Russian movies rant

ok time to actually make an attempt to live up to my blog name. 

I RLY RLY think that L. Gaidai’s movies are overrated. First of all, a lot of his movies rely on good acting. Take away the famous trio of Nikulin-Morgunov-Vitsin, and most of his movies would lose their charm completely. Second of all, while the scriptwriting is good, what always annoys me about his films is the overuse of those silly high speed chase scenes (they take up so much time and they're so, so irritating), and other tropes of slapstick. Not to mention that  racist moment in “Operation Y and Shurik’s Other Adventures”. But honestly, what annoys me most is how his version of “Twelve Chairs” is considered better then Zakharov’s version. The actor playing Bender can’t even compare with Mironov (or especially Yursky’s) Bender, the fact that he cut out great characters like Bezenchuk and the “Mechanic-Intellectual”, the fact that the “Ella the cannibal” character did not come across at all, while in Zakharov’s version Shanina did a great job, the same gimmicks used over and over again… it wasn’t a bad movie, but it wasn't “Twelve Chairs”. And Gaidai is by no means a bad director, his films are iconic, but i still think that they're overrated. Ok, end rant.
