Increase Your Energy Savings With Garage Door Repairs And Insulation
Insulated garage doors with weather stripping can make your entire house more energy efficient. This post will help you discover how your garage door can affect your utility bill.
The problem
In general, homeowners work hard to reduce their energy costs. Even with insulated windows and home cooling and heating system upgrades, utility bills will still reflect one of the largest areas of your home: the garage. This space has a very high impact on the thermal comfort of your home and the garage itself.
Materials and insulation value
Garage doors are made from various materials such as wood, steel, fiberglass, vinyl, and aluminum. If you do not know it already, you should find out the insulation value of your garage door. A higher R-value means better thermal efficiency. Insulated doors have a metal skin over a rigid core, which is made from either polystyrene or polyurethane. It is important to note that the latter, polyurethane, provides twice the R-value of polystyrene. In addition to a better insulation core, higher-quality doors may have a textured, colored, or contoured surface.
Prices vary, so carefully compare both performance and style. If purchasing a new door is not within your current budget, consider buying a foam installation kit, or calling a garage door repair service for advice on outfitting your current door.
Benefits
Energy savings are the most obvious benefit. As utility bills continue to rise, a new door will begin to pay for itself in savings soon after installation. There are, however, many other benefits to installing an insulated door.
With increased temperature control, the garage area as well as adjacent rooms in your house will be kept cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. This also makes the garage more conducive for use as a workshop or recreational area. In addition, insulation will help soundproof your garage doors.
A more thermal efficient garage also means a reduction in temperature extremes inside your car. This will reduce the amount of time needed to cool down or warm up the air inside your car before you get in, while decreasing your level of personal discomfort due to temperature changes as you exit your car.
Adding a weather seal or perimeter weather seal system around the door is incredibly important for temperature control, as well as to prevent rain and snow from seeping into the garage. Along with actual garage door repairs, the other entrances, such as a back door or side windows, should be considered. If your house has an attached garage with a door leading to the interior, this door should also have insulation and weather stripping.
Call a garage door repair specialist for proper installation
When it comes to reducing energy expenditures, the installation of your new garage door or weather seal system makes all the difference. The door must be properly sealed on all four sides to avoid a leak which would let in inclement weather in addition to unwanted temperatures.

The Biggest 'Grey's Anatomy' Cast Exits
Grey's Anatomy has had its fair share of goodbyes.
As the 14th season winds down, ABC's long-running medical drama has gone through significant cast changes in front of the camera and its fair share of on-set drama and scandals. While Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. are the only remaining members of the original ensemble who have been with the show since its March 2005 debut, many of their colleagues have come and gone -- some in tragic fashion and others with hopeful beginnings.
With Sarah Drew and Jessica Capshaw's exits looming ahead of the 15th season, there promises to be even more transitions for the veteran series. From T.R. Knight and Katherine Heigl to Sara Ramirez and Patrick Dempsey, ET chronicles the history of Grey's' biggest and most dramatic cast exits over the past 14 seasons.
Dr. Preston Burke (Isaiah Washington)
Tumblr media
ABC
Washington was one of the original doctors on Grey's when it debuted in 2005. He was fired in 2007 after the third season, following an incident where Washington allegedly used a gay slur in reference to T.R. Knight during an on-set argument and clashed with other co-stars. The actor eventually returned to Grey's for a 2014 episode to help kick off Sandra Oh's exit.
Dr. George O'Malley (T.R. Knight)
Tumblr media
ABC
Knight was the first major cast departure for Grey's, leaving in tragic yet heroic fashion at the end of season five. In his final episodes, his beloved character, George, ran in front of a bus in an effort to save a woman but was hit himself -- still one of TV's most shocking moments -- resulting in being completely unrecognizable to the doctors when he was rushed in. He would later die from his injuries, which became the topic of early season six, as his former colleagues mourned his death and attended his funeral. One of the original interns on Grey's, George was a puppy-eyed doctor whose close friendship with Meredith, fumbling romances with Izzie and Callie and adversarial dynamic with Alex made him even more relatable to viewers.
Denny Duquette (Jeffrey Dean Morgan)
Tumblr media
ABC
While Morgan only appeared in about two dozen episodes, he remains one of Grey's most memorable characters, playing Denny, a patient-turned-love interest for Izzie in the second and third seasons. Though the heart transplant Denny came in for was successful, he died suddenly after a stroke -- but not until after he'd proposed to Izzie and she'd accepted. Later, Izzie used the money he left her to open up the Denny Duquette Memorial Clinic. In season five, Morgan returned for a new arc when Izzie began hallucinating Denny around the time she discovered she was diagnosed with cancer.
Dr. Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl)
Tumblr media
ABC
One of the original Grey's stars, Heigl left midway through season six after playing the bubbly, upbeat intern-turned-surgical resident Izzie for over 100 episodes. In her final episode, Heigl's character discovered she was cancer-free, attempted to reconcile with her ex, Alex, and turned down an offer to get her job back after getting fired, opting to move on for a fresh start. Heigl, who won the Emmy for her Grey's role in 2007, memorably took her name out of consideration in 2008 because she didn't feel she "was given the material this season to warrant an Emmy nomination," a reference to her reduced workload that year.
Dr. Addison Montgomery (Kate Walsh)
Tumblr media
ABC
Addison's introduction on Grey's at the end of the first season is still one of the most memorable moments of the series. Still, she left after season three after deciding to have a baby and visiting her friend Naomi, a fertility specialist in California at Oceanside Wellness Group, making the move to the Golden State permanent. Walsh's spinoff, Private Practice, debuted in the fall of 2007 and ran for six seasons, but she would pop back in and out on Grey's through its eighth season.
Dr. Lexie Grey (Chyler Leigh)
Tumblr media
ABC
Meredith's half-sister Lexie entered the picture in season three as part of that year's new class of interns, but became an integral part of the fabric of the series when she was upped to series regular at the start of season four. She became romantically involved with Mark in an on-again/off-again romance, and the two eventually reunited not long before they were both victims of a horrific plane crash at the end of season eight, during which she was the first to die. "My experience on Grey’s Anatomy is something that I will treasure for the rest of my life. I want to take this time to say thank you to the fans," Leigh told TVLine. "Your unconditional love and support have made these last five years very special for me. I look forward to my next chapter and I hope you will continue to follow me on my journey.
