if i’m going to continue giving “hot takes” about the transformers fandom: i genuinely believe that a lot of people’s personal tags for transformers removing the trans in the word in exchange for tags like “gayformers”, “gay robots”, or any other similar variant also most often correlates to the transphobia in the fandom no matter how the fandom tries to paint itself as trans friendly.

even if i were to look past how poorly the once sole trans female character was treated for decades by both the official material and the fandom, how a lot of the fandom is filled with transmisogynist fetishists and really how a lot of “fan attempts” to develop transformers biology of all things have always been bioessentialism filled to the brink with eugenics and racism, the mere fact that this fandom would rather portray canonical gay men as TME lesbians instead of the canonical lesbians, three of whom are trans, in fan content did not go over me. i won’t forget just how nasty this fandom reacted to trans headcanons or readings while portraying male characters as cis women of all fucking things. how you guys treat starscream the poor fucking woman. how prevalent shit like “mpreg” is and how weird you guys all are about chests and genitalia and how you guys centered “mating” in transformers to basically correlate genitalia to what role the character had in a relationship. how people were complaining about not having transmasc representation when arcee was literally the only canonical trans character we had at the time and going so far as to erase the fact she is trans until they wanted brownie points for making their weekly “arcee is a trans queen! ❤️” post and forgetting about her for the 32nd time. i remember.
