plain hot dog placed in front of him. He was loud and upset, Clark knew it was because Gia’s presence was missing and Kalen didn’t know how to express that without a temper tantrum much like he was doing now.
Frustrated he felt the heat build between his eyes, threatening to shoot into the nearby wall.  He pinches the space between his brows so the heat didn’t shoot from them and hopefully dissipates the impending headache. He had only been a father for a couple weeks and he didn’t have any clue what he was doing wrong or right. He needed Gia back, they were meant to do this together. She had always been his balance and now she was gone.
Martha had been trying to let her son handle this by staying out of the way and letting him be the father. It was clear as she walked into the kitchen that Clark was struggling.
 “G’ma!!!”
Kalen shouts happily and claps his hands together.
“My sunshine! Why aren’t you eating?”
She asks and the response is to push the plate away.
“Alright let’s see if I can get you something you will eat.”
She grabs up the plate, takes the hot dog from the bun, tosses the bun away, and Clark watches as she cuts it up, covers it in ketchup then sits it down in front of the toddler, who then proceeds to eat the food.
Much to Clark’s chagin and mild disbelief.
“Am I ever going to get the hang of this?”
“Yes. It just takes patience son. For the record I had the same problem with you growing up. Your father and I were nervous at first because you wouldn’t eat. We honestly got scared you required some kind of alien food that we had no potential to get our hands on. Irrational I know, but still a real fear. You will just have to take your time and learn your son. I’m sure Gia had to do the same thing.”
Clark looks down at his feet for a moment.
“ Yes but she is Gia. Gia is...she is in a whole other realm of unbelievable.  He needs his mother.”
He says missing her voice, looking out the screen door at the farm. He doesn’t admit out loud that he needs her too.
“And you will find her. If I know anything about you Son is that you are determined. I know you will find her.”
She pats him on the shoulder and goes back over to Kalen at the table.
 *End flashback*
Clark still had no leads and grew more desperate by the second. He wanted nothing more than to find her. He wanted to tell her that he wanted everything with her. This wasn’t some sort of get back game with Lois. He wanted to stand in front of her as a man and declare his feelings. He wanted to raise their son together (maybe even have a few more). He wanted to give her the fairytale just like he wanted for them.
He couldn’t do any of that without her...
“Clark son, you are no good to Gia if you die because you aren’t taking care of yourself. In fact I know she would be good and mad if you die and she did all of that to bring you back.”
They both give a small chuckle at knowing how her temper could be set off, especially when she thought Clark was being stupid.
Before he could respond his cell phone rings and Bruce’s name lights up across the screen.
 “Kent.”
“Clark we think we’ve got something...”
A/N: YES I know its short and not much character movement but I felt this was important to show. I hope to have the next chapter up sometime this week because baby let me tell y'all the stuff I have coming up for this is going to be great!

Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted
What does one make of DreamWorks Animation as a film studio? Founded in 1994 by Jeffrey Katzenberg as part of DreamWorks overall alongside Steven Spielberg and David Geffen to specifically to compete with Katzenberg’s former bosses and co-workers at Disney for king of the animated feature box office, 25+ years later, it now sits comfortably in Comcast’s library of acquisitions and continuing to make films and streaming TV series by the truckload. But what exactly is the essence of it? It’s hard to look at a film or series from them and say it is recognizably DreamWorksian in the same way one can pinpoint a Disney or Pixar film at a glance. They have made many TYPES of films, for one, many of them great in varied artistic modes: The Prince of Egypt is one of the best American animated features of all time; Shrek remains both a charming parody and cleverer than it’s given credit for in regards to social commentary; Kung Fu Panda is a legitimately excellent and rousing martial arts film (and 2 might be even better); How To Train Your Dragon has a terrific coming-of-age story at its center with one of the best dragons in all of cinema; and so on and so forth. Even their bad films like Bee Movie or, god help us all, Shark Tale are fascinating to dissect and discuss. And perhaps the most oddball franchise they’ve had remains the funny-animal-comedy series Madagascar, the third film of which we’ll discuss today.