Dr. Mark Sloan (Eric Dane)
Tumblr media
ABC
The "McSteamy" to Patrick Dempsey's "McDreamy," Dane joined the ABC drama as a recurring guest star in the sophomore season before being promoted to series regular in season three, and his character, Mark, was immediately dubbed the ladies' man of the hospital. His presence at the hospital caused more wrinkles than it stabilized the staff, with spicy affairs with Derek's estranged wife Addison, Callie and Lexie -- the latter a relationship he grew to embrace. Dane was written off in dramatic fashion; after Lexie's death following the eighth season finale plane crash, Mark succumbed to his injuries.
Dr. Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh)
Tumblr media
ABC
Oh was one of the original cast members on Grey's when it debuted in 2005 and was on the show for 10 seasons until she left in 2014, when Cristina made the leap to relocate and start anew in Zurich. As Meredith's "person," Owen's on-again/off-again love and a star surgeon, Oh's character was one of the most beloved of the series and speculation of a potential return has permeated ever since her departure. "I've gotta tell you, those rumors, I don't know who starts them but it really is tough," Oh admitted to ET Canada in 2016. "No, I have no plans to return to Grey's any time soon." But Oh did say in a 2014 interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she'd be game to return for the series finale.
Dr. Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey)
Tumblr media
ABC
Dempsey's exit in season 11 was one of the most shocking moments in the history of Grey's, as his character, also known as "McDreamy," was one-half of the main couple on the series alongside Ellen Pompeo's Meredith Grey. In his final episode, Derek was rushed to the ER after a large semi truck struck his car and the team of under-trained doctors were unable to save him in time, forcing Meredith to pull the plug. “Derek Shepherd is and will always be an incredibly important character -- for Meredith, for me and for the fans. I absolutely never imagined saying goodbye to our 'McDreamy.' Patrick Dempsey’s performance shaped Derek in a way that I know we both hope became a meaningful example -- happy, sad, romantic, painful and always true -- of what young women should demand from modern love,” creator Shonda Rhimes said in April 2015. “His loss will be felt by all.”
Dr. Callie Torres (Sara Ramirez)
Tumblr media
ABC
Ramirez announced her decision to leave the show after 10 seasons of playing one of TV's groundbreaking bisexual characters following the season 12 finale. In Ramirez's final episode, she and her ex, Arizona, agreed that they would co-parent their daughter together. “I’m deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey’s Anatomy & ABC but for now, I’m taking some welcome time off,” Ramirez wrote in her note in 2016. “Shonda been so incredible to work for, & we will definitely continue our conversations!”
Dr. Stephanie Edwards (Jerrika Hinton)
Tumblr media
ABC
Hinton joined the medical drama in its ninth season, staying on for five seasons as Stephanie, one of Grey Sloan's surgical residents, and leaving at the end of the season 13 finale after suffering devastating burns following a fiery explosion in one of the hospital wings. Her near-death experience was enough for Stephanie to change course, and she made a declaration that she wanted to live her own life now. Hinton revealed to ET in February that she pitched a version of Stephanie's final episode where she died. "My heart grows to think that I did get a hero's end -- that I got to go out in a way that was not just incredibly human and honest, but also inspirational."
Dr. Nathan Riggs (Martin Henderson)
Tumblr media
ABC
Though Henderson's time as Riggs on Grey's was relatively brief -- he joined midway through the 12th season and left early on in season 14 -- he made his time on the series count. An Army doctor who had a friendship and deep history with fellow Grey Sloan doc Owen, he grew to become Meredith's main love interest following Patrick Dempsey's departure, but Riggs and Meredith's romance was cut short when he was reunited with his former love, Owen's previously presumed dead sister, Megan. In the end, the pair decided to move to Los Angeles together.
Dr. April Kepner (Sarah Drew)
Tumblr media
ABC
Drew, who has played April since season six, was written out of the show at the end of season 14 and she got her happy ending, walking down the aisle in a surprise wedding with an old flame, Matthew, with her ex-husband Jackson witness to the happy day. She also decided to leave Grey Sloan to do God's work, helping homeless communities in Seattle. But there was some worry that she wouldn't survive the season. Things weren't looking good for the devout Christian doctor in the penultimate episode as she was seen unconscious and barely clinging to life after being in a car accident. Thankfully, she made it out with barely a scratch. Whew. Ellen Pompeo hinted to ET in May that Drew's character would not meet a horrific end -- and thankfully, she was right. "You only get killed off when your behavior is bad. If you're a nice actor, you die nice. ... But, yeah, these endings aren't tragic."
Dr. Arizona Robbins (Jessica Capshaw)
Tumblr media
ABC
In the penultimate season 14 episode, details of Capshaw's departure from Grey's were revealed: She was moving to New York City to be closer to the daughter she shares with her ex, Callie, and helping Nicole Herman open up a new clinic. In the finale, it was hinted that she and Callie may also be rekindling their romance. The announcement in March that she would be leaving after playing one of TV's few LGBTQ characters for 10 seasons was a shock to the system for fans. "I am sad to see her go, but I am consoled by the idea that she will continue to live on and on in all of our consciences and our imaginations," Capshaw wrote at the time.
Grey's Anatomy airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.

Two For The Road: Chapter 18
Chapter 18
Hanzo had been expecting Vanessa to be violent when she saw Jack. Her own first reaction had been violence and, from what Jesse had told her about his sister, Vanessa was a horrible person to see riled up. It was like she had two modes; calm and collected or murderous. She hadn’t expected Vanessa to be so calm when she walked into the room and saw Jack leaning on the table.
“Is it really you?” she had asked, gripping her rifle tightly in her left hand.
“I’m sorry, Vanessa,” Jack had said. “There’s been a lot of time between us.”
“At least you’re alive, you bastard,” Vanessa had said as she holstered her rifle and rushed forward.
She had thrown herself into Jack’s arms, pressing her forehead against his as she let out a sob. Tom had smiled as the two of them embraced tightly, fingers digging into each other’s jackets. Gabriel had been smiling the whole time, sharing an amused look with Jesse. Hanzo had felt a temporary pang of jealousy before she remembered that Jack and Vanessa had known each other a long time and that this was a very typical response between the McCrees and the people they loved.
Vanessa had then gently removed Jack’s facemask and ran her fingers over his scars. Hanzo tensed at the sight of his milky eyes, but that seemed to be the last thing that Vanessa noticed about him. Her fingers moved slowly over his jaw, then his nose, up into his receding hair, and then gently over his eyes.
“You got old,” she’d said.
