Lyrics:
You, watching me
Hanging by a string this time
Don't, easily
The climax of the perfect life
And you, watching me
Hanging by a string this time
Don't, easily
My smile's worth a hundred lies
And if there's lessons to be learned
I'd rather get my jamming words in first, so
I'll tell you something that I've found
That the world's a better place
When it's upside down, boy
And if there's lessons to be learned
I'd rather get my jamming words in first, so
Oh when you're playing with desire
Don't come running to my place
When it burns like fire, boy
Ooh, nothing sweet about me, yeah
Sweet about me
Ooh, nothing sweet about me, yeah
Sweet about me
Ooh, nothing sweet about me, yeah
Ooh, nothing sweet about me, yeah
Sweet about me
Blue, blue, blue waves, they crash
As time goes by so hard to catch
Too, too smooth, ain't all that
Why don't you ride on my side of the tracks
And if there's lessons to be learned
I'd rather get my jamming words in first, so
I'll tell you something that I've found
That the world's a better place
When it's upside down, boy
And if there's lessons to be learned
I'd rather get my jamming words in first, though
When you're playing with desire
Don't come running to my place
When it burns like fire, boy
Ooh, nothing sweet about me, yeah
Sweet about me
Ooh, nothing sweet about me, yeah
Sweet about me
Ooh, nothing sweet about me, yeah
Ooh, nothing sweet about me, yeah
Sweet about me

SongFacts:
"Sweet About Me" is a song by Australian singer-songwriter Gabriella Cilmi from her debut album, 'Lessons to Be Learned' (2008). The song was released as the album's second single on 10 March 2008 in the United Kingdom and on 24 March 2008 in Australia. One month later, it topped the Australian ARIA Singles Chart and stayed there for five non-consecutive weeks.
"Sweet About Me" also became a hit in Europe, reaching number one in the Netherlands and Norway and becoming a top-five hit in eight other countries. In the UK, the song reached number six and was the most-played track of 2009 according to PRS for Music. The song won the Grand Prix during the 46th Sopot International Song Festival in 2009. A 2010 mix of "Sweet About Me" was included on Cilmi's second album, Ten, released in March 2010.
Recording of 'Lessons to Be Learned', the parent album of "Sweet About Me," began in Melbourne, Australia, when Gabriella Cilmi was thirteen years-old. Cilmi then re-located to London, England in 2007 to launch her musical career and complete the recording of "Sweet About Me". The song was co-written by Cilmi in collaboration with its producers Xenomania, who are critically acclaimed for their work with Girls Aloud, Sugababes and Kylie Minogue. "Sweet About Me" was written after Cilmi was pillaging a Parisian record store for inspiration. Cilmi was listening to early psychedelic music around the time when she wrote the song. Lyrically, Cilmi said that the song is saying, "We're all going to make mistakes, so we might as well have fun while we're making them." Cilmi explained "Sweet About Me" to Bob Henderson of Gay Times, "['Sweet About Me' is about] nothing being what it seems. This might sound cheesy as well, but just because I'm young doesn't mean I don't understand what's going on."
Described as a "soulful pop song" by contemporary critics, Cilmi revealed to Pete Lewis of Blues & Soul that the "fun" inspiration in "Sweet About Me" originated from her mother's love for 1970s British glam-rock bands, Sweet and T. Rex. During the recording of "Sweet About Me", Cilmi thought there was something "amazing" about the song. Speaking to WalesOnline she said, "I thought it was like a nursery rhyme, the way it got stuck in your head." Cilmi, who is influenced by rock bands Led Zeppelin and Kings of Leon, said she had to make a pop-sounding record to appeal to as many people as possible. Speaking to music website, The Digital Fix, Cilmi explained how she worked together with Brian Higgins on "Sweet About Me":

alright, so, theo's first impressions of gabriella cilmi are...
🌹🌹🌹
I mean, what else could it be. 'Sweet About Me' is so iconic and on track of becoming my top song of 2008. It's been a rare moment of brilliance in an otherwise dire year.

