Memories : The Best Films of the 2010s
Only a few years into my tenure as a film blogger, and I’ve been tasked with a monumental undertaking : ranking the top films of the last decade. Reflecting year by year is a journey in its own right, and with things like recency bias to take into account, plus the dice roll of blessing and curse that perspective and time bring to older films, I knew that this would be memorable at best, and stressful at worst.
That being said, I don’t claim to have seen every movie, so I know that there are some ‘glaring’ omissions. I am always open to recommendations for films I should watch (for the purpose of blogging on them or otherwise), but DOOMonFILM has always been about my personal experience as a film fan, first and foremost. Discussion is welcome, and constructive criticism will always be considered, but this is one man’s opinion.

THOUGHTS ON THE DECADE
The 2010s, despite moments of controversy in terms of diversity, turned out to be surprisingly forward-thinking in hindsight. On more than one occasion in the decade, the film of the year (in terms of awards or in terms of critical/public reception), as well as highlight films of each year, were made by foreign directors. Women and minorities also managed to be recognized in front of and behind the camera at what seemed like a higher rate. Newer technologies were embraced, such as pushes forward in new cameras or directors opting to shoot on devices as small as iPhones, leaps forward in special effects, and a multitude of movies given the iMax treatment. A handful of directors happened to put out multiple movies throughout the decade, and a few of those in that handful managed to make multiple award-winning and widely accepted films. Marvel left such an impact on Hollywood, and the worldwide movie industry, that DC was forced to try and follow suit, and mergers with Sony and Disney were top tier news for months on end. Actors like Scarlett Johanson, Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and Leonardo DiCaprio, among others, solidified themselves as box-office legends, while actors on both sides of their career (first-timers and those in the twilight of their career) found success throughout the decade. All in all, it was a decade that continued to make me happy to be a movie fan, and as hard as it was to do, I managed to find 100 films throughout the decade to rank.

10. The Last Black Man in San Francisco (dir. Joe Talbot, 2019)
I saw this film as the decade was winding to a close, but it made easily one of the starkest impressions on me of any film-going experience I can recall. The movie looks amazing, the score and soundtrack are powerful, the acting is rich and dynamic, San Francisco is as beautiful on film as it is in real life, and the thoughts that arise from the narrative presented are the kind that hang around and result in personal changes that matter. A shining achievement from a stellar year of film.

9. Inception (dir. Christopher Nolan, 2010)
If Christopher Nolan wasn’t already considered top tier prior to Inception, any doubters were left floored at the close of this masterpiece. For a story that could have easily been way too convoluted for standard audiences, the visuals, direction and pacing guide us through the madness perfectly. For anyone interested in dream depictions on cinema, for fans of stellar action, and for the smart people who know the quality that comes with the Nolan name, this one was a no-brainer.

8. mother! (dir. Darren Aronofsky, 2017)
After being a bit on the nose with Noah, in terms of a film on religion, most directors would take that as a sign to move on from the topic. For a director like Darren Aronofsky, however, the next step was to seemingly go back to your mind-scrambling roots, dig deeper symbolically, narratively and metaphorically, and come back to the table with one of the most divisive and controversial films of the decade. mother! will clearly be a film ripe for analysis for years to come, and for as subjective and deep an experience as the film is, this reflection is welcome, as it serves to enrich future viewing experiences.

7. Uncut Gems (dir. Josh and Benny Safdie, 2019)
How long does a film have to be out to be considered one of the best of the decade? In the case of Uncut Gems, I will allow recency bias, as it is clearly evident at the beginning of the closing credits that the film is special and will resonate for years to come. The Safdie brothers already had a classic under their belt with Good Time, and throwing that Sandler magic into the mix only amplifies their heightened and immersive style.

6. The Florida Project (dir. Sean Baker, 2017)
There are a small fraternity of directors that put out their first films and follow-up films in the 2010s, and while examples of possible award snubs can be found for these directors, there was one clear-cut case of oversight : the 2017 lack of recognition for Sean Baker’s immaculate, beautiful and moving The Florida Project. While Tangerine was certainly the loudest of warning shots a first time director could provide, the amount of growth, nuance and confidence found in this follow-up deserved multiple awards, not just an acting nod for Willem Dafoe. Perhaps Baker’s next film will bring him the recognition he deserves in terms of awards, but he’s already made a clear cut name for himself.

5. Hereditary (dir. Ari Aster, 2018)
I rediscovered a love for horror films in the 2010s, and a key reason would be the emergence of director Ari Aster. Upon seeing trailers for Hereditary, I knew that it would probably scare the life out of me, but the taste of the story given was so gripping I had to see it. The fact that the trailer was so powerful, only for the movie to unfold in ways that I never would have imagined or discerned from the trailer, was one of the most rewarding film experiences of the decade. Toni Collette also gave a performance for the ages.

4. You Were Never Really Here (dir. Lynne Ramsay, 2018)
It’s arguable that Joaquin Phoenix may have had the strongest decade of any actor, and for my money’s worth, he was at his best in You Were Never Really Here. Much of the angst presented was previously explored in The Master, and as great as Joker is, it’s essentially the DCEU version of You Were Never Really Here, tonally and in terms of specific elements. Nobody short of the Safdie brothers are making movies that look, sound and feel like this one, and the unfortunate practice of human trafficking hitting the news forefront makes this film as timely as it is sad.

3. Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (dir. Edgar Wright, 2010)
Hands down the coolest film of the decade. Not since Who Framed Roger Rabbit? had so many elements that I loved from other properties managed to find their way into the same movie, and the way that the gumbo was prepared and served was pitch perfect. As my friend Erin stated after we viewed the film, ‘If you watch this movie and don’t like it, I don’t think we can be friends’. Some of my favorite sequences of any film are in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, and this is the EXACT kind of film I look forward to one day sharing with my children.

2. Parasite (dir. Bong Joon-ho, 2019)
Another recent film that made an instant impact. In terms of topics like honesty, entitlement, and family dynamics, nothing I can think of in recent memory is touching Parasite. The parallels between the two families presented are perfect both visually and in the performances, and with each new bit of information presented, much of what you were previously presented is immediately recontextualized and put into question. This film, from front to back, is one of the most gripping journeys a filmgoer can take.

1. Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (dir. Alejandro González Iñárritu, 2014)
Easily my favorite film of the decade. This is the closest thing to a song-poem that I’ve ever seen presented on film, and it’s heartbreakingly beautiful. Nothing else released in the decade looked or sounded like this film, and the way it meta-reflects on Hollywood, Broadway, superhero films and the importance of actors is equal parts hilarious, thought-provoking and wonderfully frustrating. The film answers enough questions it posits so as to not completely confound the viewer, but it leaves enough open-ended so that repeat viewings are rewarding. A true achievement of film, regardless of decade.