“Stress will do that to you,” he replied. “Feels like I haven’t slept a day since Zurich, even with Gabriel at my side again.”
“You still don’t know how to fuckin’ relax,” she teased before hugging him again. “Don’t you ever fuckin’ do that to me again, Jack. I’ve lost enough in my life without addin’ you to the list.”
Jack had chuckled as he led her over to the couch where Hanzo, Jesse, and Tom were waiting. Vanessa sat down beside Tom and leaned back on the couch, waiting for Jack and Gabriel to explain themselves. Hanzo was not expecting the answer.
“Wait, Angela experimented on you?” Jesse demanded. “Angie?”
“She’s always been tampering with ways to bring people back from death regardless of how long they’ve been gone,” Gabriel said. “Her research…I think her heart was in the right place. It’s been four years; I try not to hate the girl, but some days are better than others.”
She lifted her mottled hand and watched chunks of blackened flesh flake off. Jack took her hand and squeezed it, perhaps a little tighter than what was needed, but it seemed to help with the dissolving.
“Still, you were decapitated,” Hanzo said. “I was the one that found your body. I saw what happened to you.”
“Would you believe me if I said I know because I was there?” Gabriel asked and shook her head, reaching up to run her talons through her hair. “It’s hard for me to explain sometimes; my soul didn’t move on. It hovered, like it knew I wasn’t supposed to be dead or something. Or maybe it was scared to leave Jack. Either way, I think that’s the only reason that Angela was able to bring me back to life in spite of what had happened to me. My soul was stuffed back into a partially cremated body and I wound up like this; caught somewhere between decaying and regenerating.”
“Partially cremated?” Jesse frowned. “Wait, they were already in the process of getting you ready for burial when they let Angela experiment on you? That means….”
“Angela knew you weren’t dead when we buried you,” Hanzo straightened in horror. “She knew we were burying the wrong people!”
Gabriel nodded her head. “Yes, I believe that is true. We won’t know until we track her down. She’s been quite elusive for someone that is a high-profile doctor.”
“That bitch,” Hanzo growled. “When I get my hands on her…!”
“Get in line,” Gabriel chuckled. “I get first dips on bouncing her head off a table.”
“What about Jack?” Tom asked. “He wasn’t dead when they pulled him out of the wreckage. Why pronounce you dead to the entire world?”
“No idea,” Jack shook his head. “I can tell you that they didn’t heal me for weeks. I was hopped up on a shitton of painkillers to keep me unconscious throughout it all and when I was allowed to move around, it was to get brought before the generals of the UN and told that I was to conform to their ideals.”
“And we all know how much Jack loves taking orders,” Vanessa laughed. “Especially from incompetent jackasses.”
Gabriel chuckled her amusement as she reached out to cup a hand under Jack’s jaw. “My argumentative darling needs some gentle reinforcement,” she teased.
“Yes. Gentle,” Vanessa narrowed her eyes. “Like the three hotel beds you broke on a ‘vacation’?”
Jack’s face turned a lovely shade of red as he looked away. “I forgot about that,” he grumbled.
“I had to hear it from Ana for about a week,” Vanessa growled. “Like I was supposed to control two grown-ass people or somethin’.”
Hanzo chuckled as Gabriel slumped on Jack’s shoulders and nibbled playfully on his ear. Jack huffed and grumbled, but he made no effort to chase Gabriel off. They all chuckled before Jesse leaned forward.
“So, why’re you a decent height all of a sudden, Gabe?” he asked.
“It takes a lot of energy to keep this decomposing body at seven feet,” Gabriel sighed as she put more of her weight on Jack’s shoulders. “Six-one is much more reasonable. And I adopted it for a while because I was mourning and honouring Jack.”
“Wait…you didn’t know the other was alive?” Hanzo stared at them in disbelief.
“Not a clue,” Gabriel shook her head. “It was a terrifying realization when I found out. I almost lost him again.”
“I seem to have this bad habit of getting shot in the head,” Jack sighed and rubbed the side of his head. “I’m lucky Gabriel has my back. I’d be dead by now otherwise.”
Gabriel nuzzled him gently and ran her fingers through his hair. “You are my darling, Jack; I would do anything for you,” she whispered.
Hanzo smiled at the gentle sight. It was comforting to see that they still loved each other so deeply. There was still some hope in the world for romance, it would seem.
“So, what’s the plan?” Vanessa asked.
“Plan?” Jack turned his head towards her.
“You can’t tell me that you came to L.A without a plan,” Vanessa arched an eyebrow. “You always have a plan.”
Jack tilted his head towards Gabriel and she nuzzled his cheek. “We did have a plan,” she said slowly. “We just didn’t expect you all to show up.”
“You’re kidding?” Tom snorted. “You show up in one of the safehouses and don’t expect me to come investigate?”
“True,” Gabriel chuckled before she settled against Jack’s shoulders. “We’re bringing Blackwatch back.”
“Yer kidding?” Jesse stared. “What about the Petras Act? Those damn enforcin’ units’ll kill us!”
“Overwatch has been forbidden,” Jack said. “It doesn’t say anything about Blackwatch.”
Jesse and Hanzo shared a look. Jack was not the kind of person that they thought would handle Blackwatch life very well. He had never been good with secrets and working in the shadows had never been his strong suit. He was better pushing papers or fighting a fair fight.
“Are you sure about this, Jack?” Hanzo asked. “You never took an interest in Blackwatch’s machinations before.”
“Times change,” Jack said with a heavy sigh. “People don’t want Overwatch. Fine. They never had a say in Blackwatch and the world needs an organization working from the shadows to keep the rest of the darkness at bay.”
“Poetic,” Vanessa commented. “And more than a little suicidal. I’m in.”
“Agreed,” Tom nodded his head.
“Hanzo?” Jesse glanced at her.
“I will do what I must for this world, whether it wants my protection or not,” Hanzo said with a firm nod of her head.
“Then it’s settled,” Gabriel chuckled. “We’re bringing Blackwatch back to life. Tom, think you have a list of trustworthy agents to bring back into the fold?”
“I’ll need to run it through you and your favourite specialist first,” Tom nodded. “But I think I know a few that would just at the chance to return to active duty.”
Jack nodded his head as he stared at some point above their heads. “I hope those bastards pray to whatever god they believe in to spare them; I have no mercy left,” he said.
Hanzo’s eyebrows rose, but she stayed silent as Tom and Gabriel started discussing recruitment and data collection. They had to set up a new base of operations, establish a roster, and figure out some way to tempt backers into helping get Blackwatch back on its feet.