my eva playlist. some songs are silly some are not but they all make me think about her. tracklist and reasons down there vvv
hi eva fans!! these explanations aren't deep or anything, just little notes... the most vague, redundant notes. notice how they get shorter and shorter because if you listen to the songs and read the lyrics with eva in mind it'll make sense as to why they're on there. the songs aren't in any kind of order btw
I Like 'Em Big and Stupid - Julie Brown
off to a great start. looks like this was the song that made me create an eva playlist. sorry big boss. eva loves when her targets are big n stupid. makes it easy for her
Love and Affection - Joan Armatrading
see they're not all silly!!
"not in love" = spy with no true allegiance. "east or west" omg cold war. eva looking for a genuine connection/something to believe in
She's Always a Woman - Billy Joel
mercurial, manipulative women. "garden of eden"!! bb seeing her as a woman and not as a tool
Hips, Tits, Lips, Power! - Pigface
knows her strengths. using her body to get what she wants. says "china" in it
Evil Woman - Electric Light Orchestra
stealing what she thought was the philosopher's legacy then suffering the consequences. "open road" = motorcycle. can sound like "eva woman" if you make it
On A Mission - Gabriella Cilmi
you go girl 💖 impossible to hear and not think about eva. "foot on gas, key in ignition"
I Know What Boys Like - The Waitresses
eva being a very well trained charm agent
Bad Habit - The Offspring
ROAD RAGE
A Girl Like You - Edwyn Collins
seductive sounding song. eva is special to everyone she targets. the "devil/god" bit idk big boss or something
TheWhisperers - The The
eva despondent reflection moment. backstabbing. whispers = rumours to follow/intel
Chinese Spy - The Tremelo Beer Gut
too complex to explain
I Can't Believe You Would Fall for All the Crap in This Song - Sparks
stringing targets along and feeling superior about it
(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman - Aretha Franklin
disillusioned with spy life but then being seen by bb yay. more than a body
Seventeen - Ladytron
disposable. cycling through young charm agents. that likely insidious comment she makes if you interrogate her: "and then... when I was seventeen...!"
Not My Idea - Garbage
controlled, no agency and the despair that comes with it
Bitch - Meredith Brooks
that bitch was wearing perfume. multifaceted, many faces. hard to know after years of suppressing true self. BITCH! BITCH! BITCH ...BITCH!
Big Log - Robert Plant
more emptiness. driving metaphor
She's Not There - The Zombies
lying, causing harm. physically vanishes after snake eater but also "not there" as in empty spy
Femme Fatale - Velvet Underground, Nico
charm agent life 💋
Sexbomb - Tom Jones, Mousse T.
sexy spy song idk. is eva not a sexbomb?
Pet Body - Miya Folick
detachment from body because of her job. violent lines = nature of her work. "I'm just a sack of flesh", "I'm a delicate piece of equipment"
Don't Believe a Word - Thin Lizzy
leading targets on and lying about her feelings
Lorraine - Bad Manners
eva wronging bb/target. spy backstabbing and violence
Spy of Love - INXS
tricks and tracking. eva does all that
Left Outside Alone - Anastacia
idk why this reminds me of eva. distance between her and bb? any religious references in lyrics are always about bb. that's the mgs playlist rule
THE END!! HAPPY LISTENING AND THINKING ABOUT EVA 🎶 🍎