So... American Gods season 2 episode 1
It was a good episode. I’m back in the mood, baby! No, seriously, it was like watching the first season, I didn’t see much difference. Maybe it was a bit less “grandiose” but it was still beautiful and interesting.
# So, actually Easter refused to reappear because Wednesday killed her rabbits. On one hand, I’m like “What? It’s too easy!”. But on the other hand... it makes perfect sense. And it’s actually something I thought about when watching the Easter episode. When Wednesday killed the rabbits with his car, I thought to myself “And that’s how he hopes to conquer Eostre? That’s a bad start”. And I’m quite happy it came back to bite him in the ass. So I’m quite pleased.
# Media is missing, and from the snipets we’ve seen (I’m not only referring to the episode but also to other promotional material), it is because she is too old and was replaced by New Media. I have to say, it is also the most logical explanation, and one I talked about when trying to guess how they would explain New Media. It was clear that Media was an old New God, she even said it herself: she was a goddess of radios before being the one of television, and all her references were a bit “outdated” and not well known of the younger generation (Monroe, Lucy Ball/Ricardo, David Bowie, Judy Garland). Plus it illustrates perfectly a point that was made in the book: the New Gods have a very limited lifespan, and when they get too old or outdated, they are replaced. (remember the god of railroads and trains in the final part of the book). So yeah, I’m quite glad with that.
# Something really weirds me out... Did Mr. World said he could have been killed by Odin? In the beginning, when he gets out of the limousine. Because... first because he is a god, I didn’t imagine he could be “killed” that easily. Especially since he is one of the New Gods, the current more powerful god. The Old Gods, them, are forgotten and powerless, hence why they can be easily killed (however... if it is a nod to the book reveal, then it is brilliant). Secondly, because, at the end of season 1, I thought it wasn’t Mr. World in person that was at Easter’s party. I thought it was merely a projection of him through a Children, and not a real one. Or maybe the Children are an extension of Mr. World himself? It’s something to think about.
# So, Mr. World was implied in Operation Paperclip, the “Compton Crack War”, the Roswell crash and the (fake) Moon Landing. Nice. It just reinforce him as the god of conspiracy theorists. “The man behind the man behind the man”.
# We have now Black Briar. A secret facility that... is still quite mysterious. They are the adaptation of the “spooks” and “black hats” of the book, the new version of the “Men in Black”, another aspect of the conspiracy theories. And, just like in the book, it’s still ambiguous over what they truly are. In the books, it looked like they were humans working for the New Gods, and it was unclear if they actually knew that they were obeying gods. Here it’s the same thing. We only see one man in Black Briar, an old military man, that doesn’t recognize or seem to know Mr. World. He is only convinced to obey him when he discovers that he is above the President of the United-States himself. Also, Black Briar seem to be the “secret facility of the Government”, since their “Eyes of Argus” is only destined to be used by the President himself. It’s also quite a nice touch that Black Briar (both the secret facility and the club above it) are populated by eldery, rich, white men, playing golf or linked to the military. Really a nice touch.
# However... I have the problem with the Eyes of Argus. It’s apparently the first time Mr. World uses it, and it is apparently merely spying people through satellites. BUT he already used satellites in season 1, to help the police arrest Shadow and Wednesday. He was already using satellites before that, so... What about the Eyes of Argus? A possible explanation may be that the satellite was in fact used by another god. Maybe Media (after all, her eye appeared in the surveillance camera of a bank) or maybe by Technical Boy (since he is associated with websites, he can have used a Google-Map like thing). Or maybe, Mr. World suddenly uses Black Briar and its Eyes of Argus only to come in contact with Mr. Town...
# ... speaking of Mr. Town... He appeared here, kind of. Mr. World used the secret keyboard of Black Briar (only accessible with a special code) to contact him. As a result, I wonder: is Mr. Town really just an underling of Black Briar? Given that they upgraded Mr. World to a whole new god in himself, I thought they would do the same with Mr. Town and give him a bit more importance. Make him a god, for example. But here, it seems that he is probably just a mortal man, obeying to Black Briar...
# ... well, almost a normal mortal man. He is the sniper that shoots the gods at Motel America. I’m quite sure of that. I haven’t checked the credit for the role of the sniper, but I’ll do it again soon. And this same sniper actually uses... the aliens. When Shadow beats him, he summons a ray of light from the sky that kidnaps Shadow, like an UFO would do, and then he is gone far away in the sky. So, yes, the aliens appeared. And apparently they were summoned/obeyed to this sniper/Mr. Town. So... are they really the aliens we were waiting for? Or is it just some of the high-technology used by the spooks/black hats, that looks like they are aliens using UFOs? I mean, the men in black and aliens were always associated so... it could be quite normal.
# TV Tropes identified Black Briar as a god in itself, not an organization or a facility, and they said it was the little old man in military garb. I just checked and they are completely wrong. Black Briar is a facility (during the dialogue between the man and Mr. World they talk about it like if it was an object, not a person), and the little old man is said in the credits to be “The Caretaker” (Eric Peterson). So this little man is not named Black Briar, he is only the caretaker of Black Briar. And he is probably not a god.
# Let’s just appreciate the list of the other gods present at the meeting... Outside of Mama-Ji (Kali), we have Ame-No Uzume (Uni Park), Ahura Mazda (Al Maini), Frau Holle (Colleen Reynolds). There is also a bunch of other gods whose identity is not identified : Unknown God (Jack Foley), MJ Hobo God (Edward A. Queffelec), Beautiful Woman God (Sonya Cote), Old Wizard God (John Stoneham Sr.) and Thuggish Man (Mike Scherer).
# There is in the credits a Jamieson M. Donnell credited as a “New God”. Who is this guy? I haven’t spotted him in the episode. Is he the sniper? In that case, it’s not Mr. Town (Dean Winters).
Edit: Nope, I checked, this “New God” isn’t the Sniper. The sniper is played by Felix Famelart, so he isn’t Mr. Town either. So I guess Mr. Town is rather the leader of the operation, and the one giving order to the snipers and alien/people stuff. The New God also isn’t the Golfer (he is Chad Camilerri). He isn’t the Bunny Suit Newscaster (Ariel Lukane) nor the Security Guard (Bryan Kelly). So... who is this guy? I need to rewatch the episode
# I also love how to access to the Black Briar secret facility you have to show a paperclip. Outside of the reference to Operation Paperclip, it’s a whole symbol. The paperclip is the symbol of every bureaucracy, every administration, of all the paperwork.

Storms batter aging power grid (AP) Power outages from severe weather have doubled over the past two decades across the U.S., as a warming climate stirs more destructive storms that cripple broad segments of the nation’s aging electrical grid, according to an Associated Press analysis of government data. Forty states are experiencing longer outages—and the problem is most acute in regions seeing more extreme weather, U.S. Department of Energy data shows. The blackouts can be harmful and even deadly for the elderly, disabled and other vulnerable communities. Power grid maintenance expenses are skyrocketing as utilities upgrade decades-old transmission lines and equipment. And that means customers who are hit with more frequent and longer weather outages also are paying more for electricity. “The electric grid is our early warning,” said University of California, Berkeley grid expert Alexandra von Meier. “Climate change is here and we’re feeling real effects.”
Vertical Farms Expand as Demand for Year-Round Produce Grows (NYT) A recently constructed 95,000-square-foot warehouse in Compton, Calif., ticks off all the boxes for the booming storage industry: 32-foot-high ceilings, a secure truck court and access to truck routes. But it won’t be used for cargo or storage. Plenty Unlimited, an agricultural start-up based in San Diego, is using the site for an indoor vertical farm, expected to open later this year. “It’s the ability to put production anywhere without considering climate,” said Arama Kukutai, the company’s chief executive. At a time when supply chain disruptions continue to slow distribution, consumers embrace healthy eating habits and climate change is expected to affect crop yields, a practice known as controlled-environment agriculture, including indoor vertical farms relying on artificial light and technology, is attracting venture capitalists. Vertical farming is expected to grow to $9.7 billion worldwide by 2026, from $3.1 billion in 2021, according to ResearchAndMarkets.com, a data analysis firm.
Peru imposes, then withdraws curfew to quell price protests (AP) Peru’s president on Tuesday lifted a curfew he had decreed less than a day earlier in the country’s capital and its main port in a bid to quell sometimes violent protests over rising fuel and food prices. President Pedro Castillo had announced the surprise curfew and emergency measures shortly before midnight and ended them Tuesday afternoon after more than 1,000 people protested the stay-at-home order in Lima and amid a meeting with congressional leaders. Opposition lawmakers had decried the emergency measures as illegal. “It is up to the executive at this time to rescind the measure limiting mobility,” Castillo said while he met with lawmakers to discuss the political crisis. The curfew and emergency measures marked the first time since the government of now-jailed strongman Alberto Fujimori that Peruvian authorities had ordered people to stay at home to control protests. On April 5, 1992, Fujimori shut down Peru’s congress and judicial system, and sent tanks into the streets amid social and economic unrest.
Russia-Ukraine war notes (WSJ) Ukraine urged civilians to leave eastern parts of the country as it braced for a major Russian offensive. Following heavy losses, Moscow pulled its troops from the Kyiv area and the north last week, a strategy shift the Kremlin says will allow it to focus on seizing the Donbas region still under Ukrainian control. Western officials said that Russia's withdrawal from around Kyiv is largely complete. Some residents are returning to the capital city but remain skeptical that they have seen the last of Russian forces. The U.S. Department of Justice is working with European authorities on a plan to gather evidence about atrocities in Ukraine, Attorney General Merrick Garland said Wednesday. Pope Francis decried “horrendous cruelties” in Ukraine, including in “the martyred city of Bucha,” where reports of atrocities have prompted allegations of Russian war crimes, which Moscow denies. China shifted its tone, calling images from Bucha extremely disturbing, while continuing to avoid casting blame on Moscow.
As Ukraine war drags on, Pentagon makes long-term plans for Europe (Washington Post) The open-ended war in Ukraine has thrown the Pentagon’s long-term planning into question, with senior U.S. defense officials expected to revamp how they deploy military forces in Eastern Europe and the Baltics amid deepening anxiety over Russia’s broader ambitions. Gen. Mark A. Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said Tuesday that he favors creating permanent bases for U.S. troops in the region but to deploy personnel there rotationally, “so you get the effect of permanence” at a lesser cost because expenses such as family housing and schools are not involved. “I believe a lot of our allies, especially those such as the Baltics or Poland or Romania, they are very willing to establish permanent bases,” Milley said in testimony before the House Armed Services Committee. “They will build them and pay for them.” The Pentagon has drastically increased the number of U.S. troops in Europe, from about 60,000 to more than 100,000, as a result of Russia’s military buildup around Ukraine and subsequent invasion. At the height of the Cold War in the 1950s, the U.S. military presence throughout Europe was more than 400,000.
Zelensky Accuses Russia of Atrocities and Criticizes U.N.’s Inaction (NYT) With evidence mounting of atrocities in the Kyiv suburbs, and Russian forces preparing for a new offensive farther east, President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine delivered a scathing speech to the United Nations on Tuesday, accusing Russia of a litany of horrors and questioning whether a world body that takes no action to stop a war serves any purpose. “Where is the security that the Security Council needs to guarantee?” Mr. Zelensky said, raising the question of whether Russia deserved to keep its seat on the council. “Are you ready to close the U.N.? Do you think that the time of international law is gone? If your answer is no, then you need to act immediately.” The chamber fell silent as a short video provided by Mr. Zelensky’s government played, showing some of the hundreds of corpses found strewn around the city of Bucha, northwest of Kyiv, after Russian forces retreated last week. Revulsion over the apparent executions discovered in Bucha deepened Russia’s economic isolation, despite its denials of responsibility. The United States has started blocking Russia from making debt payments using dollars held in American banks, a move designed to deplete its international currency reserves and potentially push Russia toward its first foreign currency debt default in a century.
Some Ukrainian Refugees Are Returning Home, Despite the Risks (NYT) From her bearing and demeanor, the college instructor waiting at the Lviv bus station appeared to be accustomed to respect and, judging by her fur-trimmed coat and pink mohair hat adorned with a sparkling pin, used to a certain elegance. But after two weeks on the road as a refugee with her daughter and 1-year-old grandson, she had had enough. In Poland and the Czech Republic, Oksana, who did not want to give her last name, said she was just another refugee in a shelter who did not speak the language. Now she and her family were joining the growing number of Ukrainians who were returning home. For the first time since the Russian invasion six weeks ago, an increasing number of travelers coming through the western Ukrainian city of Lviv and other transit hubs are returning home rather than fleeing. There are still far more citizens leaving their homes. But according to travelers and officials, the surge in returnees reflects a growing belief that the war could last years, and a willingness to live with a measure of danger rather than live as a refugee in another country, bereft of home and community. “The statistics have changed a lot recently,” Yurii Buchko, the deputy military administrator for Lviv, said in an interview. “In the beginning of the war 10 times the number of people left as those who returned.” Now, he said, on some days half of those crossing the border in Lviv Province were returning home rather than leaving.
Korean saber-rattling (Reuters, NBC) Tensions in the Korean peninsula have sharply escalated recently after North Korea tested two ballistic missiles involving a new ICBM system the country is developing. Pyongyang conducted a full ICBM test, its first since 2017, on March 24. The U.S. responded, saying it would push the U.N. Security Council to “update and strengthen” sanctions on North Korea over its “increasingly dangerous provocations.” On April 1, South Korean defense minister Suh Wook said his country’s military has a variety of missiles with significantly improved firing range, power, and “the ability to accurately and quickly hit any target in North Korea.” Calling the North the “enemy,” Suh added his ministry will actively support the military to ensure it has the capability to respond overwhelmingly to North Korea’s missile threats. On Monday, Kim Jong Un’s powerful sister Kim Yo Jong, a senior official in the government, called Suh’s remarks a “very big mistake,” and promised her country would unleash its nuclear weapons if the South were to violate “even an inch of North Korean territory.”
Shanghai to allow parents to stay with COVID-infected kids (AP) Following a public uproar, Shanghai will allow parents to stay with children infected with COVID-19 as China’s largest city sees another jump in cases. A top city health commission inspector on Wednesday said parents who “fully comprehend the health risks” and sign an agreement will be permitted to accompany their children in monitoring facilities. However, the parents must wear masks, eat separately, avoid sharing personal items and “strictly follow” all aspects of the management system, Wu Ganyu told reporters. News that parents were being separated from their infected children sparked a wave of protest online, further fueled by photos showing several children held in each cot and no parents in sight. Shanghai remains under complete lockdown to fight China’s latest outbreak, now well into the second week of what originally was publicized as a two-stage measure lasting just eight days.
AUKUS developments (Foreign Policy) The United States, United Kingdom and Australia added hypersonic weapons development to the AUKUS portfolio in a Tuesday announcement. The three nations agreed to begin “new trilateral cooperation on hypersonics and counter-hypersonics and electronic warfare capabilities, as well as to expand information sharing and to deepen cooperation on defense innovation.” Zhang Jun, China’s ambassador to the United Nations, criticized the announcement, saying it would “lead the other parts of the world into a crisis” like that in Ukraine.
Food insecurity in Africa (WSJ) A quarter of Africa’s population is facing a food-security crisis driven by severe drought, raging wars and a rise in world food prices caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the International Committee of the Red Cross warned Tuesday. Some 346 million people, from Mauritania in the west to the Horn of Africa in the east, are affected by food insecurity, Dominik Stillhart, the agency’s global operations director, told reporters in Nairobi. “What we don’t want to see is the response that comes too late, and that is why it is so important to draw attention to the situation now,” Mr. Stillhart said.