“There’s the plane,” Jesse smiled as he watched the landing lights flare to life overhead. “You eager to see yer brother?”
“Yes,” Hanzo sighed as she sat beside him in the rental Tom had secured for them. “It’s been too long.”
Jesse grinned and flicked his cigarillo to the other side of his mouth. He knew that Genji would wait until the last possible second to get across the tarmac to where they were waiting, but he wasn’t sure how good at stealth Pet and Zenyatta were. It was bad enough Gabriel was trying to figure out how to get Reinhardt across the Atlantic without arousing suspicion; he didn’t need to think of two bumbling omnics accidentally setting off the National Guard.
“Bingo,” Jesse said as he pointed through the windshield.
He spotted the flash of Genji’s biolights as he slipped free of the cargobay. Genji ran as fast as ever, easily darting between cover to remain out of sight. He couldn’t see a Petras Unit following him or Zenyatta and hoped they hadn’t been found.
He jumped out of his skin as something thumped on top of the Jeep and rolled down to sit on the hood. A very dazed mechanical bat the size of a Great Dane waved at them before the omnic unfolded from its form. It flopped off of the Jeep’s hood and wiggled into the backseat, hugging Hanzo from behind.
“You can go into recon mode,” Hanzo said as she hugged the omnic in return. “I’m so proud of you, Pet.”
“It took a while and I can’t really fly, but I can glide,” the omnic’s ears flicked happily upwards. “Hello, Jesse McCree; it’s nice to finally meet you.”
“You must be Pet,” Jesse smiled and reached out to ruffle the “fur” on top of her head. “Yer a right cutie.”
“Thanks,” Pet wagged her tail. “We worked really hard to make my faceplates unique so I didn’t look like every other Unit out there.”
“I think we did a great job,” Genji said as he flipped up into the Jeep. “It took a lot of remodelling, but we finally got her a look she likes.”
Hanzo twisted around to hug her brother close, kissing over his cheeks as he chuckled that he was fine. Zenyatta floated into place on Pet’s other side and waved in greeting. He seemed exhausted and sagged against the seat, snoring softly before Jesse had even pulled out onto the freeway. No one talked the whole trip; Genji was clearly suffering from jetlag and Pet was barely staying awake.
Jesse pulled into the parking space set aside for them at the new underground headquarters and turned the car off. Hanzo carried Pet in on her back, chuckling as the young omnic protested being moved. Zenyatta floated tiredly after them, mumbling softly as he held Genji’s hand to keep from getting lost. Jesse led the way down into the bowels of the decommissioned production plant and smirked.
“Everyone, welcome to Watchpoint: L.A,” he said as he pushed the doors to the control room open. “Try not to smudge the paint.”
“Jack!” Genji shouted before he bolted forward and threw himself into Jack’s arms. “I missed you. I hate you. I missed you.”
“Missed you too, otouto,” Jack murmured as he hugged Genji tightly. “Good to see you. How was the trip?”
“Long,” Genji said. “But we can talk more in the morning. I need sleep.”
“Quarters are through the doors there,” Jack gestured to the doors at the back of the room. “Plonk yourself down on whatever bed you find.”
Genji flashed thumbs up before he trotted back to Hanzo and picked Pet up. She grumbled a meek protest, claiming that she could walk on her own, but she was out cold again before Genji had even started walking. Jack’s blind eyes followed them as they walked past, somehow still as analytical as ever even without his visor on. Jesse knew there was a story behind that, but his bosses hadn’t felt inclined to tell him anything.
Right now, they were all focused on getting Blackwatch operational again. It was almost like old times, but there was the nagging suspicion hanging in the air that if they expanded too fast that they were going to fall under the same troubles as before. No one talked about it, but they all wondered the same thing. Were they going to be betrayed by their own again? Could Gabriel keep Blackwatch from falling apart from the inside because of greedy, self-centered bastards?
He hoped so. He wanted this to work. He was so sick of running and hiding. He wanted to save people again and have a strong network watching his back to bail him out of trouble when he inevitably ran into it. He wanted Blackwatch back and he was eager to get back in the saddle. It was time for them to move through the shadows and put the fear of retribution back into the hearts of the criminal underbelly.

Insurance Companies Blame Bitcoin for Ransomware Increase
Insurance companies, such as Chubb, are making a ransomware Bitcoin correlation, saying that the cryptocurrency’s rising price is leading to more ransomware attacks.
Few things are as aggravating as having to pay a criminal ransom in order to gain access to your own files. Ransomware attacks have targeted everything from major corporations down to a local transit authority, and they’re increasing in frequency. Some of the insurance companies who have to deal with the fallout of such attacks are making a ransomware Bitcoin connection, saying that the rising number of such attacks is the cryptocurrency’s fault.
Blaming Bitcoin
In an interview with Bloomberg, three insurance companies laid the blame for an increase in ransomware claims upon Bitcoin’s shoulders. One such company is Zurich-based Chubb, and one of their executive vice presidents, Michael Tanenbaum, said that it’s the increased value of the cryptocurrency that is driving hackers to strike more often.
Tanenbaum says 2017 has seen a “massive escalation” in both the number of ransomware attacks and the amount of payments made in bitcoins. As insurance companies are on the hook (as long as the company has such a policy), they keep a keen eye on how much such hacking costs them.
How big are the payouts becoming for insurance companies? The largest claim before 2017 was $17,000. That amount is pocket change as Tanenbaum says that, around midyear, the top payouts for ransomware attacks on corporations went over $1 million. That’s quite a jump.
Hackers Becoming More Emboldened
Two other ransomware specialists, Kivu Consulting and Navigant Consulting, agree with Chubb over Bitcoin and the increasing ransomware attacks. They note that the frenzy surrounding the increasing value of Bitcoin has emboldened hackers. Winston Krone of Kivu Consulting notes that ransom demands from $250,000 to $500,000 are now a weekly occurrence but were totally nonexistent six months ago.
An executive at Beazley Plc, Kimberly Horn, says that ransomware claims at the company are up a staggering 70% this year. She adds:
Because the price of bitcoin has seen a dramatic spike in the latter half of 2017, it has made the overall price of demands much larger.
