So sorry, this is going to be a REALLY long post about a Furby mystery with no real conclusion.
Tumblr media
This is my international (okay, intermetropolitan) Furb of mystery, Cranberry. I found her on October 11, 2022 in a random bin in an antique store/flea market in Boise, Idaho. I wish I could remember which store it was, but I digress. A 1998 hard plastic McDonalds Furby, a bit scuffed but still cheerful, with brown eyes, gray primary “fur”, red accent “fur”, and a blue tuft of fuzz atop her head. So why is she so mysterious?
In a random moment getting back to the car, I turned her over and noticed smudged ink, too smudged to make out every number, but clear enough to tell: someone had written coordinates on the bottom of this Furby. There was no other context, I presumed she was once used as a clue in some sort of treasure hunt similar to geocaching. Maybe the treasure was long gone, maybe there never was a treasure, but my curiosity was piqued.
I compiled a long list of what the coordinates might be (mostly in Oregon), but it wasn’t a long vacation and my traveling companion (who wasn’t keen on Furbies anyway) didn’t want to go on a wild goose chase (fair enough, gas is expensive).
Tumblr media
Now unfortunately I didn’t get a picture then, and they’re even more smudged now, but I just felt like sharing. Maybe I’ll pull up my list of coordinates again someday, and go on a treasure hunt/road trip. Who even knows if there’s “treasure” still to be found, but I love an adventure.
Nowadays Cranberry lives a peaceful life in [undisclosed location], and spends most of her time in the company of a 2005 Burger King Furby named Montague “Shock Top” Chapman (found June 8th, 2022, in an antique mall in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho).
Tumblr media
It is not known if they are dating or merely co-conspirators in a far-reaching plot with international consequences.

I waded through a river to get to a geocache today.
When I'd found the cache (inside a reservoir) I realised I didn't know how to get home so I just picked a random direction, ended up surrounded by farmland, walked along the road until the pavement began again, and kept looking at passersby like 'heh... they don't know I found a plastic container with a logbook four hours ago'

VINDICATION!!!
There's a geocache less than 200 meters from my apartment and I could NOT find it despite multiple attempts. No one has found it in three years. Finally got in touch with someone who found it in 2021 and they confirmed that I had indeed checked the right hole in the rock and it's missing.
The cache owner hasn't been maintaining it so maybe I'll see if it should get archived thus freeing up the space for me to put one of my own there 😈

I just found a geocache without even looking for it, and it seemed like it hadn’t been found for a while. Probably because it was a pill bottle in a creek and everyone else is smart enough to not pick it up and open it…