Picking up after the events of the second film, Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, the film opens with Alex the Lion (Ben Stiller), Marty the Zebra (Chris Rock), Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer), and Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith) awaiting the return of the penguins, who’ve taken the party plane for a gambling spree alongside the chimps in Monaco. All are eager to return home to New York City’s Central Park Zoo and going a little stir-crazy. This is somewhat contrary to the conclusion of the last film, where they seemed rather content in Africa with Alex’s biological family who are nowhere in sight or mentioned here; then again, this series waited until film 2 to reveal Melman’s apparently lifelong crush on Gloria, so continuity is perhaps not its strongest suit at all times. Either way, Alex gets bothered enough by the others’ absence that they decide to set off with King Julien (Sacha Baron Cohen) and the other lemurs to find the penguins, which sets off wacky shenanigans and the arrival of our villain for the piece, the frighteningly competent and ultra-French animal control officer Chantal DuBois (Frances McDormand). Eventually, they find their way to a circus train with animals like Gia the cheetah (Jessica Chastain), Vitaly the Tiger (Bryan Cranston, affecting an amusingly outrageous Russian accent), and Stefano the sea lion (Martin Short, doing a very Mario Bros. style performance); thinking quickly, the zoosters lie and say they’re circus animals to get in their good graces, decide to end up helping the circus to try and get them a big tour in America, and you can probably guess how things go from there.
But as the great Roger Ebert always liked to say, it’s not what a movie’s about, but how it’s about it. And the Madagascar films have always married predictable family film plots with charming character dynamics, a unique art style, and terrific comedy setpieces, which all reach their highest point here. I’ve seen a lot of Wacky Chase Scenes in American animated films, but the one that develops in Monaco, with DuBois’ terrifying implacability (quoth Julien after she breaks through walls and windows Terminator-style: “this lady is really starting to freak me out”), lines of dialogue like “Zebras can’t drive! Only penguins and people can drive!”, or details like a banana-powered turret gun, might be one of the best I’ve seen in terms of comedy escalation. And while some of the character sideplots are stronger than others (Alex and Gia’s budding romance has its fleeting charms, but is fairly rote), there ARE those genuine strengths.
For instance, the penguins remain hilarious in their dogged enthusiasm for action heroics and seeming indifference to the potentially fatal consequences of such (which would reach its own apex in their equally charming solo film) with ideas like Kowalski’s nuclear reactor engine. Vitaly regaining his confidence as a circus animal manages to be surprisingly moving through Cranston’s performance, layering in old regrets and remembered dream as he comes to a new triumph. And Julien gets what is easily his best subplot in the series through his romance with the realistic-looking bear Sonya (Frank Welker) that proves gut-busting and then oddly touching by turns. DuBois is also a fantastic villain, both funny and genuinely menacing in ways the series hadn’t really done before. The foosa in the first film were a not-terribly-threatening hivemind, while 2′s Makunga is mostly a comedy sleaze, though there was some amusement to the old woman Nana proving to be a wily badass. DuBois, meanwhile, marries the best of both worlds: threatening enough to prove genuinely chilling in her fervent desire to mount Alex’s head on her wall, but not so immovable that she can’t suffer some comedy humiliations (her ultimate fate is the best callback possible).
The visuals also genuinely pop, with terrific graphic character animation throughout (the staccato movements of the penguins nearly always leave me in fits laughing, and DuBois is the pinnacle of this style for exaggerated Looney Tunes-style human motion), great off-kilter choices and angles for moments like Vitaly’s flashbacks, and some nicely psychedelic colors mixed with abstract blackness in the circus performances. The voice acting is also solid from top the bottom, with the series regulars in a comfortable group chemistry by now (I especially enjoy Stiller’s Alex since he melds both parts of the standard Stiller personas, neurotic anxiety and theatrical ego, into something fresh), and the new performers all acquit themselves ably. In particular, Chastain all but disappears into the perky accent, and McDormand seems to have been totally game for anything the writers threw at her like her ridiculous accent or a stirring yet deeply strange in context performance of Non je regrette rien.
I suppose one could say there are “flaws”: the bog-standard third act misunderstanding is perhaps a little obligatory, if well-executed, and it does lead to a nicely stark moment where the zoosters reflect on how much their experiences have changed them while they look at what used to be their home. And anyone who’s not a fan of wacky frenetic American animated comedy will find much to induce headaches here, though thankfully the infamous “Afro Circus” song is only here in brief spots. But Madagascar 3 might be one of my favorite DreamWorks sequels purely for its inventiveness and comfort in going to some admirably weird places for a kiddie franchise film. For that, I can’t help but give it a hearty recommendation.

