The record was recorded on December 2 This heavily modified Porsche 911 rose to an altitude of 6,734 meters above sea level. We are talking about the Porsche 911 Carrera 4S, which received new portal axles that increase ground clearance to an impressive 350 mm. To ensure that the all-terrain sports car is not damaged when climbing over rocks, it has been equipped with a durable aramid fiber underbody guard. [caption id="attachment_85758" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Porsche 911[/caption] Three-time Le Mans champion Romain Dumas piloted a modified Porsche 911 equipped with a pair of carbon fiber seats and a five-point harness. Engineers modified the PDK transmission by lowering the gear ratios to make it easier to control acceleration at low speeds. Another important change was the adjustment of the steering, which became more precise on rough terrain. The factory output of this six-cylinder engine is 443 hp. [caption id="attachment_85759" align="aligncenter" width="780"] Porsche 911[/caption] Porsche 911 with portal axles rose to a record height of 6734 m The car used no fossil fuels, the tank was filled with synthetic fuel produced from water and carbon dioxide using renewable energy sources. To reach the top of the western ridge of Ojos del Salado in Chile, an escort vehicle was required. Both teams had to endure cold and thin air. The air at this altitude was about half as dense as at sea level. After two weeks of acclimatization at high altitude, the record was taken last Saturday, December 2. The two vehicles started their journey at 3:30 a.m. and reached the summit at 3:58 p.m. Due to difficult conditions with sub-zero temperatures, thin air and remote terrain, the team took two doctors with them. New Consumer Reports test Consumer Reports, a non-profit organization that has been protecting the interests of consumers since 1936, tested the range of various electric vehicles. [caption id="attachment_85698" align="aligncenter" width="780"] BMW and Mercedes-Benz[/caption] BMW and Mercedes-Benz were also the best among electric vehicles. The test was carried out on a highway at a speed of 112 km/h, and involved vehicles with mileage ranging from 3,000 to 24,000 km, while outside temperatures during testing ranged from 21 to 32 °C. Even under these ideal conditions, nearly half of the 22 EVs failed to meet EPA ratings. The worst performers were the Ford F-150 Lightning, Tesla Model S and Lucid Air. The Nissan Ariya performed well, close to the EPA estimate. BMW's electric vehicles performed significantly better than expected. The most successful of the group was the Mercedes-Benz EQE.
