no ok now that i've thought of it i can't not post it. literally as i was posting that my brain was like 'wasn't there a whole issue about when peter was born with his parents chilling with wolverine or smth' and then i couldn't let it go so hhhhhhhh ok
untold talks of spider-man issue -1 from 1997 jesus fucking christ
mary and richard parker are on super secret spy assignment to track down a aristocrat neo-nazi bankroller in mumbai and they happen to be there during ganesh jayanti which depending on the year can take place as early as 17 jan and as late as 16 feb
and at the end of the issue after she outsmarts, outshoots, and jabs a nazi goon in the face, mary passes out, richard carries her out of a burning hide-out aided by wolverine (HI???) and then receives word from a doctor that she fainted bc she's about a month pregnant
so idk do with that what you will
my toxic trait is that I refuse to acknowledge anything but october 14th as peter parker's birthday
#i'm giving up bc pregnancy time frames are calculated so fucked up#but i think it works out that if it's a mid feb ganesh jayanti oct 14 still fits with everything? but my god i'm truly giving up#bc you know that it only fits by complete fucking chance i know they never actually did any of this math I KNOW IT#i wish i could forget trivial details about media and instead remember like....idk events in my life? fuck me jfc#half-assed descriptions in alt text#as in i only described the relevant panel in the last screenshot#proportionate thoughts of a spider

hellos!! is there any frame in triage where shidou Does have the same patterned scarf-thing(?) his sons and wife wear? actually do you know what those mean? (<- i only now noticed them skldjlsd)
hello anon! hola!
to answer your question,, well,, no. not really. but also- well, kind of?
the pattern youre thinking of is called paisley. it has a lot of symbolic meaning that i will get to in this post, but.. shidou doesnt really wear it. kind of
i went through triage again and want to point a few things out:
shidous family wears paisley in 3 different places
his wife, around her waist. shidou mimics this with his apron
his youngest, around his neck. shidou mimics this with his jacket(? why are you wearing it like that idiot)
his eldest, around his waist. shidou mimics this almost exactly- except his cloth belt is light blue, not grey, and plain- no paisley
there is, however- one very brief scene where it could be debated that shidou's belt has a paisley pattern. it moves very quickly- and is heavily obscured by light
the pattern is incredibly faint- but look closely. you can see the paisley. this is the only scene that shidou is shown wearing paisley even remotely explicitly.
(and, before i get into the symbolism of paisley- i find it's important to note that triage has a floral-pattern overlay over the entire video. it is subtle, and you can see it better on a higher-resolution screen. but it is there, and it distorts the video slightly, yet entirely)
but, well. why is paisley so important anyway?
paisley, or Boteh-Jegheh (بته جقه), is a design that has been used for centuries, it originates from Iran (considered "Persian")
"So what is behind paisley’s incredible longevity? Its symbolic power has probably played a part. The original Persian droplet-like motif – the boteh or buta – is thought to have been a representation of a floral spray combined with a cypress tree, a Zoroastrian symbol of life and eternity. The seed-like shape is also thought to represent fertility, has connections with Hinduism, and also bears an intriguing resemblance to the famous yin-yang symbol. It is still a hugely popular motif in Iran and South and Central Asian countries and is woven using silver and gold threads on to silks and fine wools for weddings and other celebrations." (source)
"in paisley people have seen resemblances to a lotus, a mango, a leech, a yin and yang, a dragon, and a cypress pine. Ancient Babylonians likened it to an uncurling date palm shoot. Providing them with food, wine, wood, paper, hatch, and string—all of life’s necessities—date palms symbolized prosperity and plenty. Paisley began its life as the privilege of cosseted, powerful men." (source)
"The circle of paisley’s irony is now complete. A pattern of exclusive royal privilege in the East becomes the pattern of Western capitalist longing. It trickles down on humbler fabrics to working men, gay men, gang members, and Boy Scouts. It signifies free love and forbidden love, belonging and exclusion—a seemingly impossible range of human experience." (source, same as above)
(source)
"In Ancient Egypt, for instance, paisley designs were often used on wall paintings and pottery vessels as symbols of life and rebirth; while in Persian culture they represented heavenly gardens filled with lush vegetation and flowing watercourses – a metaphor for paradise itself. Similarly, this pattern became an integral part of Hindu iconography; being used to depict gods such as Shiva or Ganesh." (source)
"The iconic design consists of intricate swirls and floral motifs which are believed to represent life’s cycle of birth, death and rebirth. It also represents fertility and abundance – qualities that were greatly valued by our ancestors who lived off the land they farmed. In many parts of Asia it was even thought that the paisley patterns had magical properties that could ward off evil spirits." (source, same as above)
"Additionally, the paisley flower is believed to represent the cycle of life, death, and rebirth in many cultures. The intricate design of the paisley pattern is said to symbolize the twists and turns of life’s journey, with each curve representing a different phase of life. The paisley flower is also associated with the concept of inner peace and tranquility, making it a popular choice for meditation and spiritual practices. Overall, the paisley flower holds deep spiritual significance and is a beautiful symbol of life’s journey and the eternal nature of the soul." (source, i recommend reading this page in full- foliagefriend is a site i use often as a resource, and their articles are in-depth and pleasant to read.)

