Me thinking about Garak as a character and his traits and qualities: I think we can all agree that his journey is fundamentally compelling, but is he redeemable? Clearly from his actions in Our Man Bashir and Broken Link he hasn't changed that much and while I do stan him we should be smart about how we engage with his past fascist support and the Occupation

Me, thinking about Garak after watching Dukat do anything:

#everytime I'm like oh dear god thank god we're back to Garak #the fun and sexy war criminal #thank god #sorry I complained #the fundamental difference between the two #besides one being a rapist who tore women away from their families and homes to be his comfort women and the other not being that #is Garak is simply not annoying #1) Garak is at least aware he's a war criminal and he doesn't need to make himself the hero of every story #2) he doesn't make apologies and promises for behavior he's just gonna do again #he never is like I Have Made Life Changes and Don't Do This Shit Anymore #because even when he goes for long stretches without war crimes he's aware that he'll do more if that's what he believes is necessary #3) also he doesn't feel the need to make his guilt and self-loathing everyone else's problem which I think is sexy of him #in the Wire he even tries to withdraw himself and Julian only gets the outburst of misery bc he inserts himself #Garak just lets his past trangressions stand as they are and makes no apology bc he knows there are none to be made #he asks julian for forgiveness... not major kira #homeboy just isn't a hypocrite and he is not entitled #how sexy #garak #star trek #ds9
