This photo was taken in 1955, but similar activity could be seen in the Garment District into the 1980s. Dresses made in the factories are being wheeled to—a department store? (Macy's is in the vicinity, as were Gimbel's, Saks 34th St., Ohrbach's, and others.) Or a truck to carry them further afield?

Forgot to share this here, but I made a silly little Goblet Grotto fan animation on my DS Lite!
Thecatamites games have an absolute grip on me, they're genuinely one of my favorite examples to use to counter people to say that video games aren't art. These games are absolutely beautiful to me, and are endlessly unique. (I really need to finish playing the Of The Killer games haha)

It's good to watch where you're going, because occasionally you'll find stuff like this. It's like a Rorschach test of sorts.
I see Orville Redenbacher. I guess that means I want popcorn.

A typical day in the Garment District, this one on October 8, 1952, a bustling hub of fashion and manufacturing. The workers who cut, sewed, and pushed endless racks and hand-trucks around the midtown neighborhood were “the living embodiment of New York’s working-class economy, whose sweat and long hours draped the shoulders of the rest of the country,” The New York Times reported in 2012. A stretch of 7th Avenue, between 26th and 42nd Streets, was officially designated “Fashion Avenue” in 1972.

This week, we got the chance to visit Create a Marker, one of the few garment manufacturers left in the district. Everything is sourced and made here. They work with just about any brand you could think of, primarily focusing on ready to wear. They also encourage up and coming designers to work with them to get a head start on their brand which I think is very inspiring. A key takeaway that I learned from this visit was hearing about the different types of measurements and margins that they have to use when manufacturing garments for a brand. Thank you Create a Marker for your time and amazing experience!

The Scavenger Hunt
The adventure through New York continued with an exciting scavenger hunt in the heart of the Garment District. We began at the New York Public Library, then made our way to the peaceful Bryant Park, nestled behind the iconic building. In a city that never sleeps, this park offered a rare moment of peace beneath its trees.
Leaving the calmness of Bryant Park, we headed toward Fashion Avenue, the vibrant center of the Garment District. Along the way, we passed iconic fashion landmarks like The Famous Yellow Button, plaques honoring fashion designers, and much more. As we strolled down the avenue, we encountered the world-famous Macy's, along with other popular stores. For a brief moment, I was distracted by a man I swore was Timothée Chalamet. Nearby, Macy's featured another charming park, offering visitors a quiet space to relax.
This scavenger hunt revealed a side of the Garment District I had yet to fully explore. While I was familiar with many of the locations, experiencing them firsthand with new company made the day feel fun, and full of wonder.