It may be true that there is a ransomware Bitcoin correlation. Criminals love the anonymity of cryptocurrency, but just because bitcoins are worth more doesn’t necessarily mean that more attacks are going to be made. If a hacker wanted a higher payout for their crime, they could always ask for a higher ransom. However, the instantaneous and anonymous nature of using Bitcoin can be a component of the increased attacks. Having to deal with wire transfers and other means of ransom payments could get complicated. Having a sum of virtual currency sent to a wallet address is so much easier.
Then there’s the fact that success breeds imitation. Companies were quite willing to pay ransomware demands, especially if the demands were not too high, as it was cheaper than fighting back. Acquiescing to criminals always ensures that more criminals will line up to rob you.
Another factor in increased attacks and payment demands is ease. With just some malicious code and the click of a mouse button, an attack can be unleashed anywhere in the world, and the hackers can range from single individuals to rogue states, such as North Korea.
In the end, as long as there’s money to be made from a ransomware attack, they’re going to keep on happening.
Do you think that there’s a ransomware Bitcoin price correlation? Let us know in the comments below.

Garage Door Repair Realigning Sensors
Depending on your operating system, your garage door may feature infrared sensors as one of the main safety features. These sensors will stop and reverse the door if a child or animal runs unexpectedly in the path of the closing door. If there is nothing blocking the sensors but the door refuses to close, there may be a problem with the sensors. How it works Since 1993, garage door opener manufacturers have been required to include anti-entrapment safety devices, which typically come in the form of sensors. A beam of infrared light is transmitted and received from one sensor to the other, communicating with the opener that the path is clear and the door can be closed. Each sensor may have a small light so you can tell that it is on and working. Realigning sensors is a matter of getting both of the lights to illuminate simultaneously and continuously. What went wrong? Garage door sensors have nothing to do with the door going up, only down. If your door won't open, you may need to call a garage door repair specialist in order to diagnose the problem. Sensors can be bumped out of alignment or may lose their electrical connection, causing a variety of problems. If the beam of light is broken, the door will not close. If there is an electrical malfunction of some kind, however, the door may behave sporadically and close inadvertently, even if there is something in the way. Do-it-yourself garage door repair: how to reset your sensors If you have tried but failed to realign your sensors simply by eyeballing them, you may need to follow a few more steps. To realign your sensors, first turn off their power source, whether via the opener system itself or your fuse box. On either side of the door, loosen the screws that hold the sensors in place, and slide the mounting bracket and sensor down as far as possible. Using a tape measure, slide each sensor back up to exactly six inches above ground level and retighten the screws enough so that the brackets will not slide out of place on their own. To ensure the sensors are pointed directly at one another, you may need to use string to simulate the infrared beam. Attach a piece of string from one sensor to the other, tied at the same point on each (such as the bottom of the sensor). Using a level, keep making slight adjustments until the string is level with the ground. Once done, firmly tighten the screws back into place, check the string's alignment once more, and turn on the power source. As mentioned previously, your sensors may each have a small light, which should now both be on. You can test the sensors by rolling a ball between them. If the inner LED lights do not shine, the sensors themselves may need to be replaced. Overview Clean each sensor periodically to rid the lens of dust, dirt, and moisture, which could cause a weak signal. If your garage door is still acting up, there may be an electrical problem. If you have any problems or questions, do not hesitate to contact a garage door repair specialist.

Sprinter Lyles moves fast to a different beat
(Reuters) – Noah Lyles has a little project in mind once his athletics season ends this weekend and while sprinting may have a part to play, this one moves to a very different beat.
FILE PHOTO: Athletics – Diamond League – Letzigrund Stadium, Zurich, Switzerland – August 30, 2018 Noah Lyles of the U.S. celebrates winning the Men’s 200m REUTERS/Moritz Hager/File Photo
The specialist 200 meters runner wants to offer his fans a taste of another of his favorite pursuits – rapping.
“I’m working on a few songs,” the multi-talented American told Reuters. “I’m trying to put together an EP (extended play) which is four to five songs. Not big enough to be an album yet but big enough to be more than a single.”
But don’t look for the finished product just yet.
“I just started messing with it probably about six months ago,” Lyles said. “It may take some time, but you never know.
“I’ve been approached by a few people who are engineers in the music business wanting to work with me to see if I have any talent.
“But I tell them all the same thing. I hope to do this for fun. I’m not in it for the money.”
The recently turned 21-year-old Lyles sees his prolific social media, the rapping and showmanship as a way for fans to get to know him.
“As an athlete, it is building my brand,” said the outgoing Lyles, who might turn a back flip or show off a new dance move after a successful race. “People learn a little about me moment by moment and I hope that they like me.”
Diamond League 200m champion for two consecutive years and also an outstanding 100m runner, Lyles thinks the exposure is good for his image.
“You are putting yourself out there and you have to be able to handle the good and the bad,” he said. “Some people are going to like what you say. Some people are not. So it is really a maturing moment.”
His athletic credentials are eye-catching.
The world indoor 300m record holder, he recovered from a hamstring injury last year to become the third fastest 100m runner of the season behind compatriots Christian Coleman and Ronnie Baker and has also run 2018’s two fastest 200m times.
Yet, in a sport struggling to attract new fans, he knows fast times alone are not enough.
“Track and field isn’t just racing, it’s putting on a show,” he said.
RACE MOVES
So he pops up on Twitter, often with video, plans post-race moves and encourages meeting organizers and media to move with the times.
“More energetic intros. Having intro music,” he offered for starters.
New approaches, he believes, are also needed at news conferences, where the same questions seem to follow athletes around the world.
“You have athletes with amazing talent,” Lyles said. “Yet for some reason we still get the ‘Now that (Usain) Bolt is gone, do you think you are going to be the next replacement?’ question.
“Come on, we can do better than that. We can show our audience we have runners out there who love to cook, love to create, love to go fishing.”
But speed remains a driving force with audiences and Lyles has big plans on the track.
“I had a dream where I ran 9.41,” the American said, a time that would obliterate Bolt’s 100m world record of 9.58 seconds.
For now Lyles is focused on closing out a successful season despite a disappointing third-place finish in the recent Birmingham Diamond League meet.
“I want to redeem myself,” he said before this weekend’s Continental Cup in Ostrava, Czech Republic. “I felt like it was not my best put-together race.”
Lyles will also run in the 4x100m relay, probably his last races for months.
“At the moment, indoors is not on the menu,” said Lyles, aware, like all athletes, that down time must be found before the long 2019 outdoor season which will not end until October.
So he will relax, enjoy his new home in Florida, watch his mother get married and work on his music as well as finding ways to improve his start.