Why Is Responsive Web Design Important For Businesses Of All Sizes
Do you know if your website fails to fit the screens of multiple devices, you may incur loss in ways beyond imagination? Wondering why? Well, having a website which provides great user-experience can be the key to increase your company's online presence and achieve top rank on SERPs.
Over the last few years, the adoption of tablets and smartphones has increased enormously. And, for capitalising on the optimum usage of infographics along with other features, more and more companies are incorporating responsiveness nowadays. Not only can they reap various aesthetic and functional benefits, but also get an edge over competitors. Moreover, opting for responsive website design in Surrey can offer a great amount of flexibility and innovation.
Here's everything you need to know about making your site responsive!
4 Reasons Why Responsive Web Design Is Important For You Stronger Online Presence With a responsive website, the design of your main site reflected on the mobile, desktop and other devices remains exactly the same. So, despite being viewed from a number of devices, it will give all your users the same feeling, thus unifying your website.
Deliver Excellent UX By having a responsive site, you can deliver the most luxurious user experience for your end users. Responsive design can provide the most amazing UX which will make your users fall in love with your brand. Since no one likes a shrunken or an "ever loading" broken website, incorporating a responsive design can make your users fall in love with your brand.
Increased Conversion Rates Do you wish to get conversions from your main website? Opting for responsive web design in Surrey can be the ideal way to fulfil all your goals. Conversion rates depend on whether your users have a satisfactory experience. And, taking into account that users can visit your site from any device, you need to ensure they are willing to convert no matter what device he or she is on.
If a visitor arrives on mobile and the user has to zoom or pinch into the website to search for anything, chances are that the user will leave or bounce the site. Having a responsive site can reduce your bounce rates significantly since users will be willing to spend more time around the site and navigate to other pages of your site.
Easy To Maintain This is another major reason why you should seek a responsive web design. When numerous versions of the same site need to be managed, a lot of effort on the maintenance is needed. If the desktop and mobile sites are handled by different people, keeping everything in sync requires a great amount of planning and communication. This can be easily solved with a responsive design.
Now that you are aware of these great reasons, what are you still here for? It's time to approach a reputed website designer and reap the benefits of responsive web design!

Ten Ways to Add Value to Your Services
The saying, "nothing is for free" isn't necessarily true especially when you're talking about added value services you can offer your client. These are services you offer your clients in addition to your regular services. They can be standalone services or they can incorporate existing features of your current services. Either way, they provide an added value to your clients - once that puts you above your competition in your client's eyes.
What does it mean to add value to your services and why is it important? There are millions of small businesses out there. You need to create ways to stand apart from the crowd. Value added services are one way to do that. What exactly an added value is will vary based on whether a client is a prospect, a current client, or a past client.
Your most important client is your current client - you do the most for them. Keeping current clients happy reduces your recruitment and marketing costs and increases the stability of your business. You'll need to direct most of your efforts to this group of clients.
Next are past clients. It stands to reason that re-signing them would require less time and resources than trying to sign a new client. Past clients are also more likely to give you referrals. Your experience with past clients makes it easier to identify value added services that would likely be attractive to them.
Finally, the least amount of energy and expense should be expelled on the potential client. They are the toughest and most expensive. Why - mostly because they know nothing about you. You'll spend a lot of time and money educating them and determining which value added service is likely to appeal to them.
1. Mail or email an industry-specific article or link to your client with a personal, handwritten note saying "I thought you would find this interesting" etc.
2. Offer alternative forms of payment. Add value for your customers by providing them several different options when paying. Not everyone has a credit card or a PayPal account. When think about your business processes from your customer's perspective, you'll quickly realize the added value they receive.
3. Gift Cards, Loyalty Cards, and Prepaid Cards. Boost your business with new revenue channels and increase customer loyalty by offering a gift card, loyalty card, or prepaid card program. A more convenient alternative to gift certificates for your customers, gift card programs also help you build brand awareness. Loyalty card programs reward customers for purchases to keep them coming back.
4. Quarterly progress reports. Send your clients quarterly progress reports and outline what you accomplished together as a team and how you can help them get where they want to go next.
5. Coffee on you - Many of us "do everything except make" for our clients. Send your clients a coffee card with a note saying "today the coffee's on me!"
6. A free sample. Give away free samples of your products or products of local retailers. For example a B&B with a great jam can give away free samples.
7. Client appreciation night. Give your client a movie night on you. Send movies and popcorn with a note letting them know how much you appreciate their business.
8. Celebrate some of the more unusual holidays during the year and give small inexpensive gifts - e.g. National Popcorn Day - give out popcorn (can you tell I like popcorn!).
9. Offer annual meetings to your clients to discuss business at no charge - review progress and goals together for the next year.
10. Partner with another like business and collaborate on a coupon to offer a discount to your clients.
These are just a few ideas of ways to add value to your services. The idea that works best with each particular client will be the one that best matches their needs and interests. Be sure to do your homework. An impressed client is a happy client.

Michael Pittman can be a big target for the 49ers
Photo by Thearon W. Henderson/Getty Images
The USC receiver would give San Francisco something different in the pass offense.
Since losing the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs, the San Francisco 49ers have been busy. Most notably, they gave defensive lineman Arik Armstead a large five-year contract and traded DeForest Buckner to the Indianapolis Colts for a first-round pick.
That’s not all. Veteran defensive back Jimmie Ward was brought back on a three-year deal, and the team gave one-year contracts to defensive linemen Ronald Blair III and Kerry Hyder; offensive linemen Shon Coleman, Tom Compton, and Ben Garland; wide receivers Travis Benjamin and Kendrick Bourne; and cornerbacks Dontae Johnson and Jason Verrett.
That makes sense because the 49ers have just two picks in the top 150 of the draft. What should they do about it? Kyle Posey from Niners Nation is here with an idea in the penultimate selection of the 14th annual SB Nation NFL writers’ mock draft.
31. San Francisco 49ers: Michael Pittman Jr., WR, USC
Posey: Nobody believes the 49ers will be picking here, so I’ll take Michael Pittman from USC, assuming this takes place in the second round. Pittman gives the 49ers a big, strong receiver who can win down the field and on the intermediate level. He’s not going to be a big run-after-catch player that Kyle Shanahan typically likes, but the Niners have plenty of those types on the roster as it is. They need a receiver who can win on the perimeter. Ideally, Pittman is available in the 40s when this selection probably happens.
Pittman keeps Bourne and Trent Taylor inside, and allows the 49ers to keep Deebo Samuel on the move and find creative ways to get him the ball. If Jalen Hurd gets healthy, this will be a fun receiving corps for years to come. I’m banking on Pittman’s consistency over a few other players who may have higher ceilings.
Analysis: This pick is kind of strange because the assumption of a trade. While the 49ers do have two first-round picks, they don’t pick again until 156th overall following a number of trades. That’s why there’s belief they’ll trade the pick. But it’s not guaranteed.
Be that as it may, let’s assume the 49ers do trade down and pick in the 40s. They would likely be picking between players like Pittman, Chase Claypool of Notre Dame, and KJ Hamler of Penn State. But if you’re assuming a trade down, why not assume that Tee Higgins of Clemson is there too? He’s similar in size and playing style to Pittman, and is better at high-pointing the ball.
Top five remaining players:
15. Justin Herbert, QB, Oregon
22. Grant Delpit, S, LSU
23. Austin Jackson, OT, USC
26. Ezra Cleveland, OT, Boise State
27. Antoine Winfield Jr., S, Minnesota
Our last pick of the mock draft will post later today at 11 a.m. ET with Kent Swanson of Arrowhead Pride checking in with his pick for the Kansas City Chiefs.