May! Officially springtime, I wanted my May playlist to key off of 'Les Fleurs' by Minnie Riperton, a song my bff shared in our family discord and has haunted me since (positive).
This playlist put itself together pretty quickly, and basically was in its final form by mid-month. And, since part of the whole point of me even starting doing monthly playlists was because I am prone listening to the same playlists over and over (and over), I had no problem spending two weeks of workdays listening to the same series of songs. It's comforting! My comfort playlist is six songs long and I used to play it on a loop through most of a workday at a Bad Place I Worked. Three hours of syrupy spring joy every day was a delight.
The vibe for May was, if I may quote what I sent my bestie in describing it: "Flowers and joy sweetness and fierceness is the vibes, Middle finger in a lace glove." I mean, I think I achieved that, anyway.
Several covers on this one, like the Cowboy Junkies covering Vic Chesnutt 'Flirted With You All My Life,' which is a hard one to cover for a lot of reasons but this is (to me) a successful attempt. The 'Goodbye Horses' cover by Dead On A Sunday is also a new favourite, it doesn't really change much about it, but it's just a good damn song. The Cardigans singing 'Sabbath Bloody Sabbath' hit me so unexpectedly, I was delighted.
Related media to some of the songs:
I enjoy the music video for Indigo De Souza's 'You Can Be Mean'.
An Dro's arrangement of the Hieronymus Bosch butt music is probably my favourite version, and I'm grateful to this Tumblr post for introducing this artist to me.
There are two songs from Schmigadoon! season two in here, if you can find a way to watch it (Apple TV+) and are a musicals fan you're in for a treat. It's a damn tragedy how they've got so few clips for this show and were consistently late in sharing what little they had or in making songs available quickly on Spotify. It's a musical show! You're a giant network! Anyway, enjoy this Chicago-inspired piece that is not on this playlist but is a delight nonetheless.
Anyway here's a link to May's playlist on Spotify, with the track list below the cut.

dont mind me im just bullying you. PAYBACK GABRIEL. PUTTING THE L IN GABRIEL -SARAH//SILLY. /J what music does everyone listen to?
LKIJUHGTFDEFGTYHJIKJUGTFRGHJ THE L IN GABRIEL SOBS
dave has a good handful of these blank looking cds and then you put them in and its a whole mix of different bands cause you KNOW he burns his own cds, he just never labels them and so its a guessing game every goddamn time, majority of what he listens to is things like deep purple and oasis (which is not just cause those are dad music to me i Swear)
i put thatcher in a green day shirt in the refs so khgfdfghj he listens to green day and similar things
sarah likes gabriella cilmi! she also adopted both dave and marks music tastes so she listens to deep purple and queen as well!
evelin loves emo music im sorry but she does, evanescence fan through and through
jonah fall out boy fan, he would be one of those people making shitty incorrect lyric videos and evie would help him with it
adam listens to whatever his friends do, theyve all lost cds out of nowhere cause he pocketted it for himself and no one knew until they all broke into his 'house' in december 2008 to try to find him and saw the pile of them

Ugh, Year 2008 was definitely the worst one ever since I started putting these together. Still, I'm happy with the shorter top 20 songs playlist on YT Music. Not gonna lie, the Spotify 50 song list has a lot of filler this year...
I was really uncertain about the song of the year as well, until Keane popped up on my radar, bless them for another well timed banger. <3
10. 'Viva La Vida' - Coldplay
9. 'Without You' - The Feeling
8. 'Dog Days Are Over' - Florence + The Machine
7. 'Caravan Girl' - Goldfrapp
6. 'Kids' - MGMT
5. 'In My Arms' - Kylie Minogue
4. 'Sway' - The Kooks
3. 'Sweet About Me' - Gabriella Cilmi
2. 'One Day Like This' - Elbow
'The Lovers Are Losing' - Keane

You Sexy Thing / T Shirt
Calling a band a "one hit wonder" is very rude, as they usually have a string of hits unknown to the common man, but T Shirt are one of those strange acceptions where they actually ARE a one hit wonder band. They literally dropped one single only and then peaced out.
One of the members Miranda Cooper is part of the successful song writing collective Xenomania who has worked with Aussie talents Kylie and Dannii Minogue, and Gabriella Cilmi, as well as international artists such as The Pet Shop Boys, Sophie Ellis-Bextor and Cher.
So, while their own band only had one hit, Miranda has helped to write many hits for many people.
