jewish people were attacked after a football match in amsterdam yesterday and it was horrible to see. it’s notable how little of this is framed with reference to the israeli state’s violence though, and instead simply the global intifada (that is coming for the west next, supposedly). this is obviously ridiculous. so many middle eastern states have way more to fear from the west right now than the other way around, basically nothing about this has changed. I’m seeing this ‘it’s the end of days’ style framing about europe more and more from a bunch of different people of various political stripes

also to be clear there was a lot of racism from a lot of people here:

this obviously doesn’t justify basically indiscriminate violent attacks on jewish and israeli football fans, obviously. but the incredible wording of things like this—‘the terror mob’ globalising the intifada—is so extreme and obvious in its intent. we’re likely going to see more and more violence against a number of different minority ethnic groups in europe soon, and they’ve arguably already started. everyone needs to be vigilant to not let this descend into a game of which minority it’s alright for people to go out and attack this week because some people attacked this other minority (‘so they deserve it!’), because of that government, because we need to ‘protect europe (from immigrants)’, whatever it is. we won’t justify nor excuse nor support rhetoric that calls for further violence and targeting of minority groups in europe, no matter what the offered justification is