TUPAC SHAKUR : TIGER OF RAPPING
HEY GUYS THIS A BLOG ABOUT THE “TIGER OF RAPPING”....... 2PAC SHAKUR, HOPE YOU LIKE IT!!!!!!!
Tupac Amaru Shakur (/ˈtuːpɑːk ʃəˈkʊər/ TOO-pahk shə-KOOR)[2] (born Lesane Parish Crooks; June 16, 1971 – September 13, 1996), also known by his stage names 2Pac and Makaveli, was an American rapper, poet and actor.[3]Shakur sold over 75 million records worldwide, making him one of the best-selling music artists of all time.[4] His double disc albums All Eyez on Me (1996) and his Greatest Hits (1998) are among the best-selling albums in the United States.[5] Shakur is consistently ranked as one of the greatest and most influential rappers of all time[6] and he has been listed and ranked as one of the greatest artists of any genre by many publications, including Rolling Stone, which ranked him 86th on its list of The 100 Greatest Artists of All Time.[7] On April 7, 2017, Shakur was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.[8]
Shakur began his career as a roadie, backup dancer and MC for the alternative hip hop group Digital Underground, eventually branching off as a solo artist.[9][10][11] Most of the themes in Shakur's songs revolved around the violence and hardship in inner cities, racism, and other social issues. Both of his parents and several other people in his family were members of the Black Panther Party, whose ideals were reflected in his songs. During the latter part of his career, Shakur was a vocal participant during the East Coast–West Coast hip hop rivalry, becoming involved in conflicts with other rappers, producers, and record-label staff members, most notably The Notorious B.I.G. and his label, Bad Boy Records.[12] Aside from his career in music, Shakur was also an actor, starring in six films and one TV show in the 1990s, including Poetic Justice (1993), Gang Related (1997) and Gridlock'd (1997).
On September 7, 1996, Shakur was shot four times in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane in Las Vegas, Nevada.[13] He was taken to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada, where he died from his injuries six days later.[14]
EARLY LIFE:
2PAC, was born on June 16, 1971, in the East Harlem section of Manhattan in New York City.[15] His birth name was Lesane Parish Crooks,[16][17][18] but in 1972, he was renamed after Túpac Amaru II,[19][20] the 18th-century Peruvianrevolutionary who was executed after leading an indigenous uprising against Spanish rule.[21] Shakur was African American.[22]
His mother Afeni Shakur (born Alice Faye Williams in North Carolina) and his father Billy Garland were active members of the Black Panther Party in New York in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Lesane was born a month after his mother was acquitted of more than 150 charges of "Conspiracy against the United States government and New York landmarks" in the New York Panther 21 trial.[23][24]
Many people in Shakur's life were involved with the Black Liberation Army; some were convicted of serious criminal offenses and imprisoned, including his mother. His godfather, Elmer "Geronimo" Pratt, a high-ranking Black Panther, was convicted of murdering a school teacher during a 1968 robbery, although his sentence was later overturned. His stepfather, Mutulu Shakur, spent four years at large on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list beginning in 1982. Mutulu was wanted for having helped his friend (no relation) Assata Shakur (also known as Joanne Chesimard), Tupac's godmother, to escape from a penitentiary in New Jersey in 1979. She had been imprisoned since 1977 for killing a state trooper in 1973. She lived as a fugitive for several years before gaining asylum in Cuba in 1985. Mutulu was caught in 1986 and eventually imprisoned for the 1981 robbery of a Brinks armored truck in which two police officers and a guard were killed.[25]
Shakur had an older stepbrother, Mopreme "Komani" Shakur, and a half-sister, Sekyiwa, two years his junior. Mopreme performed in many of his recordings.[26] In 1986, his family moved to Baltimore, Maryland.[27] After completing his second year at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School, he transferred to the Baltimore School for the Arts. There he studied acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet.[28] He performed in Shakespeare plays and in the role of the Mouse King in the ballet The Nutcracker.[25] Shakur, accompanied by one of his friends, Dana "Mouse" Smith, as his beatbox, won many rap competitions and was considered to be the best rapper in his school.[29] He was remembered as one of the most popular kids in his school because of his sense of humor, superior rapping skills, and ability to mix with all crowds.[30]
Shakur developed a close friendship with Jada Pinkett (later Jada Pinkett Smith) that lasted until his death. In the documentary Tupac: Resurrection, Shakur says, "Jada is my heart. She will be my friend for my whole life." Pinkett Smith calls him "one of my best friends. He was like a brother. It was beyond friendship for us. The type of relationship we had, you only get that once in a lifetime." A poem written by Shakur titled "Jada" appears in his book, The Rose That Grew from Concrete, which also includes a poem dedicated to Pinkett Smith called "The Tears in Cupid's Eyes." During his time in art school, Shakur became affiliated with the Baltimore Young Communist League USA.[31][32] He began dating the daughter of the director of the local chapter of the Communist Party USA.[33]
In 1988, Shakur and his family moved to Marin City, California, a suburban community located 5 miles (8 km) north of San Francisco.[27] He attended Tamalpais High School in nearby Mill Valley.[34] Shakur contributed to the school's drama department by performing in several productions. In an English class, Shakur wrote a paper, "Conquering All Obstacles," in which he said: "our raps, not the sorry story raps everyone is so tired of. They are about what happens in the real world. Our goal is [to] have people relate to our raps, making it easier to see what really is happening out there. Even more important, what we may do to better our world."[35]He began attending the poetry classes of Leila Steinberg in 1989.[36] That same year, Steinberg organized a concert with a former group of Shakur's, "Strictly Dope"; the concert led to him being signed with Atron Gregory. He set him up as a roadie and backup dancer with the hip hop group Digital Underground in 1990.
DEATH OF THE “LEGEND” :
On the night of September 7, 1996, Shakur attended the Bruce Seldon vs. Mike Tyson boxing match with Suge Knight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. After leaving the match, one of Knight's associates spotted Orlando "Baby Lane" Anderson, an alleged Crips gang member from Compton, California, in the MGM Grand lobby. Earlier that year, Anderson and a group of Crips had robbed a member of Death Row's entourage in a Foot Locker store. Knight's associate told Shakur, who attacked Anderson. Shakur's entourage, as well as Knight and his followers, assisted in assaulting Anderson. The fight was captured on the hotel's video surveillance. After the brawl, Shakur went with Knight to Death Row–owned Club 662 (now known as restaurant/club Seven). Shakur rode in Knight's 1996 black BMW 750iL sedan as part of a larger convoy, which included many in Shakur's entourage.[145] At 11:00–11:05 p.m. (PDT), they were halted on Las Vegas Boulevard by Metro bicycle police for playing the car stereo too loudly and not having license plates, which were found in the trunk of Knight's car; the party was released a few minutes later without being ticketed.[146] At 11:10 p.m. (PDT), while they were stopped at a red light at the intersection of Flamingo Road and Koval Lane in front of the Maxim Hotel, a vehicle occupied by two women pulled up on their left side. Shakur, who was standing up through the sunroof, exchanged words with the women and invited them to Club 662.[146] At 11:15 p.m. (PDT), a white, four-door, late-model Cadillac with unknown occupants pulled up to the sedan's right side. Someone inside rolled down a window and rapidly fired gunshots at Shakur. He was hit four times, twice in the chest, once in the arm, and once in the thigh.[147] One of the bullets went into Shakur's right lung.[148] Knight was hit in the head by fragmentation. The bodyguard, Frank Alexander, stated that, when he was about to ride along with the rapper in Knight's car, Shakur asked him to drive the car of Shakur's fiancée, Kidada Jones, instead, in case they needed additional vehicles for the drive from Club 662 to the hotel. The bodyguard reported in his documentary, Before I Wake, that, shortly after the assault, one of the convoy's cars drove off after the assailant but that he never heard from the occupants.[149] After arriving at the scene, police and paramedics took Knight and a wounded Shakur to the University Medical Center of Southern Nevada. Chris Carroll, the first Las Vegas police officer to arrive on the scene, heard Shakur's last words, "fuck you". Carroll reports that he refused to say another word to him or another officer.[150] According to an interview with the music video director Gobi, while at the hospital, Shakur received news from a Death Row marketing employee that the shooters had called the record company and threatened Shakur.[151] Gobi informed the Las Vegas police but said that the police claimed to be understaffed.[151] No attackers came. At the hospital, Shakur was heavily sedated, was placed on life-support machines, and was ultimately put under a barbiturate-induced coma after repeatedly trying to get out of the bed.[14] While in the intensive-care unit, on the afternoon of September 13, 1996, Shakur died from internal bleeding; doctors attempted to revive him but could not stop the hemorrhaging.[14] His mother, Afeni, made the decision to tell the doctors to stop.[148] He was pronounced dead at 4:03 p.m. (PDT).[14] The official causes of death were noted as respiratory failure and cardiopulmonary arrest in connection with multiple gunshot wounds.[14] Shakur's body was cremated the next day. Some of his ashes were purportedly later mixed with marijuana and smoked by members of the Outlawz.[152] However, E.D.I. Mean claimed in an interview in 2014 that, despite his belief at the time that the ashes were those of Shakur, he later found that the ashes did not belong to Shakur, which has led some people to believe that Shakur didn't die at all.[153]