Burning for You
Klaroline AU Week 2019 is here, catch me sneaking this in under the wire. Thank you @itsnotacrimetoloveyou for getting my author juices flowing again.
Read on AO3
Growing up when giants walked the earth Caroline often felt older than she truly was. That being said being reborn often made her feel exactly her age. Stranding slowly, her head fuzzy with the details, she glanced around her store and groaned. The scorched tile and ashes of where her store had been made sense. Feeling her chest, she felt the healing wound on her chest. Bullet wound, wood by the fact she’d rebirthed so quickly. Humans had the most entertaining toys to play with, holding out her hand she absorbed the residual flames and heat back into her body. If anyone had been around to notice it, they would have seen the briefest glimpse of fiery wings rising behind the naked blonde.
Taking a deep breath, she started moving through the rubble of her jewelry store for anything of value to take with her. Since she’d most likely be considered dead from a mysterious fire, it was time to leave Mystic Falls. After recovering a hundred pieces of gold and silver gemstone encrusted pieces, she took a deep breath and in a swirl of blue fire disappeared from the rubble, just as sirens started to pour in.
Unbeknownst to Caroline someone had been watching her stumble through her former store. Someone who had been looking for the being that couldn’t be killed by a weapon of man nor flame of the gods. A man who was bent on controlling or killing the powerful beings in creation. Someone who believed himself to be the most powerful creature to walk the earth. Klaus Mikaelson stalked from the shadows across the Mystic Falls square his suspicion confirmed.
People had murmured his entire immortal life of the powers of rejuvenation and destruction a Phenix controlled. A nice bedtime story for those who needed a miracle or a plea of vengeance. Then the alters had started popping up, about six hundred years ago or so. Whispers saying that if one left a vibrant gemstone, or something of equal beauty the Auroral Phenix would answer their prayer. Klaus had dismissed it as the blithering tales of human’s hell bent on praying for anyone to save them or protect them.
Then his minions had started pouring in stories of villages being burned down the day after an opal or precious stone had been left at one of these alters in the woods. Soon more stories came in of the sick miraculously healing. Abusers of women and children, catching fire spontaneously while walking through the town after a doll from a little girl or toy cart from a little boy had been left with pleas for help. Yet no one saw anything but a burst pretty petite blonde near the location of every occurrence. Soon his interest was piqued, Rebekah and Elijah had amused his curiosity to an extent.
Caroline reappeared five thousand miles away in her villa ruins of Despotiko. While she could have reappeared anywhere, her family home was were her body always pulled following a rebirth, over the last two thousand years she’d given up on resisting the pull. Despotiko was protected and a national archaeological site for the Greeks. Whether or not they’d ever actually owned it or not was of little matter at this point, the ancient history of man and nymphs lost to time. Once islands across the Mediterranean had been known to be sanctuaries for the children of the gods. Walking through the broken pillars to where she could look out over the bay, she closed her eyes.
Lots of mythos surrounded her people but, in the end, she was the last one left. Shapeshifting hadn’t protected them as much as Helios and Hephaestus had hoped. Man was a cruel race willing to destroy anything it didn’t feel it could control or conquer adequately. Rolling her shoulders, she walked over to her mother’s chest, that she had here masked by magic and careful misdirection. There were sentimental things, like her mother’s molting plumage which never faded, an aquamarine pendent in the shape of a tear, as well as practical things like clothes and weapons. Grabbing her gear, she got dressed quickly. Placing the gems and jewelry she’d recovered from the remnants of Rising Jewelers ashes into the box she placed her hands on the chest and said a prayer to her father to protect her from whatever was chasing her.
She like her mother, was child of an air nymph and the sun god Helios. Nymphs who bore a Phenix didn’t survive the birth, so most Phenix’s lived with an older member of the flock until maturity which was between six hundred and eight hundred years old. While they rarely stayed in human forms, their avian forms in the end had been their undoing.
As humans had realized that they were demi-gods or the grandchildren of a titan and a being of Gia, the desire to control grew. Phenix’s could neither be controlled or tamed, they also couldn’t be recreated through interbreeding. Then the age of iron had come, and with-it man’s weapons grew stronger. Unbeknownst to her flock or her father, to prevent them from growing too strong, Zeus had cursed his cousin’s children to be burned by the touch of iron. As such they could only be killed by iron through the heart or brain.