“My mom says if you are having fun doing your job, you’ll never work a day in your life,” Lyles said.
“I’m out there being a kid, doing my thing. It’s a job but I have a different way of handling it.”

On The Hotlist: Top September Events, Dining, Style & Travel
Hands up whoever is hoping for an Indian Summer! I for one am not ready to let go of the warm weather just yet. This month is a great time to check out new places as the crowds thin out, so we’ve come up with our picks for the best September events, dining, style and travel.
September Events
Zurich will be hosting their 7th Street Food Festival from 7-17 September, and with over 150 food sellers ranging from chocolates to ceviche, dumplings and tacos, there’s something to suit everyone.
The Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA) is one of the most iconic international photography competitions. The winners have recently been chosen and members of the public will be able to view the works of the finalists and winners from 14 September to 15 October in Berlin at the Neue Schule für Fotografie.
London Fashion Week will be taking place from 15-19 September and as I’ll be at both the events above I’ll be missing most of the action including the Aspinal of London presentation which promises to be brilliant. Members of the public can buy tickets to London Fashion Week Festival which takes place from 21-24 September and is a lot of fun!
Style Picks
Continuing the fashion theme, I wanted to share a really great day out that I went on recently. The Landmark London is one of my favourite London hotels, with its stunning Winter Garden complete with palm trees. They’re capitalizing on their handy location near to Marylebone station to offer a Shop ‘Till You Drop Spa and Shopping package with Bicester Village. The designer outlet in Oxfordshire can be reached directly from Marylebone station in less than an hour. The package includes breakfast in the beautiful Winter Garden, direct return train tickets, a 10% discount VIP card for Bicester Village, exclusive complimentary hands-free shopping, access to the VIP lounge, and once back in London a cocktail, glass of champagne or soft drink at the Landmark followed by a candlelight massage and access to the spa and gym. It would make a great gift for a loved one at only £175 per person, though I wouldn’t blame you if you self-gift! Bicester Village is expanding to include even more luxury stores and has been beautifully decorated by acclaimed florist Nikki Tibbles. There are quotes by Shakespeare dotted around, as well as Liberty print phone boxes for that all important selfie and a very tasty lunch spot, Farmshop, which is part of the Soho House group.
In the hope of a never ending Summer, we created a late Summer beach trip packing list and gave our tips on how to beautify your home with tropical decor. However, if your skin is feeling the Summer heat, then we’ve got two suggestions for you. Firstly, Lumaesthetic is a London clinic specializing in the natural-looking enhancement of your features. They’re plastic surgery doctors who also work in the NHS and I recently tried their non-surgical facial with Dr Dominic Yue. I was very impressed by the results – my skin was smoother and more hydrated afterwards. I was able to forgo foundation for the photo below, taken the next day. The effects get better after a day or two when the skin has had a chance to settle down and it feels like your face is illuminated from within. Lumaesthetic can also prescribe you clinically proven skincare that’s really affordable, so I’m looking forward to seeing the long-term effects from that. As a treat for readers, if you mention “Luxury Columnist” when booking a treatment at Lumaesthetic, you’ll get 20% off for a limited time only!
I was recently sent a bottle of Institut Esthederm City Protect Spray to try and am loving the hydrating effect as well as the stylish gold packaging. It’s designed to combat pollution and photo-ageing, thanks to its Cellular Water Patent. Seeing as I live right in the City, it’s coming in very handy indeed.
If you’re a fan of designer handbags but not such a fan of the crazy price tags, then you’ll love Bagista. They’re specialists in pre-loved luxury handbags and accessories yet you’d never guess that the items weren’t brand new, they’re in such great condition. They’ve opened a pop-up store at 227 Kings Road, Chelsea, in collaboration with other luxury brands such as Sweetpea & Willow luxury furniture designers, Chelsea Prints, Astrid & Miyu unique jewellery and Maverick & Wolf designer eyewear. I popped along to the launch where I feasted on sweet treats made by the lovely Cupcake King but I’ll definitely be returning to browse their beautifully curated pieces.
This month I was fortunate to be a guest on She Builds Brands, the international radio show hosted every Saturday on Channel Radio by brand expert Kubi Springer. I’d definitely recommend a listen to her upcoming shows or New York City Business Weekender event in November if you’re interested in marketing.
Sometimes you come across an idea so clever that you wonder why no one thought of it before. The clever folks at MyHeritage have come up with a DNA Testing Kit that will reveal your ethnic origins. They’re a leading source of information on family history and their technology enables users to find matches with other users and to expand the details of their family tree. For the DNA kit, its simplicity itself – you order it online, then do a cheek swab which you place in the vial provided and send back for analysis. Now I just have to wait patiently for the results, can’t wait to share them with you!
Travel Tales
The Cotswolds is one of Britain’s most charming areas, with its golden coloured cottages and quaint village pubs. September is a lovely time to visit, when it’s normally gorgeous weather. We headed up there a few weeks ago to visit my sister and her family, including her triplets who have all just got into university – proud Auntie alert! While we weren’t so lucky with the weather, we hardly noticed the downpour thanks to our cosy home from home. Bruern Cottages are a collection of luxury cottages, nestled in the grounds of Bruern Abbey. Only an hour away from London, they’re also close to Daylesford Organic Farm and Bicester Village. We’ll be writing about our stay in detail but here’s a teaser, the beautiful bedroom in our cottage.
This is also a great season to visit Ibiza, as the majority of partygoers have left and you can explore the island’s hidden gems in peace.
For a UK vacation, Bournemouth has one of the most beautiful beaches as well as RockReef PierZip, the world’s only pier to shore zip wire. I tried it and loved it!

Wining and Dining
Wondering where to eat in September? We’ve got lots of suggestions on seasonal menus and the hottest new restaurants, starting with Mac and Wild. This Fitzrovia stalwart is famous for its Scottish cooking and has over 200 whiskies, craft beers, gins as well as their own range of Scottish cocktails. We recently tried the Summer Menu including a hearty roast with succulent beef and Yorkshire pudding, their award-winning Venimoo venison burger and moriesh Broke Millionaire’s Shortbread.
The Baglioni Hotel in Kensington is another London classic, and I’m a fan of their Italian afternoon tea. They have recently restyled their restaurant to give it a contemporary Italian feel. Brunello at The Baglioni has a new Italian executive chef, Alberto Rossetti. As you can see, the food is a delight, being light yet exceptionally tasty.
