Something i generally dislike about geocaching isn't even about the activity itself. It's just that the community calls non-cachers "muggles"

it just makes me kinda uncomfortable that we're using harry potter terminology...just personally...as a trans person.

I waded through a river to get to a geocache today.

When I'd found the cache (inside a reservoir) I realised I didn't know how to get home so I just picked a random direction, ended up surrounded by farmland, walked along the road until the pavement began again, and kept looking at passersby like 'heh... they don't know I found a plastic container with a logbook four hours ago'

did some more geocaching! was a good long walk and much needed outing. a lot of the caches we tried were dnfs from previous months which was sad but managed to find a few!

VINDICATION!!!

There's a geocache less than 200 meters from my apartment and I could NOT find it despite multiple attempts. No one has found it in three years. Finally got in touch with someone who found it in 2021 and they confirmed that I had indeed checked the right hole in the rock and it's missing.

The cache owner hasn't been maintaining it so maybe I'll see if it should get archived thus freeing up the space for me to put one of my own there 😈

Hear me out, geocaching but specifically Dice and other DnD items like minis and whatnot. Go on actual adventurers with your friends to track down and find loot (dice) like true dice goblins. Little poetry hints left on a website with a general area, quest givers who have placed the cache somewhere and actually “give you the quest” to find it, hell even making “information guilds” you can ask to try and gleam more info or hints towards a location. Bonus points if you go searching in costume.