Champions Shine at Space City Open VIII
Woodward, Gomez, Aranas, Ng, and Martinez, III Earn Titles
Sky Woodward swept the Space City Open VIII, 128-player 9-ball division, taking down Roberto “Superman” Gomez in the final set, 9-2. The two-time Mosconi Cup MVP finished second in the one pocket and 5th-6th in the 9-ball banks, to become the newest, Space City Open “All-Around” Champion. Gomez took home his first title in the one pocket division, and although he took second in the 9-ball, he was unable to catch Woodward in the all-around points race. James “DD” Aranas showed off his skills in the 9-ball banks, holding all of his opponents to two or less games, and defeating Jalal Alsarisi in the final, 4-2. In the ladies 9-ball division, Ming “The Empress” Ng defended her title against Ellen Robinson, and Lazaro “Little Laz” Martinez, III, defeated brother, Gabriel Martinez, capturing his second, consecutive, junior 9-ball title.
The largest pool tournament in Texas, the annual Space City Open, has a reputation of hosting some of the greatest players in the world. This year was exceptional, with the return of Sky Woodward. The recently named, Mosconi Cup MVP, debuted at the 2012 Space City Open, winning the 9-ball banks division, and making his last appearance in 2014. Five years later, Woodward joined a star-studded line-up, including Roberto Gomez, James Aranas, Jalal Alsarisi, and Tommy Tokoph, along with defending 9-ball champion, James Davis, Jr., defending one pocket champion, Josh Roberts, and defending banks champion, Evan Lunda, to compete for a piece of the $56,770 payout, and $1,500 all-around bonus, sponsored by John Newsome and Johnny Gonzales of Eagle Plumbing.
The derby-like, Space City Open VIII, was held December 5th-8th, 2019, at Big Tyme Billiards in Spring, Texas, amassing 178 players, over five divisions, with four days of free live streaming provided by Southern Streaming. The 9-ball was played on twenty Diamond bar tables, and the one pocket and banks were played on six, nine foot tables. Cyclop “Zeus” ball sets and Accu-Racks by Outsville Billiards were provided for all divisions.
The open 9-ball division presented a more than stellar field. Tommy Tokoph, formerly of Albuquerque, New Mexico, now residing in Houston, took the field by storm. Making his way to the final eight on the winners’ side, Tokoph defeated James Aranas, 9-8, J.C.Torres, 9-5, Roberto Gomez, 9-4, and Aaron Springs, 9-5. Josh Roberts ousted Neil Saidawi, 9-0, Mike Hefren, Jon Demet, 9-4, and Marvin Diaz, 9-1. Jalal Alsarisi ran through Glenn Mitchell, 9-6, Sylver Ochoa, 9-0, Barry Strickland, 9-2, and Marc Garza, 9-6. Oklahoma’s Joey Gray overwhelmed Victor Rojas, 9-2, Roberto Aguilar, 9-1, Louis Vickio, 9-1, and Josh Hillard, 9-4. Also from Oklahoma, Billy Dyke defeated David Chow, 9-3, Bobby Perez, 9-8, Tony Scott, 9-5, and Troy Woodard, 9-5. Kevin Guimond bested Alexander Mojica, 9-1, Ellen Robinson, 9-0, Colton Berzins, 9-2, and Tony Top, 9-3. Sky Woodward claimed victories over Chris Baggett, 9-4, Evan Lunda, 9-6, Manny Chau, 9-1, and Ernesto Bayaua, 9-3, while James Davis, Jr. disappointed David Williams, 9-3, Andrew Rodriguez, 9-1, Joey Bourgeois, Jr., 9-4, and Joey Torres, 9-7. Settling the winners’ side, final four, Tokoph sent Roberts west, 9-7, while Alasarisi demolished Gray, 9-3. Dyke overcame Guimond, 9-6, and Woodward wasted little time with Davis, Jr., sending him west, 9-1. Reaching the final eight on the one-loss side, Jesus Atencio amassed eight wins, including victories over John Gabriel, 7-1, and Roberts, 7-0. Gomez ended Bayaua, 7-5, and Gray, 7-4, while Derek Fontenot booked seven matches, with wins over Manny Chau, 7-2, and Guimond, 7-3. After losing his first match to Charlie Bryant, 9-4, Alex Calderone closed out seven sets, with triumphs over Marc Garza and Davis, Jr., by the same score, 7-1. Back on the east side, Tokoph forged ahead, beating Alsarisi, 9-7, while Woodward throttled Dyke, 9-1. For the first time, crowds witnessed a hot seat match-up with the indomitable Sky Woodward, and one of Houston’s best, Tommy Tokoph. With three of his four previous matches yielding 9-1 scores, Woodward maintained his momentum, dealing Tokoph his first loss, 9-1. With four remaining on the west side, Gomez thwarted Atencio, and hindered Dyke, by the same score, 7-2. Calderone secured an eighth win over Fontenot, 7-6, but came up short against Alsarisi, 7-6. After losing his third round match to Tokoph, Gomez took out nine players on the one-loss side, including Alsarisi, 7-1, and finally, Tokoph, 7-1, to meet Woodward. Gomez faced off with the unrivaled youth, in a first-time, Space City Open match-up. Sky played flawlessly, stringing multiple racks, offering Gomez only two chances at the table. In the end, Woodward overwhelmed Gomez the first set, 9-2, to earn his first, Space City Open 9-ball title. It was down to Woodward, Gomez, and Alsarisi in the all-around. With this win, Sky sewed up the bonus, and became the first player in Space City Open history to win both 9-ball and 9-ball banks titles.
The one pocket division was single elimination, and kicked off Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., with a 32-player field. Sky Woodward took charge, with victories over John Braud, 4-0, Jalal Alsarisi, 4-2, and Ernesto Bayaua, 4-3. Local talent, Marvin Diaz, eliminated J.C. Torres, 4-1, James Aranas, 4-3, and Jacob Pennison, 4-1. Rounding out the final four, Roberto Gomez bested John Gabriel, 4-2, Joey Gray, 4-3, and Shane McMinn, 4-3, while Josh Roberts defeated Aaron Springs, 4-0, Tommy Tokoph, 4-2, and Chip Compton, 4-1. In the next round, Woodward out-maneuvered Diaz, 4-2, and Gomez passed Roberts, 4-2. Woodward and Gomez remained, and at the close of the event, by the narrowest of margins, Roberto Gomez was crowned the newest, Space City Open, one pocket champion.
The single elimination, 32-player, 9-ball banks division, began Thursday at 7:00 p.m., and concluded on Friday evening. Chip Compton defeated Alex Calderone, 4-3, Shane Harvey, 4-2, and Justin Espinosa, 4-0, while James Aranas made his way to the final four with victories over Shane McMinn, 4-1, Jesse Davida, 4-1, and Sky Woodward, 4-1. Sylver Ochoa took out Tommy Tokoph, Florida’s David Uwate, 4-1, and Ernesto Bayaua, 4-3, while Jalal Alsarisi ended Roberto Gomez, 4-3, John Gabriel, 4-3, and former all-around champion, Josh Roberts, 4-3. Final four action witnessed Compton fall to Aranas, 4-2, and Alsarisi shut out Ochoa, 4-0. In the final match, Aranas overcame Alsarisi, 4-2, earning his first, Space City Open, 9-ball banks title.
Thirty-two women players converged on the Space City Open to compete for over $5,000 in the ladies 9-ball division. WPBA player, Kelly Isaac, took the lead with wins over junior player, April Gonzales, 7-2, Natalie Rocha, 7-2, and Janeen Lee, 7-3. Ellen Robinson beat Michelle Yim, 7-5, Sandra Melo, 7-3, and Courtney Peters, 7-5, while Kelly Jones of Mobile, Alabama, sent Teresa Garland west, 7-2, along with Calaia Jackson, 7-2, and Melissa Smith, 7-2. Local favorite Ming Ng began her trek, dominating Ruth Paine, 7-4, Christie Castro, 7-4, and Aryana Lynch, 7-1. Final four winners’ side action witnessed Robinson defeat Isaac, 7-3, and Ng overtake Jones, 7-2. In the hot seat match, Robinson played impeccably, breaking and running three racks to defeat Ng, 7-2. On the one-loss side, Lee eliminated Kim Pierce, 5-1, and Jones, 5-0, while Lynch took out Smith, 5-1, falling in turn to Isaac, 5-3. Lee crept past Isaac, 5-4, but faltered to Ng, 5-2. The finals rematch between Robinson and Ng was a long and fierce battle, with Ng securing the first set, 7-4. In overtime, tied with four games each, an unforced error by Robinson gave Ng the edge she needed to close out the set, 5-4, and earn her second, consecutive, Space City Open ladies 9-ball division title.
In the junior 9-ball division, twelve teens, seventeen and under, came together to compete for cash, and a coveted Space City Open plaque. John Benavides charged, with wins over Gabriel Garcia, 7-0, and Malachi Walker, 7-3, while April Gonzales subdued Cesar Garcia, 7-6, and brother, Jacob Gonzales, 7-4. Tyler Miller edged out Larissa Almendarez, 7-6, but fell to Lazaro “Little Laz” Martinez, III, 7-3. Kyle Yi bested Owen Chapple, 7-3, but was denied by Gabriel Martinez, 7-5. Benavides slid past A. Gonzales, 7-6, and Martinez, III out-moved G. Martinez, 7-2. With his meticulous play, defending champion, Martinez, III, shut out Benavides for the hot seat, 7-0. On the one-loss side, Yi was on a roll, eliminating Miller, 5-3, and A. Gonzales, 5-2. J. Gonzales beat Walker, 5-4, but lost to G. Martinez, 5-2. Down to the final four, G. Martinez terminated Yi, 5-3, and Benavides, 5-3, for a shot at his first, Space City Open title. The junior 9-ball final was a repeat of last year’s showdown, with “Little Laz”, and brother, Gabriel, battling it out for the championship. In the final, Lazaro proved too much for Gabriel, defeating him 7-0, defending his Space City Open, junior 9-ball title.

