The Blue Palace is GOTHIC as hell by the way? A secret vampire who preys on the prisoners in the dungeons! An entire wing closed off because it's haunted! Court intrigue, with forbidden romance! Evil old queens coming back to from the dead to take over!
There was even an unused quest for Boethiah to assassinate Elisif and Erikur came out suspiciously on top of that situation.
Also, that whole castle design. It's pretty crazy when you see it sitting on that narrow cliff from afar.
And Tullius is that one sane man who was dropped into that odd situation.

General Tullius, Ulfric Stormcloak, and Harkon Volkihar all give divorced 40 something year old man vibes. The difference is the flavor of divorced man.
Tullius is the one who discarded all personal attachments and sold his soul to his job. He is still miserable, but his country is better for it, right?
Ulfric is the type to take his anger out on the world (I think it's funny to think he started a civil war because a woman left him. It oddly fits him)
And stretched rat Harkon took a slightly similar route than Ulfric, with his answer being plain murder.
Truly the most 40-something years old guys of all time.