While man had destroyed her culture 1200 years ago, her god father had spirited her away from the blood bath and placed her with cousin Hephaestus in the volcanic chasms underground until she’d reached maturity of six hundred years old. Carolina as she’d been known then had trained as a jewel smith under her god cousin, who was amazed at her ability to focus and her attention to details.
The old gods slumbered now though, their worshipers far and in-between, not enough to keep them awake. Caroline drifted through the world of man taking time to help innocents here and there. Caroline missed her flock often especially after a traumatic rebirth, but life moved on and with time so did she. Man was impressionable though and with a few well-placed whispers and alters popping up on every continent she thrived.
She pulled a replacement phone from the chest and plugged in the password to unlock it. Walking around the ruins of her old life, she ran a security check on her various properties across the globe. Everything was fine except her store front in New Orleans. Rolling her eyes, she zoomed in on who was sitting on her counter. Niklaus Mikaelson. He had been sniffing after her tail feathers for six centuries. Still her deal with Kol Mikaelson not to engage with his older brother was the reason; why his overzealous murder happy brother wasn’t a crispy critter her to consume.
Growling low in her throat, she felt the fire rise within her. Taking multiple deep breaths didn’t keep her phantom flame wings from unfurling behind her, scorching the points of her shirt where her real wings would have come out of her back. Spinning on her heel she walked back to the chest and grabbed her favorite leather jacket. If Klaus Mikaelson wanted to fuck with her, he was about to find out that getting too close to an open flame got you eaten by the last daughter of the sun.
Klaus was hoping that his minion wasn’t wrong otherwise he was sitting in gorgeous jewelry store that had been closed for five years. In fact, the store according to his minion had closed the day after he and his siblings had returned home. Klaus looked around the store from his spot on the counter impressed with the amount of gold and gems left just sitting on display. Was this woman really so powerful that she felt comfortable leaving such expensive things behind in her absence.
“You know getting ass sweat off of glass is a lot harder than people assume,” a crystal voice startled him out of his thoughts, “get off the furniture hybrid.”
Spinning he looked for the source of the voice, standing behind him was the slight blonde beauty who’d burned and the reformed in the rubble of a small-town jewelry store four nights previous. “So, you aren’t a myth?”
“No very much real now if you want to continue to terrorize your section of the supernatural realm, I suggest you leave now,” the blonde replied, barely looking at him. In fact, it looked almost like she was bored. Snarling he flashed forward only to meet heat and smoke. Turning on his heel he froze as he felt a burning pain on his back. “I told you to leave Mikaelson.”
“I’ve been looking for you,” he breathed through the pain trying to ignore the searing pain that burst forth from her hand on his back.
“You have hmmm, I don’t remember you calling me up or sending me a message on twitter,” she pushed more heat through her hand feeling the flesh start to burn under her hand, the shirt long gone.
“I didn’t think you’d take me call.” he wheezed flashing away finally giving up all pretense that it didn’t hurt to feel her touch.
“Oh, but breaking into one of my stores seemed much smarter,” Caroline was growing impatient. The predator in her wanted to eat him in one gulp, people forgot that some birds weren’t herbivores. She felt the fire from her hand itch to come out and play.
“I wanted to know if the stories were true, if you were the Auroral Phenix incarnate,” he said, shifting his shirt off to look at the scorch marks her hand had left. Only the marking looked more claw than fingered.
“So why not just ask, one apex predator to another?” she asked, looking around her store, and Klaus paused.
Up close he was amazed there weren’t more stories of how beautiful this blonde woman was. Eyes that made him feel he was staring into the deepest pools of water, and hair that could only be described as spun gold. “I never heard tale of a Phenix’s kill, or destruction until you started burning whole villages down as you pleased.”
“It’s not my fault man built their homes out of such flammable material, if they couldn’t handle a little heat then they shouldn’t beat their wives or children,” Caroline stated, as though the thought of not burning down a tinder box of a wooden home hadn’t occurred to her. She was working ridiculously hard at focusing on his ches-no eyes. God why did immortality tend to happen to the only physically gifted individuals of the world.
“So you only ever burned down villages of people who deserved it?” Klaus asked, stepping closer.
“Sometimes a rebirth went wrong, or my heart too heavy to contain my flame,” Caroline sighed, she was growing bored.
“It’s true though, all the stories about your kind though?” he asked, pushing closer when she made no move to stop him.
“Depends on what you’ve heard, though I doubt any of it was actually correct.”
“You don’t cry healing tears, nor journey to the ends of the world to die and be reborn?”