The Glass Heard Around The World:Stonewall,Revolution, Truth & Legend
Past Caring takes a look through a personal and historical lens at the legacy of Stonewall, the figures who played a part in it and the following mobilization and activism and what the truth of the event and the shaping of its historical and legendary status conveys about the good and bad aspects of the lgbt community and rights movement. Historically accurate terms are used where they have been mentioned in sources and recollections. (A piece I did for Pride earlier this summer)

The Stonewall Inn,Taken by Diana Davies in September 1969,New York Public Library.
The World before Stonewall.
As two-hundred and five odd people readied themselves for a Saturday night out at the Mafia-run Stonewall they lived in a world that hated them. Clyde Hoey had argued in 1950 that gay people were “security risks” and thus thousands of public sector applications were denied and contracts discharged. Loitering in toilets was a blacklisting offense with arrestees often listed in newspapers and homosexuals were barred from having professional licenses. The Post office would keep lists of addresses pertaining to those who engaged in a homosexual life and the FBI kept track of names too. Confinement to abusive mental institutions was common with California’s Astascadero Hospital described as “Dachua for queens” , and even castration was a possibility as during the period psychiatric views were influenced by the prejudice that saw the 1952 DSM declare homosexuality a mental illnesses. Prison was another avenue that could await. Come the 1960s only Illinois did not overtly ban homosexuality and New York’s Penal code caused terror and anxiety for those dressing outwith the gendered clothing expectations of the heterosexual establishment at the time with those like Sylvia Rivera, Marsha P Johnson , Delaverie and others expected to wear three pieces or more of clothing ‘appropriate’ to their gender. If not arrest was forthcoming. The Stonewall bar was breaking the law that day ,but it had to do so to exist. The early sixties saw New York impacted by Mayor Robert F. Wagner Jr’s order to revoke the liquor licenses of homosexual bars and entrap as many people as possible in the lead up to the 1964 world’s fair there. Stonewall was one instance of bars being run by the mob in this climate enabling the gay bars to exist ,but with all the problems gang connections caused. Its owners were the Genovese crime family who had turned it into a gay bar in 1966 and handed over lump sums as payoffs to cops to keep things going as it had no liquor license. The bar was badly run with no running water, glasses were cleaned in a dirty bathtub of still water which gave some people hepatitis, there was no fire exits and the toilets overran constantly. Nowhere else was same-sex dancing allowed however so for the lgbt people who descended on it , for all its terrible flaws, it had elements of freedom they could not find in other bars or in their daily lives.
"Street Kids" including Jackie Hormona fighting with the NYPD,New York Daily News,(28th of June,1969)
At the time there was conflict between the more radical side of gay society, often those with the least to lose and the most oppression bearing down on them such as the not exclusive street kids, transgender people called drag queens or transvestites and sex workers and those who joined groups like the Mattachine society which was one of many groups to use the term “homophile” over gay thinking the former less sexual and thus more acceptable for heteronormative society. The decade leading up to the event was also influential due to things like the Civil Rights movement and Feminism which influenced terms like gay power(after black power) as slogans and the creation of the first gay university organization in the Student Homophile league at New York Columbia University from 1967. It was not even the first gay revolt against oppression by groups like the police. In 1959 the drag queens and sex workers who meet at Cooper’s Donuts despite the LAPD’s harassment fought back resulting in three arrests of those like John Rechy and the police’s baptism with donuts and coffee cups. In 1966 two other events occurred The Black Cat Tavern Riot in Los Angeles and the Compton’s Cafteria Riot in San francisco’s Tenderloin district. Susan Stryker has called the Compton raid the first known incident of collective militant queer resistance to the police in the USA. Following it the people who took part still faced multiple struggles but the community of San Francisco remembered it and would slowly learn from it.Friday Night at the Stonewall Inn….You are getting ready for your night out and find your way down to the Inn in your nightlife splendor. A bouncer looks through the peephole at you…If you are known by the doorman or look gay you get in easy otherwise it will be difficult to impossible as they needed to keep out undercover lily laws, alice blue gowns and betty badges. You give over three dollars and get two tickets to be swapped for two drinks to start your night off well. Signing your name in a book to prove it was a legitimate ‘bottle club’ you will often use a fake one with the aforementioned Judy garland a common choice. There is a jukebox and interior is black and pulsing and black lights are above,if the white ones come on then it’s a raid you will find out. The bar is mostly frequented by gay or bi cis men with some lesbians coming too. The trans women who were known as tranvestites usually and those who were known as queens or drag queens coverse and meet in the space in the smaller room and converse with friends. It was one of two bars where effeminate men ,wearing make up, who dressed in male clothing could go ,but despite the importance of transgender women in the events to come those in ‘full drag’ were seldom let inside as Sylvia Rivera noted later to Eric Marcus. Younger homeless adolescents try to get in so customers can buy them drinks and thus its as active outside as inside. The bar includes those of all races, ages, sexualities and genders unlike many of the other establishments…It is as Vito Russo said a place where the rich ,often blackmailed by the mob, white gay bankers and brokers of wall street mingled with those “too young, too poor or just too much to get in anywhere else”.As you mingle and dance Miss Major Griffin-Gracy meets a girlfriend and chats behind you, Maria Ritter, putting Steve behind her, arrives in a car at 10pm with her makeup artist friend Kiki in her mother’s empire waisted cocktail dress excited to celebrate her 18th birthday with her real id being shown to the bouncer instead of the laughable fake ones she had used before. The 17 year old Sylvia Rivera is there with her first lover at the bar for the first time in a bell bottoms suit with beautiful makeup and hair.Marsha ‘Pay it no mind’ Johnson is there with Zazu Nova..Is she carrying the large chain she often did for defence in her purse tonight? You see the dashing male impersonator Storme Delavernie and the faces of visitors like Raymond Castro and Martin Boyce who is in drag tonight as Miss Martin. Danny Garvin, once in the navy now lives like a hippy in an all-gay commune on Bleecker street in Greenwich and arrives. Two policewomen and two policemen have got by the bouncer and mingle undercover near you as they await a raid being planned by Seymour on behalf of the NYPD Public Moral Division in Greenwich Village. Stonewall had been raided recently before that day as well with minimum fuss. The recorded reason for the raid was the lack of a drinking license and bootlegging ,but as historian David Carter has noted, the mafia owner’s and manager’s blackmailing of their wealthier costumers made extortion more profitable than the liquor sales and due to lapsed bribery payments from this and thefts of negotiable bonds the police had other reasons to undertake the raid. Often when the fees were paid to the cops any raids that did have to happen were acts of theatre played out by the bar and policemen. That night no tip off had occurred like usual and as Duberman has recorded, a rumour some heard seemed false as it was said to be for much later than raids usually happened...
The Main Event.
At 1.20 am it finally comes. Four plainclothes policemen, two patrol officers and detectives Charles symthe and deputy inspector Seymour pine arrive at the doors announcing “POLICE!WE’RE TAKING THE PLACE!” Back up is called and the blinding white lights come up above you. People stop dancing and let go of each other quickly. Some veterans of this ritual run off ,but police bar the doors and thus it begins here. It starts. The cops gathered up 28 cases of beer and 19 liquor bottles while starting to check the documentation of the 205 odd patrons there. Morty Manfold discusses in Marcus’s work that to be arrested were “the transvestites”, “the underage” and “the undocumented without identification”. Pine would later note that he had not expected to need to arrest so many transvestites so duly he called for more police vans. Maria Ritter stood in her mother’s dress terrified about her possible arrest ,but also that she would be pictured in the clothing she felt more comfortable in a newspaper or television report which her mother would see. She knew what “happened to queers in jail” and it scared her. While some were freed after 15 minutes the other wagons began to arrive. Around this time Marty Robin and Morty Manford say that Marsha P Johnson threw a shot glass at a mirror and said “I got my human rights”. Although Carter’s work notes how often these accounts of her taking action first came almost always from secondary or third hand sources he ends by arguing whether she was first to take action or not she was almost certainly ONE of the first. Jackie Hormona ,the bleach blond kid in the most famous stonewall image, is equally a possible person to have first acted. Jerry Hoose arriving at the scene later due to his friend John Goodman’s phone call was told that “Hormona had kicked a cop, maybe,or punched a cop” and thus everything got going. As Carter argues no single person can be deemed the only agent to act and thus cause events all by themselves…A large group in unison came to the conclusion that fighting back was necessary.Marie Ritter notes how those who were to be taken in were kept together within Stonewall’s coat closet ,something that she notes was extremely ironic. During the searches of people Micheal Fader notes that some lesbians were touched up during their frisk rousing more tension and anger. Those released did not fade into the night and privacy like usual to escape..Most stayed and the crowd outside grew. Joel S ,one of the first related how the crowds outside gathered and milled around. Nearby as the crowd grew the Village Voice employee Howard Smith saw it in the offices with his bincholars and went down meeting the writer for the paper Lucian Truscott. The couple, Danny Garvin and Keith Murdoch were discussing the black panthers leading the revolution to come soon when they saw the crowd as well and joined it.The journalists mentioned would portray it homophobically discussing limp wrists ,but as those not to be arrested were freed and joined friends outside they are described as playing to the crowd some bowing and one person saying hello fella to the detective at the door. Some people were handled roughly Smith noticed as they left. The first police wagon was loaded with the mafia members to cheers by the crowd then regular employees to cries of “gay power” and the singing of we shall overcome. A second arrived with the doorman and bartender and three transvestites and drag queens from inside were put in and took away to boos. Then a lesbian in masculine clothing was took out roughly in handcuffs. Some people state that other butch women were arrested at this point as well. This “typical New York butch” was hit on the head with a baton for, as one witness said, complaining of her handcuff’s tightness. Storme’ Delarverie, a male impersonator, has been identified by different people as the woman, including by herself. In a 2008 interview for Curve magazine Storme’ told Patrick Hinds that it was her and that she was told to “move along, faggot” to which she refused thus being clubbed in the face. A butch woman, perhaps this same woman, Storme or otherwise, was then put into a car with the door unlocked and numerous times got out the other unlocked door to cheers. After around ten minutes they were apprehended and took off. Whither it was the same woman or different women the action of a lesbian arrestee being hurt at this point and a cry by the same woman saying “why don’t you guys do something?’ prompted the crowd to surge forward and start throwing things. Rumours spread of the supposed unpaid bribe so people started throwing coins shouting faggot cops, pigs and lets pay them off. A nearby building site provided bricks for throwing too. Roy McCarthy arrived as the fireworks kicked off and noted high heels flying. Different drag queens and transvestites were noted to have hit policemen with their heels and handbags. This led to prejudiced figures like the New York Daily News Jerry Lisker joking about how the transgender women and crossdressers involved were “exhibiting Queen Power” and throwing “femme fatale missiles”. While others like Raymond Castro were put into wagons to cries of “let him go” they thought back with Raymond resisting and knocking cops to the ground. He would later get a laywer to represent himself in relation to the crimes he was charged with ,but in addition paid for a lesbian woman’s fees who had been in the same wagon.Someone else threw a drink at a cop leaving him bleeding and thus he got partners to aid him in beating the supposed culprit until he was dazed. Marsha ,Heide suggests, became a force to be reckoned with, throwing rocks and screaming, like “Molly Pitcher in the revolution” he said.
As people’s fury was unleashed in so many ways Pine ordered the police there to flee into the inn away from the hundreds of people there. As Morty Manford notes once they were inside the second floor window was smashed by someone leading to people saying ooh ,a cop with a gun threatened people with it through the door and a fire was started. Edmund White and Fader also discussed how “some adorable butch hustler boys” pulled up a parking meter using it as a battering ram. Roy McCarthy jumped on a cop in the chaos and was beating him before it turned around and he was left seeing starts until four transgender women saved him and patched him up in a basement. After around 45 minutes the TPF(Tactical Police Force) arrived in riot gear. Vito Russo and others mention how the TPF were tainted from behind by transvestite women and crossdressers in a rocket style kick line singing “we are the stonewall girls,we wear our hair in curls,we wear no underwear,we show our pubic hair!”.Bob Kohler saw the clash with the TPF while walking his dog and said it was a sign “the fun was over” as the “cops were totally humiliated” because “fairies were not supposed to riot” and this resistance made them want to kill. The fear they expressed is noticeable in Pine’s statement that it was the most terrifying night of his life despite the fact he was a veteran who had fought at the Battle of the Bulge. The kickline of people was attacked with nightsticks leaving one of the crowd to say “I felt rage” as people were being hurt “for what?a kick line.”
By 4am the TPF cleared the street ,but Saturday 28th of June was a new day. People had woke from a sleeping spell to a new reality. Thirteen people were arrested, some hospitalized and four officers injured ,but as one person noted “there was a certain beauty in the aftermath of the riot” as people recognized “this was our street”. That is the thing about Stonewall…It was not the first case of revolt against oppressive authorities by lgbt people…It was not the first of many things. However it was the birth of a consciousness and reflectiveness in regards to lgbt history and events. Before and After Stonewall. BS and AS.