Why did Veda Vyasa select Sri Ganesh as the writer of the Mahabharata?
It is believed that when Sage Vyasa conceived the Mahabharata, he knew that it was too good a story to be written by an ordinary scribe. He searched near and far for someone who could write the Mahabharata for him but to no avail. Then it occurred to him that he could tell Lord Ganesha to write the Mahabharata for him. He approached Lord Ganesha and Lord Ganesha agreed to write the Mahabharata but he had one condition.
Lord Ganesha revealed his condition by saying that he would write the Mahabharata only if Sage Vyasa would recite it to him non-stop without a pause. Sage Vyasa agreed to Lord Ganesha’s condition but he also had a counter-condition. He stated that Lord Ganesha would not write anything without fully understanding the sentence or the plot. Lord Ganesha agreed to Sage Vyasa’s condition and so the writing of the Mahabharata began.
Lord Ganesha was very quick at writing and hence he wrote at a great speed. This is where the wisdom of Sage Vyasa prevailed. He would purposely put some complex sentences in between which would take Lord Ganesha time to understand before he could write it down. This allowed Vyasa to catch a breath and also think in his head as to how the next sentences would be framed.
It is also believed that while writing at a very fast speed, Lord Ganesha broke the stylus with which he was writing the epic. But since he could not stop, he broke a piece of his tusk and continued. That is one of the stories that describe why Lord Ganesha is known as ‘Ekadanta’ (One who has one tusk). This selfless act of Lord Ganesha also tells us that when it comes to gaining knowledge, no amount of sacrifice is enough.

What DeSantis just doesn’t get.
Politics is about a lot more than policy positions; even many people on our side don’t understand this.
Ron DeSantis thinks that he can just scream “WOKE! WOKE! WOKE!” all the time while signing a lot of hate legislation into law and this will get him the GOP presidential nomination.
Janan Ganesh at The Financial Times (archived) thinks that DeSantis doesn’t quite grasp populism.
Why DeSantis is losing Republicans to Trump
Consider for a moment what Donald Trump gives to his average follower. Membership in a vast nationwide communion of like-minded people. A paternal figure in a confusing world. The frisson of transgression: middle-aged whites don’t often in life get to play the rebel.
Next to all this, what is the marginal benefit of seeing him win an actual election? What, after that, is the marginal benefit of watching his policies come into force? No doubt, Trump fans would rather have these bonus items than not. But he has done them a profound emotional and almost spiritual service before it ever gets to that.
It is not clear that Ron DeSantis understands this about populism. Until he does, he won’t displace Trump as the leader of the movement in the US. The governor of Florida trades on his electability and administrative competence. But if either of these things was paramount for voters in the Republican primaries, the contest would already be over.
[ ... ]
DeSantis is logical, poor man. He thinks modern politics is about doing things. The extent to which it is about belonging — about replacing the group identity that people once got from a church or a trade union — is lost on his rationalist ken. In this one sense, he thinks like a liberal. The left is forever trying to “answer” populist concerns by reshoring industrial jobs or devolving power. It is very sweet, this. And yes, perhaps at the start, populism was about tangible grievances. But once people took sides, around 2016, that group membership started to mean more to them. (As in a long-running war whose original cause is lost on the belligerents.) Trump perceives this more clearly than his rivals.
[ ... ]
So, a strident rightwinger, from a far humbler background than Trump, is framed as though he were the latest scion of the Bush clan.
Basically, this is how rightwing populists size up the contest.