To dine in what is arguably the prettiest restaurant in London, head to Bronte. It has been designed by Tom Dixon and has cosy green leather booths, dusty pink chairs, and a pewter bar. There are great views of Trafalgar Square from the leafy terrace. Despite the stylish feel, it’s a very relaxed eatery that’s open all day, serving up modern British and Asian food. Chefs Andrew Lassetter and Guy Betteridge are highly skilled, with every dish being flawless. From the flavourful chilli salt squid to the accomplished lobster tempura and superb miso black cod, there is real passion here. Even the side dishes are interesting – a bowl of 7 types of heritage tomato and another of grilled green courgettes enlivened with black sesame tahini & truffle. You’ll want to save room for desserts like the chocolate bomb with cherry sorbet and hazlenut praline and the pineapple carpaccio with lime and coconut sorbet. There’s also a separate bar menu which sounds tempting, with breakfast dishes, bao buns and the Bronte burger…
For a relaxing meal in Marylebone, you can’t beat Bernardi’s. This neighbourhood Italian restaurant on Seymour Street is open all day for brunch, lunch or dinner and you don’t need to reserve in advance unless you’re a large group. Although the attention to detail is superb, the food isn’t at all fussy, just healthy and delicious. The newly opened basement cocktail bar, The Dog House looks like fun too! We recommend the heritage tomato salad, the rump of Spring lamb and their incredible desserts.
The capital has a stunning new hotel in the shape of  The LaLiT London, set in a former school. This atmospheric boutique hotel combines British charm with Indian culture to great effect and has retained many original features. I recently attended their Indian Independence Day dinner, with live music from famous sitar players. Baluchi restaurant is located in the Grade II listed former Assembly Hall and is without a doubt one of the best places in London to experience Indian cuisine. Admire the blue glass Indian chandeliers whilst you feast on organic dishes created by Executive Chef Arup Dasgupta. With delights such as rassam soup, tender monkfish tikka, butter chicken and a delicate Gulab Jamun cheesecake on the menu, you won’t be disappointed! The LaLiT also has a lovely outdoor shisha terrace for those Indian Summer evenings!
London certainly is a great place to savour all the cuisines of the world and the German picnic at the German Gymnasium is another culinary hotspot set in a historic building. This former gym is now a light and airy all-day café and bar with a charming outdoor terrace and spectacular interior. They’ve come up with a fun idea for Summer, a selection of picnic hampers designed in partnership with Wines of Germany. If the weather isn’t playing ball like on our visit, you can eat it inside the restaurant, but if it’s a sunny day then head to the canalside in King’s Cross. Either way, you’ll enjoy delicacies such as Bavarian Giga rolls filled with a variety of fillings including Black Forest ham and Obatzda cheese. The Nussecken shortbread topped with apricot jam and hazelnuts is a real winner, as are the Niederegger Luebecker Taler marzipan treats. We toasted our feast with sparkling Sekt wine, which is a bit like a German Prosecco, followed by an aromatic white Riesling. They’ve thought of everything, right down to the faux grass table cover and complimentary green sunglasses!
Another good place to soak up those last Summer rays is the new terrace at St Martins Lane in Covent Garden. We’d actually been invited to experience the innovative Speakeasy Cocktail Tea which is served in the hotel’s secret bar, Blind Spot. Guests give a secret password to gain access into this stylish space which hosts regular jazz and swing music sessions. However, with it being a gorgeous day we were tempted outdoors instead. The twist with this tea is that it’s served in the evening, on Sundays to Thursdays from 7 to 9 pm and likely to appeal to men and women alike. That’s thanks to the array of savoury treats such as mini quiche Lorraine, spinach and feta feuilleté and my personal favourite, the mini brioche buns filled with crayfish and mango. They’re served with three cocktails inspired by the British Empire’s tea trade including the Teetotaller with chamomile-infused Grey Goose vodka, the Giggle Water with Bombay Sapphire gin, and Have The Bee’s with Bacardi Carta D’oro rum. Sweet treats such as passion fruit macarons, dulce panna cotta and a chocolate Bailey’s cake are the perfect ending.
We hope you’ve enjoyed this round up of the best September events, style picks, restaurant and travel tips. What do you have planned for September?

8 Top Luxury Weekend Escapes as Picked by Travel Experts
Tourists on the streets of Montreal. The Canadian city is one of the hot places to go right now -- as Skift knows, from having had its all-team retreat there in June. Tourisme Montréal
Skift Take: Great suggestions, here. A case in point is Montreal, where Skift had its all-staff retreat this summer. We can vouch that this Canadian town has an outsize food scene that's perfect for a weekend escape.
— Sean O'Neill
Generally speaking, you need a minimum of three days when visiting a new city. It’s just enough time to scout out a favorite restaurant, find the best must-see attractions, pin down a couple of great boutiques, and check out a lesser-visited, local-feeling neighborhood. In my mind, it’s the only way to truly get a sense of the destination—to know a place rather than see it.
But there are exceptions. On a recent trip to Africa, I spent only one night in Zambia: I wanted to see Victoria Falls, and there’s little else to do in the vicinity if you’re not keen on bungee jumping at one of the world’s largest crevices.
Earlier this year, I had only two days to spend in Zurich before a ski trip, which proved to be plenty of time for this beautiful, immensely walkable, yet diminutive capital.
Within a few blocks of a new boutique hotel in the center of town called the Marktgasse is an incredible bakery with a local crowd, a stunningly arranged shop filled with gourmet gift-ables, and a stuck-in-time tavern for traditional fondue.
It didn’t take much longer to see the clock tower of St. Peter’s, wander down the sweetly cobbled Augustinergasse, and window shop along the watch-lover’s Mecca of Bahnhofstrasse, which leads to the city’s most famous chocolatier. By the third morning, hopping the train to St. Moritz signaled no lost opportunity.
With that in mind, here are eight easily accessible cities that can be explored meaningfully in as little as a night’s stay—all vetted by some of the world’s leading travel specialists. Tack them onto a work trip or use them as inspiration for the next free weekend on your calendar.
Ljubljanica
Central Europe travel specialist Nathalie Nagy, of ProTravel, ranks Slovenia’s capital as a top destination for quick trips, partly because the city is so compact and walkable. “It’s an easy, 1.5-hour drive or train ride from Zagreb—close to Austria, the Istrian Peninsula, and Italy,” she says, which makes it a sort of “cultural crossroads.” Even better, it’s characterized by “charming red-tiled roofs, curving narrow streets, lovely Baroque architecture, and whimsical bridges that connect the two sides of the city over the Ljubljanica River,” says Nagy.