The Continued Revolt and Aftermath
While papers like the New York Times, New York Post and Daily News focused on events with the latter placing coverage on the front page , rumours spread through Greenwich that different revolutionary groups like the Black Panthers had caused it. People started expressing their affection in public with one witness describing “we were just out”. A fog stifling the reality of people’s lives and loves felt lifted. If you had went you would have seen graffiti brightening the walls declaring “drag power”, “they invaded our rights”, “support gay power” , “legalize gay bars” and the defiant statement after the raid: “we are open”. That morning Craig Rodwell and his partner Fred Sargeant printed and distrubted 5000 leaflets one saying: "Get the Mafia and the Cops out of Gay Bars." And others saying gay people needed their own establishments, that stonewall should be boycotted and that the Mayor had to investigate the "intolerable situation". Saturday night saw things continue with hustlers, street youths and queens being joined by police provocateurs , bystanders and even tourists. While fires were set off again a hundred policemen watched and arrested who they could. The road was blocked and only those sympathetic to the cause or gay themselves could pass, Sylvia Rivera watched as a friend pounced on a car trying to get through and Marsha broke a police windshield with a heavy object leading to a poor bystander to be targeted and beat by the police who didn’t see her do it. Those like Vito Russo joined as a crowd again until the TPF arrived at 2am on the 29th . It ended again at 4am. Monday the 30th and Tuesday the 31st saw not much action due to bad rain. On Wednesday Black Panthers and Yippies joined to create a thousand strong crowd standing in solidarity. The Village voice article by Howard Smith and Lucian Truscott was published that day with homophobic language and slurs a plenty stoaking anger and leading to more clashes. The police ever angrier left young people, many who were queens, lying bleeding on the street ,but people still stated “the word is out. Christopher Street shall be liberated”. The bar itself went up for rent soon after ,but the street, all streets would be liberated. The inn had birthed a new movement and could fade away:its job done.

Elsewhere The Mattachine’s annual picketing at Independence Hall,Philadelphia on the 4th of July the air was electric. Organiser Craig Rodwell who felt things had to change convinced people to exhibit affection publicly at it. The press attention was more than any other march by them. Rodwell returned to New York with plans for Christopher Street Liberation Day in mind. At the same time an ad hoc meeting of Mattachine New York to organize a march turned into an organization the Gay Liberation Front. The group told a underground work The Rat “we are a revolutionary homosexual group” and that they believed sexual liberation was tied to abolishing existing social institutions. Solidarity was emphasized with them saying “We identify ourselves with all the oppressed: the Vietnamese struggle, the third world, the blacks, the workers…all those oppressed by this rotten, dirty, vile, fucked-up capitalist conspiracy”. A paper called the Gay was started within six months due to the Village Voice’s refusal to print the word Gay in GLF ads within it. The GLF became increasingly tied to big theories and discussion regarding all oppression over community action for gay people in the eyes of those like Bob Kohler. A friend and ally of Sylvia Rivera ,who had been at Stonewall, he was attempting to get clothes and money through it to help the homeless youths so instrumental to the revolt. He was met by a discussion on capitalism’s downfall instead. December 1969 saw the creation of the GAA(Gay Activists Alliance) in response who were concerned with liberating homosexuals and focused only on this fight for rights and resources. Both groups however would come together for protests against other raids and for the Stonewall march that began the following year. Some of their victories during this time was having homosexuality removed from psychiatric handbooks as a mental illness in 1973 with the American Psychiatric Association gaining a caucus of lesbian and gay psychiatrists in 1978.
Pride and Today
youtube
The 28th of June 1970 saw Pride as we know it born with the first annual Christopher Street Liberation march in New York, Los Angeles and Chicago. From these earliest days however when the victories of the revolt were so close to hand the massaging of history to fit different perspectives was already beginning. One reader wrote to the Advocate in 1970 saying the parade had done more harm than good as “silly freaks” “those queens” were lowering the movement’s image in his eyes prompting him to sniff “where were the normal looking” gay men from colleges and so forth? Dick Griff in a letter replying stated “It was the drag queens who fought back last year! Not we closet queens!”. Just over a year after Stonewall the outsiders of the lgbt community who had been so instrumental were already having their agency and momentous actions ignored. Their presence was unwanted. Those like the Gay Activist Alliance and Lesbian Feminist Liberation ,like the Mattachine before them , following the revolt began to champion assimilation so that laws like the proposed Anti-Discrimination Bill Intro 475 would view them as worth protecting. Those who stuck out and were different be it due to their class, race, gender identity, homeless status and more brought down the rest of the community. In response the GLF asserted their commitment to LGBT people of all backgrounds including transgender people attracting many trans activists ,but the climate was against them. Stonewall’s homeless Street Kids ,and transgender women ,grouped under terms like drag queens or transvestites at the time, became liabilities while on the day of Stonewall they had been indispensable. Marsha told Bob Kohler in an interview how upon attending GAA meetings they would notice everyone looking at her and Sylvia because “they’re not used to seeing transvestites in female attire”. Transgender people were therefore kicked off the anti-discrimination bill in hopes it would pass. Another example of this alienation that groups, especially transgender people faced as the gay rights movement grew, is that of a 1973 New York Liberation rally where Sylvia Rivera jump on stage with Lee Brewster following a speech by the early TERF Jean O’Leary in which Sylvia cried “You go to bars because of what drag queens did for you,and these bitches tell us to quit ourselves” before she asked them “how dare you???”. Whither because of transphobic prejudiced views concerning trans people,Second Wave Feminism being famous for this, or the need to exclude them and all other people who did not fit a white, cis, often middle class standard, to latch onto any aspect of acceptance by straight society that they could due to privileged, groups like trans women were coldly excluded from the fight. In answer those who were not accepted fought their own fights when others would not return their support. For instance Marsha and Sylvia formed Street Transvestite(eventually transgender from 2000) Action Revolutionaries (STAR) in 1970 which provided safety and help for transgender people in a myriad of terrible situations such as living on the street or in prison. Marsha who was HIV Postive would later support and march for many AIDS causes. Miss Major Griffin-Gracy also started providing for her community with an early service run by her from 1978 in San Diego providing help for trans women in prison, addicted to drugs or homeless. She has now worked tirelessly into her 70s for many groups.
Aids would rock the LGBT community to its very core and would take the lives of people who had been at Stonewall. It both brought people together as they had to care for each other when no one else would. This is something my own mother as a charity worker saw in 1993 while helping a man care for his partner who was dying and trying to convince doctors to treat him. At the same time however the dangers of the crisis made some feel all the more that gay identity had to be portrayed in a rigid way to ensure people were accepted. It has been 48 years now since the revolt. Its victories stand alongside its failings…Mobilizing requiring a homogeneous group in some people’s views....The events of the night being shaped to fit the ideology of the gay rights movement in the 1970s onwards. While works like Pay it no Mind ,about Marsha, give us stories of figures on the night that need heard , other things like the film Stonewall have took to the views that exclusionary groups have presented.
Today the fights for all lgbt people, not just a specific group, to have the rights, safety and support in their lives they need still goes on. We need to read the true tales from stonewall in order to get past the conflict we have dealt with in past decades….We need to remember the lives behind it …Mourning those veterans of it like Marsha and Sylvia who died young as well as caring for our elders like Miss Major and Storme Lavernie(who sadly passed away in inadequate care practically forgotten). Yes pride is for celebrating ,but we need to all come together in unison against the institutions around the world which impact LGBT people negatively instead of mistreating each other or assuming the fight is over. The truth of Stonewall is beauty and the beauty of the people involved acting as one on that night is truth. We need to speak Stonewall’s truths every moment so it lives on forever…Not give way to the type of hate it was sparked by.