Chitrarth: A Canvas of Dreams and Determination
Dear readers,
It’s been a while since we last shared an update, but today, I bring you a story straight from the heart—a blend of passion, challenges, and triumphs.
As many of you know, painting has been my lifelong passion. However, what you may not know is the incredible artistic journey of my elder brother, Nikhil. A wildlife researcher by profession, he has also been capturing the beauty of the wild through his lens for years. His stunning photography and my dedication to painting sparked an idea—credit goes to Sneha—why not host an exhibition that combines our work?
Thus, Chitrarth – The Meaning of Canvas was born. But the road to the exhibition was anything but smooth.
The Challenges
The first hurdle was finding the perfect venue in our hometown. After a long search, we came across the art gallery at Devrukh College of Art and Design. It had everything we wanted—ideal lighting, ambiance, and elegance. But there was a twist. We hoped to open during Ganesh Chaturthi, only to realize the management was unavailable during the holidays. Adjusting our plans, we rescheduled to September 28-30, 2024.
Next came the daunting task of framing the artworks and safely transporting them. With help from friends, bubble wrap, and a lot of care, we managed to get everything ready. Sneha took on the responsibility of printing and transporting the photos, while I focused on designing banners and invites. Slowly but surely, the pieces started coming together.
The Grand Opening
As the exhibition day approached, nerves kicked in. Despite rehearsing, I felt a wave of anxiety about speaking and sharing my journey. But as the doors opened, around 30 people walked in, filling the room with curiosity and excitement.
Both Nikhil and I shared our stories, explaining the effort and emotion behind every painting and photograph. People were astonished by the intricate details of my line art and the time it took—5-6 hours on average for each piece. Students were fascinated by Nikhil’s wildlife photography, and eager to learn and explore the field.
The feedback was overwhelming. Visitors connected with our work, some even sharing their creative dreams. It was humbling to meet people of all ages—some starting their artistic journeys in their 50s—who reminded us how art has the power to inspire.
A Proud Moment
The most unforgettable moment wasn’t the applause or the appreciation—it was the look on our parents’ faces. They’ve always been our strongest supporters, and seeing their pride made every challenge worth it. Those three days were a celebration of creativity, resilience, and family.
This exhibition taught us that dreams, no matter how big or small, are worth chasing. It reignited our passion to create, to share, and to inspire. We’re fueled up and ready to take this journey to the next level.
To everyone who supported us, visited the exhibition, or sent their wishes—thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Stay tuned for more stories, including a special interaction with one visitor that left a lasting impact.
Until next time,
Follow your heart—it knows the

Saturday to and fro
To the post office in the morning for another bit of work and then back and before I had the time to sit my ass down my neighbor rang the doorbell to ask for help in connecting her speaker to her phone because she wanted to play bhajans for Ganesh Chaturthi. Yay :(
Noise then. And out again after a bit because the dude at the post office fucked up in labeling a speed post. So, go there, redo the whole process before the post office closes for lunch. And then lunch at a south Indian restaurant because why not.
Back at home and some help and inputs are needed about gardening. A quick dash to the hardware store to bring some pipes to create a rudimentary frame for the vines and climbers.
Sit down and it's time for dinner. Which was fish. I hated it. I still ate. Food is food.
Have dinner and neighbor asking to move my car an inch because someone parked another car wrong and went off because of which neighbor can't enter her parking. Did the whole jiggle and wiggle with the cars like some kind of jigsaw video game.
Sit down and more help is needed from me for filling up and checking some documents.
Try to sit down again and then I get to the Tumblr app.
Hello. Saturday is almost done.