“Maybe yes, but maybe no,” Caroline answered, moving around her store looking to check if he’d stolen anything, always keeping one eye on the man in her store.
“Don’t play games girl,” he growled.
“Girl, that’s rich, I was in my first thousand years when your people hadn’t yet learned how to make swords.” Caroline spun on him so quick he felt off kilter. In a thousand years he’d never met anything or one who made him feel weak. Her hair glowing an almost auburn kind of gold, the color of molten metal. “Either tell me what the great Hybrid wants with me or be gone!”
“Madam,” he cleared his throat. “I merely thought that us powerful creatures should get to know one another better.”
“Bullshit, those words might work with the witches, and fae queens you’re used to dealing with, but my magic is older than the magic of man and far less forgiving Niklaus Mikaelson,” Caroline felt her body aching to change and devour the abomination before her. Stealing the monster inside herself she remembered the teachings of her mother and her people.
“It’s actually my sister Rebekah, she’s been poisoned by something and withers away day by day, I was looking for you because Kol told us that only you could save her,” he relented, stepping back.
“You came to ask a favor, or did you think you could force my hand Niklaus Mikaelson?” she said, eyebrow arched as flame wings glinted behind her reflecting off the gold and silver pieces hanging around the store.
Klaus was at a loss for words, if this was her half transformed, with wings of flame, it belied a beautiful creature in her natural form. He could see shades of reds, blues, and yellows, rippling over her hair and through the flames behind her. “I wasn’t going to take no for an answer.”
“Bring me the thing you value most and I’ll give you the gift to save your sister,” she said, stalking forward and holding her hand out to him. Taking it, he hissed as the heat seared his palm. Pulling away he saw a scar on his palm in the shape of swirling smoke.
When he looked up, he was alone on the roof top of One Shell Square, alone. Spinning around he saw a faint sparkle of something flying off into the night sky a thousand yards away from him. Growling he flashed home to see how Rebekah was faring in his absence.
Two days passed and Klaus had not come back to her shop. She was calmer now, the heat of the rebirth finally worn off. Sighing she turned back to her styling and sculpting of the vial that she would use to hold her tears. A phenix’s tears gained their healing ability from the lost souls that they cried for. Crying allowed them to protect and preserve themselves and their flock outside of rebirth. Even if Klaus didn’t come back, she would leave the vial on Rebekah’s bedside. She need only drink the tears and all curses, maladies, and pain would leave her body.
Standing she walked to the garden outside her workroom, she knelt down and placed the vial at the center of the sundial design in the tile. Finally, she allowed herself to shift into her natural form. Deep red and yellow plumage spilled out as her bones thinned and shifted to become her real self. Shaking out her tail feathers, she let out a low mournful call, which startled every bird within a half mile out of their nests and into the sky.
Crying drops the color of molten gold, she angled her head so as the tears dripped down her face, they rolled off her beak and filled the vial below. She cried for all the women lost to anger, the children dead in the name of greed, and the loss of her family a millennium twice past. When the vial was full, and her heart felt as light as her bones she shook out her plumage and looked up into the sun which was highest in the sky.
“Thank you, father,” she silently prayed.
“Caroline?” he was here, curious she turned her head 180 degrees to look at him. Standing in the doorway of her work room was the hybrid empty handed. Cooing she looked at him eyes wide. Shifting back into her sun-dressed human form she shook off the few feathers that clung through the transformation. “Has anyone ever told you that you look like a fairy princess transforming in a gust of wind and flame?”
“I tend to eat most beings who see me transform, so no,” Caroline said softly, looking up at him as she knelt to stopper the vial. “I believe the deal was what you value most, in exchange for your sisters cure.”
“I thought about this for two whole days Nix, and I couldn’t come up with anything,” he said slowly, “my sister actually figured it out first, you want me to give myself to you in exchange for her.”
“I wanted the offer, but I’ve never left a woman to suffer,” Caroline laughed, and tossed the vial to him.
“Dinner on the gulf?” he offered, snatching it deftly out of the air.
“Our pact is fulfilled,” she answered, walking over and leaning up to kiss his cheek lightly. “Don’t be late.”

Về âm nhạc, ngoài "You're all I need to get by", thì tôi thích bản cover “Both sides, Now” của Emilia Jones: "Rows and flows of angel hair And ice cream castles in the air And feather canyons everywhere Looked at clouds that way..."