It’s not a city for five-star hotels—not yet, anyway—so stay in Hotel Cubo, the best boutique option. Or book an Airbnb, then organize your itinerary around these exemplary restaurants. Food, after all, is the best way to explore the cultural fusions that makes Slovenia so special.
Stockholm
Jack Ezon of Ovation Vacations says “Stockholm’s sophisticated music, shopping, art, and museums are overshadowed only by its eclectic nightlife.” It’s true: The city that birthed Spotify has all sorts of quirky bars such as Gondolen, set in a cantilevered space that hovers over the archipelago, and Grill, whose eight rooms are reimagined by interior designers every season.
Be sure to survey the city’s more traditional side during the day: The old city of Gamla Stan is where Nobel prizes are awarded each year, bakeries everywhere peddle a cardamom-infused pastry called kardemummabullar that is like a cinnamon bun on steroids, and the shellfish at Lisa Elmqvist’s stall in the Ostermalms Saluhall market is mind-bogglingly fresh and flavorful.
Make your base the new At Six hotel, which has floor-to-ceiling views of the city and a super-central location; from there, you can stroll down the waterfront to the Vasamuseet, a museum dedicated to a restored Viking ship that’s cooler than it sounds.
Manchester
It’s known more for football, but there’s so much more to this emerging business hub, says Yaron Yarimi, a bon vivant with experience in Frosch Travel’s corporate and leisure divisions. “In two days, you can see the Fletcher Moss botanical garden, the Manchester Cathedral, and lots of museums,” he tells Bloomberg, citing dozens of small and manageable cultural institutions within the 45-square-mile city. (Yes, one is dedicated to the U.K.’s football memorabilia, but we’d recommend the newly expanded Whitworth, with its excellent Turner collection and sprawling sculpture gardens.)
Luckily for you, a spate of new and lovely hotels have recently opened in town, including the King Street Townhouse (whose killer rooftop pool overlooks the spires of Manchester Town Hall) and the residential-feeling Oddfellows on the Park, which occupies a grand Georgian building in leafy Bruntwood Park.
Panama City
The conveniently located midpoint of North and South America has emerged as an ideal business trip add-on, says Ashish Sanghrajka, president of Big Five Tours and Expeditions. But flight access is far from the only draw: This international crossroads “is worth exploring for its cathedral tower, Old Panama Museum, and the old city compound called Casco Viejo, which dates from the late 1600s,” says Sanghrajka.
The tiny Casco Viejo area is indeed where you should spend the bulk of your two-day trip. Stay at the 50-room American Trade Hotel, developed by Ace Hotels, with its can’t-miss jazz club run by Panamanian Grammy winner Danilo Perez. Have the concierge book you into a walking tour so you can learn about the meticulous architectural restoration that’s brought this neighborhood back from the brink, then go shopping for Panama hats and kick back over al fresco rounds of mojitos and ceviche at Ego y Narcisco.
Montréal
It’s only an hour from New York by plane, but Montréal feels worlds away with its Franco-American vibes, festival culture, and beautifully preserved Vieux Port. For such a tiny city, Montreal has an outsize food scene. Download the app DINR for last-minute reservations at such tough-to-book spots as Joe Beef, then hightail it to boutique-lined Boulevard St. Laurent, where you’ll find everything from all-day wine bars with outdoor seating to the highly photogenic La Diperie, which peddles frozen yogurt cones dipped and rolled in a variety of sweet and savory toppings. (Think dark chocolate and peanut butter magic shells, speckled with pistachios or pretzels.)
Pro tip: Don’t scramble for Montréal-style smoked meat sandwiches and bagels until after dinner and drinks. Some of the city’s best institutions, such as Jarry Smoked Meat (which is less touristy than Schwartz’s) and St-Viateur Bagel, are open 24/7.
Bordeaux
Ezon says this wine capital is one of the most overlooked gems in France, “a miniature Paris, with fabulous markets, museums, and one of the densest concentrations of Michelin-stars in the world.” Add the vineyards, easy train access, and the city’s sheer walkability, and you’ll wonder why it took you so long to weekend here.
Check into La Grande Maison, a six-room manse in the middle of town that’s run by one of the area’s top winemakers, Bernard Magrez. There, you can hit on every one of Bordeaux’s draws without stepping out the front door: wine tasting and blending workshops, a two-Michelin-starred restaurant by Pierre Gagnaire, and access to a leading art collection. But leave you should: The hotel can send you out in a gleaming wooden boat to harvest and taste oysters in the Arcachon Basin, you can helicopter out to the area’s best wine estates, or you might simply stroll the magnificent Place de la Bourse, with its mirror-like reflecting pool.
Dresden
Did you know Dresden is known as the Florence of the North? According to Nagy, that’s one way to sum up its beauty; she loves this 800-year-old city on the Elbe River for its meticulously rehabbed Saxon architecture (reconstructed after World War II) and vibrant cultural offerings.
Many of Dresden’s historic monuments have been given new life as part of a museum complex that resembles the Smithsonian. The Zwinger is hailed for its beautiful Vermeers and a curious collection of historical scientific instruments while the Schloss is a literal gold mine for 18th-century jewelry and design; lovers of history should make a bee line to the architecturally stunning military museum, which is a little farther afield. As long as you pick and choose exhibits, it’s realistic to see two of them—and to walk the city’s picturesque old center—in a single day. Plus, says Nagy, the city makes a perfect stopover between Berlin and Prague.
San Miguel de Allende
This tiny expat haven, smack in the middle of Mexico, has been rapidly gaining buzz as a must-visit getaway: It hosted the finale of Top Chef in 2015 and was recently named the best city in the world by Travel + Leisure. Ezon says that partly reflects how easy it is to get there from the Midwest and the West Coast and partly due to its overwhelmingly Mexican charm. “Just strolling the streets throws you back to a Colonial-era yesteryear,” he says, describing such iconic sights as the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcangel church, the locals with wide-brimmed hats and guitars slung over their shoulders, and the riotously colorful streetscapes.
Here, vacation mode sets in quickly—and you don’t need much time to reap the benefits. Stick to a loose agenda of gallery hopping and taco crawling around the Centro Historico (make this excellent list your guide), leaving ample time to lounge around your hotel. The landscaped pool deck at the Rosewood and the spa at the Hotel Matilda are reasons enough to travel.