In addition, you'll probably find us handy if you ever want to withhold private contact details when completing test surveys and registration forms. Our data is provided to us by Tallahassee industry regulators, communications providers, and local authorities. Fake phone numbers randomly generated by Fake Number are unallocated numbers that telephony companies cannot assign to Tallahassee customers under current legislation. This is to protect residents against the potential influx of phone calls that they may receive should their telephone numbers appear in a movie or film. Were you to make up a random Tallahassee phone number yourself, there is a high chance of your number ending up being valid. However, with Fake Number's free and ethical service, you can have full confidence that all generated Tallahassee telephone numbers are indeed 100% non-working. If you're still not convinced about how we can help, you should read up on the makers of 2003 film 'Bruce Almighty' using 776-2323 as a number to call God, which resulted in nuisance calls across many areas. Please note that the use of any fake telephone numbers generated by Fake Number does not imply that the resulting Tallahassee number has been allocated. It should also be remembered that whilst these random phone numbers will not be assigned for use by telephony companies in the foreseeable future, there is no guarantee that this situation will remain unchanged forever. Ultimately, ensuring that there is sufficient numbering capacity available to meet future requirements for 'real' Tallahassee telephony purposes is likely to be of greater priority.Generate Number By Promotional Gifts - Value Added Service
The benefits offered by promotional products have been tasted by one and all. Almost every one in business has felt the effect of promotional products. We all know the value that promotional Gifts can offer to any organisation. But ever thought of providing value to your customers with promotional Gifts?
You can offer value to your customers by giving promotional Gifts as free giveaways. A gift is well received by everyone. Everyone likes to receive a gift and especially when they are at events like trade shows they expect something to be given. The concept of getting something for nothing excites everyone. Gifting your customers something like a key chain or a pen will not only serve as a token of gratitude but also bring a smile on your client's face at the same time.
Another way of giving your customers value through promotional Gifts is offering them a free gift with a certain purchase from the company. This is also a great marketing strategy as people at tomes make their purchase because of the free gift. You can give your customers a product that is high end like a t-shirt or something similar to their purchase. It could be a "buy one get one" free offer as well.
Promotional gifts that are given with a purchase serve several purposes. They can help you entice new customers altogether and most importantly they say thank you to the customers for their purchase. And the promotional product that you give will also work as a constant reminder of your organisation and entice prospective customers.
The best option for giving your customers value through promotional Gifts is giving them free gifts during holidays. Say for example winter holidays, when the festive bells are already ringing. Receiving a gift in this season will be well cherished by everyone. This is the best time for business organisations to be in the good books of their customers and clients. You can choose a gift basket or a bag full of goodies that carries your information along with it. Such a gift will definitely create the right impact and keep you in the minds of the consumer for a long time to come.
Promotional gifts are simple and inexpensive ways of keeping your customers happy. If you want to offer your customers value with these promotional Gifts then simply log onto the internet and search for promotional gifts.

Best Tips to Align SEO With a Web Design Project
Determine the origin of traffic.
Driving valuable traffic to a website is not that simple and does not happen by itself. It is crucial for business owners to know the keywords and theme that are relevant to their products and/or services as well as the most popular search terms.
Keyword research lets them understand where traffic could possibly come from and therefore, help them create a strategy that is most likely to succeed.
Use this research to arrange web content.
They should consider the highlighted keywords and themes in their search in planning the design of their website and use these as a guide in choosing the pages that will be presented on the domain.
The site's navigation, accessibility, page hierarchy and folder structure can be enhanced to be successful in ranking high in search engines. Following these steps when building a website will attempt to increase chances of opportunity.
In addition, user experience teams can make use of search insights in constructing smooth UX experiences throughout the site. In the last few years, SEOs have observed that organic visibility has increasingly been linked to healthy user experience signals.
Perform pre-launch obstacle analysis.
When developing a new website, it is crucial to take repetitive SEO technical analysis into consideration.
Search engine indexing will be based on the web code and scripts that are free of obstacles. Though websites may look clear from the point of view of users depending on the way they are coded, it may be hard to crawl from a search engine's perspective, which may result to a unfavourable performance in the organic SERPs.
When carrying out pre-launch analysis of obstacles, SEOs are able to cooperate with development teams before the launch of a website, to make sure that problems are corrected in a staging environment. This means that new websites have everything they need to perform efficiently when launched and this also avoids costly repairs later on.
Reduce risks while there is still time.
When a website is re-launched instead of building it from scratch, it is important to follow the right steps to maintain historic SEO visibility prior to pushing the button to "go live". In the long run, search engines develop an element of history and trust with a website's old pages.
In case these trusted pages are renamed or changed in the process of redesigning the site, search engines may find it difficult to understand these changes and figure out the correlation of the new pages with the previous pages. Usually, this will bring about a decrease in organic traffic and visibility, affecting the site's performance and in certain instances, the business revenue.
When the SEO team is involved in the build and redesign process, they will consider this earlier in the process and make sure to take the required steps including 301-redirect mapping, submitting new XML sitemaps plus notifications in Google Search Console done completely to avoid the risks involved.

Netflix Acquires Chiwetel Ejiofor’s ‘the Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’
Netflix has acquired global rights (excluding Japan, China and UK free TV rights) to The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind, the directorial debut of Academy Award® nominee and BAFTA Award winner Chiwetel Ejiofor. The British film is based on the bestselling book of the same name written by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. Ejiofor wrote the screenplay. Netflix, Participant Media, BBC Films and BFI present, in association with Head Gear Films & Metrol Technology, Lipsync and Cornerstone Films, a Potboiler Production. Synopsis: Adapted from the bestselling book by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind follows 13-year-old William Kamkwamba (newcomer Maxwell Simba) who is thrown out of the school he loves when his family can no longer afford the fees. Sneaking back into the school library, he finds a way, using the bones of the bicycle belonging to his father Trywell (Chiwetel Ejiofor), to build a windmill which then saves his Malawian village from famine. The emotional journey of a father and his exceptional son at its heart, William’s tale captures the incredible determination of a boy whose inquisitive mind overcame every obstacle in his path. The film highlights the power of education and individual determination to change the trajectory of a life, a village and a nation. By telling the story of one boy’s efforts to overcome the barriers he faces to education, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind inspires audiences to imagine a future where every child, in every village, has access to knowledge and to opportunities to put that knowledge to work. Screenwriter: Adapted by Chiwetel Ejiofor, from the book “The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” written by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer Producers: Potboiler Productions’ Andrea Calderwood and Gail Egan Executive Producers: Joe Oppenheimer, Rose Garnett, Natascha Wharton, Jeff Skoll, Jonathan King, Phil Hunt, Compton Ross, Peter Hampden, Norman Merry Cast: Maxwell Simba, Academy Award Nominee Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave), Aïssa Maïga (Anything for Alice), Lily Banda, Lemogang Tsipa (Eye in the Sky), Philbert Falakeza, with Joseph Marcell (“The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”) and Noma Dumezweni (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) Ejiofor commented: “William’s story represents, what has to be, the future in countries like Malawi: developing countries, overflowing with beauty and harboring enormous potential. A global story, such as this, requires a global platform and I’m thrilled to be working with Netflix on bringing William’s extraordinary tale of determination and inventiveness to audiences worldwide.” Jonathan King, President of Film and Television for Participant Media, added: “Chiwetel brings incredible passion and skill as a filmmaker to this moving and impactful story about a young boy who uses his heart and mind equally to help better his community. We need this kind of story now more than ever, and we’re excited to continue the partnership with Netflix that started with Beasts of No Nation and continued with ROMA to bring this new film to audiences around the world.” The film was shot in Malawi last year. The film will launch in 2019 on Netflix and in select theaters in the US and UK The British film has been backed in development and production by the BFI (with National Lottery funding) and BBC Films with Head Gear, Metrol Technology and LipSync, in partnership with Participant Media.
